    Grilled Meat Banh Mi

Tried the grilled pork banh mi and plum pineapple matcha. The banh mi was pretty good and well packed! The matcha was a good balance of the flavors. Inside was a very nice space to sit and work or chat. Service was also kind.

What a lovely Vietnamese café in Somerville! We came here on a Saturday for brunch and were able to order without a wait at the counter (a touchscreen option was also available for ordering) and got our food pretty quickly after ordering as well. We got the special banh mi, the grilled pork banh mi, and the tofu spring rolls. All of these items were delicious! Even though the banh mi looked smaller than we were used to, the portion size definitely was not smaller and we actually enjoyed that it was rolled tightly together. It made for an easier eating experience, as you could actually take bites around the whole thing. The highlight here was the spring rolls, though. The wrapping on the outside was the softest I've ever had. It was fresh, chewy, and soft, as were all the ingredients inside. There was plenty of seating inside and the whole café was clean and cutely decorated for the holidays.

My partner and I got tofu banh mi, special banh mi, and ube coffee - TASTE: 4/5 - solid banh mi! Wish the tofu included pate, so think we enjoyed the special a little more. Only a dollop of ube in the coffee, so didn't taste much of it, but the Vietnamese coffee itself was fire: nice and strong TEXTURE: 5/5 - crisp baguette w fresh veggie fillings PRICE: 4/5 - subtotal came to $27 SERVING SIZE: 4/5 - good portions for a light lunch SERVICE: 4/5 - walked in at 1:30pm on a Saturday and only a few parties were there. Ordered at the counter and our food was ready in less than 10min ATMOSPHERE: 4/5 - bigger (deeper) space than we expected w cozy touches of decor and plants PARKING: 4/5 - got a free street spot right on Broadway

The special Banh mi (cold cut) was pretty good -- the meats was flavorful Matcha latte was a little too watered down -- could use more flavor / sweetness, definitely needed more matcha Egg coffee was an interesting texture. It's almost like they didn't finish whisking the egg into foam. It was very yolky -- not a fan. It's right near the new green line at Ball Square. I'd come back for different banh mi. There's a lot of seating inside, especially the back area.

I was excited to try out Pound House and wasn't disappointed. I ordered the salted matcha latte with oat milk and regular sweetness and it was delicious. The space itself is pretty big and it was almost empty when I came. There are seats and tables for lounging as well as for working. There is also one bathroom in the back. I would definitely come back!

Clean, spacious space. I would say their drinks are the best, i recommend the iced coconut coffee. About the food, i wish the bread for the banh mi was a but warmer, it was cold when I had it. The staff is nice and attentive. Great spot for Somerville!

Really unique drink menu! I got a pineapple plum matcha which tasted perfectly sweet with a bit of acidity. The coconut coffee ratio was a little off, consisted mostly of coconut slush with coffee poured on top. Pretty thick which I enjoy, but the small straws made it a little difficult to drink. Service was good, and the interior is very cute. There was a decent amount of seating with students doing work.

Went here for a remote work day and it was perfection! Super cute and simple vibe inside. I got the Vietnamese coffee and it was soooo good, and strong!! The grilled pork banh mi was also so so delicious. I'm excited to try some of the other options next time like the egg coffee or spring rolls!!

I love Vietnamese coffee so I was really excited when something opened close by. Unfortunately, the coffee did not live up to my expectations. The egg coffee barely had any coffee with the drink so it was like drinking just sweet milky foam

BOGO special going on until tomorrow morning! Authentic Viet Coffee Shop that opened recently. Highly recommend their Viet Coffee. It was strong and effective and honestly a great start to my day. Their matcha is worth trying but it was a little bitter for me! Staff were so friendly!

I came here during their soft opening, and as a Vietnamese person, I am impressed by their Vietnamese coffee. First of all, I really liked the interior of the place. It was very aesthetic, and there was a good amount of seating and a really big table out in front. However, I wish there were more chairs or tables in the shop for people who would like to sit and study. Second of all, I really liked their customer service. I felt that the staff were really friendly and knew what they were talking about. However, one constructive feedback I have is that they should put all the finished orders in one spot. Some of the orders were on the table, some were on the high counter. It makes it hard for customers to see/know when their order was done. I waited for 15 minutes for one of my coffee not realizing it had already come out, but they placed it on a corner counter... I ordered three different types of coffee: the Vietnamese coffee, the ube coffee, and the salted coffee. The Vietnamese coffee was a classic. It was what Vietnamese coffee should taste like: sweet, strong, and flavorful. The ube coffee was my least favorite. They used real ube, which isn't a bad thing, but I didn't like the mashed, chunky potato consistency in my drink. I would not order that again--I wish that the menu included descriptions of the drinks, because if I had known there were chunks of ube yam in my coffee, I wouldn't have ordered it. I prefer an ube extract foam in my Ube coffee... it has a much more vibrant color and tasted better than mashed potato coffee.. I had to chew and drink coffee at the same time, which was an odd experience. The salted coffee was good. It was a Vietnamese coffee base with a sea salt foam on top, which complemented the drink because it was both sweet and salty. I tried to order the egg coffee, but they only served it hot, which was very weird. I wish they also offered an iced option. They are missing out on that. Overall, Pound House Vietnamese Coffee was a pretty good coffee place. But this place seems new, and I hope they can take my feedback into consideration to make this place better.

