The servers were attentive and we did not even need to use the call button. Food came out quickly, it was delicious. The broth is flavorful, they add in a good amount of extra ingredients. I love bamboo and the was plenty of it in the bowl. The egg was cooked perfectly. The noodles have a great chewy consistency. It was filling and I even got a to go container. The ramen was still good the next day, not soggy as you'd expect. They have cayenne pepper and some pickled peppers if you want more spice to the ramen. The bubble tea here is also really good, it's nice and easy to order with the kiosks they have. The pork belly in my ramen came out undercooked and was too tough to bite through. The server helped replace it, but the second one came out the same. It was definitely slow cooked and simmered with excellent ingredients and seasoning. THIS is rare at a Ramen restaurant- - most are too tempted to cut time and budget by adding instant soup mixes loaded with too much of everything and missing the flavor from soup broth slowly stewing with real beef, pork. And the natural deliciousness of natural beef and pork fat stewing slowly for hours. At most ramen restaurants I rarely finish the bowl - - eat maybe 1/3-1/2. That night I FINISHED the whole bowl and loved the broth so much I packed it and a tiny amount of noodles to go! Crazy. I've never left a zero tip at a restaurant until today at Kyu Ramen. I ordered two ramen combos and asked for one spicy and one mild. The serve-an older man-immediately rolled his eyes, stomped his feet, and told me I could only have one spicy noodle. That was fine with me; I just needed one spicy and one non-spicy, and I used "mild" to describe the non-spicy option. Throughout the ordering process, he rolled his eyes at me at least four times and acted visibly irritated and condescending. I was honestly very close to leaving the restaurant. I have never encountered a server as rude as he was. It's unfortunate because the food was great, but I wouldn't want to be treated like this again. What sets Kyuramen apart from other ramen restaurants is not the noodles or broths, but the amazing appetizers/ Japanese street foods, and the omurice that's a treat for both the taste buds and eyes. Also the wide variety of drinks offered by the T-Baar at the entrance. The decor is very fun, and like a small portal into Japan. Guests are greeted by a wall of ema plaques next to the host stand, seats at the bar where you can watch ramen being cooked, private booths along a narrow hall festooned with red lanterns, and a row of sake barrels. We ordered a lot since we wanted to try not only the ramen, but the appetizers and drinks as well. Everything came out super fast. We tried several of the street food style appetizers: takoyaki octopus balls, popcorn chicken, Japanese oysters, shrimp lollipops, Aji mackerel, and baby octopus. The hands down favorite was the oysters - perfectly fried with a crisp exterior that was light and not at all greasy, and bursting with flavor from the delicate center. The takoyaki balls were phenomenal - soft and slightly chewy with large bonito flakes dancing on top. The octopus and mackerel were also great - crisp and tender with a slight chewiness. Another dish to note is the omurice - an egg omelet served over fried rice with your choice of sauce. When our server cut it open at the table, soft-cooked egg flowed out onto the rice. Then delicious brown sauce was poured over it (we chose that over the curry sauce). It was delicious! As for the ramen, I asked for a flavorful option and was directed to the sapporo miso ramen (spicy). It had a very rich broth with layers of flavor that started with creaminess from the miso, followed by savoriness of the pork, and finished with spiciness from a chinese barbecue sauce. The chicken ramen had a richness that I was surprised could be achieved by chicken alone, and didn't have any of the buillon notes that chicken broths sometims have. TIP: adding togarashi and sauerkraut (they are in cute pots on each table) gives the chicken ramen a great subtle spice and kicks the flavor up a few notches. Both bowls had meat that was tender and sliced beautifully, as well as bamboo shoots, seaweed, corn, and scallions. The surprising star of the ramen was the marinated egg, which was tender and had lots of great umami flavor. I'll definitely be back for the street food apps and omurice. Overall, this was the best ramen spot I've been to so far in the Twin Cities! I'm not the biggest ramen fan, but the Spicy Kyushu Tonkatsu ramen had me wanting more. It was a Friday. I was working in my hotel room. Lunch time was fast approaching. I needed to fetch lunch. Where should I go? I decided to give Uber Eats a try. I did a search and found Kyuramen. Ramen felt fitting. It was also close by. The drive was roughly five minutes from the hotel. Perfect! The eatery has combos. Yay! I went with the A2 combo that featured these items: - Tokyo tonkotsu shouyu ramen - Matcha pudding with red bean - Steamed pork bao buns - Thai iced tea I also ordered pan-fried gyoza. Once I had placed my order, I got word that it would take twenty minutes to prepare. Nice! I took my time driving over to the eatery. It shares the same entrance as Tbaar. It's in a plaza with tons of parking. I pulled into a spot and walked over. Tbaar was to my right when I entered