Came here with the family and the first thing we noticed was that the prices are higher compared to other Vietnamese restaurants in the area. They do give you free salad roll if you order more than $30. I got the chicken pho as I was feeling a little bit under the weather. The regular and large size is only $0.75 difference. The pho came out hot with a good amount of chicken pieces. The noodles were a bit clumpy though. My brother got the lemongrass chicken on rice. He said that the chicken didn't have lemongrass flavor. The marinade must not have penetrated the meat yet. The chicken was dry as well. Overall, just so so. There are other better Vietnamese restaurants in the area and with the higher price, this won't be our first choice. read more

When I worked downtown and in Kits, I ate pho at least once a week and I've struggled to find somewhere on par with the best little pho shops in the city out here in the 'burbs. Went here cause it was next to my Doctors appointment out of convenience. Got the house special and my GF got the wonton soup and we both spilt a fried roll. The roll wasn't anything special (it tasted previously frozen and over fried) the broth itself was very bland. Everything else was fine as it's hard to mess up noodles and meat in hot liquid. The attitude from our waitress was less than pleasant, and we felt rushed and unwelcome. The decor inside gives off a very different impression on what experience you're going to get, so props to them for that. Maybe their dry dishes are better! Finally found my pho restaurant in Coquitlam! I moved to the Coq centre area just 4 months ago and since then, I've been trying all the pho restaurants in the neighborhood to find MY pho restaurant, and I found it FINALLY! Just for your reference, I've tried Pho Phu Thinh Restaurant, Delicious Pho, Pho 99, and Pho Hoa. I think the one remaining restaurant we haven't given a chance to is Pho Sen Beef, so I'll update this post when that happens. But in conclusion, for me it's definitely Pho Huy great-great-greater than Pho Hoa, which is greater than Delicious Pho, which is greater than Pho Phu Thinh Restaurant, which is finally greater than Pho 99. I don't know if there's just more MSG or if they are putting something illegal into their broth, but it's just mad delicious in comparison to the rest. I'm a bit of a pho snob when it comes to my broth - it needs to be rich in taste which would equal to many hours of boiling the beef bones, and I find a lot of pho restaurants that aren't located at Vancouver East side to be lacking this element. Pho Huy, however, does it for me. I acknowledge that it's a tad more expensive than other pho restaurants in the neighborhood, but hey, if the difference is this big in terms of taste, I don't mind paying the extra buck for my pho at all. The service is almost always attentive and good. Servers are always accommodating and I like how they leave the cilantro out of your pho to be added by your own discretion with the bean sprouts. They also have these great incentives like getting a can of pop free if you purchase more than 25 dollars before tax, or spring rolls if you purchase more than 35. All in all, I will definitely be back at Pho Huy and definitely recommend it to you all. read more

Another cold wet day in the Lower Mainland and was craving something warm and comforting but didn't want to venture too far. Pho Huy is not too far from home and also conveniently located near my drycleaner and a Michael's so why not (plus Yelpers kinda like this place!) The interior was bright and clean, and the staff were very nice. We were sat right away by the window and perused their lengthy menu. I was going to have a Bun (vermicelli with different types of grilled meats) but I decided to go for their house Pho as this is my first time and wanted to see how they compare to the other Pho places. (Side note: there's more Pho places than other Asian inspired restaurants in the Lower Mainland). By the way, we got a free shrimp fresh roll for ordering a certain amount of food (Bonus!) My House Special Pho came right away. I was struck by the clearness of the broth and the amazing star anise (probably from the five spice) aroma. I immediately dunked the raw beef and added a fresh Thai basil leaf, slice of jalapeno and squeezed lime to the beautiful clear broth. My first large spoonful of broth didn't disappoint. It felt like a big hug under a giant umbrella on a rainy Sunday! The noodles were done just right; not too soft as I slurped it with that amazing broth. The beef ball also had that distinct five spice taste while the tripe (a.k.a. Pho car wash) gave the dish texture. Very average IMO. Our usual hangout Pho Phu Thinh a few blocks away beside Coquitlam Center was closed so we decided to try something new. This is where Yelp is so hit and miss, and in this case it was solid miss. Perhaps we have been spoiled by the quality, ambience, and service at Pho Phu Thinh, but the food was just okay (for some reason my broth and my husband's was pretty sour--he had the Bun Bo Hue, and I had the regular pho. Usually I cannot stop drinking the broth, but in this case I was happy not to drink it). The meat in mine was pretty abundant, but not in his, and we both had the small. The menu was nice and had a lot of pictures, and the prices are ok and slightly higher than Pho Phu Thinh, but not by much so price is not the issue here. We also ordered two salad rolls which were not too exciting either. I would say everything fell into the "average" category, and the service was just average too. We asked for the bill and they pointed us to the back as if we should have known better. Anyway, I don't get the rave reviews. Try Pho Phu Thinh if you are looking for Pho in the area and tell me that this place compares! read more

The price is average similar to other pho places but I always get large because the difference is only 75 cents or something. This place and Pho 99 takes the crown for best pho in the Tri Cities. Pho Huy is a recent discovery for me after seeing the line up of people. Using my rational train of thought, i immediately placed the puzzle pieces together. Lots of people=good food. Boy did that rational thinking pay off. This place has great pho, on par with Pho 99 but it's a bit cheaper. My only beef is that the food took longer to come out compared to Pho 99. I surprisingly found in the others reviews, that they have a good service. I have the absolutely opposite experience. When I came first time, their service looked like, that they mostly care about their business, not customers. This was so obvious. But anyway I decided to come one more time, because their restaurant is next to my office and I liked their soup. I am not so fluent in Vietnamese Menu, so I wanted to try something new. When I asked for a waiter to explain me what I was ordering. I kept my finger, pointing at the picture in the menu . She pushed my finger off the menu angrily !! Then she in-patiently started her unclear explanation quickly. "Don't ever do it with your customer" - said I, standing up and going to leave. Do you think she apologized. NO WAY! She aggressively shouted something to her owner through the restaurant. I guess blaming me. I did not understand, because they spoke their native language.
