If you crave "nourishing," "satisfying," and "wholesome" this is the place for you. I've had many, many of their grain bowls over the last 20 years. The grains are so satisfying. This review may be slightly biased as I came straight from Barismo, which is as much a cafe as Olive Garden is an Italian restaurant. This is another saving grace for the chaos that is Cambridge cafes - simple, small, intimate and (gods above) working wifi. Add to this that it has an extensive menu of all kinds of things but the only thing that matters is Udon soup. It's ~$11 (kind of insane when you consider Yume Ga Arukara charges $20) and it's top-notch. It is a bit confusing that this place is all about touting its tea and is just sleeping on its delicious soup. Excellent place, perfect location and a staff that seems to at least marginally give a damn. How I missed out on this place for so long is a mystery. read more

This place has a large selection of hot loose-leaf teas. I probably made a mistake by ordering their bubble tea instead of trying their hot tea. I tried the green oolong bubble tea ($5 regular, $5.5 large) made with half and half (this is the standard unless you ask for a different milk) and sugar. I could barely taste the tea and the drink wasn't that creamy either. It mostly tasted like water... The pearls, as others have mentioned, were hard. They weren't hard in an undercooked way, where they'd be chewy on the outside with a powdery yet firm center. Instead, these pearls were firm throughout which suggested to me that they weren't fresh. They had the texture of the pearls you get when you leave your bubble tea in the fridge overnight. read more

This is a decent place to grab snacks, quick meals or drinks. It's never really crowded in here, so if you want to have a conversation with your friend at a place that isn't so crowded, this may be a good spot (provided you each at least buy one drink. They will not let you sit for long if you come in with a crowd and only grab one drink!). I like that they have a good selection for the drink..although I think a lot of tea was already premade and sitting chilled in the fridge. Otherwise, they taste fine if you aren't too picky. The gentleman owent behind the counter had always been nice and helpful to me...but maybe not always to others who may look to take slight advantage of a local store (e.g. buying a drink but having a huge crowd also sitting at your table without buying anything else). Dado is the best kept secret in Cambridge. A beautiful café that feels so peaceful, considered and thoughtful in its every detail--the perfect place to sit with a friend, or take some time to just be alone and read a book. The co-owner Namwon has great energy. He was always really kind and welcoming to me and my girlfriend (we are from Australia, but Dado felt like a little slice of home). The food is really tasty (I could never go past their egg-salad sandwich; my partner loves the bibimbap wrap), and Dado, of course, has an amazing selection of teas. More than just feeding the body, all the meals felt like they were nourishing the soul. Just good honest cooking--maybe the rarest of things today. I really wanted to like this place! It's really cute and the man at the counter seemed nice. But the earl grey bubble tea was not very nice. The bubbles were a little mushy, and had a strange medicinal taste. The tea it's self did not have a strong earl grey taste and was not very sweet. Got a bubble tea. I had another coffee in my hand as I walked from another place with a bag of pastries Asked to sit outside, owner said it was all good. My aunt and my mom came by to sit down after a long walk. I was getting them settled before I ordered again from the shop. I gave them a pastry, my moms favorite pastry. 30 seconds in, right after they sat down the owner came out and stated that each person must buy something to sit down. And then he said we weren't allowed to eat any outside food even if we did buy more from his shop. First- we were going to order, we weren't given enough time. And that in itself is just sad treatment. Second, if these are the requirements to enter your establishment it would be helpful if there was a sign on the front door so customers aren't surprised and taken aback Feels like the results of gentrification. I love Dado tea!! The people that work here are SO friendly, helpful and kind. They make u feel at home. The food here is so inexpensive but also tasty and fresh. We ordered a strawberry scone (warmed), a red pepper hummus salad with roasted turkey and ginger soy sauce dressing on the side, and the chicken curry with rice. The scone was so delicious and the salad was mind blowing! I couldn't stop eating it because it tasted so fresh! I wasn't the biggest fan of the Japanese chicken curry. I felt like it lacked salt and was quite bland. Regardless though we had a wonderful experience here and will be back to try their tea and have more yummy salad!! read more

I'll never go back. Why? For three reasons. 1) They have no idea how to treat their customers. I got into an argument with the women regarding my credit card. She wanted to charge me an extra $.50 because it didn't meet her $10 minimum (my sandwich was $9) I happen to know that Visa charges 1.5%-1.75% so the most it costs her is actually $.16, not the $.50 she wanted to charge me. She suggested I pay cash - which I didn't have on me (who carries cash these days?) but that's not the point. if you don't want to absorb credit card processing fees than CHARGE an extra nickel or dime for your sandwiches, etc. Don't nickel and dime me, please. 2) The man who made my sandwich did so right at the counter. His hair was literally all over the place (no hat, no net, no protection) and frankly, I was afraid that in addition to my chicken salad I was going to get hair for free as an add-on. Note to the owners - if you are going to prepare food in front of your customers please do so by following proper food handling regulations - you will keep your customers happy and avoid compliance problems. 3) The chicken salad sandwich... was tasteless. No salt, no flavor, really nothing at all to talk about. It wasn't horrible, but you can get a better one at Subway most likely. I'm sorry, but if I'm going to go out for a sandwich in Cambridge there are a lot of better places than Dado Tea. I will not be back. read more

