I was so happy to find a Philz down in Pasadena! I lived in the Bay for a few years and Philz was my go-to study spot and caffeine fix. Let's start with the coffee: it's almost like craft cocktails meets coffee (without the alcohol)? Each flavor is wonderfully distinct, creative, and delicious. A few of my personal favorites are: Philtered Soul, Tesora, and the Gingersnap. And the baristas are so friendly! I love how they always encourage you to take a sip to make sure everything's to your liking before you take off (although it's always perfect). This particular Philz is a fairly nice spot for working - decent WiFi, good seating. There's not a ton of outlets but there's some if you need to charge while you're there. It's usually pretty busy so it can get noisy but I always bring my headphones and it makes for a great environment for a productive work session. read more

Philz Coffee was centrally located in a shopping and dining district which was near our hotel. There was plenty of seating inside and it felt clean and organized. The staff was also friendly despite being busy. We ordered their cold brew with honey and oat milk which tasted good, but it didn't pack the punch you'd expect from a cold brew. We also ordered their blueberry muffin and bacon burrito. The muffin was average; something you can find at your local grocery store. The "baby" bacon burrito was child portion, but thankfully we weren't very hungry. It paled in comparison to the breakfast burritos you can get in San Diego. Overall, we thought Philz was overpriced. We paid $34.62 for everything above along with a prepackaged chocolate milk and tip. You can get stronger coffee with better food at Starbucks for less $. read more

As everyone already mentioned, Philz is great because it's smooth and creamy. Located in the commons area next to Sugarfish, parking can be found on the streets or 90 mins lot nearby. This location is not super close to me so it's been hard to grab and go during the pandemic. I visited recently for their seasonal drink, the Winter Bliss and it was delicious iced! It has gratitude coffee, Ghirardelli cocoa, cinnamon and nutmeg. It feels like Christmas in a cup! Even though I was in the store, there was not a way to use the GC already applied on my app. But it was not a problem and I got my drink within a few minutes after I told the barista I was ordering on my phone. Mint mojito iced coffee made "the house way" is the best. Such a classic with the creamy sweet flavor topped off well with minty freshness!! I am lactose but this drink doesn't affect my stomach. I haven't come here in awhile but it didn't disappoint and tasted amazing like it always does! It's hard for me to try another flavor cause the mint tastes too good!! The customer service was great, especially the barista gentleman who made our drink. He was very friendly and told us to take a sip before in case we wanted any changes before leaving. But it was perfect and no change needed! It's always busy inside here but there are also outdoor seats if you need a quieter spot. Parking is free at the plaza across (with a time limit of course). The variety of aromas to choose from are amazing. I went for the first time and ordered the Iced Mint Mojito. It was love at first sip...frothy, creamy, slightly minty and the caffeine kick was exquisite. I am a convert! The service was wonderful, the baristas are artists, and the vibe is also very hip and relaxed. There is ample table space for you to do some work or catch up to emails and yes; the WiFi is free and there are ports to plug in. I remember this location being right on Lake instead of inside the plaza. The current location is more spacious with more seating $1 extra for their featured creations. TLDR = Cute coffee shop in the middle of a plaza that's food and walk friendly. Make sure to sip before you leave the coffee counter to ensure any fixes are done before you leave! Exterior = 5/5 Not visible from Lake, unless you peek at the right angle and MAYBE you can see it. You can access this location by walking on Lake or through Cordova on the back. They have a parking structure in the back of the plaza, as well as some curb and pick up spot parking (though they are quick to get snagged up). On the Cordova side, you can see the bright yellow canopies of the store and you know you are in for a treat. Interior = 5/5 Wooden tables and a bustling, warm vibes greet you the moment you open the door. Depending on what entrance you take, you will see long wooden tables or smaller table spots to pull up and have a drink or chat. They also have some seating outdoor that can seat up to 4 people. Inside offers some nice study locations, you have a large mess hall style table, or more private single spots along the walls. The coffee counter is the center of it all - though you have to go to the cashier to pay. Service = 5/5 Once you pay, take a seat along the bench or stand (your preference), and wait for your name to be called. It can take some time since the baristas are making the phone and physical in person orders at the same time. When they do call you, you go up and take a sip to see if you like how it was made. If you don't, you let them know and they make the proper adjustments. You are not allowed to leave until you are satisfied (if that is not great service, I mean what is). I feel like its always good to try, since even though I go with the same order, some baristas interpret the drink differently. So take the time for the quick sip, it will go a long way. Order = 5/5 Just to set the stage - they use creamy and sweet as adjectives to describe the level of cream or sugar you want to put. So if they say creamy cream or sweet sugar - this means 100%. Medium and light, you kind of can guess. I am a huge fan of the Tesora. I have done different modifications with it. I usually always get it with extra extra cream, and a sweet sweetener. My sweeteners tend to be their usually brown sugar, stevia, or honey. Right now I am really vibing on the sweet honey, and extra extra cream. It's like melted honey ice cream (but not like overly sugared out), and I am all for it. When I am not feeling the Tesora (which is rarely), I go with the mint mojito - same style of the sweet sugar, and extra extra cream. Overall = 5/5 Great location in Pasadena to grab some coffee after a meal, or as a pick me up any time. My go to location so far for Philz since it is easy to access. I dislike leaving reviews like this, but I've been coming to this Philz for probably 4 years and today had an unpleasant encounter with an employee. I was in a rush to get to an appointment and ordered ahead on the app (the app is awesome btw). It was mid-afternoon and they weren't all that busy, but after my ETA time came and went (maybe a few min past) I came up and asked one of the baristas for a status update. I wasn't rude or pushy, but she gave me a look and said "we'll call you when it's ready, I'm helping other customers"... I looked around and there were maybe 4 people waiting. I apologized and said I'm in a rush and ordered ahead. She looked annoyed but ultimately pointed to the barista working on my order and said something I couldn't hear. Ok, here's the thing. I understand that customers can be pushy and entitled to their perfectly-executed $8 pour-over served exactly right, at the exact time promised on the app. And I understand the stress of a rush-hour coffee shop, I worked in food service too. But dude, this was a mostly empty Philz, and an employee working there should be able to make coffees and deal with customers at the same time, particularly on off-peak hours. If Philz doesn't want that, there should be a barrier between the customer and barista. But part of the point of that bar is that the barista is accessible. Again, sorry to do this. But it just left and ick and I'll probably order coffee elsewhere next time. read more

