I have to thank Chris L, "the duke" for recommending I try this place. I have now been a couple times and it was great both times. I have only had Pho a handful of times before this so I am still trying new things and learning. I only experience with three Pho restaurants prior, but this is the best I have had.
I am not sure what I expected the first time I went. It's actually right behind an Exxon gas station and took me by surprise that it was a beer and wine store and Pho restaurant in one. Why not? It's the best of both worlds! You can actually choose your wine or beer from the "singles" cooler and they will open it at your table.
The first time I visited, I got their special Kobe Beef Pho which was amazing. A generous portion of thin strips of rare Kobe beef; as it cooked the marbling melted and added a great beef flavor to the bowl. The soup broth had just the right amount of saltiness, the noodles were not overdone or clumpy, the "fixins" on the side (basil, sprouts, jalapeño, etc) were super fresh and aromatic, overall amazing dish!
For my second experience, I tried their Bun Bo Hue and loved it as well! I knew this was a spicier soup but wasn't exactly sure what to expect other than that. Compared to their traditional soup, I noticed this seemed to have more onion (chive) and obviously spiced oil (?). I loved the additions of both, the broth was fantastic. The fresh veggies that came along with this bowl were different from the ones typically given with their Pho. It came with a sprig of basil on top but under that was a shredded mix of cabbage, basil, lemongrass, and a few sprouts mixed together. It was great, I used most of it. When researching Bun Bo Hue it seems many places serve it with pork knuckles as the meat. At Pho Chi, I did not specify a meat and they served it with a mixture of all of their beef meats (well done brisket, rare eye of round, meatballs, beef tripe, and beef tendon). I have now learned that the tripe and tendon may be a little too adventurous for me! I ate it all and I know people love it but I prefer the meatballs and rare thin slices of beef best. Looking back today I didn't even notice I was eating the tripe, I just thought I had done a great job with my chopsticks getting a nice bunch of shredded cabbage! As for the tendon, I definitely noticed that, mmm, not so much.. (Again, I am sure it's great for those that love it! Just not my personal preference.). I also had their Thai iced tea which was great. I ordered it at the start of my meal but it could have been my dessert. It was sweet and delicious. They asked if I wanted it with tapioca pearls. Not knowing what those were I said sure, why not! For those of you that have never had them either, they look like blueberries but are sort of like sweet little gummies that come up with the big straw you are given and I thought they were very good, a nice little addition to the tea.
My favorite thing about Pho Chi is that they are open until 1am so you can come up for soup late night! Both times I visited it was after 9:00 and even late the quality did not suffer what-so-ever! I would highly recommend this place & a big shout out to the duke!! read more
