The more things change, the more they change. My relationship with Wild Orchid is complicated. I loved 'em. I hated 'em. I loved 'em again. I felt the sting of disappointment. I sorta felt like I'd ended the relationship. But wait-- after a couple of years of not seeing my former favorite... I decided it was time to pay a visit, once again... and Magic, thy soul is a place. I don't know how long it will last, but this may be the best Hmong restaurant in town. New owners? I don't know or care. Just be sure to speak slowly to the guy at the register. His English is a little lacking. My wife wanted to go to Wild Orchid but it was under construction. The restaurant is small but cumbersome, the young waitress waited on us, I assume it is tgeir family memeber. My wife order Kapoon and springrolls and I order my Pad Kaprow ans 2 Wonton Soups. And 2 Thai Ice for me and my just wanted water. When we got our food it was huge, my wifes Kapoon is larger and her spring roll she order was 8-9inches and 1-1/2 inches in diameter. My Pad Kaprow vwry tasty, not hot, not to salty, my has an awesome run like how it should be, and my Wonton Soup is hugh, just at my photos if you go to any Asian restaurant they will give you small portion with a hugh bill. Our food came out to be $65 so I tip the young waitress $20 and thank her for an awesome food and service. This restaurant got my 5 stars rating and we will be back again. The selection of the food is good, I always order a variation of Pho. My issue is I always do take out and always ask for extra Hoisin sauce when I order and if it is the bag when I pick up the food. Well... I am told yes and get home and it is not there. Only a small container 1/2 full with a combination of Hoisin & Siracha. When I spend $15 on soup I want it flavored to my taste. Their failure to add the Hoisin sauce made a big difference in the taste and my satisfaction. We decided to give it a chance. Service was a little slow for a Wednesday night as a new employee was getting ready trained in. Fortunately we weren't in a major hurry and we ordered an app to start. Food: -Cream cheese wontons: triangle folded and good flavor. We really enjoyed the tomato style sweet and sour dipping sauce. - Honey Walnut Shrimp: nice value for the price. Many large shrimp in breading with walnuts and a honey sauce. Some pieces were a little too sweet. Maybe due to the excess sauce on the plate. It made it look pretty though. - Sweet and sour Chicken: lightly breaded chicken and tasty s&s sauce. Peppers and pineapple added to this dish. - Chicken Egg Foo Yung: 2 large patties that had great flavor. The gravy was perfect and savory. - Chicken Fried Rice: they ask for a spice level. I ordered delivery $100 worth of food at Wild Orchid one night because I just didn't have time to cook. I got: -Eggrolls -cream cheese wantons -Bun grilled pork -Bun Special -chicken pad Thai -sweet and sour chicken -fried rice Online ordering was super easy through Yelp. My food was dropped off at the front door within an hour and I could even track where the delivery car was. The food was good but I have a few complaints. My first complaint were the Eggrolls. I thought they would be Vietnamese style Eggrolls but they were more like Chinese style, with the thick wrapper and full of cabbage. I'm not a big fan of Chinese style Eggrolls so I was a bit disappointed. Secondly, there were no option to choose "no spice" for spice levels online. It was mandatory that I choose a spice level which was from 1-5, and when the food came, there were some spice to a lot of my orders. Kids were going to be eating the food but they couldn't eat the majority of the entrees because there were spice to it. The food was a welcome surprise. Tucked away in a little strip mall next to a Mexican restaurant is this little jewel. We had won ton soup which was very good. Pot stickers were very flavorful. Lissa Orchid is the new name previously known as Wild Orchid. The management has changed. We went right when they open for the day. The vibes are quite casual with family and kids around. The service was pretty fast during my experiences (2nd time). The food was overall pretty delicious with bigger portions for sure! We ordered vegetable spring rolls and received regular spring rolls with pork and shrimp. When we attempted to remove the meat, the shrimp had a long, disgusting vein in it. We noticed that none of the shrimp were deveined. My husband got the pad Thai, which was good, although very sweet. The shrimp in this were also not deveined. That grossed us out so we didn't eat any of the shrimp. I ordered the veggie pho, which was good, but nothing special. The wontons were average. The egg rolls were quite good though! Ironically enough, I had some free GrubHub cash that was expiring that day, so that made my decision quite easy. I went with the Bun ga' nuong', which is a Vietnamese grilled chicken salad. I got mine extra spicy. There honestly had to have been 20 ingredients in this dish and I was elated with the amount of effort that must've went in to this dish. The combination of endless fresh veggies, vibrant noodles, and spiced chicken were to die for. This would undoubtedly be one of my go to's in the