Casual, tasty Vietnamese spot with a great combo plate…read more Dan Da was one of my first times having Vietnamese cuisine, or at least the first time I can recall, and it was tasty. The inside is very casual, and the menu is great. My fiancée and I split the chilled spring rolls with shrimp. Two come in an order, and they were a good size. They're a classic spring roll served with peanut dipping sauce on the side. We also shared the combination rice plate, which was a great way to sample several items from the menu. It comes with chicken, pork, beef, and shrimp. My favorites, in order, were the chicken, the shrimp, the beef, and lastly the pork chop. I was surprised the chicken ended up on top, but it was very tasty. It also comes with an egg roll cut into several pieces, which makes it a great dish to share. One person in our group ordered the shaken beef signature dish, and the beef was very yummy. Would highly recommend this place. I'm looking forward to coming back.

A true hidden gem - do not miss this place!…read more This Vietnamese restaurant is one of those spots you hope stays a local secret forever, but it's just too good not to share. The food, portions, flavors, and overall experience are absolutely outstanding. First - you cannot leave without trying the homemade ginger ale. I have no idea what magic they put into it, but it is truly out of this world. It's unique, refreshing, and easily one of the most memorable drinks I've had at a restaurant. The pho is consistently delicious - packed with incredible flavor. The sesame chicken is another standout, but honestly, the curries are where this place really shines. My friend said the lamb curry was one of the best things he has ever eaten, and I completely understand why. The curries come out piping hot and overflowing- literally. The atmosphere is just as special as the food. The inside has such a great vibe - cozy, welcoming, and full of character. They also have the cutest little patio that feels like a hidden oasis with all the greenery and homey touches. The management and staff are phenomenal. They are always friendly, attentive, and genuinely care about your experience. They constantly check in and somehow always seem to surprise you with something extra. You can tell this place is run by people who truly love what they do. We've done both takeout and dine-in, and the quality never changes. Everything is fresh, flavorful, and made with care. They also have great vegan options, so there really is something for everyone. They are connected with the same ownership/management as Golden Bánh Mì next door, which is also incredible - clearly there is a passion for creating amazing food and experiences.

However, the staff was extremely accommodating and did a great job making sure everyone was taken care of. Even though the restaurant was busy and our group was much larger than the average party, they still provided great service and were very patient with us. I really appreciated how much effort they put into making the experience enjoyable for everyone. The food was also very tasty. I ordered the sesame chicken, and it had the perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. The sauce had just the right amount of sweetness without being overwhelming, and the chicken had a really good crunch to it. It was exactly what I was hoping for and definitely one of the highlights of my meal. Everything else that I tried was enjoyable as well, and overall, I was impressed with the quality of the food. My biggest complaint was more about the layout of the restaurant than the food or service. Because we had such a large group, there really weren't many spaces available that could accommodate everyone together. We ended up having to sit at five separate tables, which was a little inconvenient when we were trying to celebrate a birthday as a group. I completely understand that the staff was working with the space they had, and I really appreciate that they did everything they could to accommodate us. It just would have been nice if there were a larger seating area where big parties could sit together. I think a remodel or some type of redesign of the dining area could really benefit the restaurant, especially if they frequently have larger parties. Creating a designated space for bigger groups would make the experience much more convenient and would allow families and large groups to actually sit together and enjoy their meals. Overall, though, we had a great experience. The staff was incredibly accommodating, the food was delicious, and they did a great job handling our large group despite how busy they were. The seating situation was definitely the only downside, and I think that could be improved with a little more space or a remodel. I would still come back, especially for the food and the excellent service!

