Let me start off with--I've been here multiple times and I love the food here! I've only ever had rice plates, and my daughter usually gets the pho. Today I ordered chicken pho, and as we were eating I saw something black floating in the broth. I grabbed it out and quickly realized it was a bug. Now I know mistakes happen but bugs are really gross to be in the broth because all I could think was did my daughter eat any and not know. I told the younger guy in glasses, that I found this and he quickly without even really looking told me it was burnt sugar. And I know it wasn't not that. I got up quickly to pay and didn't make a confrontation because they were busy and I felt bad. I did send a message through instagram but hoping I for someone to reach out so I can be refunded because I'm grossed out. I have pictures of our pho as well to prove we were there. The guy working the register is super nice and I should've said something there I just didn't want to make a big deal, again because they were busy. Thank you,

Javi L.

Second Time here and man let me say this. If you're craving pho that doesn't skimp on the good stuff, Pho 85 is worth the stop! Combo #1 is where it's at--packed with meat, loaded with flavor, and served up in a satisfying bowl that hits the spot. You definitely get your money's worth with this one! No surprise this place gets so packed! It's a popular spot for a comforting bowl of Vietnamese goodness. They also have a variety of drink options to pair with your meal and banh mi for anyone craving a delicious Vietnamese sandwich. Come hungry, order Combo #1, and get ready to slurp!

Get a punch card if you live nearby or able to drive here for their pho! I live in South San Jose, but this is the southern-est of San Jose before Morgan Hill. My cousin's wife selected this place to eat lunch at because a) it's near her home and b) I've never been here. It was her birthday yet she was still thinking of me. We were seated right away. Our server was fast and attentive. Their Combo 1 is a dac biet with meatballs and oxtail. The broth was clean and flavorful. It sort of bothered me that their cold vermicelli bowls are called salad bowls - they are not in my opinion but what do I know. It's pricey but the prices are aligned with the other pho restaurants due to rising costs. I remember when a bowl of pho was $7.95. I wish I can turn back time. Anyhow. Our lunch time rendezvous was delicious. I cannot wait to return.

A Noodle Oasis Worth Every Stamp! My husband and I dropped into Pho 85 for lunch for the first time this past week, and we were blown away by the quality. Everything tasted amazingly fresh--especially the custom fresh noodles option on the menu, which made a huge difference. The menu is stacked with choices, spanning Vietnamese coffees, classic pho, banh mi, vermicelli bowls, rice dishes, and crisp salads. I went with the rare sliced steak pho, and the quality was top-tier; you could tell the beef was completely fresh, never frozen. The portions here are massive--I gave it my absolute best effort and still tapped out around three-quarters of the way through! Beyond the food, the space is beautifully decorated and strikes that perfect balance of being lively without feeling packed or overlooked. Despite a busy lunch crowd, our server was remarkably friendly, attentive, and quick. On top of that, their perks program is fantastic: a straightforward stamp card (1 stamp per $20 spent, hit 10 for a free item) plus a sweet 10% discount for Kaiser employees. Pho 85 easily earned a spot in our regular dining rotation. We'll definitely be back!

Grilled pork and egg roll vermicelli

Good pho and solid vermicelli bowls. Service is quick and parking is easy. We had filet mignon pho - dark broth, heavy clove scent and flavor, lean delicious beef. Good portion of rice noodles. The clove flavor was a little heavy but we got used to it. The broth excelled after adding some heat from the jalapeños and sriracha, along with some hoisin. The vermicelli bowl was a large portion and had all the typical fixings except mint, which I missed. The egg rolls were crisp and savory. The pork was a little smoky flavored but not as good as other places. It seems like the pork was breaded and/or deep fried. The nuoc cham (fish sauce) is a little too sweet and needs a bit more lime juice. The Thai iced tea is excellent. You can get it with or without boba. Strong on tea flavor... great if you like that. Single, all-gender bathroom.

I got number 14 and it was so good. The broth was light and meat was soft. Highly recommend!

