Before I explain my 1 star review for the salon, I want to be clear that the Doggy Day Camp folks are phenomenal here--friendly and caring toward the animals. It's the salon that is awful. The workers are rude and clearly not interested in attempting any customer service. I was not informed that my dog had been cut while having his nails clipped and was bleeding until I asked about it when he bled as he left and then it was blamed on my dog. They also need to get their times straight in terms of how long a service will take so pick up time is clear. Neither of these issues is a big deal if people are polite. It's the rudeness that's just not something one should have to deal with, especially after paying for a service. I should have read all the negative reviews before coming here. Yesterday I had an appointment for my Maltese to be groomed. I wasn't greeted by Terrence and felt the atmosphere to be unfriendly. Immediately I was told that my Maltese needed to be shaved very low because of some mats that were located on his legs and his belly. This Petsmart is notorious to take the easy way of grooming and shave down the dog. Even though they charge a dematting fee, they fail to brush out one simple mat and would rather shave the dog. They will offer the owner to take the dog home, miss the appointment and brush the mat out themselves. When I asked to speak with Darma M. who was scheduled to groom my dog so I could show her how I would like her to blend the #4 blade with the # 5 on the legs that were matted to the body, she refused to groom my dog saying that I was being aggressive. I was being emphatic that I didn't want my dog shaved down on the body and to take the time to blend the cut between the matted areas, belly and legs, with the back. read more

This is the worst place to get your dog groomed. I've done it a few times hoping it was specific groomers because it's so close to where I live. The truth is they're busy so quality suffers. I will no longer come to the PetSmart groomer because each time my dog comes back looking worse lol. Paws down, best decision we've made since getting her! She's super patient, not only with the puppies, but all of the owners! I love this place and so do my dogs! Especially the doggie hotel. They are so sweet and kind to my two dogs. They are always excited to see them and my dogs are always excited to go there. I can say it's the first place I have never felt guilty about leaving my dogs while on vacation. I know they're having a great time and being well taken care of. A year ago I was stuck somewhere because of a snowstorm in Virginia that shut everything down, one of the employees stayed with them to make sure they were ok. The groomers have always been extra sweet to them. My sister took her dogs to the Petsmart in fairfax and did not get the same treatment. She has now driven the extra few miles to Reston with her three legged dog and is more than happy with the service they provide. And trusts how her dogs will be treated. Everyone is fantastic but Jonathan at the doggie hotel is by far top notch when it comes to providing customer service. Instead she lectured me on not opening something until after I purchased it even though I clearly was not trying to hide it or avoid paying as I had it on the conveyor belt with all of my other items. I like this Petsmart location. It's convenient to my home, well stocked and logically organized, and the sales staff is friendly and helpful. Since I am a new pet owner, I have lots of questions which are addressed competently and personably by the seemingly knowledgeable staff. I appreciate the helpful hints and recommendations of respected literature so that I can better educate myself on how to train and care for my dog. I took my dog in for grooming and he seemed to have a great time being pampered. He practically smiled all the way home, looking dapper and enjoying the fuss made over him for being such a handsome boy. I've brought my dogs here a few times to get their nails cut. Usually they do a good job and are friendly. Today I walked into the grooming area into what I assume was some kind of lovers quarrel between groomer Anthony and another pets mart employee. The female employee stormed out after I came in. At that point, the groomers Anthony and Jonathan unprofessionally talked about the dispute. Jonathan than asked Anthony for a ride home because his parents were at the movies with his grandma. They then discussed where Leesburg is. I was definitely not their priority. After they cut my dogs nails several people started coming in to pick up their dogs. At this point, I didn't know if Anthony was talking to me or the other customers and they seemed just as confused. The did an ok job on the nails but it was uncomfortable and unprofessional. Also the girl at the only open cash register moved at a snails pace. read more

