I have to admit the food was delicious, quick and fast and the service was awesome. The food was very flavorful and taste authentic, it has to be right? because it is from Vietnam. We've eaten here 5+ times inside and to go. Portions are great. Food is in time. Pho broth is nice and flavorful. I like to get just brisket because they can't do rare beef on the side, so it's overcooked and tough by the time it gets to you. my husband likes the 86. Egg rolls are very meaty not my preference. Spring rolls are good nothing amazing. Rice noodle bowl wasn't good since nuoc mam was bland. My husband is Vietnamese so my opinion is back up lol read more

This spot was ok, I would say that I could get my pho somewhere else. The pho here taste like it has some lemon in it without me putting it in. The bun bo hue isnt as good as I thought it would be. The bun bo hue taste lemony as well. It might just be my taste bud. The chicken wing was basic, it's like I could make it at home. The banh mi sandwich has a weird sweet taste to it and it doesnt have a lot of meat, carrot, cilantro and jalapeños. I think the mayo was just too sweet. The service was quick and sitting was quick. Tasty food but by far the worst customer service I've received from an authentic Vietnamese restaurant in some time. Probably ever. I believe my server was the owner's daughter. She was rude, never made eye contact, and would rush to leave the table while I was mid sentence. Never said thank you or asked how my meal was at any point. The actual food was quite good. The fried chicken wings have a really nice seasoning and were fried perfectly golden. The Bahn Mi's bread to filling ratio leaves something to be desired but was quite good. This is my family's trusty neighborhood go-to for take-out pho or other noodle soups. We haven't found a pho to rival Trieu Chau on University since moving from St. Paul proper, but the pho at A Chau is consistently very good, the service is fast, and the place is usually packed full of Asian folks when we pick up. Delightfully wonderful, cream cheese had good amount of cheese and not over fried, the fried pot stickers were cooked just crispy right (you can get it steamed too) and the egg-rolls were tasty but not my first place to get egg-rolls also it can never measure up to my family Hmong egg-rolls but for being out, it was pleasantly decent. Also had the curry chicken which was very savory and loaded with veggies so less meat and topped off with peanuts so I will be asking minus that next time; not bad if you like texture and crunchiness. Tried the sesame chicken and that was wonderful and made with good chicken. And as in good chicken I'm referring to not cut up cubed or compacted chicken, it seems natural and possibly hand cut chicken. Vietnamese makes the best pho broths in my option, they rank up there in my personal perspective. I will be returning for future meal outings. I came across this restaurant when my sisters and I were in the area and hungry. A quick search on Yelp recommended this place as one of the nearby options for pho. First time there, no one was there to greet or seat us right away. The place is filled with other patrons. We didn't wait long when a lady came out to seat us. I ordered the Large Pho Special. One of my sisters ordered the regular Pho Special and an order of eggrolls. The other sister ordered the Shrimp and Eggroll Vermicelli Salad. Our orders came out not too long after we ordered. I usually like to try my broth before I dig I to the pho. The broth was clear with a little cilantro and green onion. Upon the first sip, the broth had the right amount of seasoning. The noodle wasn't too soft or too hard. The meat selection included the beef and meatballs. I was in the area again and came back with my daughter. The second time I came back, the waitress came out to greet us and seat as right away. My daughter enjoyed the pho here as well. I wished I knew about this place when I lived closer to Maplewood. I have frequent to A Chau long enough so I thought I should share some of their foods, and what I think about the restaurant overall. They are a Vietnamese restaurant run by the family (I think). At least I can kind of tell there is a husband and wife and sometime they have younger teenagers who could be their children helping out. If you agree by observing the customers you could tell if their foods are authentic to their culture or not. I usually see most are Asian eating here. They have the most fancy menu for a Vietnamese restaurant in the Twin Cities! Award given. Here are my stars rating for the variety of foods they offer: 7/10 Pho 9/10 Bun Bo Hue (Hue Style Pho, Spicy) 8/10 Egg Noodles Soup 9/10 Pork Chop Rice Platter (my