I have been using Pet Elf for my cat sitter needs for over 2 years. I was away in January for almost the whole month. Karen O, my sitter, went above and beyond as one of my cats stopped eating. We coordinated multiple home visits, a vet appointment, and post care for my cat. He is doing fine now. Without Karen's assistance and dedication my cat may have died. I also want to give a shout out to Karla, the owner. Due to the ice storm, my condo entrance was buried under 2 feet of ice. She went to visit my cats and found the blockade and let me know. I had to hire a team to dig me out. Karla was able to get access and check my cats. I came home the next day and was also able to get into my condo. I moved to Reston a year ago and found the Pet Elf. Our "Elf" takes excellent care of our 2 cats when we are away. When we return the cats are content, the food and water bowls are clean and filled, and the litter has been taken care of (certainly not an always pleasant task). We were matched with a delightful couple, Carmen and Pat, who came to do an initial meet and greet at my house. From the second they walked I knew they would be a great fit! During their stay, they took excellent care of my fur babies, updating me via text with pictures included! Now it's several years after that first experience and we are still just as pleased with our experience...peace of mind personified. We went back home to CT for Christmas, and we left our two cats in the care of Dana while we were gone. She came for a consultation beforehand to meet them and see where everything is that they would need - we liked and trusted her right away. She did a great job, left detailed notes every day she visited and was always available via text for us to check in with. The reason I almost gave four stars: I knew from the beginning that they had a policy stating no visits could be skipped during the duration of the cat-sitting. This, to me, meant that the "no skipping" would begin once the services actually began. We were leaving the night of Friday the 23rd, and we planned on leaving the cats alone for the weekend, since... they're cats. Trust me, I love my cats probably more than anyone on this planet loves anything, but they don't need to be visited when we've been gone for 48 hours. They aren't babies. They don't even really like people. And we have self-filling food and water, so they would have been totally fine until Dana was scheduled to come on Monday. So during our consultation with her, I mentioned in passing that even though her first day visiting would be Monday, we would be leaving Friday night. The next day, I received an email letting me know I was in violation of the "no skipping policy" by having them not come until Monday, and that they insisted upon coming both of the preceding days, resulting in $25 more for Saturday and $50 more for Sunday with the Christmas surcharge. Again, I love my cats, but come on. I couldn't help but feel like they impose this policy to maximize the amount of money they're making. Why is it not my choice to decide what day I want the visits to start? If these were dogs, I could understand the slightly judgmental-feeling inflexibility, but I think we all know that cats can be alone for a day or two without a babysitter. In other words, if you plan on sneaking an extra day or two past them, make sure you don't mention it. But all that aside, this is a reliable and trustworthy pet-sitting service that I'd have no problems recommending (Dana especially.) read more

I can always rest easy knowing the the Pet Elf is caring for my cat. I have a pretty fussy cat who is afraid of strangers, but the Pet Elf is very patient with her and she always warms up to them. They don't just watch after my pet either! My home is cared for, my mail is picked up, any packages are brought in, and they let me know if anything is awry in the house. Amazing. Professional. Reliable. Wonderful Communicators... Pat and Carmen did an outstanding, near mind blowing job taking care of our two dogs while we were gone for almost a week. When we got home, both dogs were absolutely calm, chilled out, well exercised and not the *least* bit agitated. Both pretty much looked up like "Oh, hey, you're back? Cool." The house was in perfect order, the dogs were happy but not the least bit stressed. What an amazing service provided; What amazing people. I started using The Pet Elf a few years back, for visits with 2 older cats. One cat needed pills and insulin, lots of water, newspapers all over the floor changed out. My cat sitter extraordinaire, Karen, handled all of my cat's needs beautifully. I could finally get away for a few days at a time! Without worrying or fussing, and that was really freeing. Those cats have since passed over the Rainbow Bridge, and I now have a younger cat, in good health. I've needed to do some traveling, and Karen once more has stepped in, reliable and caring with my cat Iris. Also, I can tailor Iris' visits. For instance, I prefer less time spent on each visit with tidying around the litter box area, and more time spent with play. Iris loves Karen, because she follows the regular routine, but also plays and pets. Iris is not into cuddles normally, but will climb into Karen's lap. That is a testament to consistent care and bonding. The Pet Elf is the way to go for pet care. I know someone will be there, as they have back up sitters built in. And the sitter does always do a clean up when the last visit approaches Once I'm home, I have daily sitter notes, informing me of any issues, or fun things too. We contacted the Pet Elf for cat care for a trip overseas at the end of August. This was the first time in this arrangement, and we were assigned Karen, since she had the most experience with cats with pills, and one of our two elderly cats doesn't always willingly eat the pill pockets. All I can say is WOW, Karen was amazing. The cats loved her, and she provided great care, and day to day recording of how the cats were doing, in addition to other texts and emails.
