I've been to this place a few times since they've opened & the first few times I visited were right after they first opened & I had good dining experiences. This pho place is the most popular in Vallejo as it gets really busy with wait periods, especially on weekends. The service was good, the restaurant is very clean, the prices & portions of the food were reasonable, etc. However, after multiple visits, I've noticed some issues with this place. I noticed that they increased all the prices on their menu, the food/drink portions got smaller, food quality declined, & the service is subpar.
I was a bit distraught when I noticed the price increase but I didn't mind too much until I noticed that the food/drink portions got smaller & this wasn't very long after they first opened. Their drinks definitely got smaller from when they first opened & there have been a few times where I've finished my pho & I was still hungry. Usually a small or maybe a medium sometimes, from the other places in the area, is more than enough to get me full but that wasn't the case here. Also, I noticed that their broth was getting excessively greasy which didn't sit well with my stomach after the meals. My boyfriend usually get the pork chop rice plate & at the other pho places, he usually get 2 big pieces while he gets 1 piece here & it's more expensive.
The servers are friendly but there is this one particular waitress that I've had most of the time when I go whom messes up a lot. She is very friendly but doesn't understand English very well so therefore, disregards specific instructions for the orders & is very forgetful about the drink orders. During one of the visits, we specifically asked for no peanuts on the vermicelli, because of my boyfriend's allergy. But it came out with peanuts & when we told her, she looked very confused as if it was the first time she was hearing of it. Time after time, she forgets the drinks even after we remind her several times throughout the meal so it's almost become a norm that we get the drinks at the end of our meal, before we leave. Also, the food comes out pretty slow, even when you order pho, which is a bit odd since each component is pretty much cooked before ordering & then just thrown together after you order.
The main reason I went on my most recent visit was because I saw that they added Bun Bo Hue to their menu & not many places around here serve it. It was alright but far from the best because the quality of the meat was very poor & nearly inedible because it was all fat. The thing that really bothered me on this visit was the plate of toppings that come with ordering pho. The plate of toppings didn't have any herbs like cilantro or basil but rather only a little bit of bean sprouts tucked under tons of the pre packaged, diced cabbage. I was really surprised because I've never been given cabbage to put in pho & it seemed like they were giving it as a cheap alternative for the usual toppings.
Overall, I really appreciate the friendly service & how the nice, clean, modern interior (they have flat screen TV's) of their restaurant. It's pretty much the deciding factor as to why customers choose to come to this place & what sets them apart from the other pho places when people opt for pho. However, I would actually prefer the pho place next to Seafood City although the service isn't quite as friendly & the interior isn't quite as nice. But there's never a wait, the prices are good, the portions are generous & the food/drinks always comes out fast so you'll be in & out. read more
