Been here a few times now. Crowded at lunch time! The banh mi baguettes are always toasted perfectly and the deep fried spring rolls always a hit. Older son tried them for the first time this evening and I'm so pleased he enjoyed them! Younger son tried chicken wings and loved them so now we know what to order next time when we bring the kids. Pho 99 might be my favourite pho spot. It doesn't necessarily make the most unique pho or rice plates, but any dish you get there is so reliably good and consistent for incredible value. There's also not many places you can get the ice bean dessert (the equivalent of malaysian chendol). We used to come here a lot. On a weekly basis type of - a lot. Then something changed one day. As if the place changed owners -nope, just that all the wait staff all quit all 5-6 of them. Quite drastic. There was a bit of struggle hence onward regarding service. Before then, this joint was lively and vibrant. We got to know the servers and the cooks. Their hobbies and musical interests. Was a bit crazy when they all left at the same time. They might not have said it, the work must have been difficult, I bet. Anyways I digress. The food here is alright not gourmet. It is everydayness quality without really contemplating refinement like Little Minh for example. If this joint was a student, she/he is a C+ student. We were in the Pinetree Village area of Coquitlam for some personal business the other day, and when finished, lunch was definitely in order. We saw Pho 99 nearby, so handy, decided to give it a try. Walked in about 11 am, liked how we were greeted, what we saw, and headed to the table directly in front of the service counter. Service was good -- our server brought hot tea (pot and mugs) and menus quickly (a large placemat type showing all offerings, and a small one of lunch specials), and provided some needed help with ordering. What we (a threesome) ordered and shared -- 'Combo A' - a lunch special of rice w/pork, large (beef) pho, and two spring rolls -- and added an order of chicken wings. Our food order came from the kitchen to table in a timely manner - except for one minor 'wrinkle' in the serving sequence. We had hoped to see the wings first, as a sort of appetizer, but they arrived last, and well after everything else - almost wings for dessert - ok, but not expected. Servings were well-sized, and all arrived looking good. The dishes were well-prepared, ingredients plentiful, and nicely and distinctly flavoured. Pho -- broth warm and tasty, beef (two kinds) tender, and juicy, vermicelli noodles cooked perfectly, condiments fresh, and crisp. Spring rolls -- warm, large, crispy coatings, and well-stuffed with tasty ingredients. Rice & pork -- pork warm, well-seasoned, very tasty, salad cool, fresh, and crisp, rice warm and good. Chicken wings -- warm, large, plump, nicely-seasoned coatings, tender and moist chicken. All accompanying sauces flavourful and tasty. We enjoyed our lunch at Pho 99 -- small place, rather quiet ambiance, friendly staff, good service, and well-prepared food. Love this place for pho! This is the only pho 99 location that lets me order the kids size which is the perfect size for me. The taste of their pho is always perfect. Their spring rolls are to die for and always served piping hot. The only downside to this restaurant is they can sometimes be very busy with a line out the door. Pho 99 is a Vietnamese chain restaurant in the lower mainland, I'm one not to be a big fan of chain restaurants but I do enjoy Pho 99. It's my go to. They're pretty consistent and fast. I go to this location during my lunch break. Always busy and staff are friendly, they can be loud at times but I just imagine myself in Vietnam somewhere, not understanding the language around me. I'm not big on Pho, I generally order vermicelli with lemon grass pork or chicken with spring rolls. Very filling and for under $11 you cant beat it. I'm usually in and out within 20 minutes. I love the chicken wings here! I'm not s big fan of pho but my parents and bro like having pho here. Back to the wings. It's friend chicken and they include a seasoning that has the right amount of saltiness and flavour. It really adds to the chicken wings. The service is good and the food comes out fast. When the items were ready I was flagged by the staff member, who was on the phone, to take my order. This is a fairly clean Pho restaurant and the food came within 5 minutes of ordering. I was worried that it wouldn't be piping hot, but indeed it was. The prices were a smidge higher than other places, but their portions are also bigger. I had the #14, which is the Pho noodle soup with rare beef slices, brisket, tendon and tripe. This location is pretty dark and rundown looking, but the pho has been consistently good over the years. While I have watched prices go from $6.75 to almost $10 for a small bowl of pho, I still like to give them my business because all these years they've managed to maintain a competitive edge over some of the other local establishments with generous portions at a reasonable price. They definitely put in a lot more protein than the average shop, so great for meat lovers! The broth is generally really flavourful. In the off chance, it's sometimes a little on the greasier side, but still overall good for my liking. Service is pretty average, but I also don't choose to go to pho restaurant for top notch service. read more

