Braised pork belly w egg, purple sticky rice, and Hmong sausage with spicy sauce
    Brittney B.

Ordering from Vangz Kitchen was super easy. Their online menu is great and explains what each dish is and customizations available. There is a good variety of Chinese, Hmong, and Vietnamese options (mainly pho). When I picked up my order the location appeared very clean and chill. I wouldn't mind eating in the restaurant. They also have kiosks where you order rather than ordering with a person, but someone was close to greet me and hand me my to go order. Onto the food, my friend ordered the sesame chicken with white rice. The portion is pretty good sized, unfortunately I don't have a photo. The sauce is very dark, and didnt really give sesame chicken as you'd probably expect from other sesame chickens in the twin cities. However it was a nice umami and cooked well. I enjoyed them, but it was not to my friend's taste nor what she expected. I ordered the braised pork belly special with purple sticky rice and Hmong sausage. The pork belly came with one egg, you can add more for an additional cost. The sausage comes with a spicy sauce, which you can also get extra for additional cost. The pork belly was soooo fatty. Like barely any fat rendering seems to have occurred and for being braised and fatty the meat was surprisingly dry/tough. The flavor was very sweet. It would have been nice for a bit more salty/umami to shine through. The egg was yummy, sauce penetrated the egg white pretty completely. Not sure how those are supposed to be in this particular dish, but it was a hard boil, not jammy or anything like that. The Hmong sausage was my favorite, very nice texture and flavor. The sauce is super spicy and pairs well with everything. The purple sticky rice was also perfect. Last, I added on a mango cheese bun which was fresh, lightly sweet, and delicious however it was not made from Vangz. It was pre packed from a St Paul bakery, so still local at least but I was expecting from their dessert options that those were made in house. Overall, the meal was decent. I purposely went with a special dish rather than a more popular choice because I like to show different options in my reviews. I hate when I can't find the whole menu in actual customer photos. If people are only ordering 5 items from you, that says something about your menu and overall food quality. I'm still curious to see what else Vangz has to offer before I write them off. I was torn between choosing the pork belly stir fry or crispy pork belly. I'd also love to try their pho. I will be back to try more and update my review :)

Seems like they are still figuring some stuff out. Went there on a Friday afternoon and the place was hopping. No lunch specials, only the full menu that is posted here on Yelp. If you want to pay with cash, then you will have to order in-person, next to the water station... otherwise the ordering is done via the kiosks. I am honestly debating between a 3 & 4 stars as the service was great, friendly. The restaurant is bright with plenty of sunlight. The seating area and the fixings areas are clean. I was not impressed by the food. It seemed alright. Nothing that blew me away. The chicken fried rice was mid. Pho was ok, nothing to brag about. It was good to see the owner walk around, mingling with customers, asking them about their experience and what can they improve on etc.

Nice spot, you can tell they rushed opening no shades and bathrooms not put together yet. You order from a machine which is okay but as a new spot it would be nice to talk about the menu. They have self service water station and I asked the lady at the counter for a picture to bring to my family of water and they didn't have any. The food we all enjoyed everything we tried. Spring rolls- sauce made these. Egg rolls- delicious classic , flavorful Sesame chicken- breading was light but sauce was flavorful. Vegetable fried rice was average but good to have with chicken. Pho - less flavor than most phos but lots of chili sauce on the table to add. While there are things to work through this is a nice spot and we are excited to go back and try the ramen.

Don't entertain the low ratings cuz they're being dishonest about Vangz!!! Show a pic of why the low rating. Some folks refuse others to thrive in business and this is the case here. The food is Good!!! I've actually eaten here and I have zero to gain by being honest about my experience. Delicious combination pho!!! Clean and light broth which only needed a tad of fish sauce and Siracha. Chicken wings are crispy and the Hmong pepper sauce complimented them well. Shrimp spring rolls are fresh and yummy. My family and I are so Happy there is Hmong food in Cottage Grove!!! Thank You.

