Dinner last night was extraordinary in every way! The restaurant is beautiful. Subtle and classy in decor. Very small and we marveled at the magic that came out of the tiny kitchen. We started with white asparagus that are in season, they were cooked perfectly w a delicate sauce. My husband had the mushroom soufflé and said it was full of mushrooms and the flavor was great. I had the Beef tenderloin and purée potato's and the beef was the best I have had in the 11yrs we have been coming to Paris- and we eat in all levels of restaurants. nner | €80-90 Back in the States a few days now after our first overseas adventure and we can't stop raving about our dining experience at Philippe Excoffier. It seems we have a happy knack of stumbling across memorable places. This gem ranks as the best meal we've ever had. We opted for the Chef's Choice, a 5 course selection priced at 80eu a piece. Every single course was light, delicate, complex, seasoned divinely, plated beautifully and nicely portioned. Nothing fell short. Wine selection was also a lovely choice. The IT factor for our night was the wonderfully engaging Flo, whose personal attention to our table was the "je ne sais quoi " of the entire evening. Absolutely top notch! To have the Chef himself visit with us and take the time to answer questions about his culinary creations was so impressive. This is a man who has personally prepared meals for three US Presidents. We truly felt special. If we are ever able to revisit the magic of Paris, we will eagerly return to Excoffier. Until we meet again. read more

Mon dieu! Excoffier is an incredible little restaurant not far from the Tour Eiffel in the 7eme. Intimate and pretty, very personal service, and of course exceptional food. We had the suprème de volailles (chicken breast), a small soufleé that seems like a fluffy pillow imbued with chicken reduction. Also, the ris de veau (veal) a perfectly-formed cylinder of succulent veal in a light sauce and surrounded by perfect veggies. For dessert, a lovely strawberry soufflé (the restaurant specializes in soufflés). We're staying down the street and stopped in for a very late dinner, when only one other table was occupied--but they seem to have no weekend reservations available a week or two ahead of time. Imagine unexpectedly finding this sweet restaurant 150 feet from your home for a week! We'll be back at least once and maybe more. read more

What a hidden gem! We have recently moved to Paris and found this wonderful restaurant hidden in our neighborhood. It was actually recommended by a work colleague as a "place he takes important guests." They are known for their soufflés but offer many other savory dishes as well. I would definitely start with a soufflé, they offered 3, the cheese, mushroom and truffle. I had the truffle soufflé and it was absolutely delicious. I next had the 7 hour roasted lamb which deliciously fell apart. Lastly I finished with the grand marnier flambé soufflé. While I would order all those items again, I will definitely go back so that I can try the other dishes. I highly recommend this place! read more

