I came here with a group of friends a few days after a disastrous time at Pholucious in Rockville. Needless to say, this was much better. This place is in a Beer & Wine store so you can grab a drink with your meal. Also, there is a $10 minimum for credit cards. Most, if not all, of the items on the menu are less than $10. The place seats about 25 people inside but there is outside seating as well. While they're open until 1am (late night pho trips!) the kitchen closes at 12:30am. The waiter was a elderly gentleman who was very easy going, polite, and a sense of humor. The service is not the fastest I've seen but there are televisions mounted on the walls so when you're watching Food Network, the time passes by quicker and works up your appetite. The waiter handed plastic sleeves that had the necessary utensils based on what each person ordered (e.g. spoon for rice, chopsticks and soup spoon for pho, etc.). I rarely see banh mi on the menu at pho places so I decided to get one. They listed a sandwich combo for $6.95 that comes with fries and a drink (no refills) but you can get just the sandwich for $5.50. I've been here once before and remember their banh mi being stuffed so I ordered just the sandwich. This time there was proportionally more bread than filling. The beef was well seasoned and it was delicious even if it was not as filling as I remembered (or watching Food Network made me hungrier). One of my friends ordered a number 15 pho with the beef rare and extra onions on the side. This was a large portion of soup and noodles and there was a generous amount of onions in a separate bowl. The noodles weren't too soft or too hard; they were just right. The only downside is that they're stingy with the amount of meat. The broth had a lot of depth and flavor. Two other orders included a grilled pork (#32) and a grilled honey lemongrass chicken (#35) rice vermicelli ($8.50). The meat was well seasoned and moist. Both were polished off quickly and very filling. There were also orders at my table for the grilled pork rice plates. These came with the grilled meat, rice a square slice of some kind of meat pie (they said it was good), fried pork skin, small salad, and a fried egg. I am not a big Pho person, but I guess if I come here enough that may change. I have had Pho maybe once before (at a different location), but on this visit, I decided to try something different. I got the Rice Plate with chicken. It comes with Jasmine rice served with chargrilled chicken marinated in their homemade lemongrass sauce and it had a salad on the side with lettuce, tomatoes and shredded carrots. The chicken was succulent and went well with the rice. I did not know if there was any dressing to go on the salad, so I ate it as is - still good. I also had a mango smoothie with no bubbles and it was very good - tasted like a ripe mango just picked off the tree. I plan to go back again (with friends) and try their Pho. 3.5 stars only because I am new to the food and location Note: The location was not hard for me to find as I used the google picture maps to direct me there. If traveling on Montgomery Village Avenue towards I-270, it will be on your right side, after you pass the Welcome to Gaithersburg sign and in the vicinity of a gas station and a Dunkin Donuts. First things first, my fiancé and I are the type to go and eat pho 7 days a week for a month straight. So we definitely know what good pho is. With that being said, the pho we experienced here was some bootay. It tasted like they boiled some sink water and threw a couple beef bouillon cubes in it and labeled it pho. I can say the atmosphere was very laid back and definitely a late night type of spot and the service was iffy but okay. The food is absolutely meant to be ate when under the influence, and that's probably why when you sit down you're surrounded by alcohol. Stopped in here for a late lunch. Inside it's an odd little joint - a Vietnamese/Pho restaurant combined with a beer and wine shop. I looked over the menu - I could not find Pho Ga listed - so I asked, The lady told me they had Pho Ga - so I ordered it. Food came out - the broth was very, very light in terms of both color and flavor. I prefer a more robust, complex broth with deeper flavor. The broth was steaming, the noodles were not clumped, and the veggies/aromatics were very fresh. The bowl needed more broth in it. This was an okay place for Pho. For its location, it is actually the better choice. I think there are better choices in Rockville though. There are no vegetarian pho options here so this review is a bit limited. I did have the vegetarian roll, which was good and well made. It was lacking in "umph" flavor thus the okay rating. The atmosphere is a bit lacking and I believe our server was the owner's child. It was weird. The Iced Thai Tea was a bit on the sweet side, but still good. This is probably my favorite night time pho spot to go to. The menu is very simple and their pho noodle broth is absolutely flavorful and amazing. This isn't my first time here I've tried a lot of the rice dishes too and it doesn't fail to disappoint. Also the bubble tea is amazing it's very creamy