Pethotel left us stranded the day of boarding. I will never go here again. We scheduled to board our cat with this facility 2 weeks in advance. When we arrived The staff at reception was rude and unfriendly from the beginning. We had completed all the paperwork and disclosed our animals health issues (she is blind and takes some medication) at the initial booking call 2 weeks prior. They spent about 30 minutes in the lobby and kennel area , talking amongst themselves and not sharing with us any issues, before coming back out to say they wouldn't accept her as a boarding guest due to her health concerns and blindness- WHICH THEY KNEW ABOUT WHEN THEY ACCEPTED OUR RESERVATION. we were left stuck on the day of our flight with no place to take her. I can understand their concern about liability, but accepting a reservation with the health issues stated then telling us day of she couldn't stay AND MOSTLY THE REALLY POOR ATTITUDE AND TREATMENT BY THE STAFF earns my one star review. read more

The staff here is not helpful at all. We mentioned to them that we were first time dog owner and they didn't seem to care at all. Every question we asked was met with " I don't know about that." It seems like their staff is not knowledgeable about the animals at all and had no interest in finding out the answer for us. We had a completely different experience in Petco where the workers so happy to see our dog and offer us advise on issues we didn't even ask about. Note: This review is *only* for the grooming services. This review does not apply to this location's other services (store, vet, kennel). Yesterday, my husband brought our dog in for a bath and nail grinding. He was there for about 3.5 hours. When we got him home, we discovered that his nails had not been touched. I called this morning and asked if we could bring him back to get the nail grinding done. I was transferred to a manager, who apologized for the problem and assured me that we could bring him in anytime, as nail grinding is a walk-in service, and took our name so that we could be seen immediately. My husband brought our dog back just now, only to be told that because our dog is supposedly a biter, they couldn't do the service. When he asked why we'd been charged for something they didn't do, he was referred to the same manager. The manager refunded the money, so we have no complaint with her; however: 1. The groomers lied, charging us for a service they did not perform. 2. They did not tell us that they couldn't do his nails; we would have taken him elsewhere if they had. 3. The groomers failed to tell the manager about the issue, so we came back for nothing. My husband took our dog over to the Banfield vet, who kindly cut his nails on the spot (and, I might add, without any biting issues).' Although we will continue to use the vet and kennel services, we absolutely cannot recommend the groomers, and we warn anyone who does to be sure you actually get what you're charged for. read more

Do not take your pets here for grooming. Our family friend took their dog two days ago for grooming and they cut him so many times he died from infections last night. He was a happy dog and nothing was wrong with him. We also took our dog here once and they cut him by going over a mile without paying attention. Invest in a mobile groomer or a good personal groomer, or do it yourself. Your pet's life depends on it. Also, the $50 you save on a cheap groomer you pay for when you have to take your pet to the hospital. read more

I've been going to PetSmart grooming for 8 years and have always had a positive experience until I moved to VA. The groomers at Reston (Spectrum Center) are great but every time you make an appointment online, you get a call from Maria asking you to change your appointment time. When you say no, she becomes very rude, combative, and makes you feel like it's your problem their scheduling system is messed up. This has happened no less than 3 times in a row. I have my 4lb Yorkie, who is 10yrs old, groomed at this location every month. His normal groomer, Chrissie, who is FABULOUS, was out sick today, though we had a scheduled appointment for this morning. When I went to retrieve my dog, I noticed right away that the trimming on his face was very uneven and not done well. I also noticed that my dog did not smell like he'd been washed and his face was still pretty dirty. I was also pissed that he had no 'pawgress' report, because his stand-in groomer, James, 'just didn't have time' to prepare one. After several hours to calm down, I called the store. I asked to speak to the grooming mgr, who would not be available until 21 Sept, and then reported, to James the groomer, about my poor experience today. He did not offer an apology, and promptly transferred me to the store mgr. The store mgr on duty was almost as bad as James. She didn't know when the 'other' store mgr was coming in and she couldn't 'do anything' for me. This whole experience was a customer service NIGHTMARE. I am now forced to call tomorrow, to be offered a 'comp' grooming, which I do not want. Note to everyone: if you use this location's grooming services, ask for Chrissie! If you get James, be prepared to be upset! read more

I had an absolutely horrible experience boarding my dog at this facility. When I came to get her, she obviously lost weight and seemed low energy. I was told that everything was good when I checked in on her several times during my trip. I took her to my vet who told me she had caught a very bad cold. The staff thought everything was good with her and I would never, ever trust my dog to them again! This is a terrible place to board your beloved pet. read more

