We initially loved taking our doodles to get groomed here when Jina was the owner but they've changed ownership since then and we've decided to part ways with Pretty Paws. There have been several changes implemented due to new ownership: 1) They no longer have cage free grooming and they put our dogs into kennels while they wait for us to pick them back up 2) Prices have gone up about 2-3 times due to the rise of inflation which is understandable but wanted to share to other dog owners for awareness 3) They use an assembly line process for grooming which is faster so our large dogs are typically in and out within ~2 hours Although our doodles typically came out well groomed for the most part, they both began to dread coming in and felt more anxious than usual, which wasn't a good sign to us. Additionally, the new front desk staff (male) could work on his customer service etiquette as he has came off as condescending multiple times to both myself and my husband regarding the care of our dogs. Our other friends who also brought their dogs here have shared similar sentiments. This is not their fault, but the location can be challenging to get to during traffic hours (they close at 4PM Monday through Saturday) since it's right on 50 and a lot of cars are going out west. read more

I have been going here for over 6 years - I found the post I originally made about this place. WELL. 5 stars no longer applies. I moved away to NY for 6 months and when I came back I went straight to the same groomers my Pup had been to since he was a puppy. I called to make my usual appointment and was asked To resubmit veterinary information again in a rude manner. Then when I arrived I was greeted by a new face at the desk. A man who said he was hired to do everything the right way unlike "before". Yet when I Asked if they were under new Ownership the man said, "NO" Here are my following reasons for their 1 Star- 1. New ownership Yet the man at front desk outright told Me ownership did not change. WHY LIE About the switch? 2. Price- increased and they even charged me. Handling fee bc they said my Dog was unmanageable, yet, the previous owners LOVED HIM. 3.customer service- new guy upfront-He was unprofessional and unpleasant. I shouldn't have left my dog especially because I felt Something was off with this man's energy. But I summed it up to maybe he was having an Off" Day. He was just rude and unkind, unlike previous owners. He would go on and on about how he was there from out of state bc his mom was unwell so I also felt bad for him, but I was also on a tight schedule. I just found this to be extremely unprofessional. Get this- I tried something new with my pup for the first time and had his tail Colored ( safely of course bc this is practically my Son). The man comments- he's not a fan of Color but to each their own. That owners who dye their dogs should do their research on how bad it is for their pets... uh really? I just ignored his unwarranted opinion but was quite upset by it. 4. going to trust myself and my pups initial reaction when picking him up. He use to love Going to the groomers and now he's terrified. 5. I paid extra for teeth cleaning which I could tell was not done and they did not trim his dewclaws which was previously always cut. At pick up, even though I was trying to get out of there as much as my dog was, the man proceeded to lecture me about taking care of my dog at home, so that he is not so matted, and that is why they had to shave him all the way at this point, I was so traumatized I just wanted to get the heck out of there, so I just paid and left as unhappy as my pup was. Oh and before I could finish paying the man asked if I was going to tip bc it is customary... really!?! I'm in the service industry I'm well aware... We have been going to Pretty Paws for maybe 13-14yrs even before Jina took over the business and has always been very happy with them. Sadly- with the new change of ownership we are never coming back. Started bad already with the guy in charge reprimanding me for emailing them instead of calling for an appt which is what i have for many years. Oh well m-I thought he was just having a bad day. Grooming day came and the same man is there again- very rude and condescending. He has the audacity tp lecture me about my dog's coat, eyes etcetc and adds (for the 5th time that he use to be a vet tech or vet wanna be-not sure). Excuse me-we take care of our dog very well so no excuse to point out what you think is bad to make yourself look good!!! Sure he might have good intentions BUT clearly needs to learn his manners. Like many dog owners our dogs are our family members. I would never leave my dog with someone as rude and ill-mannered as that. I told him to his face that yes i read the other bad reviews in here and now I truly understand why. I've been taking my Maltese here for full grooming appointments for the past five years, and I've always been happy with the service! My dog is my fur baby, so taking him to a groomer I trust is really important to me. The employees are professional (on the phone and in person), they send a text reminder before your scheduled appointment, and they've always done a wonderful job cutting my dog's hair (haircuts complete with a colorful bandana). I especially love and appreciate how they have a gated area for dogs to wait in until their owners come pick them up (instead of crating them). We've been coming to Pretty Paws since 2008 (3 owners ago). They always do a stellar job on our dogs. They offer a 5% discount if you pay with cash, and grooming prices are according to your dog's weight and there are additional charges for any special add-ons like nail dremel, anal gland expression, etc... Our dogs have always come out better than anticipated and they smell amazing, so I keep coming back with each new furry family member. It seems people are being lied to by the new owners. They are under new ownership (I was working there when the change of ownership occurred) I I worked there from 2019-2022) and after I left is when it started to go down. Jina hasn't been owner since November of 2021. I left in May of 2022. Take it from a former employee who worked there knows what happened and was there during the change. I'm pretty sure most of the clients that were there when I was there aren't there now. They don't do business on Mondays anymore which is strange and doesn't surprise me. I take my pup Andy here all the time! Everytime I pick him up he looks adorable and smells great. Andy is pretty anxious but he's actually okay when I drop him off and is happy and clean when I pick him up. The workers here are very knowledgeable in what they do and ensure they understand what it is you want them to do for your little companion before taking your dog for their grooming. Phenomenal! I brought my 1 year old Shiba Inu in for a bath and nail trim around 12:30 and got a call to pick her up at 1:20. I was afraid it was because she was misbehaving, but nope! They were just done grooming her! I was worried bringing her in as she is a very anxious dogs and doesn't let strangers handle her well. Our Morkie had her very first grooming session ever because she was tired of her home haircuts. It was easy to make an appointment and they were clear with the process and pricing. It took about 2.5 hours to complete and we liked how they left our dog in a nice little play pen area instead of being caged up. I was a long-time (12 years) customer of Pretty Paws. Drove from McLean because their services were excellent. Tried to schedule an appointment the other day. I was told there was going to be a $30 upcharge because of the length of time between appointments. This came as a shock since they never told me of this and it wasn't listed on their website. Plus the fact I have been out of town over the past few months. This reeks of price gouging. My dog has been coming here for over 5 years and Jina was her groomer. My dog was used to her and we never heard a complaint about her. Now there's a new owner, he called me and then called my dad letting us both know our dog is ready for pick up. When I spoke with the owner on the phone he told me my dog is ready for pick up, I explained my mom will be picking her up in 40mins and I was also in a meeting for work. He asked if my mom spoke and understands English ? I said yes why? He went on to explain my dog is old and talk about how we shouldn't wait until her fur is long and matted because she's old. It felt like he was annoyed and then said I'll explain to your mom when she picks up Millie. I hung up. My dad received another call while he was working, calls back and the owner went on to explain about how old our dog is, and asked how long until someone picks her up because she is barking and disturbing people ???!! WHO SAYS THAT! And then my dad is flustered with work and this call couldn't let him think of a time but his own time when he'll get off work. He said could I pick her up between 3-4pm he said no this isn't a daycare? We know groomers aren't daycares next time don't say my dog will be ready in 4 hours. And then expect us to come in the minute you call ? There should be an hour grace period, we all may be stuck between work, traffic, kids. The point no one should talk to customers this way especially the new owner! Trust me I won't be bringing my OLD dog back so she doesn't annoy your poor soul. read more