It was super messy to eat and impossible to share- next time I am getting my own. We also had the pandan coconut cupcake, which was good but not as exciting as the cruffin. There were none in the case and they're no longer mentioned on the Web site. Alas. However, there were lots of interesting items on display. I selected a Strawberry Croissant, a Chocolate Cupcake, and one of the cake cups: Ube Tres Leches Milk Cake. I'd never seen anything like that last item before. The strawberry croissant is filled with fresh strawberries and vanilla cream. I was worried that it might be soggy, but it was crispy, flaky and very tasty. The frosting on the cupcake was chocolate-flavored chantilly cream. This was heavenly. Absolutely perfect. I never contemplated ube plus tres leches. There is a traditional Vietnamese version (ha, you Latin purists!) that uses the flavors of Vietnamese iced coffee, but ube is a new approach. The number of different cultures involved here is making my head spin, but the result was delightful, of course. A mini cake in a paper ice cream cup is also a great idea. More substantial and easier to eat than a cupcake, but still a good snack for one person. Service was prompt, friendly, and helpful. The business faces Colfax Avenue. There's street parking plus a large, free parking lot behind the building. There are a number of tables if you can't wait to get your purchases home and a variety of drinks including Vietnamese coffee, a full espresso bar, tea, and lemonade. Bánh mi and other breakfast and lunch sandwiches are available plus rice bowls. I really enjoyed my purchases. The food is good and priced well but the reason for this low rating is due to their dishonesty. I thought perhaps this was a one-off situation but I read another reviewer years ago experiencing the same thing. We were planning to pay and apparently, the 20% "gratuity" was already added for our family of 5. Then the server proceeds to ask how much we would like to tip on the screen, but something didn't add up. The total amount seemed like it was way above it should be including the tip and when we requested a printed receipt, another server had to come by. It felt like the older gentlemen was trying to double-dip by telling us that the tip wasn't added but clearly there was a gratuity already there. No apology or anything. We didn't even add the gratuity and it looks like the server automatically added it to our bill without us knowing. We didn't want to have any other issues so we just left paying for the 20% gratuity and decided that we won't be going there anymore. It makes me sad since this was our solid Pho spot in Denver but I cannot support an establishment that is dishonest. It only makes me wonder how many other customers they had done this to and if anyone else has caught them. I get it, cause often times, I don't even check the bill so I would say beware if you do go here. Look at your ITEMIZED receipt and check what you ordered.

The pho is decent, the broth is warm, the noodles are doing what noodles are supposed to do, and the overall experience is perfectly respectable. Nothing happened that made me reconsider my place in the universe, but nothing happened that made me question my decision to leave the house either. The portions are solid. The flavors are there. The service was perfectly pleasant. Would I write a novel about it? No. Would I eat here again? Yeah, probably. It's the kind of place where you finish your meal and think, "That was pretty good," and then you're back on your phone five minutes later. But toward the end of the meal, I started thinking about Oliver's Italian. I don't know why. Maybe my brain was trying to establish a baseline for what "okay" actually means. Because Pho Minh Havana is okay. Oliver's Italian is where you start wondering whether "okay" was ever actually part of the conversation. At Pho Minh Havana, I ate my meal and went about my day. At Oliver's, I ate my meal and began conducting an internal audit. At Pho Minh Havana, the table was clean. That sentence alone puts it several rounds ahead of Oliver's. The experience at Oliver's has the peculiar energy of eating dinner in a room where someone just moved a couch five minutes ago and nobody bothered to vacuum underneath it. Pho Minh Havana doesn't even need to participate in this comparison. It simply watches from across the street while Oliver's allegedly acquires a bottle of wine from King Soopers, places it somewhere slightly darker for six hours, and then introduces it to the table like it has just returned from a vineyard in Tuscany. "Tonight, we have something special." Brother, that bottle has a yellow sale sticker on the back. Anyway. Pho Minh Havana: perfectly fine. Oliver's Italian: a fascinating anthropological experience. Pho Minh Havana gets three stars because I ate my food, enjoyed most of it, and left happy. Oliver's gets 1 star because apparently Yelp won't let me give a restaurant 0 star for making me emotionally reconsider pasta? This is just an FYI for all restaurant goers. Would return to Pho Minh Havana. Would return to Oliver's too, but only if someone needs me to gather evidence. Then return to testify.
