The restaurant is clean, bright, and welcoming. We had two whole crabs ginger-and-onion style for only $20, a flavorful catfish clay pot, and a huge bowl of Bun Bo Hue. Everything came to just $55. I don't know if these prices are standard around here, but coming from San Francisco, this felt like an incredible value -- especially those crabs . The staff was also genuinely nice and welcoming. Great food, great value, and a place we'd happily come back to.

I greatly appreciated how they had so much protein. I find a common trend in Vietnamese restaurants that they will skimp on the protein, and in exchange, provide a lot of white rice. To each their own, but I prefer a good balance of both. I haven't tried other dishes, but they have a large menu and I'm curious if their other dishes are just as good. I saw that they make hu tieu kho as a secret menu item that they make and I find that it's pretty rare in Boston, so I'd love to try that one day.

The bread had just the right amount of crunch - a light crisp on the outside without being too hard or too soft. And they definitely didn't skimp on the meat! I also ordered a Vietnamese iced coffee, which was the perfect complement to the banh mi. It was strong and flavorful without being overly sweet. I came around noon on a Friday, and there was a steady line throughout my time there, but it moved quickly. They also offer other dishes, like vermicelli bowls, which looked delicious. I'll have to try that another time! A great spot for banh mi and Vietnamese food. Will definitely be back!

Not knowing this the first time my husband and I visited Boston (in 2021), Dorchester has a large Vietnamese community (funny thing was we were staying at an Airbnb in this city and had no idea). But later on found out when my husband was looking where to eat for lunch. We ended up loving Ba Le Dorchester so much that we came twice during our visit to Boston. Upon these visits, we ended up ordering: Banh Da Lon, $4 prior to tax- I love these layer jello like cakes. This one has flavors of pandan and coconut. It also had the right amount of sweetness too, by not being too sweet. Banh Mi Dac Biet (Special Combination), $7.01 prior to tax- My husband ended up ordering this sandwich twice (on both of our visits). I am not a big banh mi person so I didn't have any but he really liked it. Banh Cuon, $7.95 prior to tax- Rice rolls are one of my favorite things. We ended up ordering 2 different versions of these (on 2 separate visits). One with the ground pork and mushroom filling that also included slices of Vietnamese pork sausage. But on our second visit, we got an order made with shrimp filling. Portion size is more than plenty for 2 people to share and both were cooked perfectly. Goi Cuon, $6.08 prior to tax- Spring rolls is another favorite Vietnamese dish of mine and so I decided to get these that were filled with shrimp. An order of this came with 3 spring rolls and a large side of peanut sauce. After seeing a baking sheet on the wall with Guy Fieri' face, I found out that Guy Fieri visited this eatery with his son for his show Diners Drive Ins and Dives, which aired on November 15, 2024 Service was friendly and quick on both visits. I love that you can grab some premade items before heading to the register but you can also order them to be made fresh at the register. There is a small seating area towards the opposite side of the register. There is also a clean single toilet, unisex, bathroom in this seating area as well. This eatery takes both credit card and cash as payment. Parking is just along the curb. If you aren't able to find parking, you might be able to park around the corner, where we parked the first time we came. Everything that we had was delicious and would come back here again if visiting Boston.

I got an iced latte with almond milk and black sesame cold foam, and the combination was absolutely incredible. The cold foam has the perfect salty touch, with little bits of sesame seeds that add such a unique texture and flavor. It's rich, nutty, slightly savory, and perfectly balanced without needing any extra sweetness. And just to clarify, that beautiful caramel color you see is NOT caramel! It's the espresso shot. I specifically wanted a drink that wasn't too sweet, and this was perfection. My only recommendation? PLEASE, offer bigger cup sizes I would happily buy a large or even an extra large because this drink is THAT good. Staff: incredibly nice + friendly + professional college students!!!

Would rate 5/5 on drinks, 4/5 on food. We got the customer favorite: iced pandan matcha (with oat milk for preference) -- overall: good matcha color & flavor, pandan was not too sweet, ice ratio was good. My bf really enjoyed this one! I also got the Iced Saigonese -- strong viet coffee, still yummy with the sweetness & the foam on top enhanced the creaminess of the drink. We ordered the BBQ Pork Bahn Mi + egg, I would recommend adding the egg for sure! The egg was creamy & runny, giving it extra flavor. However, Bahn mi itself was not particularly special. We actually ordered the egg after tasting the Bahn mi & it was a little dry. Nice location, seating inside & outside but construction was happening outside, so it wasn't as enjoyable. We had went around 1PM on a Wednesday & the seats were filled. Saw some people with computers, with no problem.

We were sat down fairly quickly despite it being very busy, the servers all came across very rude but the food did come out very quickly. I had ordered the Beef Pho and I had asked for it without tripe but they still put it in there anyway.. so after picking out the excess of tripe in the bowl the broth itself was actually very flavorful before I added any Hoisin or Sriracha. The beef was very tender and generously portioned. The bowl itself was huge and enough for both me and my girlfriend to share and still have enough to take home. The spring rolls were very average, not much to say about it there. It's a very cozy family owned style type of place that just makes you feel at home, and makes the food taste even better. Service could use some work and maybe actually writing down orders and modifications could possibly prevent mistakes like mine from happening in the future.

The prices are higher and the portions are smaller compared to other Vietnamese restaurants, but the food was overall good. Most of the Vietnamese restaurants in the Boston/Greater Boston area are typically older. But now the question is, is the food actually worth the higher price tag? I would say yes! Service is on the slow side but food was surprisingly quite all right. These are the dishes we ordered today: - cha gio/fried egg rolls - Banh khot/ crispy shrimp cakes - limeade (x2) - pho tai bo vien / pho with eye round steak + meatballs - grilled beef rice plate - an order of nem nuong on the side Thoughts: Food took a minute to arrive to our table. I'd say it was roughly 20ish minutes. It seemed like their cha gio/fried eggrolls were freshly made to order? They were not greasy and stale like they normally are when ordered at a restaurant (premade). I really liked the egg rolls from here, though it had more wood sear mushroom + vermicelli noodles in it rather than meat for filling. It came with lots of veggies, which I appreciate! Banh khot/crispy shrimp cakes were fire! This dish isn't readily available at most other restaurants so we definitely had to get them to try. They used whole shrimp and I thought that the portion size was great. Normally they are much smaller & use smaller shrimp (at least the ones I've tried at other spots). Great flavor & tasted delish. ***We ended up asking for some fish sauce with peppers, we felt like the nuoc mam they gave us was missing something. Fish sauce w/ peppers was much better! Highly recommend asking for this. *** Limeade: For me, it tasted like lemonade. Sweeter than usual. Not the best. The pho tai bo vien was not bad. The broth is on the lighter side. I was expecting the eye round steak to be the thin, round cut of beef but they actually gave thicker cuts of beef. I enjoyed it & dipped with a mixture of hoisin + sriracha. The grilled beef rice plate was great. Our server suggested to get the beef over the pork rice plate, which we were skeptical at first. From our experience, we avoid ordering grilled beef because it is always made too dry so pork is often the better option. The grilled beef was not dry here & we gave it a thumbs up. Overall, we enjoyed our meal at An Nam. The restaurant is super clean, aesthetically pleasing interior, and fresh + delicious food. Can't ask for more honestly. Would like to see the service improve & it'd be nice if the food could be made a bit quicker but we were pleased with the quality overall... so can't complain haha.