city. The residents of Maplewood/Woodbury don't realize how good they have it with this spot. I've seen some mixed reviews, but many of those came from Americanized Chinese dishes. The owners are Vietnamese. While I can only speak about the dish I had, I can truly say that it's something that I'd eat at least once a week if it were in Downtown Minny. Furthermore, the prices are ridiculously low and the same aforementioned dish would be $3-4 higher if it weren't out there in the 'burbs. A ripoff. The vegetable spring rolls were essentially huge amounts of letter wrapped in a micro-thin membrane passing as... something. With a bit of tasteless rice-type.. noodles? inside. It came with an odd peanut type sauce. Purely nothing. An excuse to put something on a place. Soda came straight from the glass-door refrigerator that was not hooked up. Soda here is not cold. If I hadn't asked for ice, I wouldn't have gotten any. When I asked for my second soda, it was delivered once in again in a can, warm. The "fried rice" -- for which you have to pay extra -- is really tasteless, and only technically fried, in the sense that it has been tossed around in a hot pan. We were so hungry. If I hadn't been with my elderly mother, I would have sent everything back. If some enterprising person in Oakdale would open a real Chinese or Asian restaurant, they could make a killing. Absolutely amazing bún! I was in the mood for bún, but BF made me look for a new place, and Wild Orchid came up. Not too far, let's give it a try -- SO HAPPY we did! I had the grilled pork bún, and it was absolutely delicious. The pork itself was more in the style of a stir fried pork, served over the salad in a rich and flavorful sauce, and the salad itself was incredibly fresh. Crisp bean sprouts, crunchy lettuce, delicious pickles. The pour over sauce was delicious as well, and overall I think I have a new favorite bun place! Huge, crunchy, full of flavor. My girlfriend likes the cream cheese puffs so we usually get those as well. For being not a huge fan they are amazing. Full of flavor, large portions, huge size. I cannot remember the other selections we have had for main course, but today we had the combination Mi which was also suggested. Once again full of flavor and good portion. Fast forward to me deep-throating an egg-roll. Ok, rewind, so this place used to be Duc's a little while ago, which kinda sucked Duc, so I was skeptical when I showed up to Wild Orchid, which looked the same as the previous business. I have since been back a handful of times for lunch because this place is thankfully a huge improvement. I was recognized after just a couple visits, service is fast, the employees are super friendly, and one of them sounds like Louise from Bob's Burgers. That is a good thing in my book, and an even better thing that instead of finding a "Human Polenta-Pede Burger" in front of me, I usually find delicious Mi, egg rolls, and bun. It was frustrating how long it took me to find an egg roll that t I like in the Midwest. I mean, how hard can it be to make something deep friend, delicious, and phallic?? But Wild Orchid's had finally presented me with a crave-worthy one. I don't even know what it is about it that's so addicting, I just hope it's legal. I recommend checking out their ~$8 lunch specials. I enjoy their pork bun, which is a generous serving and comes with an E-roll. My only complaint is that they're skimpy on the cucumber and carrots even when I ask for extra. I also recommend their Combination Mi, which includes thin egg noodles (that hold up much better than the rice noodles in pho), wontons, pork, and shrimp. My first visit to Wild Orchid was met with a bit of trepidation due to the rather lackluster tenant that used to occupy this address. That said, while the atmosphere hasn't changed much, fortunately the food has. As others have mentioned, no order here is complete without at least one egg roll - they're great. The menu has a number of Vietnamese items (i.e., bun, pho, etc.) and a few American Chinese and Thai items thrown in for good measure. The pho hits the spot on a chilly day, especially after going overboard on the accompanying chili oil and hot sauce. Other items like the lo mein and noodle salads have been fine, if nothing remarkable. Service has always been no frills - you'll order, food will come, sometimes you'll get a water refill, sometimes you won't. Who cares, just order more egg rolls. read more

Pho doesn't taste the same. Eggrolls are different. Spring rolls were not wrapped nicely and were un-proportional. Staff was not well trained. He couldn't answer our questions, like how how is level 5 hot? It's weak. Level 5 hot doesn't even compete with Hot Cheetos. We had a party of 4. We were 1 of 2 parties in the restaurant, but service was very slow. We ordered mostly noodle dishes. We didn't get water right away. When they brought out the eggrolls, there was no dipping sauce. The Pho dishes came out last. I don't know why, but pho usually comes out first at other places because it's so easy to make. Well, they also forgot to give us spoons and chopsticks and the little dish of basil, sprouts, and lime. We had to constantly tell the waiter that we're missing stuff.
