Awful experience that resulted in us throwing away $70 worth of food. Note: do not eat here if you have even a slight intolerance to things. It's not worth the risk. We ordered the 2 of The Cold Remedy with extra veg, the Curry"veggie tofu" Pho, spring rolls, and Pho Xao Tofu. The Cold Remedy was ok. The hair we found in one of them was not worth it. And the extra veg (that cost $3.00) was a sad excuse. The spring rolls are huge but over priced. They were the best part. The Curry soup was ok at best but the spice overpowered the flavour. I have had tons of pho and this was by far the most bland. The Pho Xao was also a huge disappointment. It was smothered in fish sauce and congealed together. I tried to pawn it off on my friend (so not to waste) and she too didn't like it. By the way, I called to complain about the hair but they were not too concerned with it. I was told I could come back to have them remake it but it seriously is not worth it. read more

Slow service but delicious large portioned food. Waited about 15-20 mins for the food as we can see there was only 1 cook and 1 server. But we were pleasantly satisfied when the food arrived. Haven't had a chance to dine in here yet, but we have ordered take-out here twice and enjoyed the pho! The soups are so warm and comforting (we have had their house special pho and order chicken broth on the side). It's definitely not like the other Vietnamese restaurants we usually go to; they have a more health conscious menu which is pretty awesome. Prices are also higher than other pho places, but don't let that deter you. It's definitely a restaurant to visit. I also love the little touches the staff do with the takeout items. Last minute Door Dash order that satisfied my craving for a good comforting pho soup. Delivery took longer than expected by that was probably more the fault of DD than the restaurant. Now I can see the hype on probably the nicest Viet place in Surrey, and likely Vancouver as well! It's set up as a fusion place with its modern decor, communal table in the middle but trust that the owners are Vietnamese but speak fluent English; good service too, as they also ask how your meal is; try getting that at a Kingsway pho place lol. Ordered the salad roll, fresh, and crunchy which was unique: they put in a deep-fried wonton in the centre...and think there was even bits of tofu too. Peanut sauce? to me, just ok, a bit watery to what i'm used to, the thicker, peanut butter-like but nevertheless, still good. Ice coffee was good, though not like One Saigon roasted flavour ;) Actually can vouch the filter was bigger, so though you get more, it was more pricer $5.25 versus $3.75. Easy repeat. I've been eating a lot of pho lately. So when I recently discovered this restaurant had opened near my house I thought I'd give it a try. The pho is great. I found out later the broth has no MSG in it, which is probably good. The crispy spring roll was perfect, though only four bites. Honestly, this tasted as delicious as lots of other pho restaurants, but it wasn't the food that made an impression. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is how clean and nice everything is. I don't want to say its modern, because it has a Vietnamese authenticity to it, fueled by the giant photos covering one wall. The second thing you notice is the owner. Steven and his wife Lynn are realizing a life-long dream by owning and operating their own restaurant, and it shows by how much warmth and care they put into the food and service. I felt perfectly comfortable with his level of friendliness, not too much as to be intrusive. It actually felt like the kind of service you get at Disneyland where they love their job and workplace and they want to share that love with you. You order at the register and pay up front, Memphis Blues style. Every other pho place I have had to wait to pay after the meal, but not here. They only accept debit and cash. Don't forget to bring change if you want to hold your tip until after the meal. Ultimately you get the feeling that you're not in a restaurant, but rather you're in a friend's house where you can see into the kitchen what he's going to cook for your meal. Pros: Super friendly staff, amazing service, and stunning environment for a pho restaurant. Definitely looks high end. Even the washroom is super clean and freshly scented. Cons: But would I come back if I ever craved pho? Probably not. The price is a lot more than average compared regular pho places, while the portions are smaller. I usually like to order a salad roll with my pho but WOW. The half order (1 roll, 2 pieces) here is even more expensive than the full order (2 rolls, 4 pieces) in other places. I had to swallow my cravings back in because seriously I will not spend that money when I could get a full order for the same price. I give props to the owner for taking great care of the fine details, such as the restaurant's interior. (I am a sucker for beautiful interiors.) This lunch was en route south to the border crossing. We all stopped at Surrey and several of us dined here. We'd had Pho in various places near home but no one was disappointed in this shop. Service was prompt, and the dishes arrived quickly. The noodles and broth were both quite good! It is somewhat doubtful that we'll be in Surrey again soon, but if so we'll definitely return. If you find yourself heading south out of Vancouver around lunch or dinner time, consider a quick detour to Surrey! read more

