There is a lot to like about this place and I will definitely return. I like straightforward steak pho like you get at places like iPho, and they have that covered here just fine. But their banh mi is where they hang their hat, and I get that. I've had the Banh Mi Bo Nuong with pork, and I loved that pork in there, very nicely cooked. I think I'll get that again for sure. We also tried their "Vietnamese Roll Roll" which is, I kid you not, a full fried egg roll INSIDE an oversized cold spring roll! And it works! I would get that again! But like, definitely split it with at least one person as an appetizer. I've also gotten smoothies both times, and I REALLY liked the taro one. The manager that has been here for both of my visits is so nice, you will definitely love her if you chat with her. And she's really honest about her menu, she will tell you if something isn't as good or popular as something else. Specifically, if you get a smoothie you should ask for her recommendation about adding boba bits. But don't get me wrong, she is very proud of their food. This is a really cute, homey neighborhood Vietnamese place that I look forward to visiting with some regularity. read more

Saw this place online and really wanted to try the egg rolls cause I never seen any like that. They have a small parking lot on the side of the building. I got there about an hour before close and the staff was still very friendly and accommodating. Average asian restaurant inside, nothing too crazy. Felt like a cozy family owned spot. I sat down, ordered a few things. It all came out as prepared and was very hot! I love when restaurants do this but I usually have to ask. I cant stress enough how nice these people were, I was shown how they like to eat the egg rolls. Wasn't many people in there but they made sure I was taken care of. Egg rolls were super good and filling, the wings were pretty good and the shrimp were the basic ones you usually get. My husband and I are Phi connoisseurs (or so we like to think). We have tried MANY Pho's across the places we have lived and we can say confidently this is in our top 3. The location is a good size so you shouldnt struggle for a table. They have some limited parking which is useful. The fresh spring rolls were good too. I am in love with the Thai tea here. It is thick and creamy. I love the taste of it. I love how creamy it was. You can honestly add ice cream and it still taste yummy. The spicy chicken wings wasnt spicy. It just had herb/ pepper flakes to it. Nothing special about it. The pho was good, not too beefy, but it could be better. The bun bu hue was very shrimp paste based. It was good for the first few bites, but the shrimp paste gets stronger. The service was ok, i was super thirsty, they didnt serve water very often. Amazing food. I want to give a fifth star but can not with the environmental impact of to go. But horrified to see styrofoam in use for take-out. No one has used styrofoam in a decade. It is made out of petroleum. It is (factually) poisonous. It takes forever to biodegrade. It is ancient history. Please change to paper take-out containers. There are a number of options these days. Decided to check out this place out for their pho because they're open a little later than most places that serves pho in the Twin Cities (most pho places close at 8pm). Got here around 7pm, plenty of parking and overall the place is spacious. My friend and ordered pho #48 each, a strawberry bubble tea, and fried dumplings to share. Although the pho looked great and I really liked the tendons in the pho- I felt the broth was watery- I ended up adding a lot of fish sauce and other condiments to make up for it. As for the dumplings- I think they're packaged frozen dumplings, I don't mind frozen but I did wish they would be made in house. The bubble tea was very good and perfect- milky and blended nicely. Overall service was okay- after ordering our waiter only came once to refill water which I'm cool with. I did like how they didn't come by often. Even so it was a bit pricey and I felt the food felt short, I would still come back to try their banhmi and other dishes though because it definitely gives me a good mom & pop type of feel and I love that the most about local restaurants. read more

