I love canine carousel! Although I live in New York I actually wait until I visit family in Virginia to get my dog groomed. Canine carousel is really the only grooming company that I trust! Blu has had a few bad experiences with groomers in New York but at canine carousel, he feels like he's at home. Chrissy, our groomer, goes above and beyond to accommodate us and blu always leaves looking like a brand new dog. He recently got the cutest haircut with dog friendly dye. I love coming to canine carousel because they are really knowledgable about dogs. As a first time dog owner, it's really helpful to have a groomer who can give helpful advice--like how often my dog should be groomed, what's the best food, etc. This family owned, business makes my dog feel like he's a part of his family. His face was all cut up. Print really is a loving dog but came home scared for his life. He is normally very friendly. I, nor my sister or anyone in our family have ever had issues with having him groomed or him being anywhere or around anyone. Never gave anyone or a groomer for that matter any issues. Charging as much as you do for a pet to be groomed, they should get the royal treatment, not battle wounds. I love my Print Print (as i do my own dog) and I go above and beyond for my sisters dog so I must tell my experience. The owner of this establishment complained to Yelp with false truths urging yelp to remove my original review stating I did not have first hand knowledge. My first hand knowledge is my picking up my sisters dog from this place and seeing with my own eyes that he was traumatized. Canine Carousel if you are as good as you say you are, one (or a few negatives reviews based on yelp) should not impact your business. If this establishment were made up of true professionals, you would see my experience for what is was and try to learn from it and do better!!!!!! My almost four year old Shih Tzu had been going to the Ashburn location until a few weeks ago. I had noticed his increasing hesitation to stay when dropping him off so when I picked him up from his appointment this time, I asked the receptionist how he did. Her response was that he is usually put in the "quiet room" when he's here. I asked why and she said that dogs who "bark too much" are put in there. WHAT!! I was surprised and had lots of questions swirling in my head to ask the owner. I spoke with Lil a few days later who told me that my dog was in their system as a "barker" and I had to remind her that my dog doesn't bark- he whines. I kept insisting that she explain what the "quiet room" was and she finally admitted that it was one of the two BATHROOMS!! Unacceptable!! She mentioned a "push through" system where I cound pay an extra $30 and have him moved to the front of the grooming scheduIe- NOT. I am saddened to leave this establishment. My dog always looked beautiful after his grooming. I wrote this review so that others could be aware of this practice. read more

I don't understand the bad reviews. We have used Canine Carousel since the original Herndon location where they used to groom our last dog, who had horrible anxiety, but the CC groomers always did the best they could with her. Today we frequent the Ashburn location for our two pups, a shih tzu and an anxious chihuahua, and they are great with both. Learning from our last dog, we knew that the shih tzu was going to need constant grooming, so we started working with her at home to practice as soon as we got her (3 months), with daily brushing, desensitization of buzzing or clipping sounds near her, etc. She got an A+ grade on her first visit and has been a regular client ever since. Both dogs are groomed by Sundown and they are the best! I don't know how they are able to clip our whiny, squirmy chihuahua's nails, but its done quickly and better than anything we can do with her at home, so I'm always grateful to have them take care of it. Extra bonus that they are conveniently located as well! I love being able to support small, family owned business. read more

I took my King Charles Cav last Friday for a trim. I had been letting my dogs ears grown for 6 months and they were ready for a little trim to even them out. I requested the groomer to just trim the most one inch. Omg... she chopped at least 3 inches and worse of all, she rounded the ears in LAYERS!!!!! Super uneven unprofessional. Also I noticed the legs were not even trimmed, the tail was swiping the floor (not trimmed neither), some parts of abdomen with holes. I finally spoke to manager today. While explaining my disappointment she was cutting me of with excuses. She finally apologized after a long time conversation. The groomer never did. I requested refund, she said she doesn't do that, that she will give $25 discount next time!! I'm not going next time!! Stay away from that place. It is hard to understand what has happened to this business. Once a good grooming option, is now unpleasant, untrustworthy, rude, and overpriced. While the actual groomers have done a decent job over time, the two older ladies, in particular the manager, appear very intolerant at best of dogs and their care. They are rude to their customers and seem to have little interest, really disdain, in caring for the dogs entrusted to them. Anything you may request that inconveniences the staff in any way or requires any extra effort from them is quickly met with extremely rude attitudes. They are quick to make you feel that you are an imposition to them. Having been a many year customer, it is unfortunate and shocking to see the quality of this business decline so significantly over time at the hands of the management, while adding insult to injury with their overpriced and almost silly "up charges". We have shared our experience with other current and former clients and heard similar and worse experiences to ours, many of whom have written reviews as well. Based on the attitude of the manager and her staff alone, I would be very careful entrusting your pet to their care. We will not return. read more

