    Veggie & Tofu Pho
    Lisa L.

We have been ordering pho from this little gem of a restaurant for well over two years now, usually at least once or twice a month. My husband is a vegetarian (I am not) and he has some food allergies (I do not), but if there is ONE DISH we can always agree on ordering in it is the veggie pho from Pho Hiep Hoa. We have always ordered delivery, so I cannot speak to the ambiance of the restaurant, but I cannot say that their service has always been impeccable and I highly recommend them. I have tried several of their other dishes (including pho with meat or chicken and various bahn-mis, but I end up back at the veggie pho as the most delicious, most heathy and most comfort-foody.

We've used UberEats to get some decent Vietnamese takeout. Both times our order arrived in less than an hour. It wasn't until the second time that we realized that we should be cooking the raw beef at home just to be safe as by the time the phở soup gets to us it might not be warm enough to bring the beef that's in a separate bag to a safe internal temp. I like how they are generous with the portion of vegetable sides to go along with the pho: mung bean sprouts, lime, mint, basil and they also give you hoisin sauce with sriracha mixed in. The banh mi and roasted quail were pretty tasty too. Will continue to order from here when my partner and I are craving Vietnamese food. I've tried making pho from scratch before and it takes a long time. So nice to have a good Viet restaurant nearby!

Closing up while we were eating

The ownership had to change. The prices are ridiculous, the pho lacks depth and the service is awful. We came on a Friday night at 8:40 with 40 minutes until closing time. We asked if we could wait by the window and were told we had to sit at a table near the register. The menu has more choices but he prices are ridiculously high. We orders two bowls of pho and one coke and then bill was $39. On top of the high prices, the people working there had not regard to the options eating. They turned off a set of lights as we were eating and started placing chairs on top of the tables. They also swept around us. They also turned away a customer. So if all that want bad enough, my daughter saw a roach crawling in the wall. Do not waste your time or money here. Go up the street to Mi La Cay where the service is impeccable, the food is great, and you won't see roaches. We would have ate there but they closed at 8.

Pro: decent food, Uber eat delivery service. Con: small parking lot. This place is decent if you are looking for a quick pho. We used Uber eat for delivery. The parking space is small in the front but there is more parking in the back. The spring roll with the shrimp was moist and the peanut sauce was good. The egg roll was Luke warm but tasted good when dip into the oil sauce. The pho meatball was only ok. We order the large bowl but the portion seem small. The broth was very light and not as flavorful as I would like it to be. All in all, an ok place for pho but I had better at other location.

    Pho and chicken sandwich

I had the chicken Pho and chicken sandwich. I was really hungry and the food it the spot. It was a lot of food and I should have saved 1/2 the sandwich but it was too good to stop. I especially appreciate how quick the delivery was through Uber Eats. Next time I am in Maryland, I will order from here again.

It's always in the last place you look! Had an appetite for Vietnamese so we headed for Wheaton. Me La Cay,closed. Pho Viet and Grill, take out only. Cam Ranh Bay, take out only. Cruised for something open, about to get flexible about cuisine when this place appeared in one of those grubby strips along University Boulevard. OK, what the heck. The inside, with cheap chairs, fancy table tops, elegant artwork, and a goldfish tank suggests an upscale place that has fallen on hard times. The menu is wide too. We opted for vermicelli bowls. My lamb was well marinated and grilled to perfect tenderness, as was my friend's pork. The shredded cucumber with bean sprouts added a nice contrast. The hint of mint worked for me, but my friend thought cilantro would have been more traditional. The nuoc cham dipping sauce was balanced and savory. Although the portion didn't look large, we left satiated. Service was reserved but friendly, prices not bad for the quality. Worth the scrambling around and definitely added to the rotation.

They charge you a service fee to act like they don't want to be there. This guy will rush you to order then sit in the corner of the restaurant on his phone, the cook brings out the food, then you pay at the front. Thats what you pay 18% for. There is no music at all and food is just ok so not sure why the food price is so high.

Ordering was so easy and simplified. You can just go up to the cashier to place your order and pick a table to sit down. We enjoyed our specialty drinks while waiting for our food. The fruit teas with boba and jelly were awesome. It had a nice sweetness with delicious jelly. Our food came out quickly. We started with fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce. There were a lot of large shrimps. The Golden crepe was huge with perfect crunchiness. This was perfect size to share with a few people. The Grilled Pork vermicelli was delicious. It was perfectly grilled with flavorful grilled onions. The P1 pho was yummy goodness with a hint of sweetness of the broth. The S4. Hue Spicy Lemon Grass Soup was good. I expected it to be very spicy which I was a bit concern. But it was a medium to mild spiciest. So I still have my taste buds to try the Banh Mi. We had B4 Grilled Pork and B10 Special Bahn Mi (so we can try the different meat). Like the menu stated the bread was freshly made with perfect crunchiness. The Bahn Mi were flavorful! It was perfectly balance with meat and vegetables. I'm definitely coming back.

