Tay Ho is a fun whole in a wall type of restaurant. It really is a cute family owned restaurant served by aunties who have been there for years. No frills straight to the point, menu is clear- has both Chinese and Vietnamese dishes. Pho is good but light in flavor, on the sweet side. There are 2 sizes, I think for the price protein is somewhat lacking. There are other options around the city if preference for pho is more beefy and rich in flavor. The grilled pork Banh Mi is good, chewy bread crunchy texture. I would return for the Banh Mi. The grilled pork is more of a sweet roast pork versus the lemon grass pork that you might typically get elsewhere. Cream cheese wontons were not memorable. Pass.

I recently went to Tay Ho, a small Vietnamese hole-in-the-wall located in St. Paul, MN. I grew up on Vietnamese food, so naturally, I have a big love for it and Tay Ho did not disappoint. My mom and I were there for a lunch date and she got their B1 aka "Bun Dac Biet" ($12.95) which is a vermicelli noodle salad with an egg roll, grilled pork, pickled veggies & a grilled pork meatballs skewer (skewer was on the sweeter side). It was the perfect summer option! I opted for their M5 "Mi Hoanh Thanh" ($12.95) which is their egg noodle soup with wontons & sliced pork - a soup for the soul). The wontons broke a part a bit in the broth, but the filling tasted great. All in all everything was tasty, and prepared fresh! I loved my mi's broth - slurp ready. Portions were generous and compared to other Viet places in the Twin Cities, it's cheap for what you get. I would go to Tay Ho again for their service alone. Our server (also named Kim) was a sweetheart who was on top of it & so welcoming - left me wishing service was this good at every local establishment. If you haven't tried Tay Ho yet, you've gotta put it on your list! I can't believe I didn't dine in when I was a student at nearby Hamline. They have great daily lunch combos you need to check out!

I've lived in Minnesota long enough to brag about this place ! Something must be in there pho because it cured my sickness many times lol including covid ! This is the only place where I completely eat my entire bowl of pho and also broth ! I love how it comes out steamy hot unlike other places where it comes out warm and by the time you get mid way it's cold already , not here tho ! My favorite and Go to spot most definitely! Take a look at Me and my boyfriend's bowl !

This is one my of favorite go to places for pho. It gets busy quickly so be prepare to navigate around for parking if the lot and off street parking are full. Today, we've arrived before 11 o'clock and got our choice of parking spot. The lines are faded so we did our best to make room for others. Not long after we arrived, other customers started trickling in. Today we ordered: Egg rolls - cut in halves, came with egg roll sauce, has pepper flakes and fish sauce Bun Bi Special - cut in halves Pho Special - side of bean sprouts, Thai basils, jalapeño and lime. Shrimp Rice Platter - lettuce leave under the food, a broth with cilantro and a dipping sauce The food were delicious and shared between the two of us. The services were fast and friendly. We will definitely go there ago next time.

Tay Ho is a pretty good place. I have been here a couple of times. Here is what I got... i got the fried rice special which has chicken, pork and shrimp. The flavor of fried rice was kind of plain, however my niece still like it . The chicken wings was a good decent size which is great it was plain looking however the flavor was well salted. The eggroll was good as well, however the outside looks like it was super fried up. Also, I got the vermicelli salad ( meatball, eggroll and pork). The taste of the fish sauces after pouring it into the salad got water down, which to my surprising it doesn't happen often but it happens. Lastly, i got the bun bo hue it was good, however it does taste a little water down . Overall, great customer service and food is good.

    Pho dac biet

Sat down and was given water that was less than 3/4 filled with no ice. The pho dac biet was ok. It had a sweeter taste. It had one piece of tripe and maybe a piece of tendon. The service was good as I believe it was the manager who took my order. She refilled my cup of water with out me asking seeing that it was less than 3/4 fill, I barely took a sip of the Luke warm water. She tried to be interactive with conversation but it was hard when I had food in my mouth and she was walking away before I could answer.

This is nothing fancy. Good little hole in the wall. Plenty of off street parking. Great Pho.