Canine Carousel is absolutely amazing! Both Nikki and Chrissy (Chrissy is at their Herndon location) do an excellent job grooming my two little dogs (as well as my mom's dogs and most of my friends' dogs). After their "spa treatments" I ALWAYS get a ton of compliments about how cute they are! More importantly, you can tell how much they sincerely care about each and every animal that comes through the door. My dogs do NOT like baths and they are generally pretty scared around other dogs. But as soon as they see Nikki or Chrissy, they perk up and their tails start wagging! I can't imagine leaving them with anyone else and feeling completely at ease. When this location first opened, I was truly amazed by the huge selection in the store. I figured in a "boutique" setting like this, everything would be a little overpriced, but I was surprised at how reasonable their prices are. You can tell that they spend a lot of time deciding what to sell in their store, as everything is of extremely high quality. And the customer service here is unreal! The owners have even walked through the store with me explaining the benefits of various items. It is a real mom and pop shop and the family who owns it is one of the sweetest families I have ever met! Lil has been in the industry for many years and will give you amazing advice about pretty much anything dog related. (Take her advice. She knows what she's talking about.) If you catch Morris there, ask him about the food and he will make sure you get the one that is best for your furry friend. He is incredibly knowledgeable (although I'm sure that anyone working there could assist you with this as well). I never hesitate to recommend Canine Carousel to anyone, because I know that they take extremely good care of all of their customers, especially the four legged ones! read more

Was extremely happy with this place when it first opened. Then gradually, it went down hill. Their "up charges" have gotten ridiculous. Nobody can afford to pay $80 a month to take their dog to the groomer. Cut it out with the "no pattern fee". Last time I took our dog there, my parents ended up picking him up for us because we were held up at work. When they arrived, our dog was dripping blood from one of his paws. They cut his nails down so short that he bleed on and off for almost two days. We had to visit the vet just in case. Worst part, the groomer didn't seem remorseful whatsoever and just acted like this was a normal thing for his breed. Well...out of his 10 years, we've never had an issue. We understand accidents happen, but being rude when responding to your customers about an issue is not the way to handle the situation. On a side note, I have walked in twice now to the groomers in the back complaining about a dog and/or their owner. Leaving my dog at the groomers isn't something I love to do. Most people consider their pets as part of the family. I especially don't like the feeling of leaving my child with people who hate their job. They will no longer be seeing us or getting a referral from us. read more

I have a 50 lb goldendoodle named Bella and they do a wonderful job when I take her there. I like to keep my dog fluffy, as opposed to cutting all her hair off, and they always listen and do exactly what I want. I have taken my dog to other places in the past and was mortified by the job they did (i.e. at Petsmart). Also, they take great care of her while she is there and always come out and talk to me about Bella. I gave four stars instead of five stars, because they are expensive. read more

Today I dropped my dogs off to be groomed as they have been several times before. And then I go to work. AND THEN, almost two hours later I get a call from the receptionist saying the rabies vaccinations have expired according to their records and that they cannot groom them without an updated vaccine record. Stunned that they are JUST NOW letting me know this, I had to figure out of it was indeed accurate, or what was going on. So I call the new vet, whom I happen to know, and she says "bring them over and we will get them done for ya." So I call Canine Carousel BACK and said "OK, I will come by on my lunch hour, take them to get their shots and bring them right back." SHE SAID OK...so I arrive to pick them up and she says "Ok you can't bring them back for TWO WEEKS." I'm like "wait what? The vet said to you when you called that (because they have been vaccinated in the past)they are perfectly SAFE to groom after the shots??" And she says "Well our groomer isn't comfortable" I was just in awe that somehow a Groomer doesn't think an actual VET would know better than them? So now I've got to take the dogs all the way home, un-groomed. I made this appt over 5 days prior. They could have and should have notified me PRIOR to the appt. And trust me, they didn't care AT ALL about losing a customer. So just know that. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE. We took our 1.5 yr old here out of desperation - should have known something was wrong with this place when they were the only groomer we called that had an appointment the same day. First they called to complain that our puppy was barking and that we would need to come get him "as soon as he is done". Ok, great. No problem. (NEVER got such a call any of the other times he was groomed, but ok). So...SIX AND A HALF hours later (despite getting up to drop him off first thing in the morning to save him from being there all day) they called to say he was finished and we must come get him "right away because he is barking". Fine. Done- not like we would want to leave him there any longer anyway! So we get him home- he was not cut at all Like we asked, despite giving them several pics of past grooming. His face and head looked like a third grader cut it. I actually ended up cutting it myself- he looked ridiculous. The bad part actually starts here- they shaved him so closely that his paw pads were raw- pics available- and his private area- the same. He ended up with an infection and we are still weeding through the after effects of that. When they called us after repeated calls to them, they were quite smug about everything - oh yeah- "she said he was fidgety and barking the entire time, she had a hard time cutting him". Again, this beautiful dog was groomed very well in the past. It breaks our hearts to know we likely subjected our beautiful boy to rough handling - and poor treatment - as we would only assume based on their apparent frustration with him. Makes me sick to think about it. Please don't take your dogs Here. They shouldn't even be in the grooming business. I haven't even mentioned cost- it was $55 more than any of his prior grooming appointments. The cost was ridiculous. Plain and simple- Stay away. read more

