In my reviews of suburban Pho places, I always add a caveat that, hey, it's the suburbs, so chill and adjust your expectations. This is Blaine, and not Frogtown or Eat Street. Well, Red Kitchen completely destroys that narrative. First of all, I was here in a Monday lunch hour, and for the entire time there were exactly 3 non-Asians who walked in. One of them was married to an Asian guy, so she kinda didn't count. The entire place is packed with Asians. I don't even know how they pulled it off, sitting next to freaking Wild Bills off Hwy 65. But here we are. Once you hear about the food you'll know why. And BTW please ignore the one star reviews. This place would be at 4.9 stars if you got rid of the LeeAnn Chin and Panda Express crowd who stumbled upon Red Kitchen by accident and were disappointed, as they should be. Because this is an Authentic Asian hole-in-the-wall. Yes they have chicken feet. More to come... The place is small: 2 long tables that seat 10, and 4 tops. There is a tiny counter you walk up to order, and if dining in they bring it out to you. You grab your beverages from the sparsely stocked drink fridge when you order. It's basically a deli that looks like a restaurant, ok? Ambience? It's got painted walls, and the furniture is new...oh there are light fixtures over the four tops....and they play 90's-00's R&B and radio pop. You know, Asian-American Gen X heart music. LOL. Ok. But there is ample off-street parking in the big lot. Now, the food. I ordered the Large Beef Pho, and then I found out they had chicken feet for an appetizer, so naturally I had to order it just for this review. There used to be a stall at the Hmong Mall ran by three old ladies, who slaved and produced a 12-hr broth. I still dream of that place. You'd want to have a pool party in that broth, and swim in it on an inflatable giant rubber ducky with an umbrella drink in your hand. Well, Red Kitchen has somehow recreated that broth. AI maybe? It's not fair for the competition: Pho 126, Stone Pho, Pho An, I'm looking at you. Yep, all these other places are inferior, and more expensive. The large pho is just over $15. No one comes close. Ok now for the chicken feet. It's basically chicken bacon, deep fried, and covered with a lemon cajun dry rub. It reminded me of Shorty and Wag's off 38th and Nicollet, but without the MSG headache that came after. It was an indulgence of insane proportions. I ate the whole thing, by myself lol. So fun. That's kinda like eating a pound of bacon all by yourself. If you're not into feet, you can get the same rub on wings or chunks of pork belly (actual bacon lol). There are other things to try, like Bun Bo Hue and Boat Noodle. They also have Vietnamese rice platters and vermicelli salads. And they do have your American-Chinese section of the menu, but ok. This is a simple spot for savory Vietnamese cuisine. You order at the front desk, seat yourselves and then the food is delivered to your table. They have limited drink selections found in the fridge. Unfortunately, when we were there, they were out of regular soft drinks and had only diet. The restaurant was small with limited seating, so we felt lucky to have a table. The atmosphere wasn't much, but the food was spot on - very flavorful and quite delicious! We had the special pho, the bun bo hue and oyster chicken wings. Everything was super delicious. Smaller space but always busy so you know it's popular. Went on a Sunday afternoon so it was extra packed, including the parking lot so you might not find parking nearby and might have to park further away to get here. They no longer serve the full menu shown on the screen. Food came out at a good pace given the lunch rush and staff remained friendly and accommodating. The pho is the star of this restaurant . The broth is rich and not watered down. Good amount of noodles , little light on meat tho. The noodle salad was good, lots of chicken but it was missing pickled daikon and carrots it just had lettuce onions and I had to ask for fish sauce dressing because they forgot that as well. Sesame chicken was good but not really a sesame chicken it's more garlicky and salty missing sweetness. My kid ate it but wasn't her favorite, I thought it was really good but maybe they should call it garlicky chicken. The chicken fried rice was really good lots of flavor. The service was really off. We came in and they told us to order up front and sit down anywhere . After we ordered they told us wait until they clear back row mean while there was a whole row of tables open in front. This is my family's go-to pho restaurant! The broth is so good and flavorful and I always ask for the oxtail pho or beef ribs pho, so delicious and perfect especially when you're under the weather! I also love the pork belly and shrimp fried rice plus we always get egg rolls for appetizer! One of my go to spots for good pho broth to cure my hangover. I wish it was a little closer to the city so that I don't need to drive out too far, but worth the drive every time regardless. The special pho is good and is a good balance between salty and sweet and hits just right for me. The bun bo hue (BBH) also has a good broth and adding some spice to it makes it really good too. I'm also a fan of their sesame chicken. The sesame chicken usually comes out crispy even with the sauce on it and I really like it. I once compared it to and thought it was more of a boneless korean fried chicken. Lastly, I'm also a pretty big fan of their chicken feet. It's not for everyone, but I always make sure to get this here no matter what since you won't really find good fried chicken feet elsewhere. Again, great place for pho. Definitely recommend if you need your pho fix. The restaurant is on the small side and can get busy when big groups come through so I think they should expand at some point and possibly move closer to the city. read more