Decent effort for the suburbs. Service is a bit rough as they just opened. You place your order at one of two kiosks, grab a number and find a seat. My favorite items were the lo mein and pork Hmong sausage. The owner of the previous restaurant in that location was there this opening weekend to cook the Chinese food dishes so it was wonderful to get that nostalgic taste in the lo mein and sesame chicken. I'd probably pass on the pork eggrolls next time. Our party thought that they looked pinkish but supposedly you can eat pork a bit pink now *shrug* and it didn't taste or look raw. No one in our party got sick. Papaya salad was okay. It could use a bit more tartness/sourness and definitely more spice. Perhaps some more tamarind or lime. I would love more beef flavor or maybe have beef paste available at the condiment table to amp up the beefiness. Definitely could use more meat, felt like a very small portion in the pho. The pork belly must have been pretty popular as they were sold out as the dinner hour came about. Khao poon was sold out as well. Soda was pretty costly at 3.99 for a small cup. I'm not sure if refills are included but at that price, I'd rather try a boba drink. Lots of updates to the building. It was pretty crowded and felt smaller than before the renovation but they did build an office into the entryway. Lots of hustle and bustle. Service felt a bit lacking but I assume it's because they just opened and with them just recently looking to hire people, they are still adjusting. I'd be interested in seeing if service improves as they start to settle in. *update* service has improved now that the craziness of opening weekend has died down. The owner was seen going around welcoming people and checking on everyone. Hoping they'll introduce an online ordering system. Tried the pork belly. It was deliciously salty and crispy. I got more skin than meat or fat cap but I didn't mind cause how can you hate the crispy belly skin when that's the best part. Chicken wings were flavorful and crispy.

    Pho combo

They are very generous with the ingredients for the pho! Lots of meat! Love it! So far the favorite items are the pho combo, chicken wing laab, and eggroll! Keep up the good work and customer service!

The food was all great! Bright, clean, beautiful sit down area. The ramen station was a fun experience (just would have been nice to have a label on the menu with which were spicy and which weren't). The staff were super helpful and accommodating.

Vegetable lo mein, rice, cream cheese wonton, and sesame chicken. Ordered it take out. This was taken at home.

Paid an extra $4.00 for a combination meat lo Mein and there was hardly any meat ingredients. $18.00 for lo Mein should be packed with meat.

I truly wanted to try the pre-made foods. We walked in and the lights were dimmed. It felt more like I was walking into an art gallery than an Asian grocery store. No one shouting. No funky smells. The produce section was what I walked into first. I was met with 4 green onions, 2 onions, a bag of bean sprouts, and a few fruits but all the produce were all wilted. At least everything else was neatly organized. Then we went to the sauce area, then to the ramen, then to snacks and so forth. All the products were at least 25% or more, higher in price than what's available in the grocers in St. Paul. Yes, you're paying more for the ambiance. Make the drive over to the hundreds of other Asian grocery stores there. I don't even live close and I make the effort to do my big grocery shopping in St. Paul for the price and variety. Anyway, I didn't see any or much SE Asian grocery items that would help me cook my dishes. Most items were catered to East Asian cuisine. Their precooked food area was sad. The pre-cooked rice looked mushy. The breads were dried and flaky. Disappointed to say the least. As an Asian person, I wouldn't frequent the establishment even in desperate times.

I was thrilled to see that there is an Asian grocery in Woodbury and it's just down the road from Costco. So I gassed up with some cheap fuel, bought a vacuum that I probably don't need (Costco, amiright?) and swung into United Noodles with my ramen recipe. The store is immaculate and well organized. The woman working the counter was super helpful and showed me where all my ingredients were located. They have an impressive selection of Asian and Hawaiian brands. I'm looking forward to shopping here more often!

If I need any Asian grocery items, I usually just have my mom get them for me from a list that I would send her. I am very sensitive to smell and vomit very easily so I try to go in and out of Asian grocery stores as quickly as possible and especially on an empty stomach just in case I do vomit. The raw meat section smell is terrifying at every Asian market I wish it was sectioned far away from the entrance of deli foods. But it's not & they cut the raw meats in the open air (not enclosed or closed door separate room) & the smell lingers into the entire store at every Asian market & just makes me very ill. Luckily, the deli register line is only for the deli so I can just order deli foods and check out in the same line and then I'm out the door.

I tried Bambu Kitchen & Sushi Restaurant in Oakdale for the first time tonight via delivery, and as…read moresomeone who loves both sushi and Thai food, I was excited to give it a shot. The sushi genuinely impressed me. It was affordable, flavorful, and the fish tasted fresh. I ordered the spicy tuna roll and really appreciated that the tuna wasn't ground into mush - these were solid, thick cuts of fish with just the right amount of heat. My only minor critique is that the roll could've been wrapped a bit tighter to keep the end pieces from falling apart, but honestly, it didn't take away from how delicious it was. I would happily order it again (and again). The Drunken Mussels were also a hit. The portion size was generous and the sauce was salty in a satisfying way--overall, a great dish. I ordered the Spicy & Sweet Blast Curry (mild), but unlike other Thai spots where mild still brings the heat, this one had zero spice and ended up feeling a bit flat. It wasn't bad; just not very flavorful or authentic-tasting to me. Next time, I'd skip the curry or at least order it hotter, because I think more spice could make a big difference. Overall, I was very happy with my order and will definitely be ordering from Bambu again. Especially for the sushi.