The old ownership was FANTASTIC I had my appointments scheduled a year out at a time. The business was sold and I'm assuming the new owner is at the front desk now. She's cold abrasive and always has some kind of issue. My two experiences with her have been nothing but cold. I don't trust her with my dog. I've only heard horror stories from other guests as well. I was going to give her one last try today but again. A cold interaction when opening the door it was "who is this and do you have her leash" not hi how are you good morning nothing. I have NEVER taken a leash with me and I've never been asked to provide one. Needless to say. Get someone kind and that shows love for dogs at the front desk not some cold I'm better than you type of attitude. We are dropping off our family members and you need to respect your customers. Despite the recent negative reviews, I took my 15 week puppy here for her first professional bath and full groom ($75 w/o tip). For the service, I would give a 5/5 and for the haircut, I would give a 4/5. I had no issues with the staff / owners like the other reviews said. Scheduling an appointment was simple via email or text and I found the lady at the front very welcoming. For my pup's cut, I asked for a teddy bear haircut with a photo reference (attached) and the lady said that my puppy doesn't have enough hair around the muzzle area for the full look and I agreed but still asked for the general look. I feel like my puppy's head looks a little uneven or maybe I'm still getting used to her new look and some areas are not cut evenly. Overall, I would return in the future with clearer instructions and ask for a longer length for the body and legs and a bit shorter on the head. read more