THEY CHANGED OWNERS AND DID NOT ADVERTISE IT. I AM SO SO DISAPPOINTED…read more When this place first opened, it quickly became my #1 spot because it was really the only pho place in the area but it USED TO be so good! The family with the girl and boy that ran the front is not there anymore. So if you used to come here like me, I'm doing you all a favor and letting you guys know this place is TERRIBLE now that they switched owners. Not only that but much more expensive for a poor quality imitation of what this place used to be under the OLD owners. Small bowl is more than $18 now!!! Insane. I got a small bowl asked for half noodles they didn't do that and only had fatty brisket in it even though I got #11 which included also tendon and flank. YALL THIS PHO WAS COLD. The temperature was as if someone left hot tea out for 30-40 minutes. No more piping hot clear good broth, this broth from the new owners is MURKY AND BROWN and cold/lukewarm. I didn't say anything but just know I will NEVER come back its simply not worth it. Pickled onions was drowning in a weirdly sweet vinaigrette. Go elsewhere for better pho. I feel like these new people know they are not as good as the old people so they didn't tell anyone about the owner switch and are basically tricking people into coming and paying more money for worse pho riding on the coattails of a different owners reputation and I feel weirdly upset about that, like I've been tricked. If you guys used to come here all the time with the old owners then you will understand how upsetting this is. This place survived through the pandemic in the middle of PG that's how good they were. Pillar of the community just gone now. Also they won an award for being one of the best woman owned businesses but it's not woman owned anymore and the new owners haven't changed anything and they still have that sticker up even though it's not a woman owned business anymore. Like I said they are just riding the coattails of the previous owners.

It was our last day visiting fam in MD and we wanted to get some grub before the trip back to NY. There's a regular VN spot we frequent whenever we visit and it seemed to be closed so we didn't want to risk a drive out. We found Pho Tai 63 and called ahead to make sure they were open. Once that was done, we took the 20 minute drive to the restaurant and placed our order. The parking lot is SCANT. There are minimal spots. In this particular day (Black Friday), the place was packed, save for one spot and we got it. Upon entry, their dining room was full to capacity. We ordered some pho (that's all they have and I'm not mad - was a l'il disappointed at the time but we'll get to that). It too some time to get our food, much longer than expected, but I was not mad because there's definitely a reason for that. We brought every back home. Each pho dish was enough to feed two people my dad and brother ended up showing up at my sister's house the same time we got back. We had enough to feed everyone. The food is FRESH! the broths are clear and full of depth. You can make out the star anise and other herbs and spices. I split the shrimp pho with my brother since he doesn't eat meat. I got my sister the brisket pho. My son ordered the special pho and split that with my dad. Hubby also got a brisket pho and I got my daughter the chicken pho. The broths differ but each taste amazing. All of the pho came with the usual suspects: Thai basil, bean sprouts, hoisin sauce, lime and hot sauce. The accompaniments were plentiful so having extra mouths to feed worked out in our favor. My next trip south, I might have to do a taste test with both locations and see which I prefer. I wish they offered bahn mi sandos but honestly, with the caliber of pho they're dishing out, they are reigning supreme at the moment. Sometimes, it pays to focus on one thing and be REALLY good at it.

To further fulfill that nostalgic feeling of my weekends having lunch at Eden Center with my parents as a teen, I ordered an avocado smoothie to sip while looking over the menu. I have never been to Hanoi so there were some dishes I hadn't tried before but if a Vietnamese restaurant tells you what their house specials are, you should listen to them. I only ordered three of their house special dishes because I only had one other person to share these large portions with but I definitely wanted to try more. All three dishes were hits! The bun bo hue had a deep shrimp paste flavor, which is exactly what I was craving. Some people complained that it lacked lemongrass, I agree, but it's in there and not a big deal for me. There was plenty of meat in the bowl, the meatballs were bouncy and meaty (maybe even made in house), the pork blood was great quality and not chalky at all. Red cabbage is served on the side with thai basil, lime, and jalapeños; great alternative for banana blossom. The bun cha Hanoi was our favorite. It comes with a heaping serving of house made meatballs and pork belly. The fish sauce it comes in was a little blander than I like but I asked for a little extra raw fish sauce and chilis to spruce it up. It's all served with a mound of vermicelli and fresh veggies/herbs. This was my husband's first time trying this dish and he was obsessed! We also added a nem cua be (crab egg roll) add on so we could try one. Glad we only got the one because it was huge and packed with meat! It was delicious but would have been very filling as an appetizer. I also ordered the banh cuon cha lua which I took one bite of and had to pack home because I was too full to eat it there. This is one of my favorite dishes so I had to try it too! The rice paper crepes were great! Filling was a little lighter but the portion made up for it. Again, I spruced up the fish sauce a bit at home. I really enjoyed dining here. It fills that craving for authentic Vietnamese food without having to go all the way to Silver Spring or Eden Center. I will try to be a little more adventurous next time we head over and try the bun dau mam tom. It looks amazing!