So excited to have this Vietnamese coffee near me! I've tried the egg coffee and the Vietnamese coffee and both are delicious! They both kept me highly caffeinated through the work day. Can't wait to try their food items too.

Service was friendly and helpful, we got everything we needed and within a reasonable time. For appetizers we ordered the banh khot which were tasty and crispy, the shrimp tasted fresh. For entrees the table shared the signature fine vermicelli platter. The menu stated that the proteins are the chef's choice and the server mentioned that portions were enough for 3-4 people. The meat included in the platter were all deliciously flavored and cooked nicely. It came with fresh lettuce and herbs to pair with the meat. Our table also ordered a clay pot catfish which was caramelized in a tasty sauce that paired perfectly with the plain white rice. Overall, this is a good place for a meal with family or friends. The seating is comfortable and the restaurant interior is clean and nicely decorated.

Vietnamese cuisine is traditionally rooted in affordability, sharing an abundance of food, and enjoying good laughs with great company. By trying to force the concept into a high-end parallel, it just ends up feeling mediocre and hollow. The value simply isn't there--a single appetizer, one main entree, and three refreshments came out to a whopping $105. To make matters worse, the service was incredibly judgmental. Because our party of three only ordered that amount, the staff pretty much ignored us for the rest of the night after taking the order. The awkwardness started the absolute second we sat down. Before we could even settle into our chairs or get handed a menu, the waiter demanded to know what we wanted to drink. When we asked to see a menu first, he looked completely confused as to why we'd need one. After another staff member finally took our order, we sat there waiting for what felt like an eternity. When the food eventually arrived, they gave us sharing plates and chopsticks. We asked for a spoon to properly eat the claypot rice, and the waiter gave us another judging look. As Asians, we obviously know how to use chopsticks, but you objectively need a spoon to scoop the claypot SAUCE out of the pot! While the food itself is decent, the cramped atmosphere, poor hospitality, and inflated price tag mean I won't be rushing back. I might grab take out for the dumpling platter and cat fish rice pot but definitely not sitting in again.

The restaurant had a really great ambiance, and I enjoyed being able to watch the chefs prepare the food. We ordered the ginger cabbage salad, the coconut eggplant, and the duck noodles. I would have loved to have tried their sushi grade salmon, but they were unfortunately sold out for the night. So I would recommend arriving earlier if you would like to try it. My favorite dish was the duck noodles. I liked the freshness of the basil in the pesto, and the tenderness and juiciness of the duck. The coconut eggplant was a close second favorite. The coconut flavor was delicious, and I liked the nuts on top for crunch. I also found the ginger cabbage salad to be yummy, but not as much as a standout as the other two dishes. Overall, I really enjoyed this spot for dinner. I liked how fresh everything was, and how the dishes felt very light and healthy. It's definitely a bit on the pricier side, but I found it to be very worth it. I definitely come back and try their lattes and other dishes.

The ones from Banh Mi Cafe are enormous, sooo fresh, and exactly what I wish mine tasted like. Both the fish sauce and the peanut sauce are excellent, and when I need to bring something to a summer potluck but don't have time to cook, I just order six orders of spring rolls and suddenly everyone at the potluck is happy. Their Vietnamese iced coffee is also absolute jet fuel. It's my go-to whenever I need to work a late night. But the reason I'll always be loyal to Banh Mi Café has nothing to do with the food. ::IT'S STORYTIME:: One evening I developed an absolutely irrational craving for their avocado smoothie with boba. I spent the whole day thinking about it, finally placed an online order, and then got a phone call saying they had just run out. They apologized and offered a replacement or a refund. Instead, I asked them a weird question: "I know this is kind of crazy...but if you'll have avocado again on Saturday, could you just make this exact order then instead, and I'll come pick it up?" To my surprise, they said yes. A couple of days later, I picked up my avocado smoothie, my fresh spring rolls, and went home happy. Maybe it was more work than it was worth for the employee, maybe it wasn't; either way, they took an odd request seriously, and that's the kind of customer service that sticks with you. Beyond the spring rolls, I've also really enjoyed the nem chua, the cold cut banh mi (I wish the bread were a little softer, but the condiments and veggies are excellent), and the grilled beef wrapped in betel leaves, which I hadn't tried before and now LOVE. I still have a growing list of desserts to work through, including the flan. One thing to know before you go, regarding ambiance: this is more of a grab-and-go spot, not somewhere to settle in for lunch. There are only a few bar seats, so I almost always take my food with me, sometimes to the nearby park. There are plenty of Vietnamese restaurants around Boston, and while I'll always happily try new ones, Banh Mi Cafe has earned my loyalty, one avocado smoothie at a time.