Updated review from 5 stars two years ago to 2 stars due to some serious problems with miscommunication and accountability (owning up to their mistakes). The place has gone downhill in our last 2 visits since our first 3 visits. First, the last two times I did not get a phone call or message from them when the bathing and grooming was complete (they claim they did both times but I even checked with my phone carrier and there were no calls or messages from anyone that afternoon). I had to call both times just before they closed to asked why it's taking so long as it was over 5 hours, approaching 6 hours. My dog is elderly and I wish to reduce stress on him during these things. Very frustrating to have them not call me and especially not admit their problems in not making the call. Pretty basic stuff. Second, the bathing was inadequate, it almost seems like he wasn't bathed at all with severe amount of dander which was literally visible.... a powdery like residue on the coat. I know I could have done much better because I have done so. The manager did contact me but instead of taking responsibility, defended all of the issues with excuses and even suggested using other places and services ...no kidding, pretty insulting...they just don't want to deal with an older dog. Terrible customer service. The grooming from the haircut perspective was as usual quite nice and the only reason I gave 2 stars vs 1. I have asked for a refund on bath or a another shot for them to redeem themselves with me waiting. I will update again soon. read more

ONLY reason this is 2 stars and not 1 is because of how great they've been in the past and they do perform a great job on the grooming. Actual business attitude by one particular groomer completely ruined it as well as this garbage "No pattern fee" that they recently introduced (as if they weren't expensive already). Had the EXACT same experience as Nicole R. below. Been taking my Scottish Terrier there for the past couple years with no issues. Pay $75 each time because my wife and I choose to have him get a deep conditioning which helps with his dry skin. We've allowed his hair to grow out a bit in between cuts but it's never been an issue in the past. All of the sudden, the groomer calls me one day to rudely notify me that we there will be a $10 "No Pattern Fee" on top of his $75 charge. She explained rudely "yea, his hair is just out of control and he's just one big ball of matted hair". This was absolutely not true, but I agreed to pay. Once I arrived to pick him up, asked the young clerk if this was a new charge and she did say it was. Asked if I could speak to the groomer and the clerk went to go get her. She came back and said she was unavailable but then I hear this groomer bellowing from the back that he needs to be brought in once a month to avoid a no pattern fee. Yeah, no thanks!! Train this groomer to build a better rapport with customers or don't allow her to talk to customers at all.... Moved to Dog a Do Salon in Herndon and they are cheaper and MUCH nicer with me and my dog. read more

I have had our pup groomed here about 3-4 times and she has always gotten beautiful cuts. Unfortunately the last time we had her groomed here, she was the very last dog out of there when there were at least 4 dogs that were dropped off after her and it's a first come first served basis. The part that really bothered me about this was that come to find out, she had been there for over 8 hours and was never taken out of the kennel to potty or anything (which was disclosed by the groomer). Had she been taken out I would not be so upset still about it. The groomer had called and left me a VM to ask about the length of the cut (if it would be ok to shave her shorter due to some tangles we couldn't get out) and it took me about 30 min to get back to her with an answer so I understand there being some delay on her grooming but not as long as it had been. It was like that automatically put her at the end of the line I guess. We also always pay the little extra to have her teeth cleaned, and not once have I noticed her teeth actually being cleaner afterwards. I know this because I saw little pieces of food in between some teeth before grooming that were still there after grooming. While I think the front staff here are all wonderful and it's a great little place, we may not be bringing her back for anymore grooming here unfortunately due to the lack of care/potty break/or thoroughness, especially when the cost of grooming is not cheap. Aside from this experience we had always liked bringing our girl here, so it's pretty disappointing. read more
