Great menu and all the dishes I have had here are great. The Saigon egg rolls are a must and the salad rolls are fresh and peanut sauce is good. I generally the the beef noodle soup with rare beef slices and meatballs but have had some of the other combinations and they are all delicious. Curry chicken on rice is good and so is the vermicelli. Can't go wrong with any of the meals and you leave full but not feeling bloated or stuffed as nothing is too heavy and all seems kinda like healthy eating. read more

We came on a weekday evening for dinner and was immediately greeted by an enthusiastic server upon walking in. The restaurant is not big but does have ample of seating (including booths). It was around half full when we arrived so there was no wait but it got busier as the night progressed. There is a good variety of soup noodle dishes, rice, vermicelli, and appetizers - the typical dishes found in Vietnamese restaurants. We both opted for a soup noodle. What stood out what that their broth seemed quite "clear" meaning that it wasn't overly salty like some other restaurants that pack their soups with MSG. It could have been a touch more flavourful and fragrant as there was just a very subtle hint of the spices and herbs in the broth. The meats were thinly sliced so the beef was practically cooked by the time we received the dishes. The meats were also quite lean so they were tough. We understand that food costs are very high right now, but we were kind of surprised that tea costed $1 per person (server did not tell us) and we weren't given refill or the teabag. The sauces for the noodles came in a little condiment dish so if you want extra hot sauce, you have to pay extra. Portion was a bit small for the prices charged. I ordered a medium and got full from drinking some of the broth and eating 2 people's portion of beansprouts (my partner didn't eat his portion). Service is good though - the server was friendly and always had a smile on his face. While the meal was enjoyable, nothing stood out for us. read more

Mai's is excellent! The food was super tasty and came out quickly. The service was professional and efficient. We had the Hanoi salad spring rolls to start- surprisingly large- yay! I had the NHA Trang Beef stew which was amazing- big chunks of tender beef with similarly big carrot chunks. Lots of noodles too - how did I eat all that? A mystery of anatomy I suppose. Ordered takeout and picked it up, they bagged it so the heaviest item was on the top, so when transporting it, it fell over, lost half of the curry all over the other items in bag. As for the food, very forgetable, Pad Thai has no flavor, the curry was just okay and the stirfry really needed to be spiced up, the dishes were very bland. read more

We were in the area and I wanted Vietnamese for lunch. After a quick Yelp search, we ended up at this restaurant. We were seated right away. Menu was available with a QR code on the table. We ordered the house special beef noodle soup, lemongrass sliced beef vermicelli bowl and Saigon spring rolls. Food arrived fairly quickly. Everything was made well. The beef noodle soup had a light broth that was not greasy. There was a decent amount of noodles and beef toppings. The vermicelli bowl was colourful with fresh veggies. The beef was a bit on the chewy side. The spring rolls were perfect. I prefer spring rolls made with rice paper instead of the wheat wrapper. The crispness is just a bit better in my opinion. The pork and mushroom filling was tasty. Covid precautions were in place. There was a plastic barrier between tables. Staff wore masks. Hand sanitizer was available at the front of the restaurant. Restaurant was clean. Prices were higher than average. This was one of the more expensive vermicelli bowls I have eaten. The spring roll was a $5.50 add on which placed the bowl at $21.50. Most competitors would have priced a similar bowl for less. If you like quality Vietnamese food and do not mind paying a bit more, this is a good option in the area. read more

Being in the Langley area a lot, I don't think there are decent Vietnamese restaurants around but the city is coming up ! Price point is not the cheapest in the lower mainland, but the delicious flavour and quality quickly makes up for it. Customer service is fast and attentive, but not too pushy-- Just perfect! Overall I felt very welcome and enjoyed the dishes I ordered. The pho is phenomenal, and Mai's Platter comes with a LOT of food for the price! I came here quite a long time ago and I can't believe I forgot about this little gem! I'm always trying to find new Vietnamese restaurants in Langley that aren't too overpriced and satisfy my tastebuds. This place did the trick! The prices are a tiny bit higher than other places I've been, but I remember they gave lots of noodles, the soup was clear, and there was a good amount of meat. I don't like when the soup is sweet at some places, and Mai's was pretty darn good. Not too sweet, not too salty. I also had a Vietnamese coffee because ya can't go to a Vietnamese restaurant without getting their coffee! It was alright, but I've been to Vietnam so maybe my standards are higher. I came on a weekday lunch and ordered the house special pho - give me all the goodness! I opted for the regular instead of a large (although the large is probably a manageable portion). After adding the necessary bean sprouts and basil, I was ready to dig in. The broth was flavorful without being too overpowering or salty and there was so much meat, for once I was afraid I wouldn't have enough noodle!! I won't say this is the best pho I've had in my life, but it was definitely up there in terms of broth taste, noodle texture, and meat flavor. The service was quick and extremely polite, able to manage a full house and occasional takeouts smoothly. Great food, amazing flavors, nice presentation, staff is very friendly. My only complaint is that they had Alicia Keys "Doesn't mean anything" playing on repeat. I hate to downgrade this to 3 stars, but when I ventured out of Bun (vermicelli) territory, the pho was decidedly average. Further, our server - while friendly - definitely wasn't trained well. Also, they removed several of the delicious curries from the menu. My companion ordered the Hui style soup, which is described on the menu as having vermicelli noodes. It came with thick noodles - a little thinner than udon. Now there may be places in the world where vermicelli is a thick noodle, but I've never been to a Vietnamese restaurant where it was. Anyway, the broth was quite weak as well, so we sent it back and ordered basic pho. However, they both showed up on our bill, and it took a couple conversations before the server finally removed it. That shouldn't have been a question. I can no longer recommend Mai's as anything but an average quality, incredibly clean restaurant, with servers who are - though friendly - inexperienced. read more