This is the real deal. This food is what you would get in Asia. The restaurant was full of happy Asians eating their pho out of their huge metal bowls. The Beef with Broccoli they gave me was pho, soupy, with well-cooked broccoli, and most importantly, real beef. Not the weird bumpy processed junk the other restaurants give you. But cleanly sliced real beef, like my grandmother used to serve in 1974. The egg rolls are also the longest I have ever seen in my life, about 8" long. This is one of our usual restaurants to go to. We love their lemon pepper Cajun dry rub. They put it on the pork belly, pork feet, and chicken feet. Their pho is pretty good, we usually order the fried rice and eggrolls to go whenever we stop by for quick lunch. Restaurant has 10+ tables, 1 server in the front. Large parking area to dine in. The seating area is pretty large as well, but wouldn't suggest for a bigger party than 6. Service was quick and easy, the owner that was assisting me was very kind and walked me through ordering. Food was delicious- I've seen many reviews on the pho and it definitely mets my standards. Haven't been here in a while and I was stoked to go back. They've expanded their menu and the fried pork belly is to die for!! Their appetizers were as delicious as before! Could always eat more egg rolls and cream cheese wontons! This restaurant is ran by husband and wife and they do their best to make all their customers happy. In a day like today we should always be grateful for the ones working and serving us. Nice little place with some tables inside for dine in. Lots of parking space with a lot of things to do around the area. Lastly, their chili oil is a MUST BUY!!! Heard their pho was good, so I'm going in to review. The food menu was kind of sporadic. I was hoping for some spring roll. Obviously they did not have it. Had three of us went so we can all discuss about the foods to avoid bias. Pho was okay, not all that. Broth is pretty simple and the taste seems like it's missing an ingredient. (like the fatness tase from the bone marrow.). The meat portions was OK. It could use some more of other variety cuts and there's not much tendons because it was thinly slice and I think there's two small pieces . We ordered the pork belly and it was fried to a good crisp but lacked flavor, it's not fully there. Service was OK and when we went there's not very many customers so we did wait a bit for our food but imagine during a busy hours you might have to wait longer. It is a small, but very cute restaurant. You order at the register and food is brought out to you. I ordered cream cheese wontons and the Pho. My friend got the egg roll noodle salad. The inside of the place is a little small, cozy and aesthetic, but it is perfect for the size of the place. The food taste amazing! The oysters chicken wing was delicious and flavorful. It can get messy but you will love the wings. The beef pho.... The broth is great, very beefy and not oily. The broth makes you want to just eat it plain, however adding garments and the special chilling oil is a plus. You'll find the typical condiments you'd expect in a Vietnamese restaurant. My friend ordered the famed beef Pho, and raved about it! I tried the broth before she dug in and can't wait to go back! I had my current crave, Hot and Spicy chicken, and it did not disappoint! The flavor was well balanced with the spice, chicken was PERFECTLY cooked, and I think there's nothing on their menu I would refuse! Ordered for pickup today from here. When I got there, no one was in the front, but there was a table for pickup so I just grabbed my order. Eggrolls - Actually pretty good flavor. Good amount of meat, veggies and noodles. It was also a nice size. Bun Bo Hue - my bf ordered this to try. They gave pork hock and a blood cube in the broth. Everything was bagged up separately which was nice. The flavor ended up being a bit bland for my bf. He said it was better after adding the chili oil. Lemon Chicken Rice Platter - the flavor of the chicken skin was so delicious, however, due to the size of the chicken, it was underdone (see photos). This Place is Not Recommended: First of all, I'm not often motivated to write food reviews either positive or negative. I just felt that I needed to share the disappointment we had in our meal tonight. I must admit my first impressions of our encounter were very positive. The restaurant inside was very clean and nice and very welcoming. I felt comfortable inside. As