Wow. We were looking for our first authentic French culinary experience, and this was it!!!! The place has a very casual ambiance, but the food and presentation would be at only the finest tableclothed establishments in the Us. We were nervous to try our first Foie Gras but this was delicious. The mango and cilantro and dressing perfectly complimented lightened the luxurious duck liver. It was served with a citrus forward accompaniment that was sipped with each bite. See the photos for our other experiences. Amazing. Only complaint was that the ceviche was very salty. What a great experience. One more commentary: the French so far have been wonderfully sweet and hospitable despite our butchering of their most beautiful language. read more

Best meal we've had in France! We came here for dinner on our last night in Paris. Don't be turned off by the brief menu. The food is amazing. So fresh and flavorful. Wow, just wow...small restaurant that has set menu for the day, but trust that everything will be amazing. If they have rack of lamb, don't hesitate a second...as it is amazing. Food will melt in your mouth, is everything you'd expect from small Parisian eatery AND MORE! We went here based on other great Yelp reviews after perusing stores in the area. Beware, that they don't speak much English, but are friendly and willing to work through the language barrier with you. The menu has both French and English, so that was a greatly appreciated help. It was convenient because it's right off of Rue Royale, a major high end shopping area where stores close between 7:00-7:30 and not a far walk from the Opera House. Le Madeleine C did not let us down. It seems as though it's hard to find a bad meal in Paris, but what set this experience apart was the ambiance. We went at 7:30, which seems to be early for Parisians, so don't be surprised if it's very quiet or seated only with other Americans until after 8:00. The lighting and the American Jazz playing in the background coupled with a perfect window seat, a cozy-quiet street with enough people watching to keep things interesting and colorful modern decor that felt like a cross between Manhattan and Paris really fit the bill for our last dining experience in Paris. The Prix Fixe dinner was a great value compared to some other dinners on our excursion and the menu still had 3-4 options each for starters, entrees and desserts. The escargot was incredible...incredible....and I don't even like escargot. The shrimp and risotto was great and my fiancé said the beef tenderloin with fries and green beans was perfectly cooked. The Bordeaux we had was nice and the crème brûlée was also delish. Even if this restaurant is out of your way it's worth a trip, you will truly feel like you're in Paris and not at a tourist eatery. My first trip and second night in Paris. I had been underwhelmed with what I was discovering on my own and turned to my friends at Yelp for help. Why aren't more people here!!! This is truly a hidden gem. The restaurant is small with minimal, but clean decor, but what really stands out is #1 the food and at a close #2 the service and friendly staff! Went as a solo female diner and was seated immediately at my choice of tables. Water and menus came promptly (bottled Evian at 7Eu) along with the menu. There is a small but nice wine list that seems to change based on availabiltiy (alot of crossed out items) with reasonable prices. The menu has a nice but not overwhelming selection of classic French dishes. However, tucked in the back was another gem - a 3 course prix fixe menu with your choice of appetizer, entree and rotating "dessert of the day". This is what I choose. Started off with the escargot which were perfectly garlicky, seasoned and hot with a basket of sliced baugette - perfection! Followed this with the shrimp and mushroom risotto which again was wonderfully fresh and seasoned to perfection (with a healthy dose of butter to make it extra special). The dessert today was a panna cotta with fresh berry coulis that was so fresh I could practically see the hens that laid the eggs! All this, coupled with a couple of glasses of Chablis and service that was completely attentive and friendly without being overbearing for 57 Euro - this has become a must-stop for me and anyone I nkow visiting this part of Paris anytime soon! read more

My husband and I were staying just around the corner from this lovely restaurant and had wondered by on our nightly walks admiring the white table clothes and moody romantic interior. When we asked our concierge for a recommendation for a nice dinner Le Madeleine C was his 1st suggestion. We knew exactly where he was speaking of. He made reservations for us the following evening (even though I think you would be fine without them). Our dinner reservation was for 830 and we arrived and were seated at a window table - perfect! We dined here our last night in Paris so being able to sip our wine and look out to the streets was wonderful. The waiter spoke almost no English but gave us menus in English. I had the beef tenderloin w fries and green beans and my husband had the foie gras- both we're excellent. We started w French onion soup--- ahhhh soooo delicious!!! We finished w crime brûlée and crepes w ice cream- I cannot even describe the heaven in my mouth w the creme brûlée !!! Unbelievable is the word I would use to rate this restaurant. Bunch of us came here for dinner, it was recommended to us by hotel. "Monsieur, all restaurants in Paris are excellent, but this place is exceptional"...Oui!! The day we went, the place was pretty full. A gentlemen ran the front while the lady ran the kitchen, like a well oiled machine. Us with very little French and gentlemen with very little English, we managed to order the best things on the menu. And, they were fabulous. Foie Gras, the Escargot, the wine, the bread, everything, excellent, excellent and excellent. My favourite dish was the truffle sauce steak. This plate was heaven. The sauce with a piece of bread, just does the trick. I wish I had some room for the Creme Brûlée! read more