Gave 4 stars the first time I came a couple years back. This time went down to 3, probably because I've since had more pho in Vancouver. Definitely not up to the same standard... smaller bowl and less meat for a higher price ($11 for medium, $12 for large but not large enough for even my 10-year-old brother). But I guess that's the difference between the city and the suburb... the place was super busy for Sunday lunch, we barely got a table. All the good reviews looked promising. However, it was mediocre at best. Slightly below average. The broth was okay. Slightly lacking flavour when eaten with the noodles, but tasted okay on its own. The plate of bean sprouts were sparse and didn't have any jalapeño peppers. It was quite overpriced in my opinion. A large pho is $12 and two salad rolls/spring rolls are $11. How does that pricing make any sense? I got a large pho. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as $12 should've been. I probably won't be coming back. read more

Not the authentic traditional Vietnamese cuisine... doesn't taste good at all... won't come back again

Came here on a Sunday night around 7pm a few weeks ago and both bowls of soup noodles ordered were cold, barely room temperature. The broth wasn't even warm enough to cook the rare beef and the beansprouts. The restaurant was half full too. There was a lot of options on the menu that you might not see at most vietnamese menus, but not sure if the rest of them come hot. read more

This place is average. The Phnom Penh noodle was fine. The bbq pork chop was way too salty. It seems a bit pricey but maybe it's on par with the neighbourhood. Service was fine. Place was fine. For Vietnamese food in the valley, Mai's is a cozy beacon in a land of chain restaurants and questionable fast-food Asian joints. I waver between the vermicelli bowls and the house special pho. The pho broth doesn't make me excessively thirsty, which I really like. The spring rolls are also served hot and crunchy, with nice presentation. Service has always been courteous and friendly, and the food is consistent. When I worked across the street I used to come here all the time; now it's reserved for the times when I'm out on that side of the Fraser and need a warm hot bowl of noodles. read more

Nice find! This a Westernized Vietnamese restaurant, not totally authentic, but very good nonetheless. Place is very clean, and the decor and feel is good and warm. Had the coconut chicken curry which was spicy, but not as spicy as it may have been at a pho place... still great though! I have been too many, many vietnamese restaurants, and there is nothing out there even close to good as Mai's. My favorite Pho, and spring rolls, hands down. They also have a ridiculously great coconut curry chicken that makes me drool thinking of it. I feel so happy and satisfied evey time i leave this place. Be warned, it is more expensive than most places i have been too, but i still keep coming back whenever I need the good stuff. The only other place that I have found that is close, is in Portland, Oregon called the boiling bowl. Thats what kind of range I am rating this one on, International. Can't wait to go back again read more

At first I thought the prices were a little high, but then the food came and the bowl was huge and had some good ingredients. I liked that the vermicelli bowl came with some greens and veggies in it. I would have liked a bit more of the broth stuff that goes on it, though. Ah well. What can I say, I like the sauce. Overall, the restaurant is very nice, clean and inviting. It's a bit hard to find, since it is tucked behind a produce store, but once inside it is spacious and nicely decorated. The bathrooms are quite pretty, too. The service was fine and the food tasty and plentiful. I left quite full after a bowl of the lemongrass chicken vermicelli, which was $9. As others have said, there are lots of alternatives to Vietnamese on the menu. However, I didn't see much in the way of vegetarian fare except for mixed vegetable curry. Perhaps the spring rolls are veggie. This is definitely a good place to go for some moderately priced food in a pleasant atmosphere. read more

This place came recc'd because it won Best of the Best. It was really good pho. Was it the Best? Prob not. That's reserved for the Green Leaf in Seattle. But it was delicious. The rare beef was tender. Broth fragrant and tasty. Fresh bean sprouts and Thai basil. Kids liked the spongy beef balls! We also had the Vietnamese coffee. Kinda pricey at 3.75$. Kinda stingy with the condensed milk.. The waitress seemed tired, couldn't be bothered. Bordering on abrupt. My son said she was fine :). Gave her a big tip. read more
