Well, well, well...this spot lives up to the HYPE! An often recommended Pho spot was the destination for our Friday night date night and it delivered the goods on this frigid winter evening! Plenty of parking was available during our visit in the parking lot outside. Beware that this spot closes kinda early (7pm) so plan accordingly. The space itself is quaint, with an elevated "hole in the wall" feel. Everything was clean and organized during our visit. The staff was welcoming, helpful, and efficient as well. The food really shines at this spot! We started off with the fresh rolls and cream cheese wontons. You could tell they were both made fresh, and I particularly enjoyed the umami dipping sauce of the fresh rolls. The Beef Pho broth was phenomenal, served up with a sizeable amount of noodles and protein of your choice. This has to be some of the best broth I've had in the Cities. The perfect winter staple and will absolutely be added to our frequent rotation when in the mood for Vietnamese!

Service: good Ambiance: pretty nice Food: disappointing Had the pho and spicy pho there, and they were disappointing. We also ordered a com bi suon trung, with grilled chicken instead of pork, to-go. The pho broth tasted watered down and bland and the beef had a refrigeration taste. My mom did not like the taste of the spicy pho at all. The com bi suon trung was ok. The chicken was a kind of dry. Overall, I wouldn't come back or recommend pho 79.

This restaurant is located on the corner of Raymond and Energy Park Drive/Kasota. The restaurant is quaint and feels cozy. The food was absolutely delicious. Great menu choices. The portions are plentiful. Worth finding this place. Also takeout is offered.

Pho 79 (been in business for over +17 years) Such a weird location. Located in an industrial area. Near the train. Good broth. Hot. Really no issues. You can smell the broth when you enter the building. That's a good sign because you know the pho broth has been cooking over 24hrs. Looks like it is owned by Vietnamese people. Not Hmong. Nice decor. Even the bathroom is solid. No Asian but American only. What do you expect at such a different location. I had the Pho Special which is item 0. It's actually a larger bowl than the rest. The others seem smaller. Broth was on point and meatballs and meat was perfect. Meat was soft so the meat was not frozen. Fresh cut. The egg rolls were good. Nothing bad. I was not expecting much because I came to this place from hearing online about them. The pho is actually good. I will be back next time. See if this place can be consistent. Pho 99, 126, and this place are pretty close to being best in town. The broth is clean and not oily. ***FYI, I'm a crazy pho eater that has to have pho from all over. I travel far and in between the states. Eating from LA, Vegas, MN, WI, MI, IL, NC, OH, Manhattan, NY, FL, KS, MS, D.C. Canada, etc. I've had the best pho (rated by the expert locals) in LA, Hollywood, Chicago, GA, and FL. I make reviews after tasting their pho. I know what pho is good and what is fake!*** Do not miss this GEM! My Star System: 1=Dumpster fire. Don't waste your money 2=Disappointed. Lot of issues 3=Average, 1-2 issues. 4=Above average, I might come again 1-3 times per year 5=Highest. I will come back a few times a month or more. If I live far, it's at the top of my list to visit when I'm in town. Highly recommended

Upon entering, I was seated immediately and given the menu. Water is provided along with a smile. Ambiance is peaceful with up to date music that isn't too loud. Very subtle setting. Pho broth is good and if it is I usually only add the basil. Spring rolls could be better. Alittle on the bland side for me. The peanut sauce is good as I added a hint of sriracha. There are only two bathrooms. Overall, very nice and healthy tasting food!! If you're wondering what the food taste... I recommend trying this place out!!

Gosh I wanted to like this place more. The service was so pleasant! And the prices are very fair. The cream cheese wontons are probably the best seasoned ones in the city, but they barely fill them. The other reviews of the pho broth being watery were very valid, it was disappointingly bland. I asked for the chili oil to add some zing, but it was really bitter. I just think there are better pho spots in St. Paul, but this place will do in a pinch.

OVERALL: Great value, authentic, and delicious! SERVICE: The service from Andy was so accommodating and friendly. He's always willing to answer questions and our food came out quickly! waters were always full and we always had what we needed. He's spectacular! FOOD: We ordered a ton of food and loved every bit of it. Don't sleep on the spicy wings - those are so good and flavorful. On hot days I love the noodle salad with egg rolls but I'm always a sucker for soup as well. Truly you can't go wrong with anything you order. ATMOSPHERE: It's homey but still seats quite a few people. PRO: It also has a parking lot!!

A6 Fried Chicken Wings It has nice crunch to it. My son loved it so much! 10/10

My husband and I prefer a vegetarian pho with mushroom broth. It was excellent. The service is good and the price is pretty cheap.

Hole in the wall on University Ave, Pho Ca Dao is a no frills Pho spot with a simple menu and…read morebarebones service. However despite what people say I think it is too pricey for the food and service that you get. You go in and take a seat, eat your food, then walk up to the cash register on the left side of the restaurant when you're done. Oh and it's cash only, no check or credit card here. So I had the House Special #2 Pho whoch included beef steak, flank, tripe, and meatball for $13.95. I also ordered a side of egg rolls for $4. And the Bubble tea for about $4. I'm not sure why the price all of thar somehow became $26 which annoyed me that the fees weren't transparent. Pho: 9/10 Solid option and the broth was rich and flavorful, noodles were thin and tasted great. They gave lots of meat and honestly makes the trip here Egg Rolls: 8/10 Crispy and delicious, my obly gripe is that the sauce that I got was kinda mid. Must have just been old sauce because the flavor wasn't there. Bubble Tea: 7/10 More like dessert and a slushie texture so keep thar in mind. The taro is fine but not something I'd go out my way for. Now despite expecting hold in the wall prices, Pho Ca Dao is pricier than expected. I could compare to Lotus which I had a month ago for about the same price but they provided a far larger portion of sides including chicken wings compared to here, not to mention superior service. Overall if you're in the area I guess this works but note there are better Pho options.

Doctor it up with the bean sprouts, thai basil, jalapeno and lime that served on the side, and maybe an extra touch of hoisin and Sriracha. It's a steal for a quality pho. Service is as unassuming as the spot. Don't expect to be checked in on, water refills, etc. You'll eat happily in peace and pay cash as register on the way out.

I even asked one of the male workers about it, and he told me, "Oh, we're making it, there's a lot of drinks." I understood because the restaurant was packed, but I noticed people who came in way after me were receiving their drinks while I was still waiting on mine. I spent over $60 there and was really looking forward to my drink, so it was frustrating to basically be forgotten about. I understand being busy, but when you work in customer service, you still have to make sure customers aren't being overlooked. The food was good, but the customer service definitely took away from the experience. Hopefully this is something they can improve on.

Its been a few years, but I remembered that I loved their pho broth, and when I tried out their Special Pho, it did not disappoint! Its a bit pricey, but you also get a huge bowl. I can eat a good amount, but I was struggling to finish everything. Easily could split between two if you wanted. Service was quick. I arrived on a weekday evening and was seated fast and got my food quick as well.
