Pork noodle bowl with Com Cha Gio / Egg Rolls
    Sheryl S.

Stopped in last night because... when you need a noodle bowl... you need a noodle bowl. I ordered the pork noodle bowl with a crispy egg roll.... so so yummy! It satisfied my hankering and then some. Pho Saigon is certainly unassuming in a small strip mall off Arapahoe road, but there food is just amazing!

Came out for a solo lunch and ordered iced coffee, egg rolls and pho (my typical go to order when trying a new Vietnamese restaurant). The egg rolls are delish. I love it when it's served with ingredients you can make a wrap with. That alone would have been a satisfying meal. But I was hungry and ordered a large bowl of their special combo (which included rare beef, well done brisket, flank, tendon, and tripe). The bowl was huuuge, I was so excited to dig in. Unfortunately, the broth wasn't great. I did quite a few work to get it to be somewhat flavorful with just the sriracha and hoisin sauce and the other garnishes. Though I think what was more upsetting was the tendons and tripe were not tender. It was super rubbery and the cuts didn't seem right. So I couldn't finish the large bowl of pho. It was also then did I get the ice coffee which I ended up just taking it to go. Coffee was delicious. I would come back to try their other dishes outside of pho. But I don't think I'll be coming here for my pho cravings.

The chicken Pho was delicious!!! Vibrant flavors with each slurp. The staff was extremely friendly and had impressive attention to detail. The location is large and open, very inviting and appropriately festive. We were provided with all the amenities you expect including a couch in the bathroom - useful for getting away from the in laws.

Automatic 20% gratuity without giving us a heads up. And service wasn't that great either.

Pho Saigon was a roomy place and we were seated fairly quickly for an early weekend dinner. Despite football being on the tvs, it was quiet enough for the family to enjoy. The pho bowls and cream cheese wontons were great, and while the service was a bit slow, I couldn't blame them if they had to prep multiple orders for a table of 4 adults and 1 infant. A thumbs down however to the rice plates being cold. However, what most caught me by surprise was when getting up to pay at the counter, the server swiped the credit card I handed him and when I was ready to add a tip and sign, he said we were good to go--only to include a 20% tip/gratuity off the total check without informing us. Not cool. Keep an eye on your check before you pay when closing out. But I don't think I'll be coming back here again because of that.

I think this place was glorious at one point. It needs a face lift before bringing forth an ambiance, but don't let that stop you because the food is definitely banging. The service will get better with a new decor.

If you want the best pho in town - give Pho Saigon a try! It is ALWAYS good and they have a pretty broad menu if you would like to try other Vietnamese dishes. I like the P2 Steak Pho and you have to try the Coconut water - it's so refreshing and delicious. The restaurant is in a strip mall and parking can be a little difficult especially on the weekends, but it's so worth it. The staff is really friendly and super helpful especially if it is your first time trying it. If you are a Pho lover (or just hungry), you have to give this place a try!

Canh Ga Chua Ngot / Vietnamese Style Chicken Wings

I love to eat pho with a good broth. Usually the best time to go get pho is during lunch time. Sadly, some place exceed and some place doesnt. Let start off with the chicken wings. So the chicken wings was over fry. It didnt have any juice and it was flavorless. It just taste like chicken fry in oil. No seasoning. Pho was super water down. It had a good portion for meat and noodles, but the broth isnt the best. Again, like I mentioned lunch is the best because it fresh pho broth, but sadly they must had added the water to the pot too early. The spring roll was good, i rather make my own sauce . The sauce was ok, it was still to much peanut taste. Also, the rice paper got too hard to chew. The last meal i got was the vermicelli noodle with chicken, pork and eggroll. It is actually really good and fulfilling. I enjoy that meal a lot. I would give it a four, but the services wasnt there and we waited so long to order. Also, the food deduct the star as well.

Well that's how I felt this morning, so VinaMeals was where I ended. I ordered two items, so join me and read my food journey... Just had bánh ít tràn, a Vietnamese, steamed sticky rice dumplings dish. This dish reminds me of my mom's cooking where she used to make us this dish all the time to eat for breakfast. Lots ingredients inside the these three dumplings including mung bean, wood ear mushroom, jicama carrot, onion, garlic, minced with pork and shrimp. It came with steamed bean sprouts, cucumber, and fish sauce to dip the dumplings or just pour over the dish. I felt the accommodating items didn't add any value to this dish, but boy, did these dumplings bring back good memory. Of course, when you are here, you have to get their small wonton soup. It is one of the best I have ever eaten. I believe the broth that is the star, and the wontons come very close but just a second too late. This small soup is very filling, and I always wonder if adding a bowl of plain rice into the soup will make this dish a complete meal. We will have to find out later. As I am sitting here writing this review, I am truly enjoying the atmosphere. Listening to the music over my head, I am sing a little bit too loud, louder than mouthing the words. My head is moving from side to side, and my feet are tapping. I found my happiness here even though we leapt/spring one hour ahead earlier today.

We got to try their lunch/brunch menu and it was THE BEST chicken and waffles of my life. The menu is limited in the number of items but they are all over the map (in a *good* way -- really something for everyone). We ordered a Bahn Xeo crepe (not quite our bag, texture-wise). My wife ordered the Noodle Bowl (enjoyed tremendously). I ordered "Grandma's Meatloaf," which was actually tasty, if a bit crumbly, meatloaf, using noodles as the binding/moisture agent. They have very imaginative and tasty cocktails. SERVICE: Despite a very full house, service was pretty attentive and very pleasant. AMBIANCE: Decor-wise, the place is great -- large fans on the wall, baskets on the ceiling to mask pipes and ducts plus reduce noise levels, nicely attractive, and overall evocative of the Asian motif. The place was very crowded, and the only deuce was right by the door and the cold breeze -- but the staff made us feel welcome and the experience was just what we wanted. NET-NET: We had a fine meal, and enjoyed ourselves. Who could ask for more?
