I've been to my fair share of coffee houses after living in NYC and Philter is up there with the best. First things first, the decor is awesome. Clean and fresh, yet rustic. Plus there are plenty of tables. Yet the coffee is the real star of the show - tons of options and all delicious. I really appreciate a coffee shop that serves cortado because it reminds of Spain. This place is exceptional!! The decor and ambiance is warm, welcoming and cozy. The handcrafted wooden tables are beautiful and the light fixtures are one-of-a-kind. The coffee and tea selections are vast and are sure to satisfy any palate. The breakfast, lunch, homemade soups and baked goods are all so enticing. I enjoyed a prosciutto, brie and arugula sandwich on a baguette and a roiboos tea chai latte. Both were delicious! The owner, Chris, is a true artist when it comes to coffee and is incredibly knowledgable about what he has to offer. Wow, a great find on a quick trip to Kennet Square to see Longwood Gardens. We each had an egg sandwich that was a perfect breakfast along with a cup of coffee. Coffee was hot and strong ( Starbucks strong). The wait staff was friendly and quick . Nice selection of teas from the local tea room as well. I took one to go. read more

Can I just live in here? This place might make me a morning person. Coffee brewed right. Flavorful breakfast sandwiches. My favorite is the egg, roasted red pepper, onion, local mushrooms and tomato pesto on a croissant. The croissant alone was so delicious it almost felt sacrilegious to put anything on. Hooray for Philter! I work in Kennett, and while Dunkin/Wawa/Starbucks are the same distance for me, it's lovely to have a coffee option that helps support local businesses & the township. The coffee & food are tasty, the atmosphere is cool without being wildly pretentious (think: a more masculine Anthropologie), and the staff has always been pretty friendly. I also enjoy the fact that I can put any charge on my card without having to pay a minimum amount, as I usually only carry about 27 cents with me at any given time. I hope Philter continues to be successful! read more

Stopped here on way back to Maryland. The coffee is excellent. I had salmon and egg on sour dough and my daughter had egg with cheddar on sour dough. They were good but sour dough fell apart. I would try different bread next time. The town of Kennett Square should be explored! read more

This place was a really cute coffee shop. My latte was quite good and you can tell that "Phil" has put quite a bit of care into it. The decor in the windows and the store is great, as were the photographs displayed. I especially liked the menu drawn on an old door. There is outdoor seating as well as plenty of seating indoors. My espresso chocolate chip muffin was good as well. The only issue I had was with the service - maybe it just wasn't her morning but the woman who served me seemed impatient and unfriendly. I don't think it is that hard to put on a smile when you are taking someone's order, and the people actually making the coffee were very friendly, but she just kind of put a damper on my mood. Very cute place to come though, and all their food and drinks looked great. read more

Had an early morning meeting in Kennett. What a great place! The oatmeal w/ walnuts cardamon and honey is awesome! Quiet as of 0630. Parking payment on the street and the lot in town doesn't start until 9am as well. Good place. read more

Very nice ambiance and very good coffee!! Cappuccino (even with skim milk) was very good. They seem to have a decent collection of teas as well. Rustic wooden tables and laid back nature of the shop is perfect for a late afternoon coffee.. Enjoyed it! read more

Really had great expectations for this place because I love to frequent new small businesses in Kennett, but it was a total let down. It was really ridiculous to wait 10 minutes for a cup of coffee. Come on now , we're not splitting the atom here. The Americano was a shot added to a hot cup of water. What? Weak.. The decaf a" pour over "was left sitting in the pot for 8 minutes while the woman waiting on us and the woman pouring the coffee disappeared . Disorganized chaos. We had to ask the owner ( who was indifferent by the way) if he could get it for us. By the time I got the decaf it was warm and weak. Sorry but the coffee here had nothing to be desired. Although the place was tastefully decorated and warm on a cold winter's day, I walked out of this place wondering why is this place crowded and remembering the Emperor's New Clothes. read more

Really cute little place right in the heart of Kennett Square main street. We were wandering around and went into Philter for a bite at lunch time. They have a pretty sizeable selection of sandwiches (maybe about 6-8) that can also be made as salads. We got the ham and cheese sandwich, mushroom/roasted pepper sandwich, and the hummus salad. Each was really tasty and fresh. Looking around at the rest of the tables, the coffee looked very nice. Most of their seating is inside, but we were able to snag a small table outside on the sidewalk to enjoy our lunch. Highly recommend for a relaxed bite to eat! read more

Cute place, trendy well decorated. I didn't find the staff particular friendly or warm. Especially being a new place they should say "goodbye", "thank you." The food is delicious, but expensive for what it is. By no means am I cheap, but I order the chicken salad sandwich, which was very good. It was $7.50 and I got a measly spread of the littlest bit of chicken salad. I'm sure it's great for coffee and quick little bite. It was less then a stellar experience . Got the mushroom soup. Plenty of mushrooms in a broth but it wasn't hot and the mushrooms were rubbery. My wife had a breakfast sandwich and I had the curry chicken salad. They got the bread wrong on both sandwiches. The egg sandwich was really good. The chicken salad had almost no chicken salad on it. The food is great, the atmosphere is perfectly attuned to create an organic quality to the place that draws people back to sit and work, talk and just enjoy the view of State Street from the front windows. Fantastic coffee and food but not so keen on the service. Every time food comes out waaaay before coffee.... Food is either cold waiting for coffee or half gone by the time coffee arrives. Today, waited inside for ~9 minutes while my breakfast sandwich was delivered to my table outside .... Half eaten by flies by the time I got there. Asked for new bread and omg if looks could kill! . Kennett's best place to chill honestly. i do homework here all the time while i drink my lattes and such, it's a cute lil date spot too. not to mention they have my favorite chai lattes. way better than starbucks ill say it. and i'm in love with every barista they're amazing. they have great bagels great sandwiches great snacks (highly recommend the lemon poppyseed muffins and their brownies) 10/10:) read more
