Somewhere between the kitchen and the table they experience a full existential crisis and dissolve into a noodle-flavored fog. You don't eat this pho so much as you drink it with regret. Then there's the robot. I want to be clear: the robot is trying its best. But a robot is not a coworker, it's a Roomba with delusions of grandeur, and pairing it with exactly one (1) visibly overwhelmed human does not equal "efficient staffing," it equals "understaffed with extra steps." I've seen this establishment's entire org chart and it's one guy and a trash can with wheels. The Vietnamese coffee and salted cold foam, though? Genuinely incredible. Immaculate. The only reason my card has ever been charged here more than once. I racked up a small fortune in reward points on the strength of that coffee alone -- and then went to redeem them, only to discover the website has apparently also fallen into a noodle-textured crisis and is completely down. So now I have points sitting there like Monopoly money for a bank that closed. Great coffee. Great foam. Genuinely inspired idea for a business. Just... catastrophically executed, like someone had a beautiful vision of a pho franchise and then handed the keys to a single tired employee and his robot intern. America needs a real pho franchise. This is not it.

Our family of four has been a loyal customer of Pho 88 for over a year, but our recent experience was so disappointing that I can no longer recommend this place. We decided to visit for dinner, hoping for the same enjoyable experience we used to have. Still, instead, we were met with a frustrating and lackadaisical service that ultimately cost them our patronage. It took over 20 minutes to get our drinks, which was the first sign that the evening would not go well. We ordered four dishes, and after nearly 30 minutes, we only received three. Even after two separate reminders to our waiter, we were met with indifference. When the third reminder was made, the waiter casually approached our table with the check in hand, almost as if to brush off our concerns. Only then did he realize the kung pao dish we ordered had never arrived. Instead of apologizing or suggesting a solution, he merely shrugged and said, "Yeah, been trying to catch up." This lack of accountability and care was shocking. There was no effort to rectify the situation or even offer a simple apology for the mishap. As a result, my wife was left without dinner. For anyone married, that's a recipe for a rough evening. read more

After reading a review by a "pho connoisseur" I knew I had to try this place and see what the hype was about. Unfortunately, it was all hype - no game. The pho was mediocre and the pork rolls were mainly noodles with tiny strips of pork. There should be pork in every bite of the roll, not sparse tiny pieces, big chunks. There isn't a small/large option for the pho anymore and the price went way up. It's now $14.95 for a big bowl of pho. I was looking forward to the old sub-$10 small bowl because who really needs 2 cups of noodles and a few strips of meat in their 6 cup bowl of pho for twice the price? Overall not impressed. I'll be back for a second review because I always give a place a few tries before deciding to write it off completely. Having been to *every* pho joint in San Diego county and most of the ones in Bakersfield, this place is towards the bottom of the list. read more