Today was my first time trying Pho. I was always scared that I wouldn't like it, but today I was blown away. I tried the "cold remedy," a chicken broth with chicken meatballs and breast meat. My assumption was that the noodles would be super soft or would sorta dissolve, but these noodles had bite. The broth was sweet and savoury and spicy after i had added some chili oil. I wanted to keep eating but the portion was too big for me. The Lychee lime drink was seriously the best drink ive ever had. I went home and tried to recreate it, it was that good!! This place will now be my go-to pho place. Update: food is still delicious, tried the chicken bahn mi. Best bread ever. Id come back just for the bread. ONE DIET COKE $5, one tea, served in a huge french press with only 1 sad tea bag, $6?! Waited about 30 mins for any food to arrive. Overall frustrating and sad. One week later, I visited the place again and fortunately it's open. The place is very well decorated and looked fresh. It looked smaller than I imagined but that's fine. One thing, however, is that I don't know if it's because it's past lunch hour when I arrived but this place is kind of...dead; there were only 3 other customers here. Must be because of the location's remoteness. I ordered "The Works" Pho (medium sized) and the traditional Vietnamese drip-style coffee, on ice. Service was surprisingly fast; my coffee came and then a couple of minutes later my pho arrived. The iced coffee tasted just like what I had in other Vietnamese restaurants: mildly strong but creamy and rich sugary flavour. Only caveat is that it looked like they pre-made the coffee so the customer doesn't have to wait for the coffee to drip down the filter. I actually wanted to do that. Seriously, it's fun. For the pho, the broth was clear as water and that got me concerned a bit. However, looks are deceiving as the broth tasted fine. The beef balls were kind of chewy but otherwise passed my taste test. The tendon brisket and rare steak slices were all cooked to perfection. After I ate a portion, I then sriracha-bombed my pho afterwards and it still tasted great with that extra firepower. For the other condiments, the salt shaker on my table had the entire salt pile stuck and bunched together inside the vial and won't come out. Tried other ones from other tables and they were all the same, but no big deal, I lived without it and maybe prevented myself from getting high blood pressure. (noodle soup broths can sometimes have an unreasonably high amount of sodium) Overall, fine-tasting pho for a reasonable price. Staff were very friendly. I just wished the place was somewhere more closer to a town centre though, but I won't complain since the 375 bus runs daily. I also like to thank Food With Thought magazine for introducing me, in their 2015 issue, to this wonderful place. I'd probably had never even heard of Chopsticks On Pho without reading the magazine. read more

Came here randomly for a late lunch, so the dining room was quiet. The waitress was so sweet and adjusted all the blinds to keep us from getting too much sun on our faces, overall the service is friendly and welcoming. The pho was so delicious, very flavourful broth and both the noodles and meat tasted super fresh! The medium bowl of pho was very filling and would have been enough food on its own... we did share an order of vegetarian salad rolls ( which were also very tasty) but I ended up not being able to finish my meal. All in all a really enjoyable meal! And a place I definitely will come back to! read more

Food is actually pretty great .. customer service runs hot and cold depending who you get. The salad rolls are so good but then the dip is so watered down it ruins the whole thing if you dont care for peanut sauce then its an absolute winner. Also new rules like $10 min for pick up .. huh ?? why ?? pick up guest is the cheapest guest to service??? For a while calling through an order was almost impossible, not sure why the lunch crowd that picks up isnt valued. I've been here a few times and I think this must be the cleanest, nicest vietnamese restaurant I've ever been to. It's not your usual Vietnamese dive where you have to order the #3 special. You can see that the owners have paid attention to every little detail. They have retro-modern wall-hangings and an open kitchen and a communal table in the middle of the restaurant. I've eaten the beef pho, the salad rolls, and the sandwich here and all are a good portion size and delicious. Their food is MSG-free and cooked by the owners themselves. The menu is thoughtful and diverse and it seems like they add a small, modern twist to each dish. Even though I live in Burnaby I'll still make the drive back here for some good beef noodle soup. HIghly recommended for anyone that wants a complete dining experience!! read more

We ordered take away from this restaurant. We ordered beef pho and the chicken "cold remedy" pho. They were delicious. Great broth. They only have large orders for take away. When we've ordered take away pho in the past from other restaurants, they have had the beef separate from the broth. I was never quite sure if the broth was hot enough to cook the beef properly. With this restaurant, the beef was already in the broth. I really liked that. We also ordered the chicken salad rolls. Very good. The only criticism is that the peanut sauce was quite runny/watery. We'll definitely be ordering from here again, but I think we'll just use our own peanut sauce. read more