Unfortunately, when we arrived around 6:45 pm, they were sold out. To me, this implies that the Banh Mi's are top notch so my goal is to return again at an earlier hour to snag one. There is a tiny parking lot which is nice otherwise I believe you will need to seek out street parking behind University. I don't know what to expect inside but I was surprised. The Bahn Mi has a little walk-up line similar to Subway where it's made on the spot. All other items can be ordered via table service. I got a passion fruit bubble tea smoothie with tapioca pearls to start and my friend and I both opted for pho since our planned menu item was sold out. Pho comes out almost immediately which is nice especially if you have places to be. It was fresh, hot, and came with the toppings on the side to add as you please. I'll definitely return! 4 stars due to the main item being sold out and really good pho but not outstanding blow me away good. Additionally, there are plastic spoons for pho and I was hoping for a regular utensil. Lastly, the waiter was really quick to ask us what we wanted to eat without much time to explore the menu.

However despite what people say I think it is too pricey for the food and service that you get. You go in and take a seat, eat your food, then walk up to the cash register on the left side of the restaurant when you're done. Oh and it's cash only, no check or credit card here. So I had the House Special #2 Pho whoch included beef steak, flank, tripe, and meatball for $13.95. I also ordered a side of egg rolls for $4. And the Bubble tea for about $4. I'm not sure why the price all of thar somehow became $26 which annoyed me that the fees weren't transparent. Pho: 9/10 Solid option and the broth was rich and flavorful, noodles were thin and tasted great. They gave lots of meat and honestly makes the trip here Egg Rolls: 8/10 Crispy and delicious, my obly gripe is that the sauce that I got was kinda mid. Must have just been old sauce because the flavor wasn't there. Bubble Tea: 7/10 More like dessert and a slushie texture so keep thar in mind. The taro is fine but not something I'd go out my way for. Now despite expecting hold in the wall prices, Pho Ca Dao is pricier than expected. I could compare to Lotus which I had a month ago for about the same price but they provided a far larger portion of sides including chicken wings compared to here, not to mention superior service. Overall if you're in the area I guess this works but note there are better Pho options.

I lived in the Houston and Garland Texas area all my life where there is a large vietnamese population... and for the past 5 months, I have just been exploring Minnesota and Wisconsin and Illinois for vietnamese food. This evening... I was just craving pho. lets start with the ambiance. Its a pretty hip place once you get inside. I do like the cultural blend of modern and old school, and you see it with the different type people that come in. The staff there was prompt, and unlike my old school favorite in Richardson Texas... the staff to customer ratio was high. So the service was quick and attentive. Now for the pho. I went with the Dac Biet because I never know sometimes if I will get tough precut preprocessed meats... not in this case. I felt that all the ingrediants were fresh...and catered toward the old school viet palette, which I thank you. I understand a lot of pho house have to stay in business and cater to the local palette but this one was spot on. You can just breath in the right mixture of ingrediants. The bowl was reasonably priced, and the portions were similar to what I am used to having in Houston. It was fantastic as I scarfed it down to quick and forgot to take a picture. However, all the pictures that I have seen associated with this location are accurate. Overall, I would come back here. Service staff was as expected for a busy day and we kept getting the wrong items sent out but they were nice and apologetic, it was just a busy day and had newer staff. Parking is limited, be sure to pay attention to where you're parking since certain spots are meant for businesses nearby. They have patio seating but I don't know if they actually provide food service outside. Bathrooms are currently out of service so they have two port-o-potties outside. It's a nice space and gets lots of natural sunlight, I do wish they had some tint or blinds though because we were seated next to a window and it was a bit blinding especially with the sun reflecting off the metal cups and laminated menus. I've heard great things about their food but for me it was a miss. We all had pho but the amount of herbs and fresh toppings wasn't sufficient for 6 phos. They were accommodating and gave us additional items we asked for. The calamari was on the greasier end and was bigger than expected. For my palate both the banh mi and pho were lacking in flavor. I put a lot of things into my pho but it just didn't taste like anything to me except for pho powder. The ribeye pho had a generous portion of broth but only like 5 slices of meat. The oxtail stone bowl pho one looked hot and didn't have enough space to add everything in without it overflowing while the other didn't look like the broth was hot enough to cook the noodles. I will say though their ordered drink cups and to-go containers game was top notch. I received a reusable bag with my two banh mis to go instead of a plastic bag. It's probably not somewhere I'd return to unless someone else absolutely had to have it but to each their own.
