Only came here looking for a new coffee spot to try of my dayoff. Loved the ambiance of the place and it had a pretty nice vibe. I decided to try the iced mocha to play safe and I would say it was good! The brown sugar milk tea was also delicious! I would recommend getting 1/2 ice to maximize your drink! Checked the menu out and there's a lot of interesting things to try! I will definitely try them soon! Lastly, I'm happy that I get to see chefs cooking on the line! That's a definite plus! This place has one of the best pho I have ever had. The banh mi is perfectly toasted, soft inside and crunchy on the outside. This is one of a few restaurants I would suggest or bring anyone to for first timers of Vietnamese cuisine. The service is exceptional, we were seated very quickly and the staff is very friendly. As for ambience, the restaurant is very well maintained and home feel, the name of the cafe speaks true to how I would dine here. My only champion against this restaurant is how loud the music can be, albeit being loud refers to how lively/homey music is, which didn't bother us but it is something to note. But besides that, it didn't change how we feel of giving this restaurant a 5 star! read more

I've been eyeing this restaurant for a while since it opened, and I finally got to try it! I had the house special pho and a drink. The pho was authentic, the rice noodles were soft with a nice chewiness. There was lots of meat in the pho. The sliced beef was tender, and the beef tendon was perfectly cooked, not too chewy and not too slimy. The broth was authentic too and with freshly squeezed lime juice. To sum up, it was a light yet hearty meal. The drink was great too. You could taste both green grape and jasmine tea, it was a very refreshing combination for the summer. Got two banh mi and order of spring rolls from this spot. Solid bread but the rest wasn't as great. VERY mayo heavy. When you open the sandwich, there is ZERO tofu visible and you have to dig thru the veg and mayo to find the tiniest amount of tofu (prob two fried tofu cut into tiny strips). This is probably the saddest tofu banhmi I've seen. It's extremely odd because the grilled pork banh mi had a good amount of pork in it... however cautioning that there is pate in the pork banh mi which is not clear on their menu. If you don't like pate, you might be caught off guard. Spring roll was decent. Not too much to say there. This place is a complete dumpster fire. We ordered 2 banh mi's and a drink each around 11 am as an in store to go, thinking it would be quick because hey, a Vietnamese cafe is suppose to be quick to go. Nope, took 25 minutes until I got fed up and asked. They didn't even start our drinks yet. If you're going to be slow, at least give us our coffee/ boba. It's also important to mention that the cafe was mostly empty so why the sloth service? It seems like they forgot about our order even though we were sitting there waiting. In terms of food, it's $10 a banh mi, but it's extremely small, like majority of it could fit in the palm of my hands. Sadly, it was pretty disgusting. Very little veggies, and a sickening amount of mayo to coverup the cheap cut of meat. I actually only ate half and threw the other half away. While I did finish the boba, it was also a meh. TLDR: Filling portions for a good price. Drive-thru only does drinks and bahn mi but there's a larger menu for dine in. First time going through the drive through and re staff was very kind and patient. It was great to have that option on a rainy day. It wasn't busy on a rainy Thursday afternoon. It's a small place inside but has its own parking lot which is convenient for Aurora. Couldn't check out the ambiance since I didn't go inside. How I heard of this place: We used to love Black Coffee NW in this location and frequented it regularly. When too much vandalism and discrimination pushed them out of their cafe, we were eager to see what would come in it's place. Date Cafe opened up and we had wanted to try it for at least a few weeks before we were finally able to make our way there. Type of cuisine: "Authentic Vietnamese" is the way its described online, but we felt it left something to be desired as far as the plethora Vietnamese options available to us in the greater Seattle area. The flavors seem mild and tamed to fit the local population, rather than offering the true, authentic, robust flavors one might find in a home-cooked or other restaurant meal. Though the menu is extensive and I'm certain one could find more authenticity among dishes that we have yet to try. Ambiance: Beautiful and welcoming, the space is large and clean, ready to serve the