My friend and I ordered two popular dishes ( salmon & paella) after what seemed like a lengthy wait, our dishes were brought out separately and with an eight minute delay between dishes. I find it rude to eat while the other party is waiting, so I waited. By the time the other plate came out, my meal was getting cold. I could've overlooked this and not written a review, but the paella was over salted which would have shot my blood pressure through the roof. I left more than half of the paella as it was inedible. I came here a couple weeks ago with my girlfriend and tried the steak which had a type of parmesan cream sauce and Chimichurri. Plus a couple sides of the Bacon Wrapped Dates which are undoubtedly the best appetizer here. The steak was perfectly cooked and the sauce was perfect. Overall 10/10 dining experience. Today I ordered the same two items to go, to test To Go etiquette. The dates were fire again. The steak I ordered medium rare, was medium by the time I got home,and the sauce broke. I never order to go from fine dining/casual dining restaurants regularly, I only do it to see how restaurants treat food to go. I noticed a lot of monchego cheese used in at least 1/3rd of their menu. Ordered the bone marrow(Not enough marrow!), grilled octopus, albondigas, bacon wrapped monchego cheese filled dates, and probably another dish but I cannot remember! The best was the dates and grilled octopus!! Octopus was perfectly grilled and tender. I wish there was more! Unfortunately, I was too busy enjoying the ambience and food that I took no photos. Bad me! I'll have to come back again! Service was great. Discovered a malbec that was pretty good! Our party ordered the papatas bravas and croquetas to start, which were absolutely amazing! For our main courses we ordered the chile relleno, Mac and cheese, and the skirt steak. The portions were just right and the taste was incredible. For dessert we had the French toast, which I was a bit skeptical about since I don't really like because the toast is always too soggy. This French toast did not disappoint, the toast was cooked perfectly, still crispy, thick, and not overly sweet. The whole experience was marvelous! Can't wait to go again! I've come here twice now, and my god, it has quickly become my favorite restaurant in the Whittier area. It's difficult to put into words just how great this place is, but I will give it my best. Since this is a tapas restaurant, we've ordered many dishes, and I will try to give a brief review of each dish. Patatas are a must have! They are crispy, with just a slight hint of spice. The sauces are absolutely to die for. I've been looking for a restaurant that does justice to patatas bravas, and I'm unbelievably happy that a local spot has it. Croquetas were really good. They're crispy, filled with flavor, and served with a delicious dipping sauce. Brussels Sprouts were ridiculously good. I never thought I'd compliment a vegetable at a restaurant, but I honestly just could not get enough of these. They were crispy, had depth of flavors that were only enhanced by the lemon. Albóndigas were really good as well, tons of flavor. However, they are served on a slice of bread, and because of the amount of sauce on it, the bread becomes a little chewy and soggy. If ordering, highly recommend either asking for more bread on the side, or asking for the bread to come on the side so you can slop up the sauce because that sauce was delicious! Corn esquite was just okay in my opinion. It had a nice kick, and while there's nothing inherently bad about it, I don't think it was nearly as special as the other dishes. Phlight burger was to die for. Top 5 burgers I've ever had. Super flavorful, meat was soft and tender. It's messy to eat and split as a tapas dish, but worth every single messy drop. Braised short ribs were also amazing. I really can't say enough good things about it. It was packed with flavor, and fork tender. I highly recommend this dish as the main protein, if you're looking for a meat dish with your meal. Paella was amazing. It is a little small, so perfect for 2-3 people, but just as delicious. If you've never had paella, this is a great dish to try. And because it's a smaller portion than at many other Spanish restaurants, it's just enough for you to get a few bites and still have room to try all their other wonderful dishes. Mexican chocolate soufflé was okay. Ours had fallen flat, and turned it to be denser than what I would have thought a soufflé should be. It turned out to be more of a halfway between a soufflé and a cake. While not bad, I think there are definitely better dishes worth ordering for dessert. The banana donuts were godly. They were crispy, hot, had enough of a banana flavor without being overwhelming. 10/10 would recommend, as long as you don't have an aversion to banana. Service is great. It's a small restaurant, but the server that we had both times was super nice to us. She gave great recommendations for food, but in all honesty it's very hard to go wrong here. The restaurant is smaller with limited seating, so definitely expect a wait during the dinner rush. Finally tried Phlight on Valentine's Day! I was not disappointed at all! We got a bit of everything: Mac and Cheese Sautéed Kale Patatas Bravas Meatballs Bread and Butter Steak And wow! I couldn't get enough of it, honestly. My favorite was the Mac and cheese, kale and patatas. The Mac and cheese wasn't too strong in flavor, but the chorizo on it added that extra saltiness. The sautéed Kale was UH-MAZING! I literally kept going back. It was so buttery, and the kale also had some nuts that added a nice texture. The patatas had such good flavor and texture as well! And then we had the meatballs, that were oozzing with flavor. I would definitely recommend the meatballs with plates that aren't as strong in flavor to balance it off. The bread and butter was great. They arent small, but it's fun to trade them around. I got the lobster mashed potatoes, a little bland but hearty amount of lobster! The grilled bread is the best thing ever invented and i'm sorry i shared it LOL. My friends got the meatballs (did not like but i'm not a fan of meatballs so take that as you will), sausage mac n cheese? Not sure it was good though!!!, the ahi tostada (loved that marinade), croquettes (?) did NOT like them cuz they are essentially falafel which i despise. So again take that with a grain of salt cuz if you love falafel these are for you. The croquette thingys came with a DELICIOUS sauce that i ordered extra of and put on my potatoes and yum yum!! Then we got dessert. The mexican choco souffle was just ok but the BANANA DONUTS!!!! Luckily people were full so i got to eat 2 of them. I was hungry and didn't take any photos, sorry.
