Pho broth is clear and flavorful, they have fresh noodles. Not stingy with the meat portions but the service is lacking. Place is clean.

Am not very knowledgeable about Vietnamese restaurants, so stating that right up front. We were in San Jose last weekend to visit with family, including an aunt in the hospital. After leaving her, the cousins who were in town all met for dinner at Com Tam Thanh. There were 8 of us. One of the locals knew about this place and it was her recommendation that lead us there. What a feast! The portions are very generous, and the menu is extensive. One could call this Vietnamese-Thai fusion, as they had a number of Thai dishes on the menu. We didn't try the "Broken Rice", but the description sounded interesting and they had a large section of the menu with different options in that area. Dear Hubby tried a pho soup. I went for wide rice noodles with shrimp and veggies. Ah-ma-zing! I can still taste the savory sauce and the tender noodles with the plump shrimp. Am wondering if there's somewhere local that I can get something similar as a craving has been notched. We also had two orders of spring rolls for the table and they were so fresh and delicious. A real treat! I wasn't sure I would like the peanut dipping sauce, but I did like it a lot. It didn't taste like peanut butter; it had its own unique flavor. The ambiance didn't make a big impression with me because I was tired and hungry. Everyone needed to decompress after being at the medical facility. It was very nice to be with the family members again in a warm, safe place with delicious food. We took a lot away; the portions were generous. As we were on the road, we ended up giving the leftovers to our grandson to take home when we saw him the next day. Thankfully we had a refrigerator in the hotel room so it worked out well. DH and I could have shared one entree with the spring rolls on the side - it would have been plenty of food.

I hadn't been to this spot in many years, but our usual pho place was closed, and we were in the mood for pho. Com Tam Thanh looked like it hadn't been updated since the last time I visited; the decor is definitely nothing fancy. The service is efficient but no frills. But the food is still good. They have a really large menu for a Vietnamese place; usually, these places specialize in one or two dishes. They offer broken rice plates, pho, porridge dishes, stir-fry dishes, and also noodle salads. I ordered the chicken pho with added vegetables (broccoli, carrots, and cabbage). I usually find the chicken pho broth to be a little less rich than beef, but it was what I was in the mood for. My companion loved his beef porridge. Everything is fresh and fast here.

I only came here because of its close proximity to where I live but I will be returning here for sure. My friend and I ordered pho which was good but my favorite part was the option to swap the rice noodles out for cooked vegetables for $3. My pho had a ton of fresh veggies making the soup still hearty and very satisfying without missing the noodles at all. It is a very casual, authentic place. Not noisy, not very busy. Service was good on a moderately busy Saturday evening.

I was craving Vietnamese food, and after a quick search, I found this place. I'm so glad I did! From the moment you walk in, you can feel its authenticity (don't let the outside fool you). It looks small, but it's actually quite spacious, bright, and clean. The menu offers a variety of options, including enough vegetarian choices in my opinion. The prices are reasonable, especially in this economy, and the portions are pretty generous. The food: well-seasoned, balanced, and with the right texture. If you're in the area, give it a try!

I been here many times, restaurants like family business, service just same pho" any where ,you don't need to expect like fine dining,, just eat , enjoy, yummy, happy and go... don't think too much, i recommend here not the best any dish but all noodle soup

I used to go to Com Tam Thanh often then went a long stretch without going and was crazing some wonton soup so decided to get some take out. The prices have risen significantly from the last time I was here. 3 soups came out to $60. One thing is for the prices to go up another is for them to go up and the quality not follow suit. The soup is fine but nothing out of this world. They do give you a good potion but overall not really worth the expenditure.

Been to the Newark location and this restaurant has a large parking lot and huge inside. It was a tad warm, but service was prompt. Huge menu but I love my pho tai, so ordered that whereas my friend had bun with their grilled pork as our server said their grilled meats are well known. Pho came out with a huge side of my raw onions in vinegar. Overall, it was pretty good. Some steak slices were chewy but some were perfectly tender. It's a standard bowl of pho but on the pricier side for at $16.95 a bowl.

We stopped by on a foggy morning after seeing the place fairly busy. My husband ordered the beef noodle soup with a pork chop on the side. The portion was generous with a good broth and bean sprouts on the side, it tasted good overall. The person at the front came across as a bit rude and the service could have been better. The ambience was just okay and it's on the pricier side for what you get!

Many times I've passed by without further thought, which is a great tragedy cause it turns out their fare is pretty solid and definitely competitive with other Vietnamese spots in the area. Super casual eatery though, so decor is quite simple and service was curt (albeit quite efficient, after you get their attention). Pretty good variety of smoothies and drinks as well, but I was there for a quick lunch and they certainly delivered. As a plus they do have a small parking lot to make it even easier to drop by. Their Brisket Pho (4.5/5) was quite tender and broth was pretty on point, plenty of fragrant veggies to toss in. Broth temp wasn't quite the hottest, but flavor was good and my brother was left quite satisfied. 23 Cam Tam Bi Cha Ga Nuong (5/5) - was a nice combination rice plate with their Chicken. Deliciously tender and well seasoned for a grill option item. The rest of the platter tasted rather home-style with a pretty light seasoning but good on texture and freshness. The side broth given was perfectly piping hot to pair with. Definitely would grab this one again without hesitation.