masses. The creative entry with "walls" separating the dining space from the entryway is a treat for the eyes, as well as the dark tones used in the space. We loved the choice of chairs and tables, giving a mid-century vibe to the space. Windows on two sides give ample natural light amid the stripes of fluorescent light from above. Tables are set up with enough distance between to give privacy to each dining party and the space is big enough, likely, to host larger gatherings and events. What I ordered: My daughter and I were there for lunch and selected a couple of items to share. First, the Crispy egg rolls stuffed with taro, tofu, carrots, and mushrooms, served with a special chili dipping sauce. "Perfectly crunchy and full of flavor!" Followed by a Pad Thai - Stir-fried rice noodles with shrimp, egg, tofu, bean sprouts, and green onions in tamarind sauce. Topped with peanuts and lime. I also wished to try one of their Vietnamese coffees, and chose the Bac Xiu - A light, creamy Vietnamese coffee with less caffeine, smooth like a latte. What I loved: We especially loved the Egg Rolls, likely among the best we have had at any restaurant. The pad Thai tasted a bit fake, and I'm sure we could have chosen something more authentic off of the menu, but this was the quickest option in the moment. Why I loved it: The server was quick to address any issued we had (mold in the crunchy chili bowl), and the food was delivered in a timely manner. I had been driving past for about a year wondering what would take place at the former location of One Cup followed by Black Coffee Northwest. The Homie and I finally had the opportunity to visit Date Cafe on 8/3/25, 8/11/25, and 8/14/25. I was amazed at the transformation of the interior and especially the open kitchen area. The coffee & bubble tea preparation area with drive through capacity was nicely laid out. We experienced welcoming and unobtrusive service during the soft opening and after the official grand opening. Overall we tried the fish sauce wings, grilled pork banh mi, steak & brisket pho, shaking beef, beef egg noodles, and milk teas. Tasty, quality execution. Glad to see another family run establishment open for business in Shoreline. It is readily accessible via Metro Rapid Ride E or via car since they have a private parking lot. Date Cafe is a welcome addition to Shoreline! On our first visit, hubby and I were definitely intrigued by the menu given the various plates that were on display from an earlier photo shoot, which helped us decide what to order. We opted for the grilled pork banh mi and the special pork chop rice with grilled shrimp, which is one of the 3 special rice dishes they have on their menu. I love how the meats glisten and are so flavorful. I look forward to trying the other 2, especially the crispy chicken. A few days later, I went back to try the beef pho, fish sauce wings and salted egg iced coffee. All good, no complaints here. I'm happy there's a place closer to home for me to get Vietnamese iced coffee and fish sauce wings! I will be returning to work through their menu. Order is placed via QR code at the table. I'm pleasantly surprised by the food and drink menu and will likely be frequenting this spot a lot because it's so close to home! Loved the shaking beef garlic noodles - the beef was so juicy and tender and noodles were flavorful. Also enjoyed the grilled pork vermicelli. The banh mi were ok, not used to the different sauces they put in there. I did like the cold cut over the pork one. Im rounding up as it is soft opening so things happen. We got the beef and egg sizzling plate, didn't quite match description - seemed to have been missing meatball and sausage but the taste was great! Bread was amazing, crusty but soft in the inside. We also got a shaking beef with egg noodle. The beef was rare, which I wasn't expecting, but they did a refire and it was more medium. Again flavor was great! Slightly rounded up because I visited during soft opening, where challenges are expected but I'm very hopeful for their success. Soft opening August 01 to August 07 doors open at 11am until sell out. They were still open at 8:30pm the day I visited. Also 30% off during this time. Passed by the DateCafe sign a while back and was super curious what it'd be like. Nothing like my expectations (in a good way) because it's a whole Vietnamese restaurant and includes a drive thru! Tablet available to order to go, or QR codes present at each table to check the menu. Note online ordering doesn't work right now as they're sorting through technical difficulties. Browse the menu and a staff member will come take orders. Large drink menu, and