If you are craving pho on Mass Ave, this is the place to go. Food I've tried: - DAC BIET PHO ($12): the meat was prepared well, and not tough at all. The broth itself was not overly salty, and had the hearty umami flavors I expect from a good bowl of pho. Portion and price was very reasonable as well. TLDR; we were hungry. We ordered three dishes for two people. We finished only one. The photo attached may or may not be the aftermath of our feeble attempts. If you want quantity, you've come to the right place. My mom and I visited this place, empty-stomached and starving around 5PM on a Monday - the restaurant was already getting packed by the time we arrived, never a bad sign (unless there's an hour wait :(). The service was okay - I wouldn't say that the waiter was very attentive, but he also wasn't rude or negligent, just busy. We ordered the thai tea smoothie with boba, green curry with chicken, pineapple fried rice, and pad khee mao (drunken noodles): 1) Thai Tea Smoothie: 4/5. The taste of the smoothie was a little bland, like they had been generous with the milk and less so with the tea. It was still sweet and creamy so we liked it, and the pearls were soft and chewy. Definitely not at the level of cult-favorite boba shops, but good enough to fulfill a cold drink craving. 2) Pineapple Fried Rice: 3/5. The rice was fairly dry, either like not enough water had been added when it was made, or it had been cooked earlier in the day. The flavors made up for the hard texture - we liked the combination of the spices with the currents, tofu, and veggies. Definitely a lot more seasoned than some pineapple fried rices I've had in the past. 3) Green Curry: 5/5. I have to admit, by the time we got to this dish, we were bursting at the seams, but continued to plow ahead. The flavor was rich, spicy, and decadent - I loved the combination of veggies and chicken that they put into the curry. I don't think anyone could ever go wrong with a nice hot bowl of curry with rice. The portions for each of these dishes were absolutely massive and the check wasn't too bad, considering the fact that they had given us enough food to feed a small village (aptly named Tuesday lunch, Wednesday lunch, etc....) Love this place whenever I'm craving something warm and soothing. My go to is the bun bo hue which is a slightly spicy beef noodle soup. The meat is plentiful and tender. The broth is very aromatic but not as spicy as it looks. Their pho is also really great and hits the spot on a cold Boston day. Bowls are large and you'll leave feeling satisfied. The broth isn't as flavorful as the bunbohue but it'll satisfy a craving for pho. Service is great! Expect a wait though, they do not take reservations. read more

This was my first pho experience and it did not disappoint! The place is cozy--perfect for catching up or a date, drink options were great (got the Vietnamese Coffee), meal was amazing. They put cardboard in between food to seperate them. Very stable and nothing got spilled. I ordered: Saigon noodle: its more like Pad see ew with a vietamnese name. plus a little bit spicy but not as spicy as drunken noodle. The noodle cooked to the perfect texture and the flavor (sweet salty and spicy) is very food. The only downside is that the chicken is a little bit dry. and there were too few egg pieces in it. but the portion was huge. Mi Hoanh Than: traditional pho with three pieces of wonton (another version of dumplings). The lettuce etc, soup, and the noodles came in three seperated containers. I put them together and added the hoisin sauce package included, which make the soup more flavorful. The noodle tasted good, but I have to admit I'm never a fan of pho since the taste is kinda blanc... But my friend loved the noodle soup. Spicy tofu eggplant: this is my favorite. The flavor is sooo good and its medium spicy level. I wish there were more eggplant pieces in it. I loved the steam rice it came with! It's not the typical rice you get from other restaurant. I had lunch a couple of days back at this place. The experience was great! On a cold snowy day I got myself a bowl of Vegetarian Pho. Just the right kind of meal I wanted to do away with the cold. The broth was delicious, the vegetables fresh and steamed tofu amazing. The accompaniments were great too. Wish the bowl had some more tofu though. There were only 5 pieces and that being the only protein, I felt it was pretty less. The service was quick, the server courteous and place pretty clean. I saw the person on the table next to me complain of something in the glass of water, but that can be a mistake. My number 1 restaurant in my college