Came for lunch on a Friday and the restaurant was packed! Clearly, this is a local lunch hot spot! Although it was busy, we were sat fairly quick & ordered shortly after we sat down. I had the rare beef pho which was HUGE. The broth was flavorful and full of noodles and beef. On the side they provided a huge pile of basil , cilantro, lemon, jalapeño, and bean sprouts to add as you wish. This family owned business provides friendly, quick service and delicious homemade comfort meals.

One of our favorite local pho spot that also offers Vietnamese & Chinese entrees. Serving size large enough for two meals. Great place for take out where meals enjoyed at home taste as freshly served dine-in. Time the call in order to enjoy it as fresh as possible because only takes 15-20 min to prep. Seafood pho is Dad's favorite because of the satisfying portion of fish, shrimp & calamari. Careful as the shrimp is usually cleaned thoroughly, but this time the intestine stuck to shrimp. An extra rinse would be fine. Hubby always enjoys the lean raw beef pho. When ordering to go, ask for meat to be pre-cooked and will put in broth. The veggie tofu stir fry was flavorful which included a side of rice.

Tried this restaurant because it was local to where I was at. Decided to get broken rice plate with grilled pork. Both the pork skin and pork chop was delicious! It was soft but you could taste the grilled flavor. My least favorite was the broth and the egg meatloaf. It tasted okay, but not the best. Overall, 7.5/10 meal!

Between Saigon and Hanoi, I went on a full-blown bánh cuốn quest, trying different spots almost daily. Street stalls, little hole-in-the-wall shops, famous spots--you name it. At some point I stopped being a tourist and became a rice-roll inspector. So yeah... my standards are unfortunately very high now. The best bánh cuốn I had in Vietnam was paper thin and almost translucent, with this delicate chew that somehow breaks apart and melts in your mouth. That's the texture I'm chasing. Coming back here, the rice sheets were noticeably thicker and didn't have that same delicate texture. They also weren't as fresh and warm as I remembered, which makes a huge difference with bánh cuốn. This is one of those dishes that's at its best when the sheets are freshly steamed and hit your table warm. The meat filling was also underwhelming and not nearly as flavorful or savory as another bánh cuốn spot I've had in San Jose. With a dish this simple, there's nowhere to hide--the rice sheet, filling, freshness and nước mám chấm (fish sauce) all have to work together. It's certainly not bad, and I can understand why people enjoy it. But after eating my way through Saigon and Hanoi in pursuit of the perfect bánh cuốn, this one is kinda meh for me now. My old review gave this place 4 stars. Vietnam ruined me.

We've probably eaten here 50+ times with family and friends, and one thing I can say is that they are 100% consistent. We've never had a bad meal here. You can order individual dishes or share family-style, which makes it especially easy when coming with a group. It's very casual, family-friendly, quick, and straightforward--nothing fancy and probably not where I'd choose for a date night. But for a dependable meal with family or friends, it's a great spot. As I got further into the bowl, however, the flavor started to feel flat and lacked the rich, slow-simmered depth I expect from a restaurant that specializes in this dish. It tasted more heavily seasoned than deeply developed, so experienced bún bò Huế fans may find it underwhelming. I can understand why it is popular, but I would probably try another bún bò Huế spot next time.

The bahn cuon here is really good -- the rice noodle is so fresh and soft and chewy. This was my favorite and the variety was so appreciated as well! It's also surprisingly filling and I would definitely get this next time I'm here. The fish sauce was also delicious as well. (this is in reference to the dish Banh Cuon Tay Ho Dac Biet) Bahn Beo were good sizes and nicely steamed. I wish there was a bit more sauce because I was running out at the end. Toppings are appropriately sized as well Personal take, I didn't really enjoy the fried pork rind topping as much and would have liked more shrimp, but once again, personal preference. I didn't quite enjoy the Hu Tieu, but my friend liked the soup! It's a little too plain for me. I do love the feeling and texture of eating thick, round rice noodles. The banh xeo that came on the side was hard to crunch through, I felt like it was probably sitting on the side for a while. Vibes were nice -- there's a call button to ask for service. Menu has a lot of items as well (e.g. pho, rice plates, etc), so there's something for everyone if you come with a big group! Our server was also really attentive and sweet -- he came by and asked if we wanted additional dishes/bowls since we were sharing food!

I ordered their egg rolls and banh beo for catering which came with lots of fresh herbs/lettuce, fish sauce, and other toppings. Pricing was very affordable as well for the quality. I have also frequently gone into their store to enjoy a nice plate of com tam or bun thit nuong which has always been great. They provide their nuoc mam/fish sauce on the table and always are attentive. Restaurant is large and can accommodate a bunch of tables. Parking is also on a big plaza so didn't have trouble parking.

It's not outstanding, but it's definitely enjoyable. Unfortunately, the service ruined the experience. As soon as I sat down, I hadn't even had a chance to look through the whole menu before the server kept touching my shoulder and repeatedly pressured me to order. I found it very rude and uncomfortable because I really don't like strangers touching me. The older lady did it to everyone in our table, and she didn't seem to realize she was making our entire group uncomfortable, and it affected our whole dining experience. So, would I come back? Absolutely not. One visit was more than enough. I'm not willing to deal with that kind of pushy service again.
