Really enjoy the decor, original seats from veterans stadium... Very cool. PTI on one tv and king of queens on the other so visually I love the decor. Now the food wasn't as good as I'd hoped. Got Philly's Best chicken sandwich which had good flavor however my order of pizza fries left me feeling flat. My wife ordered the pizza chicken Philly which she did not really enjoy. I tried it and felt it was ok, but I'll stick to the original chicken. All in all it's good but have to sample more of the menu before I hand out the last two stars. read more

This place is pretty good, i have always wanted to have a Philly cheese-steak, but unfortunately that hasn't happened yet. But I'm pretty sure this is how its suppose to taste. I have had other cheese-steaks but have not liked them as much as i like these. I have a cheese-steak with provolone cheese, it taste really good but at times go a little crazy with the cheese it becomes too cheesy. I also order a side of fries and a drink, in total it can get expensive if every one orders the same. Try sharing the fries it helps :D. I would have given the Philly's Best in Whittier a five star but sadly they are out of business. They had a managers special that if you bought two philly cheese-steaks you would get two fries and two drinks for free. It was an awesome deal. It was also not crowded and the seats alot more comfortable. This Downey version is second to them. The location is in Downey Landing Shopping center which makes parking a big hassle. The place is small and can get very crowded. Not to mention their stadium seats can become very uncomfortable. They do not have any specials except if you eat five sandwiches you get $100. Love this place! My friend took me to the one in Buena Park and I loved that one too so when I learned of this one (relatively close to work) I tried it out. Unfortunately it really is too crowded to get my food and be back to work on a usual week day. It is well worth the wait on a day when I have extra time, however. I love their onion rings! I like sitting outside too-not exactly scenic, very strip mall food court type place, but there is usually a seat even if there isn't one inside. read more

It was ok. I've had actual cheesesteaks from Philly and these aren't as good. The meat was kind of dry and lacked flavor. They were super stingy on the cheese - something I haven't experienced on the ones I've had from Philly. They charge too much for a sub-par sandwich. The steak sandwich at Subway is better. This Philly's Best is the best! I have been to two other Philly's Best and they did not taste as good as this one! I don't know if the owner of this Philly's orders different meat, seasons differently, or maybe it is just fresher than the others. Trash! The owner is rude. The store is dirty. The owner nor his chef wears gloves, when cooking the food. I saw the owner cleaning certain areas around the restaurant. The food is made to order which is nice because its always hot. I love to come here because the Philly's best sandwich is really good. My girlfriend, however, isn't really into this place. She doesn't like the taste of the sandwiches but she likes the fries. Its also pretty expensive compared to other places that sell similar items. I like the family feel to the restaurant though. Zero Stars. I will never go there again. Last time I went, I had to return the sandwich because the meat was purple and green. Really nice staff! My boyfriend and I put in our 'for here' orders at 852PM just before they were closing. I had a really bad toothache & had to take my time eating. Everyone else at the place rushed to leave cos it was obvious they were closing. The staff reassured me that it was fine that I was still eating after closing time & even offered to wrap my uneaten other half of the philly's best sub. Philly's best is the closest you'll get to authentic Philly cheesesteak sandwich in socal. The sandwiches are huge and they don't skimp on the meat. When I go here I always get the Philly's Best sandwich that comes with sweet peppers, mushrooms, and a lot of cheese. The sandwiches are flavorful and will definitely fill you up. This place has sports bar feel with all the sports memorabilia on the walls racing tile floors, and TVs.
