Everyone in my group loves the food and the services here. My aunt went to visit her longtime friend and brought her friend out for a lunch. We asked for a good Vietnamese restaurant and she recommended this one. All the foods we ordered are very good. They are authentic. The service is beyond our expectations. We ordered a cup of cafe sue da. A few of us tasted it and we decide to order a few more, but and prefer less sweet. I don't mind and decide that I will own the first cup. More coffee that we ordered were served. A few minutes later, Unexpectedly, the gentlemen came and switched my cup with a new less sweet one. If you are Asian, you probably think like me that this is not normal at all for Asian restaurants to provide the service at this level. read more

Not sure what has changed, but this used to be my favourite pho place for many years. The pho is noticeably different, not as flavourful, not as much toppings, and not as hot temperature wise. It is now considered a good place to go for pho when in the area but I now look for others now first, sad. read more

Fantastic food! The pho is super delicious and soul warming. The large bowl is super big and can be finished only if you have skipped your earlier meals!! The medium size is enough for a normal person! The broth is tasty and definitely not salty. The taste becomes a bit bland after a point but there are many condiments on the table with which you can spruce up your bowl. This review is for the Pho Tau Bay restaurant located on King George Boulevard in Surrey. Dropped by this place for a snack after finishing an event near by thinking Pho is always good. We ordered 2 bowls of rare beef pho bowls, salad rolls and a drink and found the portions and food to be mediocre at best. What was more disappointing was the unfriendly service of our server. She was obviously unhappy that we didn't order that much food, and when we changed our mind about one of the items, she rolled her eyes, and asked "Is that it?". Because we haven't been here before, we asked her opinion about 2 items under consideration, and she responded with - "just tell me which one you want". My son was afraid to ask for a glass of water fearful of the response we might get, and the water took it's time making it to our table. I get it was a late night, and business was slow, but customer service is still important. The ambience of this place was just not appealing. What a disappointment. Where do I start? We were greeted by a woman with blue plastic gloves who had a knife from Cutting jalapeños (hence the blue gloves) told us sit on side and then with same gloves she proceeds to take another customers payment on debit machine. Gross. Sat down and then not even looking at first page of menu, another lady asking us our order. We literally did not even pour our tea!! Chill out woman!!! Hubs ended up getting chicken and spring roll with rice, and I got rare beef flank and beef ball pho with side of spring roll on side $1.95+ extra. Food arrive about 13 minutes as it was pretty busy inside. Well mine had no noodles. Maybe a kids combo size of noodles and just all broth. I had to ask for more bean sprouts as they are extremely cheap with portion size!! I ordered a LARGE DAMNIT!!! People in food industry or purchase bean sprouts on a regular know that a small fistfuls doesn't even cost 10cents!!! But what did it for me was the broth and the oil allover. Broth usually later in the evening is a bit watered down tasting, like some wonton houses, but this was so salty, I felt like I was in the Red Sea!!! Then the oil. OMG I could probably scoop about 1/2 bottle of just oil. It's not like my meats I ordered were fatty? There was hardly any noodle and for $9.95 + $1.95+ for spring roll = NOT WORTH IT. It is now hard, tasteless and gristley (hard chewy fat). Sadly, they have lost two customers. Go to the Pho Tau Bay on 148th at 108th. Easy there; not 5 stars, but close to a 4star, this is definitely one of the nicest, casual Vietnamese places, would put those Kingsway ones back home in Vancouver to shame. Only opened 4 months. Quite modern: nice tiling, long back vinyl chairs, patterned tables, even a long fish tank for show purposes of goldfish, what else in an asian resto--means good luck lol. free parking, albeit a bit tight. 3 flat screen TVs. Clean washrooms but individual ones. Like the open kitchen, chefs actually wore a real black uniform, cap to cover hair, extra bonus ;) Fast service. oh, forgot about the food lol. Good pho, ordered the medium size meat balls, just right for $7.50. Passed the iced coffee test, would recommend this & resto to any Yelper if one is in this part of the hood. One of the cleanest, newer style looking Vietnamese restaurants I have ever been in (for now!) and surprisingly the food was good too. After having one hell of a time finding some good wine roaming around the Langley area we just gave up and needed some food. This one was bookmarked, and it wasn't too far off the beaten path, so we came, guided by the GPS, not knowing what this place looked like, or where it really was. We got to the front, finally finding the joint, and it looked promising, very new, we decided to walk in. Tons of parking in the front, came in to this very new looking, bright restaurant. The first thing I noticed was the huge fish tank on the right side, filled with big bright red parrot fish, but the star of the tank was the huge arowana, that fish was massive (used to have on in our family, and I wonder how much they feed this thing). They also had 3 flat screen tv's around the place, at the time we were there they were playing 'Teen Wolf'. They sat us down at a table near the back, gave us two menu's, and we looked through what they had. My partner already was set on her order, so we decided to share a bowl of Bun Bo Hue, and order a Vietnamese iced coffee. While our order was put in, we noticed the open concept kitchen. Behind clear glass you can see where your meals are being prepared. I was amazed at the cleanliness of the stove hoods, for all of you "I gotta eat at a clean restaurant where I can see the kitchen" this one won't disappoint one bit. Our large sized BBH eventually came with the coffee on ice. The BBH looked promising, steam coming from the bowl, garnished with cilantro, seeing some thinly sliced onions floating above, with some paper thin cut meats in the center, a good square of porks blood with another square looking like Vietnamese sausage, some green onions, time for the test. First thing we always do is try the soup on it's own. The soup was clear, and clean, there was some slight feeling of MSG (magical sprinkled goodness) at the end of the meal, but nothing to warrant the fire-truck to come out to douse us with water. The round rice noodles were abudant in the bowl, and cooked just right, not soggy, with a good bite, and taking in each bite with what was offered in the bowl, made it just right. Sometimes when meats are cut too thick it could weigh heavy after finishing the meal, this wasn't the case for the meats given, not overly much, but easy to eat due to the paper thin cutting. No pork knuckle was in the bowl (usually a staple), no matter, it was good regardless. I was expecting the Vietnamese ice coffee served in it's strainer, then on the side, another cup of ice to pour the heavy concentrate after allowing it to drip, but instead it was all served in a glass of ice, for me something about taking my experience away, which I'm not used to, the drink still did the job. In the end I would definitely come back, try some of their other items on the menu there is some promise here, and as I don't come into Surrey that often, probably one of my 'now' favorite Vietnamese restaurants in this area. Another, cool, if not odd thing is, if you are watching, and following, what is on TV and you got to go to the toilet, don't worry, the speakers in the washroom are playing what's on tv, so you can still follow the action in sound. read more

