My aunt got me Com Tam Ga Nuong takeout for my lunch. Vegetables were kept separate so they don't get warm and soggy. The portions here are HUGE! I got so much chicken and rice--I was STUFFED. The chicken was really juicy, tender, and flavourful. Perfect for a soft mouth. The rice was good. Vegetables were fresh. The nuoc mam was too sweet, but still edible. This is my go to Pho, even though there are a couple good pho places close to my house, I drive across Surrey to go to Pho Tau Bay. The broth is just soooooo good! I haven't tasted better anywhere. They also have the best spring rolls. Prices are reasonable- a tad more expensive than your typical pho joint but the value is definitely there. If you can, I recommend to eat in. Located in the same parking lost as the Macs and subway and theres alot of free parking spots available as long as you dont go at such a crazy time(gets packed). The best pho I've had thus far. I've been going here since I was a child. The restaurant has been recently renovated to have a bit of a more modern look. The restaurant is about a 5-10 minute drive from Guildford Town Centre, so it isn't too far. A couple of servers don't know much English, but have enough knowledge of the language to understand orders and everything you may need. They're nice and very quick. The food is amazing. Their pho is "phonomenal", everything about it is great. The broth is very rich, there's a lot of meat in the bowl, and a good amount of noodles to fill you up. Their vermicelli and rice plates are just as good too. You can never go wrong with what you order. There's also Vietnamese iced coffee there too, which is delicious. I found this place randomly in 2004 when I lived close, and after trying it (delicious) and every other Pho place I could find in Greater Vancouver and Calgary, it's still easily the best Pho place I've ever had the pleasure of visiting - the broth is rich with an amazing scent, the meat is super tender, the noodles are always cooked perfectly and there's something amazing about their spring rolls. There are MANY MANY pho places in Richmond, but when we are in the outskirts of Greater Vancouver, we always always go here. This is a must go for anyone who loves Pho. We stopped by for a late lunch and enjoyed some pho and spring rolls. The pho was loaded with toppings! The broth was very flavourful. It seems like Surrey Vietnamese restaurants generally load up on the toppings generously when compared to Burnaby and Vancouver. The spring roll was alright. I prefer rice wrappers over the wheat wrappers. There was a decent amount of filling. Service was subpar. We were borderline about to walkout after flagging staff to take our orders but the staff kept dropping food off to other customers and just looked at us. Finally someone eventually took our order. The customers who showed up after us received their food first. The kitchen messed up on the no onions for an order and tried to remove as much onion out of the order so the pho arrived with meat topping mostly cooked. The food is a solid 4 stars. This is one of the best spots for Vietnamese food in surrey. The pho broth is always good and their plates are delicious as well. They give you a lot of chicken for their lemon grass and it isn't too sweet either...unlike some other places. Service is always good too. Same guy is always working he's very polite ... (This used to be the old Hearty Boy for those in the know ;) It isn't very clean, but what Pho place is? The food was terrific. I wasn't completely satisfied but I wasn't disappointed either. If you want to go for the best Pho in Surrey this isn't the place to go. The cleanliness as mentioned by another Yelper was unsatisfactory. At least the waitress cleaned the table as we sat down. The reusable chopsticks were gross and sticky. They shouldn't have the bottom sticking upward as people will touch the tips while grabbing their own. There was a lot of green vegetables in the Pho. I've been to Pho Tau Bay a total of three times now. The two times I have been, I've eaten at the restaurant, while the third, I got take-out. The broth is out of the world. There is just something about it that makes me crave pho from here everytime I drive by or am thinking of what to eat. Take-out was fast and packed amazingly. I am giving this place only 2 stars. The pho with steak and brisket was delicious but the customer service was seriously awful! We had to ask a few times to get someone to come get our order, & when he finally came over, he was rushing off! The order came wrong as I expected for 3 of us but mine was exactly what I ordered and it was delicious! They did not bother fixing the 3 other issues on his part probably because he did not write down the order and was in a rush!!!He kept saying that the kitchen is way too busy & to please just take the order! Then, we get charged for 2 items that we never received! When I asked the lady at cash what are these 2 things I got charged for- she snaps at me as if I was at fault. She then proceeds to mumble in her language whatever whatever and the guy had to come help diffuse the situation and still no apology- they took it off the bill ( as I don't pay for things I do not receive or eat!) It is all about 2 things- the food and customer service! But, the pho was delicious. Would I go back? No!!! The service was seriously so terrible that they should know that there are tons of other Vietnamese Pho places all around, and if you lack customer service- then you will lose business. Let me start off with saying that this place is a hole in the wall kind of restaurant. The entire place needs to be renovated - if not CLEANED (Dirty tables, floors, rugs, chairs etc.). The staff is a hit or miss, sometimes I'll have a wonderful waiter/waitress, and other times I'll get a waitress that is dumb and slow as hell. Another problem is that it's "Cash Only"...most pho places I've been have a debit machine at least....but that's the least of my worries about this place. I've been here on several occasions and the pho has always been consistent...and returning to my complaint about how the place needs to be cleaned from top to bottom... one time I found a fucking roach hanging out in my pho and another occasion, hair floating around with the noodles!!! The owner took the situation lightly and just gave me another bowl of pho...but meal was not compensated of course. That's unacceptable and disgusting. I wonder if the health inspector has taken a tour of this place yet... Came here after another random trip to Surrey and I wanted something not very Tim Hortons-y so we came here. This place is a little dive Vietnamese diner that maintains it's "original" design. What this placed lacked in aesthetics was more than compensated for in service and speed. This was a pretty good beef noodle place. I had rare beef and beef ball and spring roll. I think lemon grass spring roll beats this spring roll hands down but was ok (not too oily). Beef came out fully cooked in the soup so was bit tough (but many pieces) but the beef balls were very bouncy and tasty (but so few). The soup was very good with lots of green onion and good flavor. Hmmm....I was expecting more after reading the other reviews. I got the vermicelli rice noodle bowl with spring rolls. Out of all the Pho places I've ever been to (US and Canada), this place served the smallest bowl. I wish I took a picture. If you are on a restricted diet then it's probably the right portion, but comparing it to other places it's lacking in both veggies and noodles.