Only nice thing to say is that our dogs came back to us alive. Something happened at the Reston Petsmart hotel and no one there would give us a straight answer. Our very socialized young dog came back to us terrified of all people and scared of any loud noise after a single night there. **This review is for the PetsHotel/Doggie Day Camp.** My dog is a regular at the Tysons location, which is currently closed due to COVID - luckily, the Reston spot was a perfect substitute! The facility was clean and spacious, employees were friendly, efficient and so sweet to my dog (who had a great time and arrived home exhausted!) and the staff maintains an active Instagram account detailing the day's activities, which is a lot of fun for pet parents. I even received a call a few days later asking how his stay had been, as it was his first time at that location. My dog's experience here further solidified PetSmart as my first choice for boarding and day camp. read more

I call a week in advance to make an appointment to get my dog a hair cut and get his nails trim. I was informed that the earliest appointment that they had available was April 13 @ 7 AM or 7"30 AM I choose 7:30 AM. When I arrive April 13 for my appointment at 7:30AM there only one emplyeee in the glooming department and no dogs or cat be gloom. I was informed that I had to reschdule my appointment. When I ask why, I was informed that they are overbooked for the day. I pick up my dog and walk out of the store. I will never go back there again to get my dog hair gloom. Since I am not value as a customer I will take my business to some place that values their customer. read more

We take our dog for Doggy Day Care some times. He loves it there. Staff is friendly, and they take good care of him. He comes home tired every time. At the end of the day you also receive a report card, so you know what he did all day. I alway feel its a nice touch. In the store selection of dog treats and other items are also great! read more

It used to take 3 hours from drop off to pickup time and last time it was 2. It showed that the groomer was rushing because the cut wasn't good. She missed quite a few areas. This is one of my favorite locations-probably because its local, but I have been to the Sterling store and Fairfax, I find the people here much more friendlier and the layout easier to navigate. On the weekends they do pet adoptions, so I sometimes like to come here to see the homeless cats and dogs. Have never used their grooming services though I called to schedule an appt for my persian once and that was like pulling teeth, there are very limited time slots available for cat grooming. Never used the pet hotel, but the dogs in there seem very happy. I have used the vet, Banfield, please see my review, the staff seems very friendly and my cats are at ease with them which is a good sign-there are just other issues that I am not satisfied with. The bad: It seems like they run low on things and don't stock up that quickly. My cats are on Natural Instinct wet food and the Kitten food is always out. The chicken flavor is always low-that's a little frustrating. read more

I have come here few times for my Dog's grooming and they normal do good job. But today I have given my dog for a furmunator bath since he shed during summer. He is a Siberian husky. John was the gentle man who groomed my dog. He also mentioned he removed/brushed lot of hair and clearly nothing was removed. I could still see the same patch of shedding hair which I removed partially before giving him for grooming. Also I am damn sure that they didn't apply any shampoo. I know this because usually he smells really good after a shampoo bath. And there is a particular that always comes when he is just into water and dried up. Today he was exactly smelling like that. I have nothing but great things to say about the PetSmart Doggie DayCamp and Boarding staff. They are always helpful and friendly, and seem to genuinely care about my dog. I have used the boarding and doggie day camp services several times, and I have faith that my dog is in good hands. He comes back happy and is always excited to be dropped off. Each staff member has gone out of their way to do something extra special every time I go. It's not an easy job wrangling all of those dogs, and they do it really well. Felt like I got scammed. I called a head of time to schedule an appointment to take my 3 months old poodle in for a puppy trim. I was told by the salon staffs that the puppy trim service includes wash & blow dry, nail trim, and ear cleaning (I confirm over the phone that they would clean and pluck the hair out of the puppy's ear) all for $20. I was a very happy customer when I dropped off my dog but was not as happy as I expected to be when I picked up my dog. Her bottom was unprofessionally shaved with strands of hair still hanging out weirdly. Her ears look like they were never touched with bunch of hair and dirt still there. I'm not even sure if her nails are trimmed... they seriously look the same as when I left her. Only thing I can be sure is they washed and blow dried her. I feel like I was scammed and not getting what I was promised. So, I'll never come back to this place for my dog grooming service. Two stars are for the fact that staffs seem nice. read more