favorite) I like the way they serve the rice platter which comes with a soup on the side. I went to A Chau for first time. I ordered the sesame chicken and rice. I noticed it was $15.99 a bit pricey and for white rice too but went ahead. Upon initial impression when I received the meal the rice portion was small. The sesame chicken was a fair amount. When I bite into first piece of chicken it felt like I was biting into a sponge and flavor was minimal. The chicken was hot and appeared a red sauce on it which first time I had seen that but nothing I would go back for. The atmosphere inside feels like I am sitting in a school classroom. This is still my favorite authentic Vietnamese digs in this part of town. The food is great. They lost one star though for their slow service, as was already said by other reviewers. I have not eaten here. I most likely never will. I'll never be able to judge the food, that's why it's not a one star. I called twice and got horrendous service. I haven't even stepped foot into this establishment, I'm afraid of the service face to face. I wanted to see if they have Banh Mi sandwiches for a picnic I was going to, and ask how much they were. My go to spot is Quang, but it was too far for me. They don't have a menu or website online so I had to call. The girl that answered was extremely annoyed instantly. I could tell I interrupted something. Then when I asked my questions she answered with such spite. I was completely turned off to this service. Good thing my picnic got canceled. My second call, I was hungover and needed pho. They opened at 10am. I called at 10:15am to put in a to go order. The guy that answered said it would take 20 minutes, but probably longer. He kept having a second conversation behind him. It was with a another worker. They spoke in Vietnamese, which I understand. He said they just opened so their food isn't ready. I asked, so is it 20 minutes or is it longer? Which is it? He said probably longer. He again reminded me that they just opened. He said I could call back. I said okay, then went somewhere else for food. Prep your food before your guests come!! Surprise! That's how real restaurants do it. Definitely underwhelming. The egg rolls fell solidly midway between the best and worst I've had. The Pho, while not the worst, was pretty close. The "rare" beef was well done. The noodles were also overcooked; they broke apart too easily. The brisket was a weird yellow color that was totally unappetizing. Finally the broth, the most important part of Pho, was so mediocre that it almost tasted canned. So while I can't comment on the rest of the menu, if you're looking for Pho, other Vietnamese restaurants in the area do a better (if not much better) job. read more

The food is decent, pretty good actually. But the service is not acceptable. I have come in 3 times now and never received anything resembling hospitable service. I have ordered the pho specifically without cilantro because I am one of those that tastes soap and it ruins the meal. The pho came with cilantro so I brought it up with my server and she said she would fix it. It came back and they clearly picked out the big leaves but there was a lot of small pieces remaining, it ruins a meal if there is the smallest bit of cilantro for me. I brought it up again and she insisted it was with no cilantro and would not get me a new one. Now today, I am here for my third (and last) time. I ordered a bahn mi to go, the menu (both to go and order in) listed the price at 4.25. She charged me 6.41 with tax and when I asked about it she said they were changing the menu and it was the new price and it wasn't in yet. This was after she was incredibly rude. My brother in law said usually the broth is very flavorful and you don't need to Housin or a lot of other things but this time the pho was okay. Just got take-out from here tonight for the second time and it's really good! My husband and I always order our food without msg and this wasn't an issue at all. We had the Sesame Chicken (the chicken was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside and had just the right balance of heat and sweet.) Shrimp with Broccoli (lots of perfectly cooked veggies with a flavorful sauce but could have used more shrimp.) We also tried the the Chicken Pad Thai (a little on the spicy side but very flavorful.) You can let them know what heat level you want. Looking forward to trying the Vermacelli cold noodle salad next time! I ordered a dish off the "Vietnamese egg noodle soup" section. It came out as more of a stir fry not a soup at all, so that was surprising. It tasted good.. Shrimp with fresh crunchy veggies in sauce with a side or rice. Just not what I thought I ordered..
