I really enjoyed my Com Sa Mi Da Ramen; it was a mix of spicy and sweet. The broth was flavorful and vegetables were fresh. I wished they added more bean sprouts, but overall the vegetables complemented the broth well. Chicken was also tender and poached egg was good. Shoyu broth was okay. The more we drank the soup, the more we got tired of it. Overall, they had interesting selection of ramen. But, there was no appetizer except for maybe cucumber salad and ssam (stuffed lettuce). I think it's worth starting with - I am not a ramen person but this place may have changed my perspective! I had the Korean bowl - chicken, sesame seeds, it was all phenomenal! There was so much flavor and it wasn't too spicy. I was able to take leftovers home and I swear it was even better the next day. They also have an option where you can purchase additional noodles. Tori could be so much better than it is. The space itself is absolutely fantastic. It's a converted train car of some sort beautifully decorated on the inside. Warm and inviting with a nice bar on once side and the main dining room on the other. Unfortunately service and food were subpar. Our server was cold and seemed frazzled most of the time. The one thing we loved food-wise was the appetizer. It was a curry potato which was delicious. My NA drink was just ok. It was labeled an old fashioned but wasn't served like one. Very very mild flavor that tasted like flavored sparkling water. The ramen was disappointing. I got the Korean ramen. The broth was just not that good. Too heavy and too much kimchi. Chicken was the first ingredient on the menu for this ramen but there was barely any in the bowl and what was there was not high quality. For $20 ramen you expect more. Wife got the salted duck ramen for $22 and it was the same story there. Broth was not good and barely any duck. She liked all the herbs it was served with on top. Took a good long while to get our check even though they had people waiting for tables. Got charged a credit card service fee which I wouldn't have minded if I actually used a credit card. However, I used a debit card which charges minimal transaction fees. All very disappointing for a place we were excited to come to. read more

The best ramen in Minnesota and it doesn't cost a fortune! The Dra(MN) is the favorite of me and my family and is jam packed with flavor and heat. The street car couldn't be any cuter and the service is... fine. Nothing spectacular but not terrible. LOL. They don't give you ice water, but will supply ice upon request. The appetizers are worth trying as well. The Korean cucumbers are a fave and the newer "egg snacks" are a delicious bite, but at $4 per egg (2 halves), that's a one time purchase for me. They had some Korean dishes that looked interesting, as well as chili crisp which is more Chinese/Taiwanese. The service was friendly, though not very fast. Regarding the food, there was a lot of stuff in this ramen. I ordered the miso, which came with noodles that had a nice chew, a hearty helping of chicken, a cold soft boiled egg, green onion, another green - maybe bokchoi, a little corn, and lots of soggy bonito flakes. I wasn't a fan of the bonito flakes not because I don't like them, but because there was just too much of it. I felt that the broth was alright. My friends ordered the miso with random vegetables and the shoyu with random vegetables. They enjoyed it! The random vegetables this time around included carrot and wood ear mushrooms. My husband and I have been to Tori a few times and the food had never disappoint us. The Korean duck ramen I believe it was called was delicious! Appetizers were good (we got the cucumbers and a fried chicken). Drinks were pretty and tasty also (we also had an espresso martinis which was perfect). Cute atmosphere but because during the summer they have na open concept just expect some flies. Service was attentive and friendly. Was so excited to see you when the restaurant posted hours because we have been trying to go here for a bit! The experience of being in an old train car is so cool!! Cream of chicken noodle soup is where it's at. This will be my only ramen place I go to in town from now on and has a standing in my list of all time favorite places. My husband and I stopped at Tori with about 60 minutes to burn before Curling one night. We were drawn in by the cute boxcar out front and had no idea it was a Ramen place or that the theme was Korean. But, we love both of those things, so we were delighted and found two stools at the bar. Our bartender was very helpful in understanding and navigating the menu and explained a few of his favorites. We ordered the Korean cucumbers and were really happy with the crunch of the pickle slices and shaved carrots and onions, as well as the portion that equated to basically a side salad. We also wanted to try one of the Ramen dishes, since we were curious about the fact that their broth is chicken based. We tried the Korean Ramen, and it was really delicious! The broth had flavors of sesame, soy, fresh herbs, and lemon and I could have eaten a large bowl of just that! Tori is SO. GOOD. The restaurant itself is super cute; it's an old train car that has lots of natural light, plants everywhere, & comfortable seating. We came with a large group & the staff were super accommodating for all of us, including separating the check (which can be a really annoying ask). This was my second time coming; the first time, I got ramen (which was delicious). I wasn't as hungry this time, so I got the Korean Buttered Noodles. They were so creamy and delicious, obviously buttery, but with a lovely gochujang bit of spice. I didn't love the (not sure what they were & I forgot to take a picture of the menu) "red hairs" that were topping the dish, since they had the mouthfeel of literal hairs. When I reheated my leftovers, though, I mixed them throughout and that made them less offensive lol. I also ordered the Little Bird, which is their spin on a margarita. Due to some confusion (really on my friend's part, since she grabbed the first cocktail that came out), I ended up with the Dirty Bird instead, which I believe is the same drink but with mezcal and blueberry. The drink was tasty for sure; my only complaint is that the small ice cubes & no straw make it difficult to get the last little bit of the cocktails. Our server was great overall; like I said, I really appreciate how thoughtful & accommodating they were for our large group. My only complaint was the time it took to actually get my cocktail. It ended up coming after my food, after I'd asked about its whereabouts. Definitely just a bit of confusion, but fully understandable. I'm going to rate 4-stars just because there were a few things a little off and I hope the owner takes them to heart. As a restaurant, this place has work to do with organizing seating, communication between front of house and the back, and not chastising employees in front of customers. Also as others have noted, air circulation could also be improved, when it's cold out, it's steamy inside without great ventilation. I genuinely would like them to address these because the food they are serving is very good, the drinks are great, and the ambiance is very cool. My wife had the Korean and I had the Salted Duck ramen. These aren't traditional Japanese ramens to be sure, but don't let that stop you from checking them out. All the ingredients are top notch, the aromatics are off the charts, and the depth of flavor is on point. The cook on all the ingredients demonstrates a good level of mastery and attention to detail. I would say that I could do with less herbs in the soup or have them served off to the side Pho style, so I can add them as I like, getting them free of the noodles so you don't eat them is tough - at some point it becomes overwhelming. I'll also warn others, the Salted Duck is very salt forward, bordering too much. I would get it again however; the broth's flavor is amazing, rich, and the duck itself was cooked perfectly. The portion sizes are generous and the menu is varied - I'm interested in coming back for the eclectic offerings. I will say that it does fit a different niche than a traditional ramen joint, it's a little better for folks looking for an experimental/experiential deal that's maybe a good date night option. I was really excited when Tori moved back into Saint Paul. I love the "train" style restaurant on West 7th. The last few times we've gone, the ramen has been excellent. It's not typical ramen, as it is more creative. The last time we went back, however, the ramen was super oily (e.g., it had too much chili oil was put on top). Most of all, my $22 salted duck ramen was the blandest ramen I've ever had, and I only had maybe 4 pieces of meat. So disappointing.