I have been a fan of Philz for many years. It is just not in my current home area, so I couldn't go often. My first time visiting was the Bay Area location. Then they opened one in Santa Monica...But I often go to the Glendale location near my old house. I'm glad that I found this location for another option. This location is clean and has a good vibe. There are plenty of seats to hang out. And employees are friendly. I always get the minty mojito ice coffee and ask for less sweet to suit my diet. Actually, this drink has a good sweet level already. There were plenty of fresh mint leaves in the drink and that gave a nice scent and spice up the drink. I love it so much. Oh! I wanna mention this for the hard core coffee drinker. They don't have espresso machine here. All their coffee is drip. I love both espresso and drip. Finally giving Philz a review after over 10 years of having it from the original location from San Francisco. They have expanded quite a bit all over Southern California and across the US. I never thought this place would get this big after having my first sip of a sweet and creamy iced ecstatic. I still remember the old system of ordering first then paying for your drink but with how popular and busy it has gotten, this structure probably would not work. This location, Studio City and Santa Monica are the only ones where I have not had a problem with my order and has been the most staffed. I always tend to have a problem with the Glendale location. The one in Valencia just opened and is ridiculously busy so if you go there, go with an open mind as many of them may be new :) My favorite selections are an iced Julie's Ultimate, Silken Splendor, and Jacob's Wonderbar. It really depends on my mood for dark or light coffee. I usually just get light sweet and light cream as I eat a sweet pastry or if I ever get a bagel, then I get medium sweet and medium cream. For newcomers - Philz does not serve lattes, cappuccinos, or lattes as they only serve coffee, tea, and hot/iced chocolate. You select how sweet (Light to Sweet) you want and how creamy (Light to Creamy) and then iced or hot. If you do not like your drink, you could always ask them to adjust it to your liking or get a different drink. Parking can be a hassle at this location, your best bet is to park across the street which has 90 minutes free. read more

I always make it a point to stop by Philz Coffee when I visit California, and it's always a delight. The Philtered Soul is still delicious, but I don't remember it being this sweet. I didn't ask for it to be served sweet, but I guess I did not specifically tell them to serve it sans sweeteners. This spot, right by the shops on Lake Avenue, is a cute and quaint location. They have benches and tables outside with their iconic yellow umbrellas and teak outdoor patio set. I wanted something sweet since I wasn't a fan of coffee due to the bitterness so I was going to opt for the ambrosia or the rose but was recommended by this kind asian gentleman for their new drink called sweet harmony which is the sweeter option of their mint mojito. I did enjoy it cold and it was fairly delicious. I would not have opted for another large though. Their butter croissant was extremely flakey and buttery. Paired perfectly with my coffee. Next time I think I would try their teas. During my visit, I saw two female employees making drinks but also chit chatting a little too much. There were individuals waiting for their drinks and I would've expected them to call out names for the drinks they place on the counter but they were just facing the order name in front and continuing their conversation and making drinks. First time in Philz. Walked in, nobody in line. We said hi to the cashier and began to look at the menu. She then left the register. We had moved towards the pastries, and a short line had formed behind us. When the cashier came back, we went to her register and she all but accused us of cutting in line. She was pretty rude the rest of the interaction. I felt I couldn't ask any questions about the menu which was uncomfortable because it was my first time. Didn't call our name when the pastries were ready, just slammed (only slightly exaggerating!) them down on the counter. Didn't heat up the croissant we bought. 3.5 Stars. I've been hearing about Philz forever and I always see it everywhere when I visit NorCal, but I didn't get into the coffee game until recently so this was my first time at Philz. This Philz location is pretty spacious inside and out, with alot of space to work and relax. Atmosphere is great and service was helpful and friendly. As for the actual drinks, I wasn't a fan of the iced Philtered soul or Ginger snap lattes, but I did love the iced coffee rose, which is their cold brew with rose cream. Philz is a nice, cozy store with a great location. The staff are friendly and so attentive and their online app is designed so well and is very easy to use. It is usually quite crowded, which just attests to how good the drinks here are! Sadly, they don't sell avocado toast here anymore which is such a tragedy, as I was looking forward to trying it. On the second visit, I ordered one of their bestsellers, Mint Mojito Iced Coffee and a plain bagel. The Mint Mojito is quite minty, and has a unique flavor. I personally didn't love it, but the base coffee is delicious. It's definitely an acquired taste but since I'm not a huge fan of mint, it wasn't the best. The bagel is delicious and they give you a generous amount of Philadelphia cream cheese. They also toast the bagel, which is very dense and chewy. I would prefer slightly more toasted bread, but it was still very good. On the third visit, we ordered Ecstatic and a bacon and egg cheese breakfast burrito. I should have ordered more sugar with Ecstatic and it doesn't really taste good to me. Furthermore, the breakfast burrito I ordered without cheese, but they still gave me cheese. I'm not sure what it is in the burrito, but it gave me some sort of food poisoning. This is a great shop, but in my opinion, there are a few good drinks that I really like, and once you find those, you should probably just stick to them.
