The guy stated that if I wanted an extra packet of soy sauce, I would need to pay extra for that and I thought that was ridiculous. When I said that I had never heard of having to pay extra for a packet of soy sauce he proceeded to say well, if that's ridiculous then no soy sauce for you and ended the call. So I called again and I said hey, why did you hang up the phone? I am a customer who is spending money at your business, he told me that he indeed not hang up but that something was wrong with my phone. Honestly idk how to properly label the shrimp pho in the caption but that's what I got along with a mango bubble tea and a coke. The mango bubble tea wasn't bad! My hometown has a lot of Asian spots including a pho place, and anytime I'd frequent that spot it was full of people. Here, I came in once after work, and it was pretty dead (3 tables were used including mine. The other two left and it was just a lady and I) I'm new to the area so I'm not sure if it's like this always or if it was just that particular night. Service was ok. Ordered, paid, got my food, and ate but I noticed that the owner seemed to be stressed out when I was there. I will say I do appreciate the Latino worker bringing out my food as it seemed to be a "nice gesture" since there wasn't really much provided by the owner. The cashier lady noticed I needed napkins and brought them out to me without me asking, which I was super grateful for. When I asked to put my leftovers in a container to take home, I had to ask for a bag after since I didn't get one initially (kind of weird considering I'm putting hot pho in a container to take home). We have been ordering pho from this little gem of a restaurant for well over two years now, usually at least once or twice a month. My husband is a vegetarian (I am not) and he has some food allergies (I do not), but if there is ONE DISH we can always agree on ordering in it is the veggie pho from Pho Hiep Hoa. We have always ordered delivery, so I cannot speak to the ambiance of the restaurant, but I cannot say that their service has always been impeccable and I highly recommend them. I have tried several of their other dishes (including pho with meat or chicken and various bahn-mis, but I end up back at the veggie pho as the most delicious, most heathy and most comfort-foody. read more

Came here for a mid day lunch, haven't dined much outside of the Wheaton Mall area, but this definitely is a place I unfortunately would not recommend to others. My table got the Grilled Pork over Rice, and the standard Combination Pho. The grilled pork had decent flavor to it, but was very dry and there wasn't that much food portion wise. I tried to douse all my food in the fish sauce they provided in order to make it taste better, and less dry to consume. The Combination Pho didn't particularly wow anyone in terms of flavors, so overall just very mediocre. Service was alright, but ambiance was pretty non-existent. I figure they probably do a lot of takeout orders, so ambiance isn't the highest on their list of priorities, but the restaurant was super dimly lit in the middle of a cloudy day, felt like there were no lights on so it was pretty dark. No music or TV were playing, so my table and the two other groups were all just eating in silence. The restaurant overall didn't seem very clean, tables weren't wiped down all the way and Wet Floor signs blocked certain areas. Overall I would say avoid dining in at this place, if you live nearby and really want some pho, takeout is probably the best option. read more

We've used UberEats to get some decent Vietnamese takeout. Both times our order arrived in less than an hour. It wasn't until the second time that we realized that we should be cooking the raw beef at home just to be safe as by the time the phở soup gets to us it might not be warm enough to bring the beef that's in a separate bag to a safe internal temp. I like how they are generous with the portion of vegetable sides to go along with the pho: mung bean sprouts, lime, mint, basil and they also give you hoisin sauce with sriracha mixed in. The banh mi and roasted quail were pretty tasty too. Will continue to order from here when my partner and I are craving Vietnamese food. I've tried making pho from scratch before and it takes a long time. So nice to have a good Viet restaurant nearby! read more