days. Location is great, easily walkable from the Northeastern campus and close to Back Bay. The wait grows pretty fast during peak dinner hours, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. This is the best bang for your buck, Thai food that I've ever had. I've come here over at least 100 times by now. The main dishes I would recommend are the pad thai or pad seew with crispy chicken, pho dac biet. The noodles are super delicious and the portion sizes are huge. The crispy chicken is very juicy and crispy. The pho dac biet has one of the best pho broths I've ever tasted. It also comes with a generous amount of meat and noodles. Either of these won't disappoint! If your in Boston and your ever feeling authentic Thai food, this is the spot. Also get the thai iced tea. I ordered chicken pad thai and a side of crab Rangoon for delivery while staying nearby. My order arrived blazing hot, so hot I needed to use a hand towel to hold the dish. Every time I go to Pho Basil there are quite a number of people in the restaurant which reflects its popularity. Last time I went there was a 10 minute wait time. Inside the restaurant is very clean but can be a little noisy because of the small space, however it is not a big deal. The staff was incredibly kind and welcoming as usual, and they filled up water cups very quickly. I have only tried noodles from Pho Basil, and I highly recommend their Pad See Ew and Drunken Noodles. My other friend had their Pad Thai, but that dish is honestly not their best as the noodles seem to be lacking. There is a bit more flavor with the Drunken Noodles in my opinion which is why I prefer it, but I love the Pad See Ew with a spice level of 3 -- I think the amount is perfect with just the right amount to complement the dish without overpowering the flavors presented. The vegetables seem fresh and I find myself enjoying the different textures together with the noodles.Furthermore, the portion sizes of the noodles are very big and I always take a to go box with me. One thing I do not recommend is their bubble teas, and for that reason I took off a star. The tapioca pearls were too overdone and were rather mushy than chewy. It is apparent that they just blend it with powder which I do not like, and couldn't taste the tea in both the milk tea or the thai tea. The bubble teas really did not have much flavor, and the thai tea kind of tasted like melted cotton candy dippin' dots. I was disappointed. Besides the bubble teas however, the food is excellent for the price point and their customer service is very good. I will continue to visit Pho Basil. read more

The only misleading thing was the option to add a bag of lime, bean sprout and basil for $2 and so that made me think you didn't automatically get one. I came here at 7:30 pm on a Wednesday night in a party of 2. We had to wait ~10 minutes for a table. Parking: Some street parking right in front but very limited Atmosphere: Not a large establishment but was at full capacity the entire I was there (left around 8:50 pm). I imagine the wait is extremely long at peak meal hours and/or weekends. Not a lot of seating for large groups. Many tables for parties of 2, parties of 3-4, but they had to put tables together for parties of 5+. Not loud but lively enough to overhear conversations nearby if you wanted to eavesdrop. Service: The only thing that would've warranted 4 stars instead of 5. The waiter took much too long to come by to take our order after bringing us water, even after we informed the other waiter that we were ready to order. Similar experience with getting our check to pay. Time from order to food was average. Our waiter did refill our waters from time to time without us asking. Food: Superb. I ordered the duck drunken noodles, and man did I make a phenomenal choice. The dish is usually relatively oily but my food was much less so than I expected. Duck was cooked to crisp with just enough skin to give the meat some texture. Portion size was enormous, and as a guy that eats a lot, I was stuffed at the end of the meal. Overall, our meal came out to ~$30, which was completely reasonable given the portion size and quality of the food. The food was awesome and the service was friendly. The only thing that was totally messed up is when the server brought our food it had egg and she admired it was her mistake. Instead of replacing with the same dish that we ordered without egg she told us the restaurant would take it out of her pay. We felt guilted into keeping the a dish we couldn't eat. In the end she said she we didn't need to tip. But I think it's a messed up labor practice to make workers suck