and doesn't have an icy slushy drink taste to it. I got a strawberry smoothie. Oh and they also open until 1am, but the kitchen closes down at 12:30am. And last but not least this food is so fire I can dance and sing after eating. Extremely annoyed. I read all the great reviews and looked at all the photos of delicious food and I suddenly developed a craving for pho. I got into my car and drove all the way down here just to see that they are closed, even though the hours listed say they should be open. Pissed... and hungry. UPDATE: Don't go here. Their hours are so inconsistent and you will likely arrive only to be disappointed. I came yesterday 11/13/16 around 10:30PM and the doors were locked, lights off. They were closed despite a sign saying open until 1AM, is what I'm trying to say. The very next day, today, I went again during early evening in an attempt to give them another chance. I approached the doors and though the lights were on, the doors we're again locked. On the door was a sign saying they would return by 4:30PM. I arrived around 4:05PM, so I have no idea how long the sign had been up. I just think it's ridiculous that twice within 2 days, they were closed when they should've been open. Save yourself the time yall! Placed an order for pick up over the phone didn't ask for my name but I didn't think twice about it, it's late I figured we were the only order. My mom went to pick up the food and when she walked in a worker said here's your food and charged her. She realized the order was wrong afterward so I called the store to clarify in hopes that our food was still there for her to pick up after turning around. Let me preface by saying I work in the service industry too, and this was nottttt right. A woman on the phone started raising her voice at me immediately after I mentioned our order was incorrect. I've been to Pho Chi only once before to try out their pho. However, I heard from JASON C. that they have charcoal BBQ, which is pretty rare to find around the area; it was pretty exciting to hear, so JASON C., JOY B., and I came to check out this after attending an event in the area. Mr. Nguyen, the owner, told us the different meat offerings - we opted for the beef (short rib), chicken, and the pork (they also had shrimp/seafood available). The meats come marinated with also a plate of veggies (okra, bell peppers, asparagus, and onions). The charcoal grill is set on one of the cut-out patio tables, and once the grill is hot enough, the food is brought out. Mr. Nugyen grilled the first round for us, and then we were left to be responsible for them - we thought cooking it much longer brought out more of the flavor, but I think the meats could have been marinated for much longer. Also, I think the meats could have been sliced thinly, as that would definitely help with the flavors and cooked in less time. Out of the 3 meats, I actually liked the 'kobe' beef on the skewers that were brought at the end, as those seemed the most flavorful out of the bunch. Since the restaurant is also a little beverage depot, you can also get wine and beer (we all shared a bottle of Merlot) with your meal. I loved the fact that this place opens late! We had the patio seating all to ourselves, and we had a great time, just relaxing on stuffing our faces with the meats and the wine. This is rare for me - a second 5 ***** rating in a category! Pho Chi is a hidden gem, a little 12 table spot behind a Dunkin Doughnuts that looks like it was previously a convenience store. In fact, the back wall is lined with beer coolers and wine racks. The tableware is incongruously modern, white in trendy shapes. There is a pretty full menu of Vietnamese foods, but I came for the pho and the comradery of the Unofficial Yelp Event. I did not try the spring or summer rolls, but those in the group who did devoured them with gusto and praise. The star attraction is the Kobe pho, a special not on the printed menu. It passed the first test with flying colors, with a glorious aroma worthy of several deep breaths. The broth was intense and nicely seasoned, with bits of cilantro and pickled onion. It covered a generous serving of al dente noodles. Ah, the Kobe (or at least wagyu) beef. Baseball sized scoop, very tender, delicious. Very worth the $11.95, compared to the $8.95 for the usual list of beef and other cow parts. I had low expectations when my jasmine tea came in a small pot with a string and tag hanging over the side, but it too was fragrant and delicious after a suitable period of steeping. Decided to give this place a chance. And we are super happy we did ! The pho was fantastic blows away the competition. The broth was beyond fresh, and tasty. The noodles came out absolutely perfect. They prepared the meat just right. You don't have to worry about chewy noodles or meat here. One of the coolest things they have a solid offering of alcohol. I can make better pho at home! Ordered two #19's (flank steak and tendon) and received two slices of beef and one slice of tendon and that was it! All the meat that was included for the new price of $10! Now getting to the broth. It tastes identical to some instant broth I have