honestly the drinks were great (the liquid part, more on boba below). Tried to order again at the end and turns out they were out of tea which bummed us out. Spacious parking lot with an entrance through Highway 99 or a back entrance, so no worries even if you turn too early. Lots of seating inside, super spacious spot. Two restrooms available and were very clean. Fish Sauce Chicken Wings - about three large wings (splittable into about six wings). Chicken was fine, not super juicy but not super dry. Fish sauce was tasty, just makes the wings sticky though, so slightly different than many other chicken wings. Would be a maybe order again, likely for sharing. Jasmine Green Milk Tea w/ Boba - boba was clumpy and overall not fresh, but it was late. Likely better earlier in the day. Still chewy and sweet though, so marinated well enough to maintain flavor. I'd be keen to order again just knowing they won't be perfect pearls. At 30% sugar, the tea was present and it wasn't too milky. Solid balance of tea to milk. Honestly all the drinks we ordered were great, would confidently order any of the drink menu. Osmanthus Coconut Oolong Tea w/ Jasmine Tea Jelly - maybe the best drink here, but will need to try all the other options. Extremely hydrating, refreshing, and flavorful. I'd recommend starting at 50% sugar and then tone it down in a future visit if needed. More spots need to do a coconut tea, this was a hit! Grilled Pork Sandwich - a typical banh mi but props for the bread! Toasted well, perfectly crispy, and not overly soft. This spot does add chili sauce to the banh mi which is unconventional and packs a small punch. Sauce was a bit too wet though, as it started dripping and getting messy. At the price point, it's pretty filling and comparable to many banh mi. read more

Appreciated the friendly service as soon as I step through the door. I was immediately greeted. This place has lots of dining options. They have a full size menu for if you want to dine in, a to-go counter to order from, AND a drive-through with a smaller Menu for quick items and drinks. Inside has tons of tables and seating. Larger groups could easily be accommodated. All the tables looked very clean and ready for dining in. There is also an outdoor seating area, which will be really nice during the summertime. We ordered egg banh mi, chicken banh mi, sour soup, and pad Thai chicken. Over all the food was very mid. Chicken banh mi lacked flavor. The chicken itself was bland even though it was covered in sauce. The sauce had flavor, chicken did not. Sour soup was overly sweet, almost like pho that was trying to be sour soup. And the broth lacked depth. Sour soup is amazing when made correctly, hoping this can improve. Pad Thai was ok but it used the same chicken from the banh me that had no flavor of its own, very bland. And the cut of the meat was random pieces, like it came from drumsticks. Egg banh mi was the only good item. Egg was cooked a perfect medium and very enjoyable. We will give this place a few months before trying it again. It's still very new, just having opened in August. Hoping they can improve their flavors and choice of meat for chicken. We were so excited to go try the new spot in Shoreline as we are pho fans. There was a BOGO deal for beef pho soup and we went in on a Thursday evening to try. Wow, was it flavorful and good. I did give my husband all the beef because my dietary restrictions but the broth was phenomenal and traditional flavors. It was accompanied by a nice side of fresh herbs to top. The strawberry matcha boba was so good and refreshing. The spring rolls with peanut sauce was fresh and stuffed. The service was so sweet. The decor and ambiance inside is new and modern. There is ample parking on both ends of the restart. The only downfall is the chop sticks are very slippery and there should be a seafood pho option to complete the menu. read more

Was excited to see a new Vietnamese restaurant that had Bun Bo Hue. Started with the fish sauce chicken wings which were more sweet than fishy, cuts in the meat provided more surface area for the lightly crunchy dredge. Hubby ordered the House Special which he liked the beefy broth (light aromatics). My BBH had light lemongrass notes and could have more fish sauce for my palate. It was still good, especially with the meats/ham. The banana blossoms (few spots that have BBH provide blossoms) and diced herbs went very well with the broth. Not sure if they just gave me veggie broth instead of chicken broth but it had no flavor. The thai tea was also mid. TBH I waited a long time to try this place due to the inconsistent ratings. I'm a picky Vietnamese food