This place was great. The owners do the cooking, serve the food and open the wine. It was all fantastic and the price was very reasonable. They don't speak a ton of english, but you will be able to get by and the menu is translated. I was very surprised at the high quality they are able to produce in such a small location. Where do I start. My son graduated from USC and we headed to Paris for his dream vacation... he earned it! Landed in our little hotel and asked the tall, dark and handsome clerk behind the desk... "Where to we go for a great dinner?" He asked two questions, "Do you want good food that is not expensive?"--"Or do you want Parisian food that will be a little more in price?" Little did he know that his advise made our vacation one of the best ever!!!! Truly!!! So we headed to LeMadeleine C where the incredible, fresh, perfectly prepared food adventure began. From the first night, this was our hub! We roamed around Paris for 9 days but this was by far the best hidden gem, in Paris! We began comparing other restaurants to LeMadeleine, and none of them compared, so we returned to LeMadeleine ever-other night to feast on something we saw the night earlier on their menu. Even my picky son was eating items I never thought he would try! I am a fine chef... also picky, but there was nothing to complain about... it was perfect! Even the owner, who appeared a tad stiff under that professional manner, was hiding a twinkle in his eye and a smile when he saw us returning. This is a nice out of the way spot for dinner if you are looking for local food where locals eat. If you are tired of the touristy spots this is a great find and still close to the hotels. The atmosphere was quite ( but I was eating at 7:30 which is early in Paris) playing soft American Jazz in the background. My good was great. My server spoke French and English and was willing to let me practice French but speak English when I ran out of vocabulary. The price was very fair for the quality. I have a nice steak with seafood appetizer. The wine by the glass choices were not great but fairly priced. read more

This restaurant was near our hotel and seemed to have decent reviews.Also our hotel recommended it. We asked our hotel if they could make a reservation for us.They called and were informed they were closed Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Odd. That should of been an indicator but we went ahead and booked for Wednesday. When we arrived the manager seemed almost annoyed. Maybe not, just a bad vibe. I opened the menu and noticed they had a prix fixe menu so I inquired. He abruptly said that was for lunch only. I had read several reviews about the prix fixe menu so I knew he was uniformed. Also I dont think they are open for lunch at all. At that point we should of just left but we were tired and hungry. When it came time to order a wine we mentioned we were from the Napa Valley California wine country. He quickly smirked shook his head and said its not the same. It seemed he went out of his way to make us uncomfortable. The 2 stars is because the food was decent but we wont return. read more

When I envisioned French dining prior to this trip, this is what I had in mind! The food was AMAZING, the wine was great, and the service was wonderful. If you are staying anywhere in the Opera House area, add this to your list! The escargot was easily the best I've ever had. We also had crab stuffed ravioli as a starter that I still daydream about! Wow! Just wow! I took some time in writing this review to let my thoughts simmer a bit. There are few things i yearn for and even fewer yet that I dream about after a vacation, but this place falls into both of those categories. My wife and I did a simple google search for restaurants in Paris after visiting the Galleria Lafayette and this small but wonderfully quaint restaurant with a 40's vibe popped up. It was a complete stumble upon for both of us. We ordered Escargot to start, a steak with truffle sauce and a chocolate truffle for desert. God, I wish I could get a steak like that in the US. It was SO good we came back a second time after going to the Printemps four days later. It was the epitome of what i would now call french cuisine. The service is second to none, and even though they don't speak a whole lot of English they will treat you like an honored guest. when you're in the Galleria Lafayette/Printemps neighborhood I highly recommend you stop in for a truly French experience. read more

The reviews were very good and so I had high expectations. The meal was disappointing. First, despite the fact that the restaurant was not at all full, service was incredibly slow and not welcoming. Our two course meal took two full hours. Our empty plates were left for almost a half hour before they were taken away. The proprietress made us order dessert at the beginning of the meal and yet we still waited for ages to be served them. Second, the food was mediocre at best. Le Madeleine C. is a wonderful family-run restaurant not far from the Paris Opera House, L'eglise de la Madeleine and Boulevard Haussmann on a little side street. It's definitely worth tracking down, as we did for a late dinner one night when we were craving French-prepared seafood. (Be aware at least one other cafe in the area has "Madeleine" in its name, so be sure you end up at the right spot!) Despite our language differences, we found ourselves communicating well with the owner and server Andre, who helped us select exactly the right wine. We shared an appetizer of escargot and a beautiful, basic salad. Then my husband had sautéed scallops and I ordered a filet of sea bass that was cooked perfectly, light with crispy skin and served with fresh vegetables. All of it was delicious. After our meal, Andre and Pascala, who'd emerged from the kitchen, were such fun to chat with - even though we spoke mostly English and they mostly French. Their son Paul, who also worked as a cook, soon joined in, serving as translator of sorts as we talked of food and world events. A delightful evening. read more
