I had a horrible experience at PS Whittwood grooming salon last Sun. My dog's coat is ruined. Yes, it'll grow back. But, I'm sad big chunks of hair R missing on his sides, around his neck. It's uneven everywhere. 1 side of the hair on his head has been chopped, jaggedly--the other side left long & untouched. He was traumatized & wouldn't eat dinner that night or breakfast the next day. I've been upset about this nightmare since I brought him home. Spoke to the store manager, Lorraina (may not be correct spelling) on Mon. pm by phone. She had no explanation; wasn't aware of the issues; & was going to "look into it." Offered 4 me to bring dog back. Really? No thanks! I've had no return call. Am quite sure I'll never know what went terribly wrong, but I know I will never go back. I am posting this in such detail in hopes it'll keep others from bringing their beloved pets to this location for grooming. Don't do it! Shame on me for not reading the other bad Yelp reviews posted B 4 I made the last appt. I found out too late, sadly, mine was not a unique bad experience. Here are the lengthy details:
I have a beautiful, gentle male Golden Retriever that I rescued a few years ago. He's a big boy: 100+ lbs. 4 years old. I brush him daily. He never has matted fur or fleas. I bathe him myself every month but a couple times a yr need him to get his locks/"feathers" trimmed when the weather gets warmer. I have always been happy w/the trims Daylee provided. Like the other posts, I, too, have noticed this time the place seemed dirty & staff less caring, more disorganized & less friendly. But, I always trusted Daylee & her grooming results were good...until last Sun.
I brought him in @ 10:25a for 10:30 appt. This is 1st time Daylee did not come out to talk to me, 1st. However, I'd spoken to her 1/2 hr before by phone when I called to make sure she was working as I had an appt w/her the Sun. prior, and it was cxld via vm couple hrs before bcs she called in sick. I rescheduled for this past Sun. When we arrived, I asked where she was. I was told she was "washing another dog" & asked another staffer to check my dog in. There are months between his appts. so I usually talk to her 1st. (We didn't discuss trim details on the phone.) The other staffer said, "There are notes in his file. If you don't want anything different, Daylee doesn't need to come C U." I don't like my dog to be in the kennel any longer than necessary so I asked if Daylee was going to start on him right away or if there would be a wait. (Then I would just walk him around the store or come back.) I was told, "You have a 10:30 appt. She will start on him now." How do you know? You don't. All the washing goes on in the back behind closed doors. But, again, I trusted Daylee.
A few hrs went by. No missed call or vm. I was busy at home spraying yard/washing his bedding. By 2:30p (4 hours later) I was about 2 call to C what was taking so long when Daylee phoned. She was nervous & agitated. She said she was having such a difficult time because my dog "just has so much hair. It's all over. I had to use conditioner." The amt of my dog's hair, it's texture, etc., does not change. No surprises. He also has skin allergies. I bring my own shampoo & have in the notes he is not to have other products put on him. (A note on PS conditioner: the 1st time I brought him, I was asked if I wanted it, but it was an xtra charge. I declined bcs of the allergy issue. I was told 'confidentially' conditioner is "added to the water anyway." So, if U decline, U aren't charged & you get it. But if U agree, you get an upcharge!)
Then she asks me if my dog has put on weight. Yes, only a lb or 2. She proceeds to tell me he will not stand 4 her & bcs of that she can't trim him in the back. (& how does this explain why his head hair is such a mess?!) Odd. Never had that problem before. He stands; we go on long walks every night. I offer to come & help hold him up. D: You can't. PS policy is no customers behind the counter. Ok. There r rules. Me: Can't another staffer help so U can finish the job? D: U have to book that in advance. It's an xtra $7.50 every 15 min. I est. I'll need at least another 1/2 hr to 45 min, but no one is available. What do U want to do?" Really? What R my options?! You're telling me you can't finish the job; I'm prohibited from helping; & even if I pay more than the $67 big dog fee, I didn't make an appt. 4 the 2nd helper so..?" She tells me I won't be charged bcs she wasn't able to finish the job. As if that makes it all ok?! She's shouting back & forth to "her manager" while we are talking so I don't think asking for her will help. I can't believe this. I'd prefer to pay & have trim done right. Now i'm concerned to just get my dog out of there. When I arrive 15 min later, I'm told Daylee isn't available. My dog stands entire time while they go "find" my shampoo. Other dogs R sitting/crying/shaking on the tables. U be the judge. I say just, pls, stay away from here! read more