A Vietnamese friend vouched this place as one of the best pho places in lower mainland and since I was making a trip to Surrey I decided to give it a try. As noted in some of the reviews below, this is a cleaner and nicer looking pho restaurant. On a Tuesday at 6ish, I was expecting a lineup but only two tables were occupied when I went in. Strange. Maybe 'cause of the heat, the demand for a hot bowl of pho isn't as strong. Didn't get a chance to take a picture of the updated menu but the first thing I noticed was the price difference. For a medium it's $9.25 and for a large it's $9.95. Ok! This better be some good pho! I had the pho dac biet with a spring roll (3/5- $9.25+1.95): I didn't see any combo's but at the very bottom there's add extra $1.95 for spring roll and so I did. The picture showed two but maybe that's an appy serving. It didn't occur to me that ONE tiny spring would cost me 2 bucks. I got the medium size and it looked more like a small at the other places I've been to. They do give you lots of toppings though. Other than that the broth was good but not blow your mind good. They give us sliced jalapeno peppers. Not spicy enough for me so I requested red chili's and he gave me two whole ones. I didn't bother to ask him to dice it up for me so I just broke it in half and it didn't add much heat. The spring roll wasn't good. The skin was crispy but that's all I can say about it. Pho Tau Bay in Newton is well decorated with new furnishings and seems generally clean compared to other pho joints in Surrey. Prices are reasonable and the portions are good size. The food tasted fine, but our soup wasnt exactly hot, more warm than hot. The tea was also luke warm. The rice dish we ordered was came with a very generous portion of chicken. Service sucks! We walk in, the tiny skinny Blonde lady does not even greet us much less give us a smile! I ordered the number 1 and got tripe, and yucky tendon in my soup! I ordered steak brisket! How do you give me tendon, and tripe??? When I tell the unpleasant waitress who thinks she is doing me a favour, she brings out the exact same bowl with less tripe and tendon. No smile. No sorry. I'm not a huge fan of pho/Vietnamese food, but a lot of my friends are, my husband particularly. Whenever he craves pho he has to go with one of his friends. I was actually a bit excited that we stumbled upon this place because I actually liked it! Once in awhile I have to work late in Surrey and by the time I'm off we are both hungry. If we drove back closer to home, we'd both be a bit hangry. This place is near my work so we tried it one time and I was pleasantly surprised. The best pho I've ever had! At other pho places, the soup comes out with bubbles and with meat residues. This place's soup comes out so clear and hot! The ingredients are really fresh too. I don't think they use MSG but I haven't asked to confirm. I believe this location is one of a few locations in this side of town (Langley, Maple Ridge, places I don't usually go to). But whenever I have to work in Surrey, it's a treat for my husband because he doesn't have to twist my arm to let him have some pho. I usually have the pho with chicken balls but I'm also not one to be adventurous. I stick to what I like and they have delicious chicken balls. I also like their Pork & Shrimp Salad Rolls (I get it without the basil) when I'm not too hungry. Super fresh! Their spring rolls are a must! (cheaper when adding an extra spring roll as a side to your pho than ordering some on its own). They are the bomb! So fresh and comes out really hot, I have to be careful not to burn the roof of my mouth. The spring rolls at other places you can tell they either refry or use old oil (dark in colour). This place the rolls come out in a nice, clean, golden colour and aren't too greasy! I personally haven't had any of their rice dishes, I'm more of a noodles person. But the dishes smell really good and looks fresh and yummy as well. Service is quite good for a Vietnamese restaurant. I've been to my fair share of them to know they don't necessarily have service. I think the really nice servers/owners don't work here anymore, but the new ones are still decent. Just don't be expecting exceptional service. You also have to walk up to the till to pay. The price is pretty average for pho. Sadly, they've increased the prices recently :( But we are still inclined to come back when I have to work late in Surrey :) To bad it's just too far to go on a regular basis! read more