I waited for the takeout order. The lady in the front was very nice and the service was fast and prompt. This my fellow foodies is where the pleasantries ended. We ordered Beef Lomein, General Tso Chicken, Sesame Chicken, chicken fried rice, and the Vietnamese crispy eggroll. After we got home the first thing we noticed as we opened the lids on these food containers was the pungent order of way too much garlic. It was permeated in every dish, even the sesame chicken and I've never had sesame chicken that had garlic in the sauce. Every dish we ate was so loaded with garlic that everything tasted the same. No authentic of distinguishing tastes in any of these dishes. We love garlic in our food, but this was too much, and not only that is it tasted like the garlic you would scoop out of a jar. Not fresh at all. The Beef Lowmein. Noodles were thick, chewey, lacking any real wok or stir fry taste. Just gummy no flavor. Had to doctor them up with some sauces we have at home. The beef, dry and flavorless, reminded us of pieces of steakum. Was there any Asian spices or flavorings put in these noodles? we couldn't find them. Fried Rice basically had zero color, because there wasn't any flavor in it. Again had to add flavorings at home. It looked like plain white rice that was slightly dirty. Only thing we could taste was garlic in it, then again everything was so swimming in it, we can't be certain if it was from the rice or the other things on our plate finding its way in Both the Sesame Chicken and General Tso. As mentioned earlier, way too much garlic. Sauce not sweet enough, and really no crispiness on the batter. I will add the chicken at least was tender. Overall these two dishes tasted like they came out of a frozen section of the grocery store from a box, microwaved and put in a to go box, and not from the top shelf. Eggrolls. they were really the only thing slightly edible in this meal, but they are very greasy, and once they cool slightly they become just a soggy vessel of pure grease taste. Time to change that oil!! Oh the best thing on the meal was the eggroll dipping sauce. At least we have a big container of plain white rice that we can throw it the wok tomorrow and make a batch of home made fried rice. For a meal that cost over 70.00 and had basically the taste of an off brand frozen Asian meal it was a major shock to the wallet, especially when there wasn't anything that tasted all that great. This is a favorite hidden gem (which makes me not want to tell the world about it... it'll get too crowded!)... the location is small so seating is limited. Don't let that or uncleared tables deter you though... it's actually a wise strategy the owner is using for their limited seating. Order first, then she'll clear and clean a table for you and your party to have a seat. She may be busy busting her butt for her guests but she's always kind. They serve the best fresh squeezed lemonade made with organic sugar. They also have one of the best (if not THE best BBH) in the Cities. Everything is excellent though. read more

We had heard mixed reviews from people we know, so decided to try it ourselves. We had cream cheese wontons that were good, but that's about it. The egg rolls were good, but they way overcooked. They were past golden brown and just about black. We also had sweet a sour chicken. The batter was good, the sauce was good and the chicken was really dry. Chicken fried rice got thrown out. The lomein was pretty tasteless. This place just didn't make it for me. I would say try it and decide for yourselves, but personally I wouldn't waist your money. Sorry Red Kitchen. Was recommended this place by a friend and wouldn't have regretted it. It was a great first experience and food was amazing. The oyster wings are it's sweet and still have that crunch after being tossed in the sauce. Fried was pretty good. The pho is pretty decent, the bowl size isn't as big but the broth is good, like drink it to the bottom good. Definitely would recommend this place. Classic Vietnamese cuisine with some of the best pho north of Minneapolis. They have a very loyal following of Vietnamese residents in the area but are well known among non-Vietnamese for the quality of dishes they serve. I tried Red kitchen after tanning a few weeks ago, had their egg rolls with fish sauce, they were very good. Stopped in there tonight to order some dinner to take out. There was one gentleman eating and another waiting for his food. I rang the bell as the sign says for help and waited a few minutes, a woman came out and said she would help me shortly, I had a seat and waited maybe 3 -4 more minutes, she brought out the gentleman's food, answered the phone for another take out order then another man walked in the door and went right up to her to order, she recognized him as a regular and said to him, you always know what you want don't you and took his order. I got up looked at her and said this is wrong, she covered her face and I walked out the door. Guess the regular clients get priority service here. I left sad as I was looking forward to trying some other foods there. But I felt that was just rude. Unsure if I will go back. read more