November 17, 2016 Literally the worst food I have had. My boyfriend came home from work at 930pm, and suggested pho. We saw this place was open late and decided to give it a go. We arrived at 1025 and were never greeted. A server dropped menus on the table and kept walking. She later returned with water.... Never asked if we wanted anything else to drink, and when I ordered the lemingrass chicken and fried roll vermicelli bowl, she said "no more fried roll" I laughed and said "okay. Ill just be one more minute". The response I got was "you know the kitchen is closing right". So I politely asked for "just two seconds I swear" and she ran off to wherever. After a minute she came back and asked for our order looking exasperated. We ordered two salad rolls to start, my boyfriend ordered a simple small beef soup, and I got the prawn and lemongrass chicken vermicelli. After 4 minutes my boyfriends soup came. After 10 minutes, the appy came. I was served my mean at 10:55. It was oily, flavorless, even after I had dosed it with hoisin, and chili oil....the salad rolls were loose and also flavorless... And after about 10 minutes of eating I gave up. I was starting to feel physically ill. No one came to quality check us, no one even dropped a bill. When we went to the desk to pay, whoever was talking our money asked how everything was. We said "you know. Really not great. The food was sub par and the service was awful. We are very dissapointed." and I added "I feel kind of sick acctually." He responded in kind with " huh. Sorry. 23.85" I will call in the morning to see if anyone at all that works there gives a shit, but never in my 30 years of eating out have I ever been so dissapointed. Ever. This has been our go-to family Pho place for over 10 years. They have watched two of our children grow up as we eat there or pick up 2-3 times a month. We love it. However, we have noticed an unwelcoming decline over the last year. The staff is not friendly, the restaurant is not organized and the broth has been hit or miss. There is a change- was it ownership? did they fire the staff and hire people who just don't care?! We were last in on Monday, and I really think it will be our last time- we didn't have utensils or condiments at our table. They gave our family of 5 2 napkins (all napkin dispensers have been removed from the tables), I don't know who you have to be to get served tea or water but we certainly weren't them- i'm guessing its because we interrupted their dinner? (two servers were on the floor with mouths full of food) We will be giving pho51 by PoCo Walmart a shot on our next family pho night signed ~2 Lg #1, sm #1 , #60 2 salad rolls & a chicken sub. updated: I couldn't let it go, so I called them just now and told the person answering the phone all of my concerns. I love the food here. We always have pho, of course, and it is delicious. I have had the beef and the vegetarian and have enjoyed both. We have also had a few chicken and rice dishes and have been happy, as well as the Vietnamese subs. The ambience isn't great, nor is the service, the waitresses all look miserable and never, ever, ever bring the meals at the same time or in any sort of logical order, though this seems to be common of Vietnamese restaurants...no big deal. The prices are great though, and the portions are perfect. It's always fairly busy, so clearly lots of people enjoy the food. Go for the food or take away...yum! read more

Oh was this place every good! Just a small hole in the wall really but man do they serve a great bowl of pho. I ordered the Dinner special. It comes with a large bowl of Pho, lemongrass pork chop ,rice and 2 spring rolls. ALl this for $17...not too shabby! Broth was light yet flavourful! Meat was lean, veggies were crisp.What more can you ask for? The lemongrass pork chop was cooked so nicely! The flavours were spot on. I didn't even need the Fish sauce... What was once our regular Pho-to Vietnamese restaurant is ruined by horrible staff. Rude servers who make fun of the clientèle in plain sight is not acceptable...and have no place in a service industry that serves food. We were so surprised to receive this kind of treatment after going there faithfully and tipping very well for years. We over looked sticky floors..tables..walls..general uncleanliness and disrepair (bathrooms were never in clean working order and always had to go to Chapters)..and just considered it to be part of the charm of warm comfort food. The truth is there is nothing comforting about this restaurant, their food or the people that work here. Pho99 is a chain..so not exactly family secret recipes. The next time we have a craving for Pho we'll swing over to the next plaza and try PhoHoa...I think there are 4 other alternatives near by. Don't come to this location. If you've never been its not woth trying. If you've been before and are still reading reviews about this place...follow your instincts and pick a new Pho place. read more

Had a chance to check out this Pho establishment in Coquitlam while I was there on the weekend. I was pretty hesitatnt, as I've said before I rather enjoy my home-made Pho but when you're not home you have to find somewhere else to eat at! They had a very delicious broth, not too over-powering, the beef was sliced perfectly and the beef balls were a great size too. We also ordered some spring rolls and you only get 2 per plate but they are 2-3 x the size of normal spring rolls so I suppose it works out the same. The employees there were always looking over to see if we needed anything and that's always a plus when eating at a Vietnamese restaurant. Definitely would go there again. read more

I'm amazed at how fast the service is. I just walked in, placed my order, then went to wash my hands. When I returned to my table, the plate of garnishes and a pot of tea were waiting for me. After a couple more minutes, my pho soup arrived. I was hungry so I devoured it. As far as pho goes, the meat and noodles were better than the other reviewers have said. But the soup wasn't as rich and thick as I'm used to pho being. And it wasn't very hot either (double edged sword: too hot burns your tongue, not hot enough doesn't cook the meat. Fortunately it was hot enough to cook the raw meat.) I also ordered a plate of deep fried spring rolls. Those were amazing. Larger than I'm used to, full of meat, and very tasty. The hostess and wait staff (they perform double duty) are friendly and cheerful. And they have a new computerized POS system so they gave me a copy of my receipt (also unlike an earlier review.) Ordered the lemongrass chicken and shrimp today, along with 5 other vermicelli bowls for our work inventory day. Pretty dang yummy. I also had the cold Vietnamese coffee which hit the sweet spot. Everything was made fresh and fast for such a big order and the place was filled to capacity when we picked up at lunch too. Service is also usually friendly. Only thing I can't stand are their super greasy, oily floors. I don't know what the hell they're using to clean it (or hopefully they are cleaning it!) but it's so slippery all the time. Unfortunately I can't review the food because I only ever get the Lemongrass Chicken and Noodles +/- the salad rolls. I don't like to try new things. HOWEVER - the 2 I get are DELICIOUS. Large portions, delicious, service is PROMPT, even when they are smoking busy. Place is always full, but ample seating and atmosphere is casual and place is never too loud. Staff are always friendly and polite. One lady remembered me after my FIRST visit, and even if months go by, if she answers the phone when I order she REMEMBERS ME!! HOW??? AND she always remembers what I want. And I always customize it and she remembers that too! So crazy. Highly recommend this place. From what I hear about the OTHER dishes (from friends I go with) they are also delicious. Never had a complaint. Also the tea they serve for free is really good.