We were all pretty hungry and decided to stop by Pho 85 and highly Yelp recommended. It turned out to be exactly what we needed! We ordered the #1 Combination Pho with oxtail, and wow--it was absolutely delicious. The broth was rich, flavorful, and clearly simmered for hours, with deep beef flavor and fragrant spices. The oxtail was incredibly tender, and every bite was comforting and satisfying. We also ordered the avocado smoothie, and it was fantastic--creamy, fresh, and the perfect complement to the hot bowl of pho. The service was excellent from start to finish. Everyone was welcoming and attentive, and the restaurant has a modern, hip atmosphere that makes it a great place to relax and enjoy a meal. Pho is one of Vietnam's most iconic dishes, traditionally made with a long-simmered broth, rice noodles, fresh herbs, and quality cuts of beef. Restaurants like Pho 85 continue that tradition by serving authentic Vietnamese comfort food in a warm, inviting setting. If you're looking for outstanding pho with a rich, flavorful broth, tender meats, excellent service, and a great atmosphere, I highly recommend Pho 85. We'll definitely be back. Cheers!

I visited Pho 85 on August 7, 2026, and had a fantastic experience. I ordered the vegetable pho with fresh noodles, and it was absolutely delicious. The broth was incredibly flavorful, the noodles had the perfect consistency, and the tofu was perfectly crispy. Everything came together for a comforting and satisfying meal. I honestly have no criticisms--everything about my visit was spot on. The service was quick and friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed, making it a great place to enjoy a warm bowl of pho. I highly recommend Pho 85 if you're looking for top-notch pho with fresh ingredients.

New modern Vietnamese restaurant that opened a few months ago but their service and operations is horrendous. Came right at the beginning of a lunch rush and they only had 2 people working the outside. Store was starting to fill with orders and requests being forgotten or wrong. A group of people came in and cleaned their own table. Also no official waitlist as a customer that came earlier lost their seat to someone who just came in because he was waiting outside. The food was solid. I got the pho special #1 and the broth was clear and had a nice beef broth flavor. The fresh noodles were also good. The bun thit nuong had charred pork but it was dry and on the sweeter side. Veggies were fresh. They did get the order wrong and forgot the egg roll. Had to remind them and a hot egg roll came out later. Spring roll was decent sauce can be better. Service definitely needs to be improved. Waited long for food and drinks. Female server was sweet but they don't seem to be trained or have experience. She had trouble using the handheld machine while taking our order. Reviews here seem to be inflated due to them offering a free Thai tea for leaving Yelp review.

Clean environment!

Visited Pho 85 once again on a Saturday afternoon. They still have quality food, service, and clean and relaxing environment. The Combo 1 Pho is $21.95, Short Rib Pho and Filet Mignon and Rare Steak is $19, while others with certain selections of meat are $17.75. If you're on a budget, the $17.75 phos are filling enough. Thanks to Linh and Sang for the great service. They promptly took our order, brought and refilled drinks, and were around whenever we needed anything like straws or napkins. The restaurant is consistently busy, which goes to show you that I'm not the only one who enjoys their food, service, and environment!

If I could give this place five extra stars, I absolutely would. We arrived around 2:00 PM for a late lunch, and the restaurant was packed. Despite how busy it was, the young waitress and young waiter did an incredible job running the show. They greeted us right away, took our order immediately and our food arrived surprisingly fast. While we were there, a difficult situation unfolded with another customer. He insisted on taking an entire table for four by himself. When the waitress politely suggested that he use a table for two instead, he became very aggressive. She handled the situation with remarkable professionalism, stayed calm, spoke respectfully and never let it turn into a scene. The young waiter was right there supporting her and together they handled the situation calmly and professionally. Watching them made me realize how challenging it can be to work in customer service. Not every customer is easy, but they both handled a stressful situation with grace, skill and professionalism. Extra stars to both of them for the outstanding service. They were an incredible team.

My family and I just found our new favorite Pho spot. The Pho soup was incredible and the Vermicelli bowls were so fresh and tasty. We certainly all walked out feeling very full and satisfied! The staff were attentive and patient. Thank you all!

This establishment is more of a takeout place with its items made to order. The wait can be a bit long so it is best to order ahead online; the quoted pick up time was 25 minutes from the time the order was placed. For this visit I got their (net) eggroll plate and banh khot plate. The netted eggrolls had a good crispy wrapper texture and definitely tasted freshly made; the net outside made it more unique compared to typical Vietnamese and other Asian eggrolls which use a regular solid wrapper. The sweet fish sauce and veggies (pickled carrot and daikon, lettuce, cilantro, and mint) went really well with these eggrolls. The banh khot tasted good with a nice and soft yet slightly crunchy texture and each piece had a good sized shrimp on top. The banh khot also went well with the fish sauce and veggies provided. I highly recommend SJ Eggrolls for Vietnamese eggrolls and banh khot cravings. I know there are many other establishments selling these in San Jose but this place does a good job in terms of execution and price. This business also offers party trays and I would definitely consider catering from SJ Eggrolls if I needed a party tray in the area.