up the cost of mistake. I ordered the pad Thai and green curry. The pad Thai was ok, something was missing in terms of flavor, it was to some extend tomatoey. The green curry was in my opinion the worst curry I've ever eaten. The chicken tasted like it was boiled in unseasoned water and then tossed in the super spicy unflavored coconut milk at the end. It didn't absorb any of the curry flavor whatsoever, I couldn't get the horrendous taste out of my mouth fast enough. The rice was so over cooked that I just put it in the trash. Pretty much a total waste of money. I hate wasting food and that's exactly what I did tonight. I was even disappointed in the Thai tea... even when the food is just ok, the Thai tea is always good. I don't know how this place has 4 stars. I've had authentic Thai food in Thailand and this is the third place I've eaten Thai food in Boston and is just so disappointing. Service was horrible, me and my friend both asked for to go cups because we couldn't finish the huge portions and once I opened mine at home I realized they took out more than half my portion. The noodles were taken out and only the chicken was left??? ADDITIONALLY the server basically forced me and my friend to tip them. We were both very annoyed and angry with how they treated us. I love this place.It's so much fresher than Pho Pasteur and Pho Hua in Chinatown. The serving sizes are pretty big when you order pad thai or any of the rice dishes. The wait is annoying in their small hallway because sometimes they do seat by whatever's available. I strongly suggest going as a pair. There are a few people eating alone and it looks sad. Sometimes they seat you under the AC vent and it cools the soup quickly and doesn't cook the beef. Parking around there is rough. The pork is really good. read more

Wow, it really gets packed here! Came here for lunch with a friend the other day and we were overwhelmed with hunger. Luckily, Pho Basil knows how to stuff you. The portions here are massive, the prices great, and the food pretty tasty. We shared the Avocado Smoothie, Kao Soi (because Yelpers seems to love it), and Grilled Shrimp Vermicelli Bowl. Delicious! The Avocado Smoothie was on point. The Kao Soi, wow!!! I'd never had it before but it was so so so tasty!! The flavors were amazing, not too spicy, but with a little bit of heat, and the chicken was yummy and plentiful. So plentiful we weren't able to finish all of it. Pho Basil? Officially one of my favorites in Boston! I'm extremely picky when it comes to Vietnamese food. My mom is sometimes too busy to cook so I have to resort somewhere else to satisfy my cravings. I came across this restaurant through Yelp and let me tell you, I am SO glad I had the chance to visit! Upon walking in, my boyfriend and I were instantly greeted by employees. Everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming. The restaurant is spacious, the tables were set 6 feet apart, and there were hand sanitizers to use right when you come in. We felt safe the entire time. I ended up ordering bun thit nuong (vermicelli noodles with grilled pork) and a side of crispy egg rolls. Whereas my boyfriend ordered com suon (rice with grilled lemongrass pork chops). It took approximately 15 minutes for everything to come out. The food smelled and tasted amazing! The flavors were perfect and the portions were big. Our highlight of the day was definitely the service. Our waitress frequently checked up on us and constantly refilled our drinks which were highly appreciated. Hands down, the best! read more

We ordered Chicken wings, Pad Thai with shrimp, Basil fried rice with tofu and Grapow fried Rice with chicken. The wings were ok, as there was no sauce on wings but it was crispy. I did take out from here - they have both Vietnamese food and Thai food. I usually don't like to order from places that serve 2 different cuisines, but they managed to pull off both Thai food and Vietnamese food well. I got the goi coun (fresh spring roll)- this was so so. The rice skin was a little too thick for my liking. The pho came with a container of soup, noodles and raw beef in another container, and vegetables in another container. This is smart so that your noodles do not get soggy in the soup. The only thing I did not like was the fact that the raw beef was in the same bag as the noodles, it did not feel hygienic! I quickly threw the raw beef and noodles into the broth in hope of cooking it and killing off any germs. If you do take out for pho, you might want to request to have the raw beef packed separately in its own container. The drunken noodles were very spicy but delicious as well.