I am not going to lie...I am one of "those "dog people. I spoil my pups. I often stop here because it is close to home. Of late I have been rather disappointed in the selection of leash and harness and treat options. But my biggest complaint is from my last visit. I was strolling around picking up random things for my pups and the cashier approaches me. 'Are you ready to check out yet? Ya know...cause the stores like almost empty and we close soon". Our senior dog boarded with them during this past Christmas holiday and never again will we back! The staff "lost" the brand new, dry dog food that I checked in with our dog. So they decided to feed her one of their grain-free products. They said they were going to call me back about it after they ask the 2nd shift crew but that never happened. Also,they didn't bother to call the owner (me) to double check before giving their choice of food to my dog. Day of pick up, my dog had the bowel issues. I brought her to her vet the following day and received a $175.00 vet bill because of viral infection in her stomach from the food and an ear infection. This location seems to have a communication issue and questionable sanitized boarding area. read more

The grooming prices are iffy. Just moved to the area from Richmond VA and the basic bath and brush already costs 5 dollars more for no reason at all. In Richmond at any location they would spritz my dog with the lovely scent at no extra cost...I can imagine it only takes so much as I have a 6 lb chihuahua. I scheduled a 2nd grooming visit for my dog on a Sunday morning and the price increased 5 more dollars...as a "weekend fee" is what I was told. Why do I have to pay more for hourly people to do the same basic service they would've given at 7 pm on a Friday night? We're not coming back. read more

Went in to set up an old aquarium for my husband's birthday. Tyler was soooo helpful and he really knows his stuff about fish and aquariums. I have never had an aquarium so I was starting from scratch. He wrote everything down for me, step by step. This was the very worst experience I've ever had boarding my cats. It started with PetSmart informing use hours before our trip on a Friday night that our cats needed physicals even though we had given them the info on the cats a week in advanced- that cost us $400 for two cats to have emergency physicals. Then, while on the trip, they called us several times with "medical issues"- one cat had diarrhea and the other wouldn't use the box. Which prompted them to tell us that we had to take an emergency flight back that moment to pick them up or to pay them to let their vets experiment on the cats. Obviously we couldn't just fly back that moment, so the PetSmart vets did their thing, charging us an addition $1700 for the 4 days of stay. Once the cats returned, one of cats started pooping everywhere in the house and has declined in health ever since. It still continues today, and I don't know why or whether the experience at PetSmart did that to her, but the experience for 4 days there cost us $2100 for two cats and now one of them is dying. I will never do anything with PetSmart again- this happened in October and and it still effects us financially and emotionally today. Using PetSmart was one of the worst decisions of my family has made. Spend a little more money on a real overnight boarding place for your pets- it will be way cheaper in the end and hopefully your pets will still be ok when you return. read more

Dropped off my shih tzu this morning at 9:20 for a 9:00 appointment. Okay, my bad. Darma M. greeted me harshly with "You know you're late for your appointment?" She skipped by the whole "Good morning" part and went right into surly. She acted very incensed and wanted to be sure that I knew I was at fault. She said she took another dog already and it was impossible to now take my dog. Hmm. Another dog? Do you take walk-ins? Did you take another dog who was already there for another groomer? No explanation. Okay, whatever. I rescheduled but at no time was there a courteous comment, or "I'm so sorry but our policy is...". Her objective was to cast blame. Darma wanted to be sure that I knew I pissed her off. Spoke to the manager before I left. Not sure why. The only power I have is to take my business elsewhere. I will keep the next appt bc my dog is desperate for a haircut, but will henceforth take my business to one of the several smaller groomers in the area. It's nice to have options. read more

We are absolutely furious. We just moved into Reston and have loved going to the PetSmart in Chantilly for years. Our bulldog has been going to doggie day camp for their for over 2 years. He first two times we took our dog to this location I brought her in for day camp (playing all day) to find out she was just in a crate all day for day care. After picking her up and getting upset the magnet stated that day camp was full so she just stayed in the crate. THERE WAS NO MENTION OF THIS WHEN I DROPPED MY DOG. We are never taking our dog here again and if you go here make sure they aren't charging you for "camp" when you dog gets "care" read more

Took our puppy today to get the puppy bath which includes a myriad of services. I went to check her ears last night and they were filthy. Her nails are jagged and they blew dry her hair to give her a part in the middle- she looks like a completely different dog.