I travel a lot on business and pho is the comfort food that keeps me going on the road. It's quick, relatively healthy, expense account friendly, and I can get it to go if I have work piled up at the hotel. I've got my favorite pho shops staked out in every city...except here at home in the lower mainland! I'd given up trying to find a decent place south of the Fraser. When my wife said "I've got to take you to this new place I've found", my expectations were pretty low but I'm always game to try something new. I was more than pleasantly surprised. Chopsticks on Pho is definitely not your seedy Kingsway gang-banger hang-out serving oleaginous broth filled with parts of animals that have no business in my belly. If it weren't for the menu, you'd not instantly guess this was an Asian restaurant. It looks more like a hip urban bistro, and the other reviews here that mention "zen-like" are pretty much spot on - it's trendy but spare, with clean lines, open spaces and muted colours. Rather peaceful and spotlessly clean. The menu is also fairly spare but should be considered a work in progress. A couple of items have been added since we started coming here - like chicken pho. The management is definitely open to feedback on the menu. The pho itself is very solid - not as quite as savory as I would like but showing a lot of attention to detail. The vermicelli is never overcooked, the broth is never oily, the meat - whether beef or chicken - always has the fat trimmed off, and the sprouts and basil are fresh and plentiful. Is it more expensive than Kingsway? Yes, but it really isn't competing with other pho shops so much as it is with other modern bistros. I'm happily paying the extra dollar or two for the decor, food quality, service and CLEANLINESS. A final word about the staff: I've never met a friendlier owner! He personally greets you by name when you come in and thanks you when you leave. It's the perfect final touch to an enjoyable dining experience. read more

We go here often with the crew from work. They have amazing food complemented with unbelievable good service. The couple running the place make sure everything is literally 100%. I've tried the beef stew with coconut rice and the works Pho. Both times my order was perfectly prepared. Oh, and they make the broth every night so you won't get that MSG junk like everywhere else. What a great restaurant! I came here from a recommendation of a friend and I have to say I am truly grateful for it. I don't usually rave about vietnamese cuisine but as soon as I came here I was instantly impressed. From the salad rolls to the spicy beef pho it was all delicious. Don't even get me started on the vietnamese coffee....unreal. The owners Kevin and Lynn are very friendly and great have a great story behind the restaurant. The spend the time to remember your name in addition of making you feel very comfortable and welcome. I will most definitely be coming again and highly recommend this gem to anyone. Read the reviews, got hyped!, tried it, ... hype was unfortunately not met :( Our bill came to $60 for 3 people (3 phos, 3 spring rolls) - very far from the frugal meal that pho is meant to be! Waaaayy wayyyyy over-priced spring rolls. Their "half order" = 1 spring roll (halved) for $7 and a full order = 2 spring rolls (halved) for $12. $7 for a spring roll?! They're usually like $3 at other places. Who you trying to fool?! Well, us, I guess, cuz my dad must've had some mad cravings to still order them regardless of price. Their pho is also on the pricier side. Their medium (same size as a small at any other place) is $9.95 and large (their large is smaller than the average large at other places) is $10.75. My dad ordered "The Works" pho which included rare steak, brisket and beef balls. They forgot the beef balls (good thing he noticed) and they promptly brought them out to him on the side. The flavour of the broth is uncommonly sweet. I made the mistake of doing my usual "pho prep" by adding all the essentials plus hoisin sauce. It wasn't until after I added the hoisin sauce that I realized the broth was already sweet and adding the hoisin sent it over the edge to no return. Great location, service and very modern and clean environment. But the lack of value and lack-luster broth will have me skipping this place next time. read more

This is one of the nicest Pho places I have been to. The restaurant is brightly lit, the inside clean and you can see into the kitchen behind the cash counter. The owner was very nice and considerate and brought out a pair of scissors for me to cut my son's noodles. I loved reading their story on the wall which made the owner and his wife more personable and relatable. Now onto the food. The broth was clear and mild tasting. The noodles cooked just right. The salad rolls had picked veggies inside which I really liked. It also had a piece of rolled up crispy wonton. It added nice texture to the salad roll. The peanut sauce was more watery than I am used to. I've liked a chunkier, thicker sauce but their peanut sauce sufficed. The prices are little more than other pho places in Surrey by couple dollars. But the pho was satisfying and the atmosphere was welcoming which are the reasons I will come back. read more

Over priced, under delivered! Service was great, but that doesn't make up for the food. Medium Pho (Works) $9.75, Large Pho (Works) $10.50, Spring Roll $7.50... holly rip off! The menu says "Works everything in the kitchen" and all I got in my med size was half a Beef Ball quartered and 2 small slices of raw beef and 2 small slices of beef flank and lots of over cooked noodle. Most House Specials will also include tripe, tendon and larger portions of meat ingredients. The soup base was lacking in flavour as well. The decor of the place was very nice and presentation of the food was great. I don't know what everyone is talking about in all the other reviews, but they must have been friends of the restaurant or they just don't know Pho. Super friendly owners/servers with just right attention level...awesome. We met here for a business lunch and tried the sampler platter to start. A nice mix of satay, salad, salad rolls. Geared for two or three as a starter. Fresh and tasty - like everything. The prices - which some have complained about - are in the high end...at least for what you might expect for Pho. But so was this place. Are you really complaining about a buck or two? From the very tasty and not-at-all greasy - Pho broth in my, "The Works" Pho, to the fried-just-right Spring Roll, I am hooked. $10.99 for a nicely loaded, Medium meaty Pho and Spring Roll Combo. If that is too pricey you need to put away that nugget 10 pack and get your ass in here to try some real food! +licensed. Sidenote: It is a cellular signal dead zone here - Telus at least.