The ownership had to change. The prices are ridiculous, the pho lacks depth and the service is awful. We came on a Friday night at 8:40 with 40 minutes until closing time. We asked if we could wait by the window and were told we had to sit at a table near the register. The menu has more choices but he prices are ridiculously high. We orders two bowls of pho and one coke and then bill was $39. On top of the high prices, the people working there had not regard to the options eating. They turned off a set of lights as we were eating and started placing chairs on top of the tables. They also swept around us. They also turned away a customer. So if all that want bad enough, my daughter saw a roach crawling in the wall. Do not waste your time or money here. I've been going to this Wheaton staple for over twenty years and wow! Has it gone downhill... I'll start at their product. The pho is not authentic and has no star anise or bone flavor, I'm assuming it's just Lipton broth at this point, not even the right color or flavor profile to say the least. There is not a single Vietnamese person present at this restaurant. Questionable and concerning. Not eating there, not working there. Ambiance is depressing. No music, no vibe, they have repurposed seating they acquired from restaurant auctions with Mexican patterns on booth seating. I gave it a try after being disappointed past few times today because it had new branding and signage, but sadly, it's the same crap product and service. Hand written signs on wrinkled paper taped all over the place. The only difference I noticed today was 4 new flat screens mounted around (still unwrapped and off) what are their plans with that? Novelas? I remember the glory days of this place with good authentic pho, classic viet music playing in the background; and a slight hint of cigarette smoke lingering in from the kitchen. It's always in the last place you look! Had an appetite for Vietnamese so we headed for Wheaton. Me La Cay,closed. Pho Viet and Grill, take out only. Cam Ranh Bay, take out only. Cruised for something open, about to get flexible about cuisine when this place appeared in one of those grubby strips along University Boulevard. OK, what the heck. The inside, with cheap chairs, fancy table tops, elegant artwork, and a goldfish tank suggests an upscale place that has fallen on hard times. The menu is wide too. We opted for vermicelli bowls. My lamb was well marinated and grilled to perfect tenderness, as was my friend's pork. The shredded cucumber with bean sprouts added a nice contrast. The hint of mint worked for me, but my friend thought cilantro would have been more traditional. The nuoc cham dipping sauce was balanced and savory. Although the portion didn't look large, we left satiated. Service was reserved but friendly, prices not bad for the quality. This guy will rush you to order then sit in the corner of the restaurant on his phone, the cook brings out the food, then you pay at the front. Thats what you pay 18% for. Came here for the first time after my preferred place for veggie pho had reverted back to carryout only. Unfortunately, both the food and experience were very lacking. First off, they got my order wrong. I clearly said PV3 and they brought out a big bowl of beef pho. They seemed confused as I continued to tell them what PV3 was on their menu and they brought out a menu to check - so I showed them. When the food did come out they gave me fried tofu, not soft, but o let that go. The veggie pho has very bland broth, either from a box or bouillon. The veggies were close to raw, especially the carrots and I don't know about you, but I don't have a whole slew of chopped up celery in my pho. The final kicker to the poor outdated ambience: in mid January, they had little bugs flying about all over while we ate. read more

This place has been open for decades and was my go to growing up. Ever since I moved to California I made a point to visit them every time I'm in town. I stopped by yesterday for a bowl on a cold and rainy day and the pho did not disappoint. What disappoints was the customer service. The Spanish waitress was not friendly and unapologetic when she spill a full cup of ice on our table. She didn't bother to come back to clean it. They had about 4 tables with customer half already done eating but let it took forever for the food to come out. How long does it take to pour soup in a bowl of noddles and meet? This establishment has changed ownership at least a dozen time and I think it's going down hill. If it wasn't for the good memories I had of this restaurant I wouldn't come back. My girlfriend & I ate here on Thursday, November 9 as it is a close walk from my place. We both got the Pho, which is what they are known for, and it was excellent (possibly the best I've ever had). However, it appeared to me that the server may had been taking about my g/f & I behind our back in Vietnamese since we were confident and had a lot of questions about the menu. So, that kind of rubbed me the wrong way. In addition to my Pho, I got the bubble tea, which was excellent. My g/f got a coffee, but asked for soy milk instead of regular milk for the cream. They were confused and gave her a can of soy