Our travel companion was all about wanting to go to this Michelin star restaurant and we were along for the ride. While he opted for the multi-course with wine pairing we just went with the entree/dessert option as we were having a hard time acclimating to the crazy amount of food that people in France eat. I got the white fish while my wife got the lobster risotto. Both were amazing. The desserts, a souffle for me and sorbet for her, also amazingly delicious. Now onto the best part - the kitchen has a round window that you can see right through and watch the chef work his magic. You can also watch him continuously look out to the tables to make sure his course timing is right. Everything came out in perfect time. My wife and I were in France for 17 days, and this little restaurant delivered the best meal and best experience. We had the set menu ("surprise" = chef's choice) with wine pairing chosen by the staff, and everything was delicious and well-presented. The service was also excellent. Highly recommended. I'm no expert on French food, but from what I could tell, this was just about as incredible and authentic as you can get in a tourist trap city like Paris. I went with my girlfriend for a special occasion, and neither of us were disappointed. The atmosphere was quiet, with just one other table present. The staff was beyond courteous and spoke near perfect English for us to understand. For our appetizer we ordered the Foie Gras Ravioli. Never having had Foie Gras, I was a little skeptical, but I was pleasantly surprised. Great flavor all around, but personal the texture was a bit too soft. We received endless, complementary bread with our meal, which helped lap up the rest of the app. Both of our entrees were delectable. She ordered the beef and I the smoked salmon. Both were not only cooked to perfection, but had copious amounts of great flavor. The texture was perfect, the appearance was perfect, everything was perfect. As for dessert, both exploded with flavor. My chocolate bar with raspberry sauce and some kind of peppers was soft and smooth. My girlfriend's vanilla mouse was smooth and creamy, while the raspberry mouse was bursting with flavor. To top it off we got complementary slices of pecan pie. They were tiny, but delicious. In the end, along with a glass of wine, water, and a cup of coffee, it came to just under 100 Euros, which was well worth it. Overrated. The first course came with a mini stale hamburger bun & laden with mayo albeit fresh lobster. The second entree was a heavy cream risotto - again, the magic lost in the heavy creme. The third plate of fish was unmemorable. The fourth a rubbery, chewy duck lacking flavor & finally an overly sweet caramel dessert recommended by the chef. The wine pairings were not worth it; I didn't comprehend the compliment behind the proposed pairings. On a positive note, the restaurant is clean, the chef's timing impeccable, the dining room air conditioned & the staff friendly. The check for lunch & wine pairings came to approx 150 Euro. We went for a private Soufflé class with Philippe. It was incredible. So much so we booked a dinner for our last meal. It could not have been worst. In fact we left after an hour, having just gotten our menus when others who came in later were already eating their first courses. Philippe was not in, and it showed in abundance. We had a 115€ bottle of champagne that we didn't get to finish, and only when I asked for the check did a waiter ask of we wanted to order. It was especially disappointing because we planned for an exceptional meal for our last night in Paris. It was as if we were at a McCafe, instead of a renowned restaurant with such a friendly and welcoming chef. Bummer, that the restaurant didn't do better, the management/owner didn't apologize and that we spent so much on a bottle of champagne only to be so disappointed and not get to eat. A truly fantastic neighborhood restaurant located near the Eiffel Tower! My family dines at restaurant every time we return to Paris. Last night our dinner was no exception - the service was warm and welcoming, the food exceptional and the setting beautiful. The 3-course menu is a bit more expensive than others in the area (3 courses for 45 Euros), but it is well worth it. I ordered the tomato souffle as my appetizer which was delicious! The souffle was very light, yet tasty, and had a wonderful texture. For my main course, I had the duck tenderloin with noodles (crispy noodles, see picture) which was also wonderful. I have a caramel souffle for dessert which was divine - and this is Chef Excoffier's signature. Lastly, the staff are outstanding! Had an early dinner here about a year ago. Amazing meal! We ate early by French standard so there were few people there. The chef came out during the meal and introduced himself. I had scallops. Perfectly done. The best part of the meal.....desert. By far the best soufflé I have ever had. Wife felt the same way. We were in Paris for just one evening and could not get into any Michelin * restaurants last minute. Luckily for us, we found Philippe Excoffier as it may be on the verge of earning a star in the near future. The quaint atmosphere, and hands on service by Philippe himself was great. The food was amazing, and for the low price of 65€ for a 5 course tasting, was also a tremendous value. I would definitely return on a future visit to Paris, however I would expect that in the near future advance reservations will be required. read more

Quite bizarrely, this place has several enlarged, framed pictures of the chef posing with both George Bush Sr and Jr prominently displayed in the front window. This fairly surreal detail alone should have been a sign to steer clear of this place, but by this point we were falling deep in the throes of a fierce hunger haze, and the place looked promising enough, and with our first lunch option turning out to be closed that day, we went inside. Despite some promising items on the menu, we ordered the lunch 'menu formule', which came with pumpkin soup and shrimp risotto. The soup was pretty tasty - well seasoned, with bits of micro greens and sprouts floating around in it and a dollop of white foam on top that had a slightly smokey flavor. Not bad. The shrimp risotto, however, was another story. I honestly thought it was crap. Whatever flavor it could have had was totally drowned out in a dominating sea of citrus-y lemon zest. Even worse, the shrimp were bland because they clearly hadn't been sautéed in any garlic or herbs, which is just an idiotic thing to omit when cooking with shrimp, especially with an Italian dish like this. Overall, we thought this place was a waste of time and money, and those photos with Bushes Jr and Sr really should have been seen as a big red flag. Oh well. read more

You owe it to yourself to find this little French restaurant just a five minute walk from the Eiffel Tower. It's hidden, but make no mistake. If you take the time to find it, you will be glad that you did. The soufflé is out of this world. We tried the Grand Marnier. Hands-down the best dessert we had the entire trip. read more