Dado is your neighborhood rendition of a Starbucks for tea, with a sparkle of Asian zest. Basics: The place serves loose leaf tea, Asian inspired quick & go food, and some tradition breakfast items. Interior: Interior is 3/5 - good enough for staying and grinding out some work. A little old with odd orange colors but has a nice homey vibe. Food: I've tried the multigrain rice bowl and the monkey wrap so far. Multigrain rice bowl: 5/5 Portion size: big, enough for 1.5 meals The multigrain rice bowl was truly special. The toppings were pretty standard with a variety of veggies and chicken salad+turkey(extra), but the magic lie in the rice and sauce. The rice has a sticky consistency and has a dark brown appearance, partially due to the beans and grains it's made with. It has a deep earthy flavor that Is totally unique - almost umami like without being sweet at all. Magic. Their house sesame sauce is also outstanding, made with hints of sesame oil that just completely elevates the dish. It brings all the elements together into one. Monkey wrap: 4/5 Portion size: big, stretches one while tortilla wrap. A lot of calories. The monkey wrap is simply a great medley of everything I love for breakfast. Banana, peanut butter, apples, and honey all in one hefty wrap. I still prefer Clover's overnight oats over this, but this is great for when I'm really hungry. I've come here a lot more times since raving about this place. The boba/bubbles are always rock hard... They aren't maintained and/or are fresh such that the boba doesn't even go through the straw. Texturally, those little gummy bubbles played well on the tongue. Digging them out of the bottom of the cup was tricky, however, as they glommed on to each other, requiring surgical separation with the de facto instrumentation: that giant, pointy straw. Appreciate the options - holding the sugar, or changing up the cream to a milk of choice. I went original, and was pleased with the product; it just wasn't a legendary staple. Nestled almost in the lobby of an office building, you may walk right past thinking it was tea and coffee only, but you'd be missing out on some tasty lunch and breakfast offerings. It is a small coffee shop with quite a few "community" tables and a few more intimate sized tables if you don't want to mingle, the place is clean and the offerings in the bakery cabinet are very drool worthy, all types of cinnamon cakes, coffee cakes and fruit pastries, etc.. We were there for lunch and were surprised by the selection, we went for on of the rice bowls, brown rice and veggies topped with your choice of protein, we went with chicken which was almost chicken salad, but all was incredibly fresh and tasted fantastic. I'm a big boba fan. The green tea latte bubble tea is made well. You can tell they use matcha powder, a hefty amount of bubbles fill the bottom third of the cup, and it's not overly sweet. I like that you can also customize your tea by choosing which type of milk (skim, soy, etc), and you can ask them to hold the sugar as well. On my last visit, I decided to deviate from the green tea and tried the lemon-ginger smoothie. As I mentioned, I'm all about the bubbles, so I asked them to put bubbles in the smoothie (the menu says they can be added to any smoothie for 50 cents). The girl at the counter advised me against it since the smoothie has pieces of lemon and ginger, but I insist. Gimme my boba. The number of bubbles I got was far less than in the green tea. And I'm paying 50 cents extra for them! The lemon and ginger pieces added an interesting texture and complexity, and I think the boba was just fine being in the mix as well. It didn't add a lot to the drink, but I still enjoyed their presence. The overall texture of the smoothie was a bit off, as if their blender were malfunctioning. There were large chunks of ice that I had to crunch down on, and the top third of the drink was overly frothy. The lemon and ginger flavors went well together, but I found the drink a bit too sweet overall. Serves me right to deviate. I'm going back to my green tea latte love. Boba-licious. read more

What this place may lack in atmosphere, it makes up for in flavorful and affordable food. In addition to a variety of sandwiches and wraps, they have a full hot menu including udon and ramen noodles, bi-bim-bap, and rice bowls. They seem to be known for their bubble tea, which is good and is easily the item I get with most regularity, but their food shouldn't be overlooked! I've been happy with everything I've gotten at Dado and appreciate it for being one of the only spots in the immediate area that is fast, healthy, and affordable. The service is friendly and I wish the space was as welcoming as the people that work here. I was very close to giving Dado 3 stars, because atmosphere is important to me and there is definitely room for growth here. In spite of the lack of comfy seating though, Dado has made a special place in my heart (stomach?), so 4 stars it is. The room has great light and could easily be made into a more comfortable space.