milk with her coffee! Then, we were charged $4 for it! I was angry, but they took this off our bill when we spoke with the manager. In spite of the couple of issues I had, the Pho was so good that I will let it slide and give it another chance just to enjoy the excellent Pho. Interesting side note: The day after our date, the MoCo police found a dead body in a dumpster right by where we walked the night before behind the shopping center where this place is closer to the CVS side of the center. A few days later I went to the CVS and talked with the cashier and a customer. I said I was concerned as I just moved here a month ago, and the customer assured me Wheaton is VERY safe and explained it was a domestic dispute between workers at the nearby KFC. While murder under any circumstances is a negative, this was at least a domestic dispute and NOT indicative of a random crime in my neighborhood. This place has gone downhill in terms of customer service. It used to be friendly, now the staff and management have attitude. They often get my order wrong. The new management also pressures you to give tips on pickup orders. Tips are fine, but they shouldn't pressure you by staring at you as you're filling out the receipt. That's classless. Pho is fine. What this spot lacks in decor it makes up for in friendly service and very good food. My son and I were the last customers of the night but were treated to a warm welcome, and were not rushed through our meal. We each enjoyed a huge, flavorful and piping hot bowl of their #1 Pho - sliced steak, tripe and tendon. The tendon and tripe melted in our mouths. We also got shrimp garden rolls which were extraordinarily tasty and came with a satay sauce that was right on the money. The hot tea was also nice, hot and plentiful. I came here for the first time in a few years. First of all, this place takes both CASH and Credit Card. However, they do not accept american express. I think this is new as they only accepted cash a few years ago. Glad they are able to accomodate credit card customers. In terms of pricing, their prices are very comparable with other vietnamese restaurants in the area. However, I do not recommend their pho. If you been to several vietnamese restaurant, you get a sense what the soup should taste like. The pho soup is very bland and extremely dark. I dont believe the broth is made with bones. I feel like its more powder than bone broth. The soup is very bland. However, the quantity of noodles is decent and they give plenty of meat with your pho. However, I still cant get over the tasteless broth. I did not try their drinks, however they do make coffee, tea and bubble tea drinks. I give this place props for making pretty good fried egg rolls. Definitely worth the price. However, you can skip the soup. The staff here isnt really tentative as they did not refill our water cups nor asked us how are meal was after the food came out. Given the location, I think there are other good vietnamese food options in the area. I know some people love this place, however, this is not my go to space. Used to be, you'd walk in the front door and the smell hit you like a sledgehammer. The all-consuming smell of garlic and burnt anise and onions. This place has been my family's go to place in the area for years. I like to try out other pho places around the area but most of the time, I still think "Pho Hiep Hoa tastes better" in the back of my mind. It's tucked away in a shopping center with very limited parking in the front and can often get crowded really quick. I suggest parking in the back. The staff here are incredibly nice and quick too. Menus are handed promptly and orders arrive in a reasonable amount of time. Downside, it's CASH ONLY!!! Now, let's get to what you're really interested in knowing. The PHO (pronounced fuh?, not fo) Their pho comes steaming hot with a generous amount of toppings and broth that is pretty flavorful. Over eagerness could lead to burnt tongues. I prefer to eat in rather than takeout because they always have plenty of parking in the back and I feel like you get more toppings when you do. I've been coming here a lot. The Pho soup is hearty, flavorful, hot, and comes with the regular suspects: bean sprouts, sliced jalapeno peppers, basil, and dandelion leaves. They serve other VietNamese dishes as well, spring rolls and summer rolls, vermicelli plates with meat. I will continue to visit this place as it is among my favorites for eating Pho. I only wish they would improve the look of their aquarium. Years back, me being a specialist in aquariums, I asked the owner if he would like me to assist in making improvements it, as it was in a dire state. He arrogantly said no, and I left. He has since made improvements to it, but it still has no filter and looks gloomy.