It's been three years since I first came to Jina and the Pretty Paws location and they are STILL my go to! My puppy is usually done after 2-3 hours after drop off (they're fast!) & always looking fresh. Having a crazy work schedule, their always able to accommodate and find availability immediately. They do such a great job here that I travel farther out just to take my dog here. It normal takes about 2 hours for a full groom and haircut, but it's the definition of the works. Our Yorkie gets real shaggy so it's nice to have a place that can trim his legs and face. He always looks so happy when we pick him up too. We will definately be back! read more

I had an extremely disappointing experience at Pretty Paw Grooming and feel compelled to share my concerns. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to this establishment due to the negative effects it had on my beloved dog's health. Upon picking up my dog after a few grooming sessions, I immediately noticed something was wrong. My dog appeared extremely sick and lethargic as if he had been administered some form of sedation during the grooming process. This raised serious concerns for me as a pet owner, as my dog's well-being should be of utmost priority. For a full 48 hours following the grooming appointment, my poor baby remained in a state of drowsiness and sickness. He displayed a complete lack of appetite and thirst, leaving me deeply worried about his welfare. Also, I was surprised to be presented with a form to sign, stating that they would not be held responsible for any incidents or accidents that may occur during their care of my dog. As a devoted pet owner, I believe it is reasonable to expect a higher level of accountability from a professional service provider. I strongly advise pet owners to exercise caution when considering Pretty Paw Grooming for their furry companions. The health and safety of our pets should always be the top priority, and it is clear that this establishment falls short in that regard. I found a new growing for my baby and he has had two sessions without any issues. read more

It doesn't really matter that the owner seemed very nice or that they gave us a picture of our dog's haircut because they injured our dog. When we got our dog home and took her out of the carrier I noticed blood all over my hand, so I asked my wife to look at her to find out where the blood was coming from. After seeing swaths of blood on her sweatshirt, we realized the groomer cut her hind foot nail almost to the paw. This is absolutely unacceptable for a "professional" groomer to not know how to cut nails. Even playing Devil's Advocate and imagining the dog moved unexpectedly and this happens 1/1000 times, why didn't they tell us? We could have stopped by the PetSmart and bought a treatment. Clearly this is painful and the dog would have yelped. Instead, they chose to be deceitful. I will also note that we noticed right away in the car they didn't finish the nails. They seems very crudely cut and not filed at all. Overall, this groomer seemed to have a lack of effort and rushed. To list a few, they scalped her ear with the clippers and there is a small bald spot, her paw and ear hair is uneven (long strands not cut to the same length as rest of fur), and an overall just uneven. The only positive thing I will say is that the owner was polite, accurate with his estimate, but quite honestly none of that matters when you injure my pet!!!! It actually made my wife cry and traumatized an already timid dog. On top of this it was $60 for just a clipper cut. Stay away from these butchers. (See posted pictures) read more

They also let my dog out of a crate when waiting for me and let him play with another dog (I think the dog was their own); it's a small gesture but I greatly appreciate it. After having a disappointing experience at another grooming service, I called in to check my luck for a same day service. I got luck and had a 1PM appointment. As soon as I arrived at the salon, I was taken care of. Clean, nice place, welcoming people. They called me after 3 hours- which is pretty short comparing to other groomers I've been to. After I saw my pup, he looks really good. He looks exactly as what I told them. AND HE IS VERY HAPPY！He vowed to everyone before we leave. Definitely coming back in a month. read more

The ladies here did a great job with my pups. What drew me to this store is that they try to keep from caging your dogs and put them in a little waiting area where the dogs can be semi-free. They also weren't booked until the end of time - in fact, I called before/by midweek and was able to bring my dogs in that Saturday. When I dropped off my dogs, they made sure to listen closely to how I wanted the dogs to be groomed and they visibly took detailed notes for each dog. They also finished in under 4 hours! When I picked them up, they were happy and neither of them had any nicks on their skin and their claws/paws were fine. If you bring your dog here, they're open to you being as descriptive as possible in regards to how your dog should be groomed. I will definitely bring my little guys back. ***Sidenote: one of my pups is a complete perv. He likes to exert his dominance over ANY dog. I was hoping he would be on his best behavior while at Pretty Paws, but the ladies had to put him in one of the crates to keep him from harassing the other dogs. It was nice that they didn't look down at me or make me feel bad for having a creeper for a dog. This place is very nice. They are very professional and clean. My dog is a bit of a scaredy cat but they did a great job with him to the point he was just hanging out with the staff and not worried about us not being there. He was all stretched out and relaxed as if he were at home. I think they made him feel really relaxed and at home so he was not worried. They were super gentle and while I appreciated it, was wishing they would cut his hair a little shorter next time. Really sweet people and my dog approves :) read more
