I have been dining at Pho 99 for at least 8 years now. My favorite dishes are: - Bun Rieu (crab noodle soup) - Bun Dac Biet (vermicelli bowl with shrimps, grilled charcoal pork, and egg rolls). The grilled pork is TO DIE FOR! Really good banh Canh, it has the texture of egg noodle soup and had real crab meat inside. Also the water has lychee in it which makes it very refreshing although it is probably sweetened by the syrup. The bun Bo hue was also very authentic, it wasn't very spicy though and the meat was too chewy but it still tastes good. An unimpressive, overpriced, unfriendly service, offered no receipt and offered no breakdown of how much the food cost. The menu prices are different from the prices that they charge you without any explanation. The staff did not talk to us. We ordered a small soup and was charged for a large soup twice. Dingy atmosphere, no uniform. The gentlemen cashier was wearing a Dewalt hat which is unprofessional. Not enough soup base for the amount of product they give you. Pretty bad parking situation. Not very clean inside, I saw nobody wiping down tables. Probably the most undesirable thing was being overcharged and they look at you funny if you try to express your desire to know how and why you got charged for a particular item. We have eaten here occasionally over the past 10 years. The pho is decent; we've had better elsewhere, but it's close to home. I happened to be reading the reviews when we were looking at the menu on Yelp several days ago, and saw the alerts from other customers regarding the overcharging. We called in our order for two large chicken pho soups; My teenager went to pick it up, and I warned him about the overcharging alerts from other reviewers. I gave him the approximate price that it should cost with tax included and then told him how much to tip on top of that. Sure enough, he was overcharged four dollars. Not a lot of money but still, dishonesty is a red flag for me. My son asked him to re-ring it because he was overcharged so the man merely knocked off two dollars the 2nd time he rang it up. He was still dishonest, but my son wasn't going to haggle about two dollars. We just won't go back. If a restaurant owner is dishonest at the register, what dishonesty may be happening in the kitchen? That's a scary thought. I will have to say the Pho is good. We came here on a Friday for dinner and was seated immediately. The inside was small but I could tell they were busy. We ordered two small bowl of pho and on the menu it stated the bowls were 11.50 each. When it came time to paying, the owner confirmed with me that each bowl were 11.50 and being myself being Vietnamese he stated this in Vietnamese. Low and behold when the bill came out it was 28 dollars. Quick math and that doesnt add up with tax. Came back here with my family during a trip to Seattle. Boys!!! This place never disappointed me. Pho is still delicious, so was eggrolls. We also tried the Vietnamese Crepe (bánh xèo). OMG! It's sooo good. The crepe was creamy from coconut milk and deliciously crisp. It was so good that my family had to return to eat one more time before we headed to San Francisco. Lol. The ambiance isn't anything extraordinary but they do really good soup! I ordered the shrimp pho which had a nice rich broth and the shrimp came completely deveined and peeled, the broccoli in the pho was a nice touch too! It bolstered my expectations for what the actual food would be like! When it came out, I did a double take. The Banh Xeo was ENORMOUS. Stuffed with pork, huge shrimp, and bean sprouts, the crepe was packed to deliver a yummy punch to the stomach. When wrapped up in lettuce, basil, mint then dipped in fish sauce - wow. If you are black or white, do not come here. You will not be served for over an hour. I've seen other races come in far after my girlfriend and I, and they will be checked on and served way before us. We have once had to wait over an hour to be served, and if you're black it's even worse. We would be served in an hour, meanwhile a POC will be served by the time we're done eating. I came here and got the Mongolian Beef. It has tasty marinated beef, scallions and onions, sliced tomatoes and cucumbers over a bed of white rice. It was delicious! The lychee water is what makes this place stand out from all the other pho restaurants. I admit I was little apprehensive at first, but it is definitely delicious. I think all pho restaurants should incorporate this idea. I had no idea lychee was so tasty. Not sure you really need this and tea and pho as I leave feeling really water logged, but it is totally a tasty and filling experience. People I have taken who normally would not enjoy Vietnamese find this place appealing. I think this may be because the menu is so expansive and includes things like teriyaki. The vegetarian section is large too, but I never have figured out what exactly they mean by vegetarian chicken. The veggie rolls are huge and likely meant to be shared.