purchased at Lotte right down the street. This pho location is in a hidden location. I found this pho restaurant quite randomly. Thus, I assumed it was a restaurant no one really ate at. I looked at the reviews and I was very surprised that four of my yelp friends have written a review for this place! Thus, I became more interested in trying the food here. The pho has a clean broth flavor. The broth is not muddy and it has a deep beef and light fish sauce flavor. The food came out quickly. I would recommend their Thai tea. This is a small mom-and-pop Vietnamese restaurant that is run by a very nice family. Their kids often hang out here after school and their son Chris loves to hang out with my girlfriend and I whenever we eat here. I think he just loves to play on my iPhone more than anything but he's a pretty cute kid. The family knows us and always greets us warmly. The food here is pretty good. My hometown is about 5 minutes away from Little Saigon in So Cal and I'm Vietnamese so I've had my share of Vietnamese food. My girlfriend usually gets the bun thit nuong (Vermicelli noodles with grilled pork) whereas I usually get the com tam bi cha thit nuong (broken rice with shredded pork, egg cake, and grilled pork) or the pho chin (beef noodle soup with well-done beef). The eggrolls here are pretty yummy but they are kind of expensive. I believe they were $4 for 2 eggrolls the last time I got them. They are constantly adding new Vietnamese dishes to their menus and they also have stuff that isn't on there, you just have to ask. This restaurant is pretty interesting as it doubles as a beer/liquor store and sells random chips, candy, and ice cream. They also have a pretty decent happy hour special with $1.50 beers. They also have 2 big screen LCD TVs and some outdoor seating for those nice sunny days. Bonus- Unlike most Vietnamese restaurants they accept credit cards! Although they are a small business so try to use cash when you can. :) Pro tip- The service here is usually pretty slow as the wife has to take orders and also cook sometimes so don't come here if you're in a hurry. read more

For example, this evening the restaurant patrons were almost universally silent. Why? Because Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Terminator 3" was one television! After feeling sick, tired and under the weather all week, I stopped by pho chi with the boyfriend since it's right by Costco. I ordered the spring roll and bun bo hue (pretty sure this isnt the right way to spell it) extra spicy. Let me just say, it was glorious. Perked me up instantly. The spicy broth with a hint of sour brought me back to life and i finished the whole thing, which does not happen a lot. So, it's not a fancy pho restaurant and a hole in the wall but honestly it's the best hole in the wall for pho ever. I've been here so many times in the last year... or even week now. Man, when I'm away at school and getting the midnight munchies I dream about this place, and whenever I'm back home I make sure to drop by. I love that it's open late (it being connected to a beer/wine store), and the pho is amazingly good. It has a nice flavorful broth and the portions are usually pretty generous. It always comes out nice and hot with the steak still rare and cooking in the broth :) My mouth is watering just thinking about it right now. It feels like a real family-run place. Sometimes there's kids around watching TV or even bringing you your menus, and I feel it makes it feel like an authentic noodle joint that you would find in Asia (my experience only being in Korea). I like that they remember repeat customers and are generally very friendly, sometimes teasing my girlfriend about her distaste for onions and cilantro lol. I wasn't expecting much when my friend took me to this little mom and pop Pho spot. Honestly when I entered Pho Chi I was confused by the layout. Looked as if it were a convenient store turned Pho place. There's beverage refrigerators lining the back wall. Later my friend told me it's all different selections of beer. Pho + Beer? Interesting. But you should never judge a book by it's cover. Their pho base is full of flavor and from my first taste I could instantly tell the soup base took hours to make. I've been told by friends who weren't a fan of the soup base because they used pepper. My bowl didn't particularly come out that way, maybe got lucky? The well done flank was tender. I'm a very frequent eater of Pho. I'm from LA and they have the BEST pho houses EVER, so my taste buds are a little stuck up when it comes to pho. I have to say this is the most interesting pho I've ever had. The soup base is flavored with spices such as tumeric and cumin. I would call this the pho style of the middle east. It's pretty good, which is why I gave this review 4 stars, but it's definitely not an everyday pho. The egg rolls were decent, but I've had much better. They weren't very crispy. When I treat myself to fried foods, which is rare, I want it to be super duper good. This didn't satisfy my fried food requirement... As others have mentioned, the restaurant is tucked inside with a convenience store and beer/wine store.
