I absolutely love this place. I've been going to this place ever since my family moved into the neighborhood a couple years ago. We used to frequent the pho place on Austin St next to the Lumberjack Pancake House. They have the best pho in the area but sadly since we moved it became too far to travel for a bowl of pho. So I've been going to Pho 99 for around five years now. Their banh mi isn't very good but their rice plates and rolls are excellent. Their pho isn't always consistent in taste but it's never horrible and more often than not, it is amazing. They give plenty of extras if you ask. Their former management used to be a little unfriendly but not rude. New management however, is extremely friendly and courteous. Thanks to new management the interior got a makeover as well. Their decorations are homey and welcoming. It's a shame I had to move to nyc because I can't find pho that's as good as Pho 99. I miss it! read more

This is my third time coming to this location, this review is for the last time I was here. The food is always good, and thats pretty much all I can say about the food. It's nothing spectacular, just good lol My boyfriends soup came out first and my noodle bowl came about a minute later. When the server came by to drop it off me and my boyfriend were talking and the server just stands there with the bowl waiting for me to take it out of her hands?? When she came by the first thing I said was thank you, you know kinda assuming she would put the bowl down on the table but no, I had to take it out of her hands awkwardly. it was ok the soup was lacking in dept, plenty of meat though but some meat was dry. The lemongrass chicken and pork was using instant lemongrass flavours so it wasn't as natural tasting as when using real lemongrass marinate so disappointed with that dish. Portion size was good but for 2 dishes it came up to be $40. So pricey for what you get. read more

Pho 99 has been in the same plaza as Chapters and Save On Foods for years. It changed owners about 2 years ago. They definitely make great pho and the broth is very consistent. My favourite is the spicy soup base with the seafood pho. Its not on the menu but they will undoubtly accommodate if you ask. Both my kid's favourite is the lemon grass chicken with rice. Before their menu change, it was served 2 delicious spring rolls. If you reference the old menu, they'll include the spring rolls at no charge. The owner of Pho 99 does work the tables and comes by to make sure things are GREAT! In fact, I was served a large bowl a pho when I ordered a small. The owner basically said, "Don't worry about it. I charge you for a small." That is 'customer service' which some of the larger corporations should learn from. I included the cost differential as part of the tip left behind for the staff. I love my spices and they do make a 'killer' ginger sauce! If you like it, you can actually buy some to take home with you. Décor is comfortable and not crowded. It's a little warm in the summers but they've installed an air conditioner and fans to help maintain a comfortable temperature during the hot summer days. This used to be my favourite pho place in the tri cities! I had been going there with my family and friends for years! My family and I were regulars and the old owner was super friendly with us so we loved it! Great food and service but recently in the past few years it has been lacking.. went there with a friend who's never been there and he ordered the beef stew thinking it would be something completely different. When his food came he realized that it wasn't what he thought and literally took one tiny bite to see if he could eat it but he really didn't like it so he kindly asked if he could order something else instead since it would go to waste. The waitress was extremely rude thinking we were trying to scam her by getting a free meal, obviously that wasn't the case as these things do happen and people sometimes order the wrong things..he barely touched his food and it was obvious! She insisted on not letting him order something different and that he had to pay for the dish he wouldn't even eat. After an awkward talk with the manager who was also very rude thinking we were trying to scam them, we told her that we were sorry but he just didn't like his dish and wanted something he would actually eat. any restaurant with good customer service would kindly replace the dish with something different and make sure they have happy returning customers. It seemed as if the manager didn't want to replace the meal because we were two young adults and she thought we were messing with them lol, ridiculous. My friend had to awkwardly sit and watch me eat my food because they wouldn't let him order a different dish without paying for the one he wouldn't eat.. I will definitely NOT be returning to this pho place ever again and I'm quite disappointed as I have been going there for 10+ years and have recommended it to tons of friends in the past. The waitress and manager were so rude to us and made an awkward scene in front of everyone so yea..don't go here if you want decent and non bias customer service, it was evidentially clear they were reluctant to be nice to us and change the order because we were a couple of young adults in sweats just trying to go out for a casual lunch lol. Natural Beef Tendon Hair! Ok, first and foremost hair only grows on the outer layer of a skin so seeing 3 pieces of equally short length of hair on a piece of tendon really freaked me out. Finding it on the Pho soup doesn't help either coz imagine eating a dirty essence of another person - since these hairs has been boiling for a long period of time. So imagine that for this batch of broth it could have been eaten by everyone who ate at the restaurant on that day. When I noticed it I just scooped it on my spoon. At first I thought it was just a longer strand of hair embedded on the thin fatty tissue of the tendon so I immediately stopped eating it. Then when a staff approached me I immediately pointed out the issue, she looked and said its normal and that it is something that they try to get out of the tendons. I even tried to dissect and show her that its a long strand of hair when it came apart to 3 short hairs with the same length. Before I paid I tried to search up on my phone if there is any truth to what she said and found none. I even pointed it out on the cashier when I was about to pay, but I noticed earlier that soon after the lady who inspected the tendon left our table they already talked about it in their common tongue, so the cashier just said that they commonly get this complaint. Neither staff offered to remove the charges for the dish or any discount. Throughout the ride home I still feel disgusted and sick to my stomach (It could be mostly psychological but I know that whatever I ate wont sit well in my tummy). I even tried to do more research to see if I could find any other viable explanation to make myself feel better i.e. veins but it I just cannot explain why these strands are 3 of the same length and its as fine and tough as human hair. read more

