My co-worker has been hyping this place up for a long time so we finally decided it was time to take me here. She had been hearing me talk about "Pops" in Las Vegas and also "Roys" when i went to Atlanta. It did not take much convincing to get me to go eat a Philly cheesesteak! I checked out there website and i noticed that they import there amoroso rolls from philly which Roys in Atlanta also so i was pretty excited. We get lucky pulling in getting a front row spot. We walk in and the place is pretty empty, but little did we know we had just beat the lunch rush. I ordered a "Philly's Best" which comes with sweet peppers & mushrooms i opted for onions on it too. Now for cheese i was kinda looking forward to trying it with provolone but my coworker somehow convinced me to get it with american which was still not a bad choice. I also ordered a side of cheese fries because i wanted to try the cheese whiz. We took everything back to the office to eat and surprisingly everything was still pretty hot. The fries had gotten a little soggy but that would have happened with fries from anywhere. The cheese steak was very tasty, very juicy and gooey. The bread is really the key and importing the amoroso is a HUGE plus. Now this cheese was very good BUT I was a little disappointed. The sweet peppers had WAY to much of a vinegar taste to them and it REALLY killed the taste for me. Every bite had to much sweet pepper taste to it and i could barely taste the meat let alone the mushrooms in it. When i did take a bite without the sweet pepper taste i would catch a glimpse of greatness. I will defiantly have to come back and try one without sweet peppers. Crazy expensive! But worth it and you will have some for later too. Pickle bar galore! Sandwiches come out fresh to order and pipping hot! Cashier works sooo fast and writes even faster! Really slow service with hardly any customers. Don't even get me started on how soggy the bread was. I was very disappointed.

This place is pretty good, i have always wanted to have a Philly cheese-steak, but unfortunately that hasn't happened yet. But I'm pretty sure this is how its suppose to taste. I have had other cheese-steaks but have not liked them as much as i like these. I have a cheese-steak with provolone cheese, it taste really good but at times go a little crazy with the cheese it becomes too cheesy. I also order a side of fries and a drink, in total it can get expensive if every one orders the same. Try sharing the fries it helps :D. I would have given the Philly's Best in Whittier a five star but sadly they are out of business. They had a managers special that if you bought two philly cheese-steaks you would get two fries and two drinks for free. It was an awesome deal. It was also not crowded and the seats alot more comfortable. This Downey version is second to them. The location is in Downey Landing Shopping center which makes parking a big hassle. The place is small and can get very crowded. Not to mention their stadium seats can become very uncomfortable. They do not have any specials except if you eat five sandwiches you get $100. But for the average folk that special doesn't really help. read more

Had the Philly cheese hoagie. It was good for the price. The pickled peppers were good also. I would go back again. It beats Subways Philly.

No matter what chain I go to its consistent and friendly. The steak sandwiches are amazing. The bread is always soft and flavor is on point.

Love this place! My friend took me to the one in Buena Park and I loved that one too so when I learned of this one (relatively close to work) I tried it out. Unfortunately it really is too crowded to get my food and be back to work on a usual week day. It is well worth the wait on a day when I have extra time, however. I love their onion rings! I like sitting outside too-not exactly scenic, very strip mall food court type place, but there is usually a seat even if there isn't one inside. read more

It was ok. I've had actual cheesesteaks from Philly and these aren't as good. The meat was kind of dry and lacked flavor. They were super stingy on the cheese - something I haven't experienced on the ones I've had from Philly. They charge too much for a sub-par sandwich. The steak sandwich at Subway is better. This Philly's Best is the best! I have been to two other Philly's Best and they did not taste as good as this one! I don't know if the owner of this Philly's orders different meat, seasons differently, or maybe it is just fresher than the others. Really enjoy the decor, original seats from veterans stadium... Very cool. PTI on one tv and king of queens on the other so visually I love the decor. Now the food wasn't as good as I'd hoped. Got Philly's Best chicken sandwich which had good flavor however my order of pizza fries left me feeling flat. My wife ordered the pizza chicken Philly which she did not really enjoy. I tried it and felt it was ok, but I'll stick to the original chicken. All in all it's good but have to sample more of the menu before I hand out the last two stars. read more

The food is made to order which is nice because its always hot. I love to come here because the Philly's best sandwich is really good. My girlfriend, however, isn't really into this place. She doesn't like the taste of the sandwiches but she likes the fries. Its also pretty expensive compared to other places that sell similar items. I like the family feel to the restaurant though. Felt like a pastrami sandwich today. The picture of the sandwich in front of place was loaded with pastrami so I decided to come in. Paid almost $10 for the 10" sandwich. Let's just say the picture was extremely deceiving. There was barely any meat in the sandwich. I wasn't even full. You can get a better deal with getting footlong at subway. I didn't catch the gentleman with the beards name or the cook but very polite as I walked in. Then even acknowledge my 6 year old daughter which I found very professional. Visited for a quick bite, whoa the cheesesteaks here are definitely good! I ordered up a mushroom cheesesteak with onions, ended up great in size and great in flavor. Also shared an order of the Philly Fries with yellow and white cheese with meat also very flavor packed. Good stop for flavor and portions. Vegetarians should probably avoid, but they do have the option for a veggie sandwich tho. read more

Zero Stars. I will never go there again. Last time I went, I had to return the sandwich because the meat was purple and green. Worst part was that I took a bite first and then I decided to open the sandwich to put mustard on it. OMG. Disgusting. Great samiches... really really good. I love their condiments bar and self drinks variety. It's delicious for the Philly chicken sandwich. Fries are super specially the ones with cheese on top. Really nice staff! My boyfriend and I put in our 'for here' orders at 852PM just before they were closing. I had a really bad toothache & had to take my time eating. Everyone else at the place rushed to leave cos it was obvious they were closing. The staff reassured me that it was fine that I was still eating after closing time & even offered to wrap my uneaten other half of the philly's best sub. Meh. That's about all there is to say. I ordered the BBQ Chicken Philly, and it was pretty well flavorless, but a little more BBQ sauce(Bullseye) would have made it pretty tasty. On the plus side, there was an adequate amount of meat and a good amount of cheese. The cheese fries are made with liquid cheese, again, not a lot of flavor. I'd say the food is uninspiring. Ever since going to Philadelphia I've been a fan of cheesesteaks so when I found out about this place I had to try it! Philly's best is the closest you'll get to authentic Philly cheesesteak sandwich in socal. The sandwiches are huge and they don't skimp on the meat. When I go here I always get the Philly's Best sandwich that comes with sweet peppers, mushrooms, and a lot of cheese. The sandwiches are flavorful and will definitely fill you up. This place has sports bar feel with all the sports memorabilia on the walls racing tile floors, and TVs.