My favourite pho place in the lower mainland! I've had my fair share of pho but have to say Pho Tau Bay is the best. This location is trendier looking than it's other locations but the food at both the one in Guildford and Newton are on par with each other. Atmosphere: Super nice. It's very well decorated and furnished with a huge fish tank when you enter. Hygiene is something that can be questionable at some pho restaurants but it's very clean and slick here. Service: I have yet to have bad service. The servers tend to be the same since it's family owned and are always inviting and accommodating to any requests I have. Food: Delicious! Not only are the portions huge for the minimal cost, but the broth is hearty and rich (I tend not to like to drink much of the broth at some pho restaurants but can drink most of it here since it tastes so good!) They serve a lot of noodles as well - you'll walk out of the restaurant full. My favourite is the raw beef rice noodle soup but my partner likes the egg noodle soups or wonton based soups as well. If we want a smaller meal, we share a large raw beef rice noodle + extra noodles (ends up being about $11 and we walk out pleasantly full!) Tip: Be kind to the servers. If you're nice to them, they'll be nice to you (and load up on the noodles :) ) Also, bring cash to the Guildford location while the Newton one allows credit cards. read more

Been to this place many times now and it is fabulous but still think they need to bring those big spring rolls as a menu item. Food: Every dish I (and others) have tried so far has been awesome. The broth in their soup is really tasty. Not many other Pho places nearby that could compete with this place (except places in Richmond, Vancouver etc). For Surrey and Delta, this is the go-to place and even better than a lot of Vancouver Pho restaurants. Location: Convenient location and easy to get to. Easiest entrance is off King George Northbound. The parking lot gets busy especially with a Shoppers and Save On in the same complex. Service: Never had a bad experience here. They only have one large round table so if you have a group of 8-10, call ahead. When it's busy, they use the round table for multiple small groups. Price: Ok, but could be a bit cheaper for an urban location. Rent isn't as high as Vancouver so I think the price should reflect it. Repeat: Definitely come back (again and again). read more

Came in today for a nice, yummy, casual lunch, and that's exactly what we got. Upon entering, we noticed the gorgeous and incredibly huge freshwater fishtank, with this almost 3 ft long and apparantly rare/pricey Asian imported fish. The staff greeted us warmly, and the interior was quite modern and very clean and tidy. The food: was delicious, classic pho. We had 2 noodle soup bowls- one with with chicken balls and one with beef balls- very tasty. It's one of the most clean Vietnamese restaurants I've been to. I don't know whether it was because of the clear window peeking into the kitchen but it just felt like it was a notch higher than most of the Vietnamese joints. I liked how they brought out a little dipping dish for those of us who love to to dip the meat into the hot sauce or hoisin sauce. It's those little touches that can enhance one's experience. They also have chill oil, regular hot sauce and chill paste. I ordered the house special pho with the works. The noodle and the broth were both very tasty. 1 Star for the pho because it was decent. HORRIBLE service. We couldn't even ask for things we needed because they would leave as soon as they dropped off our food to sit and talk with each other. There were 4 workers and none of them came up to check on us. I had to walk up to them to ask for water and when we asked for to go boxes for a second time, our waitress looked really annoyed. The first time I came here, it was during a weekend day. In fact, I think they had just opened for the day. I told them I was in a hurry and they served my pho very quickly. Pho was good. About 3 mos. later I came with my wife and our friends, six of us in all. It was on a weekend again but later in the day. The place was busier but I wouldn't say it was packed. Service was much worse. I got the impression that our waitress was new to the job. It also took a long time for the food to arrive. They also forgot to bring the plate of bean sprouts etc that normally accompanies pho. In both cases, I thought the food was good and portions about normal. I wouldn't say anything stood out as being above average except for the cleanliness of the place. I would come here again but only if it happened to be very convenient to my schedule and location. read more

My family usually frequents Pho Tau Bay's Guildford location a lot, so I decided to check this new location with a friend. A bit more spacious and cleaner than the other location, service is quick but don't expect them to be all nice. I made the mistake of ordering a large house special instead of the medium size (it's only ~$0.70 to upgrade from med to large), while my friend ordered the pho with chicken balls only. Broth wasn't loaded with MSG like most pho restaurants I've been too, the ratio of meat to rice noodles is perfect, the type of beef they used for the rare slices could've been better. I was super full about 2/3 of my way through (this was the point where I realized I should've got a medium). My friend really liked her pho too, I should've asked to try one of the chicken balls. Good value for the amount of food you get, though I usually only go for the pho (which is probably their best dish). (Btw they do accept payment by card, and will split the bill for you - which I don't usually expect from most Asian restos!) Pho Tau Bay never lets me down. read more