I LOVE the banh mi from Pho Pasteur; it's one of my favorites in the Cities. My husband & I walk over for lunch & grab sandwiches to go: --Banh Mi Tofu: French bread with fried tofu & vegetables --Banh Mi Thit: French bread with pork & vegetables The sauce coating the fried tofu is 10/10; add mayo & pickled veggies & I'm THERE! My husband gets the pork version, which he also agrees is super tasty. We do have a couple of complaints, though: --The meat sandwiches are always sitting on the counter in a room temperature plastic box. They make the tofu sandwich fresh, but it does seem like there could be some health issues with the sandwiches being stored at room temp. --The cilantro includes the whole stem. It's a minor complaint, but it's annoying to have the entire stem pull out when you take a bite. --The woman who's usually at the counter is often short & pushy in her responses (i.e., "What do you want? Hello? Hello?"); that's a bit of a turn-off. I've gotten the Vietnamese coffee here a couple of times & it's really good; the coffee is bold & tasty, with the right amount of sweetness. We came here for dinner one or two times & ate in, trying some of the noodle dishes & pho. They were okay! Definitely not the best I've had, but decent. With everything said, I still would give this place a 4/5 purely because I love their tofu banh mi & Vietnamese coffee so much. In all, I'd recommend ordering banh mi for takeout :) read more

Every time I go, they're always packed but it's makes sense due to how good the food is. People go for their Pho but I'm not much of a Pho person. I ordered the chicken pad thai and the flavors were definitely noticeable. It isn't the best but it's pretty darn good. The service is super quick. We ordered take out this time, and they had everything ready within 15 minutes to pick up. It's never too busy inside, and there isn't any crazy decorations. LOCATION: located right off of the busy street of Snelling it's nice because they have a small parking lot. Inside there's booths or tables you can sit at if you are eating in. FOOD: We ordered the number 44 pho which has a ton of flavor and freshness to it. Broth was super hot even to go, so it was perfect right when we got home. I have been to Pho Pasteur VN a few times, and I always say I wish this restaurant was open back when I went to Hamline. It's a short walk for college students down the street, and I know I would have been a regular customer here back in the day. If you're looking for authentic Vietnamese cuisine, search no further. Pho Pasteur has everything from banh mi to vermicelli noodle salad to different types of soup (yes, not just pho y'all). I really enjoy their banh mi here. The first time I had one, I was so surprised at how massive they are. The loaf is a big boy, and it comes with Vietnamese mayo, pate, and fresh pickled veggies. I think they have one of the best and most underrated banh mi in the Twin Cities. I also like their Vietnamese iced coffee here. Strong and delicious. It's been pretty busy each time I've visited Pho Pasteur, but the owner here is so sweet. I have seen her visiting with customers dining in, and it seems like she has many patrons that come back time and time again. They seem to know her, and have nothing but wonderful things to say about the food. If you're getting takeout, be patient as there is sometimes a line. They're generally quick about getting you your order, but it's a small family business, so they only have a couple of people working here. Next time I'm out in St. Paul, I plan to try one of their Vietnamese soups and a smoothie. It can sometimes be difficult to find mock duck in Asian restaurants, especially prepared well, but I am always satisfied with the mock duck lo mien here. The veggie spring rolls have a good peanut sauce but the roll itself has way too much shredded lettuce that kind of overwhelms the flavor of the few pieces of tofu. read more

The service was good, we got seated quickly, ordered in a reasonable amount of time and got our food very quick. We got lots of food! My friend ordered the pho and the cream cheese wontons and I ordered the Banh Mi and the chicken spring rolls. Everything was very reasonably priced. The most expensive thing we ordered was the pho and it was $12.50. My friend really enjoyed the pho and it had a really great unique flavor. We split the cream cheese wontons and the spring rolls. I personally love both of these dishes. They were both good but could've use a little something. However, I thought the sauce each dish came with was superb. I have loved Banh Mi for a long time so maybe I am a little biased about this type of meal. Overall, the sandwich was good! However, if you have issues with meat this dish is not for you. My sister and I arrived at an awkward time, in-between lunch and dinner so the place was pretty empty. I ordered the pork vermecelli with eggroll and my sister, the veggie pho. My vermecelli was okay, I've had better a other Vietnamese restaurants in MN. The egg roll was pretty oily but it was crispy so that was nice! The pork I could tell had red food coloring on it and was a little chewy. The veggies they had seem to come straight from a spring mix salad bag, which was interesting because never really seen that before. Service was good, however, not great despite the empty restaurant.