I love this place 2 of us can go out and eat for under $20, it's healthier and takes about the same time as a drive thru for food to get to your table. If you're looking for a quiet romantic dinner, don't come here it's loud as fuck, usually extremely crowded (to the point the people next to you have to scream to understand you) but if you're just looking for a good place to fill your belly stop by, the food is so worth it!! The service is amazing you can be in and out in 20 mins depending how quickly you down your meal. I usually get #74( lemon grass pork, spring rolls noodle bowl) I don't know what they do to the pork but no one else's in town compares, I'm not a big soup person so I can't say much about the pho other than my bf loves it and won't eat it anywhere else. So if you're looking for good Asian food and are willing to take a white girls opinion on what is good, you should take the time and stop in to Pho 99. Then finally someone comes and asks me "What did you order again" I said "Did you forget my order" they completely forgot about my order and it never arrived. I just left. (twentyfour/thirty) After a long, tiring, crappy closing shift at my place of employment, and with the weather literally puking rain, I knew I wanted pho. Something salty, something hot, something tasty to cook my insides and make my lousy day a little better. I knew Pho Hoa was open until 11pm. I've never been to the Coquitlam location, but I am familiar with the one in Guildford. I walked all the way over to find the door locked, "Open" sign off, yet with a sign on the door telling me that they were open until 11pm, and it was not even 9:30! Whatever, the hell with you, Pho Hoa. Not to be defeated, I walked over to Pho 99. They were pretty empty when I got in, but tables quickly filled. I ordered the house special with rare beef, brisket, tendon and tripe, and without onion or cilantro (yuck!). My order came out minutes after I placed it. Considering I was grumpy and hungry and freezing, it did in a pinch, but it definitely wasn't very good. The broth was piping hot, but I've experienced better flavor at other pho places. The meat was cut in pieces too large, and the noodles were underdone. With other pho places just steps away, I won't be giving this place a second go. read more

Tucked away in a little corner near a grocery store is this pleasant little Pho house. Had #5 Pho and was not disappointed. The broth was stellar and the brisket was cut thin enough to just melt in your mouth but not too thin to still be substantial. Also had a Vietnamese coffee and it was pleasantly strong, thick and sweet. It's just too bad it wasn't hot enough and the "hot" water they provided was tepid. Definitely would come back. read more

I give 1 stars for the food. I had a fantastic omelette sandwich which was fresh and salty with a lime soda. The food IS good but they lose 4 stars for service. I never leave a review for Pho places as they are usually hit or miss with standard service. But this pissed me off. I ordered a VEGGIE soup, which came in beef broth. I flagged down a waitress who flagged down the younger one. She told me repeatedly they don't have veggie pho even though the menu said so, and she NOW tells me it's beef broth. I also asked for a small and got a large. I send it back stating I was a vegetarian. I got stares from the staff across the restaurant, as the young one told some story that blamed the customer. They continued to stare at me and talk. I should have left but i was so hungry. I waited a while for my sandwich and even longer for my drink, they were clearly ignoring me at this point. No one came by or got my my bill. I went to pay and left a 20% tip, just to remind them that treating a customer like a an asshole when they were misinformed, make YOU the asshole. The only smile I got was when the receipt was printing. I will never ever come here. I highly recommend Pho Holiday instead or go to Starbucks if you are in the plaza. read more

Good pho noodles and lemon grass chicken with vermicelli and spring rolls! Yummm!! I have noticed that the serving sizes for the noodles and meat have decreased more and more over the years. When they first opened - the portions were huge! A No.4 large was definitely Large! Now, it's more like a medium. The noodles really hit the spot on those cold days -but I notice I get REALLY thirsty afterwards... I think they need to tone down on the salt and the MSG. read more

Unless you come in at a dead time the seating really sucks. You are often sat with another group you don't know. That is my biggest complaint other than that the service is decent and the food comes fast. The pho isn't anything incredibly special but it is better than some I have tried.