Usually the noodles are hu tieu (pho noodles) but I opted for egg noodles (mi). Variety of meats and seafood included. Mix with chili oil and soy sauce (it is a bit underseasoned) or ask for more of the sauce they use. Otherwise this was quite bomb when all mixed up. Very filling! 8/10 Bun Cha Ha Noi $28 - portion is perfect for 2 people! They give rice paper for wrapping and meats were perfectly cooked juicy and well marinated. I came for lunch on a Friday and the restaurant was approximately half full. My party was seated right away. I noticed most tables had their specialty dish, 36B on the menu, which is grilled fish with thin noodles and vegetables; this was a dish my party wanted to try. I also ordered their Vietnamese shaking beef with red rice (menu item 47). The food came quickly, in about ten minutes or so. The shaking beef came first and had a nice flavor and texture as expected for shaking beef. The dish had a bit more onions and peppers than I would've liked but still had a good amount of beef. This also came with a side soup which was nice to not overwhelm the palate with shaking beef flavor. The grilled fish was tasty with a nice crisp. The fish also tasted very good with the included noodles and greens. I could see why this is Thien Long's most popular dish because it is very good. Overall, the Thien Long menu is pretty extensive and has a lot of offerings in case you don't know what you want to eat. That being said, this restaurant does not really specialize in any particular type of Vietnamese dish so you may be better off going to Vietnam Town if you know you want a specific dish.

We've been coming here…read morefor years, and whenever we're craving Vietnamese food other than pho, this is one of our go-to places. It's local, the food has always been good to excellent, and there are some fond memories that keep bringing us back. We came here again on a Sunday evening around 8:15pm, just before closing. Here's my updated review. Food (4 stars) * Shaking Beef (4.5 stars) - This is our kids' usual order, and they love it! The beef was cooked perfectly medium rare with a nice char on the outside while remaining tender and juicy inside. The marinade has a subtle sweetness that really complements the beef. It comes with mushrooms, bell peppers, and onions. You can choose white rice or tomato rice, but my kids prefer white rice. The portion is generous enough for both kids to share, and there's even enough rice left for me! * Half & Half Turmeric Fish and Grilled Pork (4 stars) - This is one of our longtime favorites. You get the best of both worlds with their signature turmeric fish and flavorful grilled pork. The fish is consistently good, served over a bed of onions and fresh green herbs. The pork is thinly sliced and can be a little dry from cooking, but it's well seasoned and flavorful. Once you wrap everything together with the vermicelli, herbs, and vegetables in rice paper, the dryness becomes almost unnoticeable. They give you plenty of rice paper and vermicelli noodles, so you won't leave hungry. I just wish they were a little more generous with the fresh vegetables on the side. That's more of a personal preference than a complaint. * Fried Flour Cake with Egg (3.5 stars) - We ordered this as our appetizer. It's good, but not the best version I've had. The flour cake is surrounded by quite a bit of egg, making it feel more like a flour cake omelet than the traditional dish I'm used to. The accompanying dipping sauce has a nice sweet and tangy flavor that brings everything together. It's enjoyable, just not particularly memorable compared to some of the better versions I've tried elsewhere. Service/Ambiance (4 stars) * We arrived fairly close to closing time. There were only a handful of customers left, and eventually we were the last table. The staff started cleaning up around us, but we never felt rushed. I really appreciate restaurants that allow their customers to finish their meals comfortably, even when it's almost time to close. * One thing I'll never forget about this restaurant happened during the pandemic. My wife came here to pick up food, but at the time they were a cash-only business, and she didn't have any cash. Instead of turning her away, they simply told her to take the food and pay them the next time she came back! My wife went straight to the bank and returned with the money. What an incredible gesture of kindness and trust! It's those little things that make you remember an establishment for years. They now accept credit cards, by the way. ~ The ambiance is pretty typical of a casual Vietnamese restaurant. Nothing fancy, but comfortable enough for a family meal. You'll often see plenty of Vietnamese customers dining here, which adds to the authentic neighborhood restaurant feel.

I noticed cobwebs that appeared to have been hanging in place for a long time, along with dirt and grime collecting in corners throughout the dining room. Even the menus felt sticky, with a visible film of grease and small food particles still clinging to them. The faded print and worn condition made them look as though they hadn't been replaced in years. Those details created an impression of neglect that made it difficult to relax and enjoy the meal. With a thorough deep cleaning and some updated menus, this restaurant could create a much more welcoming dining experience.