eater, and usually prefer to travel to the international district for decent Vietnamese food. I finally took the chance to try it out since it's so close to where we live and I'm glad I did. The ordering process runs mainly off of a menu accessed via a QR code through your phone, or a large ordering kiosk at the front of the store, or you can request tablets for your table from where you can place your order (same as most hot pot restaurants). The staff was busy and friendly. We came in at 7 PM on a Thursday night. Our order: Spring rolls: good, a bit small but solid. Fish sauce wings: really good - there were lots of pickled veggies and thin slices of garlic (!) that came on the side which offset the funkiness of the wings. Meatball and beef pho with free rib (certain days of the week) and fresh noodles: the rib was comically large, a great addition to the noodles. The fresh noodles were a bit too soft and they were wide like pad Thai noodles - I would stick with the regular noodles next time. The broth was good but not spectacular. Pork bun (rice noodle salad): the photo of this dish on the menu only had pork so it was very pleasantly surprising when it arrived at the table with a spring roll and two shrimp. There was a generous amount of vegetables and dressing with thin slices of garlic. They use fresh noodles, which makes a huge difference in the texture of the dish. The pork was sliced thinly and tasted really good seasoning wise however I would say a fifth of it was fatty pieces which could've been removed before they grilled it if that was improved I would say that this was a 10 out of 10. Beef in cast iron skillet with baguette: excellent dish with wonderful flavors. I don't know what they did, but there was a slightly smoky and savory flavor to the sauce. Another excellent dish I would re-order. Almost every dish had a few sliced garlic in the sauce or in the vegetables, which was a very nice touch for those of us that love garlic. The timing of the food coming out could be better executed as my noodle salad was brought out to me at least 5 to 8 minutes earlier than the other hot food. I definitely would return and I recommend their non soup food in particular - the pho is good but their non soup food is really good and not easy to find in the area. They have such a varied menu aside from pho and I think that is where their strong point is - all of their rice, noodle, everything that is not soup. Been here many times and it is my favorite pho north of Seattle! Highly recommend the special pho, which you can add a big beef rib to for no cost. Second visit, the food is fresh, tasty and I think reminds me of my besties Aunties food. My husband said more traditional than some of the neighborhood stores. I ordered the shrimp and short ribs with fine vermicelli, omg- if you like fish sauce, fresh veggies, short ribs and big prawns with peanuts, try this, I was not disappointed! It even included mint and I'm guessing lemon balm leaves(i could be wrong) but I loved it all. Mango smoothie with popping boba and no added sugar is good too! My partner and I enjoyed a really nice dinner at the Date Cafe last night and would highly recommend it. We both ordered a mini tofu sandwich, which was really delicious. I also ordered the chicken pho and was pleasantly surprised when it came with some veggies (broccoli and carrot) in the broth. The usual bean sprouts and basil were available to add, but they had a tasty fish paste on the dish as well. My partner ordered a beef noodle dish that she really liked. The beef was super tender. They had a nice selection sandwiches, pho, and noodle dishes. You can also get a good bubble tea. We will definitely be back. This is my favorite photo spot up in north Seattle! The pho has been consistently good the last few times I have checked it out. It has a clean, deep beef flavor. I almost finished the entire bowl of broth! One of my favorite items at the restaurant is the fried chicken wings. I order this every time. It is juicy, tender, crispy and has good flavor. The vermicelli bowl was also good. Meat is cooked very well and flavorful at this restaurant. The service has been good and the staff are kind. I went to the soft opening over the weekend. I was seated promptly and scanned the menu. I ordered pho and the osmanthus coconut green tea with jelly with 30% sugar. Service was a little slow for the few tables that were occupied. It took about 30 minutes to get my meal and beverage. I was expecting a soup spoon for my pho instead of a long spoon like the ones at Korean restaurants. The pho was OK, I think it was missing the star anise flavor that pho usually has.