the place. I realized that my Thai milk tea was from this place. A nice man from Kyuramen walked over to me and said hi. I let him know that I had an Uber Eats order and stated my name. My order was ready and sitting on the counter. He handed everything over to me. The eatery's interior is stunning. I told him that it was pretty and he seemed to be elated. I thanked him and wished him a nice day. He reciprocated. I headed to my car and drove back to the hotel to chow down in my room. I did order a lot of food. I ate everything and had a nap afterwards due to a carb overload that I hadn't experienced in ages. I had the pan-fried gyoza first. They were fantastic. I loved how crispy they were. This place went one step further by having a bit of sauce at the bottom of the pan that also crisped up. These gyoza were the best that I've had in quite some time. The filling was chicken with some veggies. It was flavourful and generous. My ramen was amazing. I liked the packaging. The pork broth was at the bottom of the container. There was a tray above it that had the ramen. I basically dunked the ramen in the hot broth. I then added the corn, chashu, wakame, half-marinated egg, nori, and scallion that were packaged separately. I asked that the bamboo shoots be held. I chose black garlic. The broth was delicious. It was the best of tonkotsu and shouyu, which I loved. I normally don't do full-on tonkotsu broth. I liked this mix. The ramen was perfectly done. The chashu was tender. I need to order more next time. I'm so spoiled by the thick cuts of chashu that I get from Ramen Misoya that every other joint can't compare in that department. I loved the corn, egg, and scallion that completed this ramen bowl of awesomeness. the nori was a bit soggy when I got it. It wasn't horrible, but it looked so sad and limp. The black garlic was awesome. If you're a garlic fan, go with it. My Thai milk tea was fabulous. The Thai tea was strong. I loved it. The milk made it so creamy. The space itself is clean, well-lit, and on theme for the cuisine. Service wasn't super attentive during our stay, as our server never came by to refill our waters and eventually we had to track down another server to get our check. For starters we checked out the chili garlic edamame which was some of the best I've had! We also shared spicy bamboo shoot and pork bao buns. The flavors were all fabulous. We requested to get seated in a booth and the employees were super nice about getting us a booth. We both loved that the booth had a place to store our jackets. One of my friends really loved it and the other thought it was going to be something different and felt it was more like egg and gravy. We sat in one of the cute side rooms that has a curtain and feels like your own private little booth. The server was very patient as it took our party awhile to all get there and to order. Only thing with those rooms if you have a big group be prepared that they can't split to individual bills. Either one person can pay and the rest pay them back or you can do like we did and split the bill into checks of three. I really really loved the pork broth. New ramen in town so have to check it out. Conveniently there is a T-baar boba right inside. Didn't have good experience from the one in Illinois but this one is way better! For some, it is much sweeter but I have a sweet tooth so it was perfect sweetness. Came here on a Saturday night at 630 for 12 people. It only took about 30 mins we got seated. Can't make a reservation so you have to be there. The dining area isn't too but but they have these nice private booths for big parties. It was cool. Can fit about 8-12 max. They have a button to call the server once you're ready to order. There's a lot of different ramen choices. A good amount of appetizers. Some things might not be on the menu like the egg over rice so ask for it if you want it. Appetizers- pretty much everything was good. Chicken karaage was a little dry. Pork belly had a lot of fat as you can see. Not my type of food but for those who likes pork belly maybe you'll enjoy it. It is a bit pricey. Ramen- I got 2 ramen mild spicy. It didn't tasty a little spicy at all and broth is a little bland to be honest. I had a sip of #1 Tokyo Tonkotsu and I think it is much better not as bland. #4 Sapporo miso ramen, not a fan either. The broth honestly tasted like the broth that you eat at hotpot spicy flavor. Doesn't taste like the typical miso ramen I've had before. Pork tonkatsu omurice combo- comes with tonkatsu, egg and fried rice plus a choice of lemonade or Thai tea. The cut the egg and pour the sauce at the table. A little cool. It seems cool through videos before eating but the taste is pretty normal. Overall, I enjoyed the appetizers more than the ramen which is a shame. May be coming back to try #1 for myself or the curry ramen that looks pretty good. Saw that they have offer half and half so might try that next time if it's still available. The staff was quite attentive in the beginning but towards the end after pressing the button many times they didn't come to get more orders. One of our order was wrong and was never brought out and the person ended up waiting an extra 30 mins after everyone already got their food and pretty much finished. Not sure what happened there but they didn't do anything about it. Maybe better next time. read more
