Grooming is just not good. I do not know why it is so difficult for them. We have brought our dog in multiple times to get groomed and nearly every-time they forget or just neglect an area. This time we put in the notes "focus on paws and sanitary" since that's what they always seem to neglect. I even told them face to face when we went in to focus on those areas. When we picked him up his paws were awful. They said he peed while they were blow drying him so they had to stop. Why would you wash, blow dry, and then come back to trim the paws? That was clearly a lie since we were the ones to bring it up in the first place. He did not get a sanitary trim either and I'm guessing they didn't do the anal gland expression since he left streaks on our couch a day later. When we brought him back so they could finish, the lady behind the counter was pretty rude to the other employee. "Well are they going to pay for it??" The other employee seemed to be taking the blame when she wasn't even the one who trimmed and bathed him the 1st time. I can tell you the reason he peed is because he was caged up for 3 hrs. Yes, he is anxious going in there but the blow dryer didn't scare him. He puts his face right into a leaf blower at home. Then when we brought him back we had to wait 45 min. We have had horrible grooming experiences here. Pay lots of money for minimal effort. Employees seem to be doing the bare minimum and no one is held accountable. Go to Chews 4 Paws down the street and they will take care of your dog 10x better than Petsmart. Plus they don't have attitude. read more

Again at your closest store to your Corporate. Id expect this store to be a model for all but everyone other than Alyssa the cashier and the Young Black man Kenneth are so nice and respectful. Otherwise, im confused who runs that store because they don't do it very well. Never once seen a store location with so much preemptive measures and such a lack of security. Everyone knows Deer Valley is homeless central not to mention the hundreds if not thousands of dollars in product yall store like your smart robot litter machines. If you want to see a homeless man smoking crack, this is definitely the place. They clearly don't care about their customers opinions, nor care about their employees at all. Multiple issues including groomer losing control of dog that tore chunk of hair from our dog waiting to be groomed. Also arbitrary enforcement of policies that do not align with primary Pet Smart website. Highly do NOT recommend this location. I used Pet Smart grooming in Las Vegas for 20 years with nothing but rave reviews. My mother has used this location for over 15 years, for three different dogs and had been happy with them until now. Incident #1: We brought a dog, adopted from their inside rescue for a grooming. He had been bathed and brushed daily by us without incident but the groomer told us puppies often cannot be completely groomed the first time. I said he had been very good for us and I expected he would be very good about it, but she made me sign a paper that I would pay full price even if the full groom wasn't successful. I was uneasy about her willingness to try, but expected no problem. Fifteen minutes after dropping him, I was called that he was done. I promptly returned to be told apologetically the groomer had left for the day, but he was good for his bath and 'trim' (very little had been done.) Yes, I was expected to pay the full charge for bath and cut despite the limited work. I think the groomer just wanted to leave for the day! Two days later, Petco groomed our puppy beautifully with full cooperation and lots of puppy kisses. Incident #2: I took my mother's dog in for a much-needed groom as she was no longer capable of bringing him herself. We arrived on time to a line three people deep and no one working the front desk. Two groomers ignored us as did a third person who pushed past the line to assist the groomers. After waiting 15 minutes, I was finally 'helped' only to be told that the proof of vaccination was not acceptable as it was an invoice/record of the vaccinations given (along with dates given and the brands/types of vaccines), not an official rabies certificate. My mom has never been given anything else (same vet for 20 years) and has always used that in the past as proof. The dog had a valid rabies tag and dog license on his collar! She has kept every vet and groom record ever...she poured over files of paperwork from years past and found nothing like Pet Smart claimed she needed. They admitted they knew the dog was vaccinated, but claimed that it was their policy to have an 'official' certificate and people in the past had been wrong to accept it. However, Pet Smart's own site simply says they require written proof from a vet and do not accept rabies tags on their own or titers as proof. So this was a very arbitrary decision by this site, not corporate policy. Ironic as the corporate site is within blocks of this location. Additionally, one Pet Smart source explicitly states that they DO accept invoices from vets as proofs if it includes the pertinent information. (Interesting fact, it has been so long since Maricopa has had an incident of rabies from a dog that it is no longer deemed a concern from dog bites in the ER according to a Phoenix ER practitioner.) So this poor dog in serious need of being shaved down due to the heat and the limited ability of his owner to get grooming services was turned away. Pet Smart says they require written 'proof'--- vet records and a rabies tag should certainly suffice. To add INJURY to insult, while trying to resolve this, a groomer lost control of a dog they were returning to owner. The dog took a chunk of my mom's dog hair. The owner noticed the hair in his mouth and I said that he had torn it from my dog's head only to be 'corrected' by the groomer who claimed he picked the white, curly hair off the floor. (No dog other than ours had that color or coat.) The first thing my mom noticed when the dog was returned to her was the chunk of hair missing from right above his eye!! There is no way the groomer did not see the dog lunge and grab at our dog! read more

Buyer Beware! Epistylis in Tanks. On 3/4/2026, I purchased 5 neon tetras and added them to my stocked, fully established aquarium (0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, 20 nitrates planted). Unfortunately, these fish carried the dreaded Epistylis parasite, which caused the death of 11 neon tetras and 4 cherry barbs despite extensive treatment. Beware of purchasing fish from this location unless you have quarantine measures in place OR they can confirm treatment. read more

This is the second Petsmart location I have gone to, to get my dogs food. The first being on Bell road and 7th Ave. I have purchased Purina, Purina one (large breed), Purina one (standard), and Iams (large breed), and Iams (standard). EVERY BAG HAS HAD MEAL WORMS IN IT. I can't return the food as I empty the bags into an air tight container and toss the bag. I've cleaned the dog food containers, I've replaced the containers, I've swapped brands. At this point I believe all the local Petsmart in the area have this issue. It is probably a problem at the processing facility or the warehouse. I'm done shopping here. The only thing I've gotten after making Petsmart aware of this is coupons for more of their food. read more

We used to take our dog her first boarding at their pet hotel. I want to start off by saying that the employees are nice, and they would send me photos of our dog while we were gone. It was comforting. In July 2024, we left our dog there for a long weekend. We always dropped her off there even for overnight trips and we've never had a problem. We always pay for nail grinding, and for her to be bathed and brushed before we picked her up. A week later my child found a little black dot on our dog's head. And then another. And another. Upon inspection our dog was *infested* with dog lice. Really infested. We called the vet right away. Dog lice is species-specific, so our cats weren't in danger. They told us what we needed to do and we spent *hours* bathing her in special shampoo and brushing her (like in human hair). We had her professionally bathed and inspected and that was that. After we took her to the vet again, she told us that the *only* way for a dog to get dog ice is from another dog. The thing is the only time our dog is with another dog is at PetSmart. She hates dog parks and we only walk her at night so we don't see other dogs. There was no other contact with any dogs. Our vet also said that for an infestation that bad, it had to have been going on for a while; they're apparently very hard to see until it gets bad unless you look for them. Our dog has short hair so we don't brush her much, and we typically leave baths up to PetSmart, since that's the only place we take her to get groomed. We called PetSmart to tell them what happened and what the vet told us. They denied it, of course, and said they always inspect dogs when they're brought in. But if, according to our vet, she must had had it for a while, this means that PetSmart did not check her very thoroughly, if at all, AND she wasn't actually bathed or groomed, since it would have clearly come up had they. So while I don't have any 100% proof, I think there's enough evidence to conclude that not only did she likely get lice infestation from PetSmart, they collect from grooming during pet hotel stays and either do a very superficial job, or don't do the job at all. We will never take our dog here for any reason, and I'll never shop there again. Our new boarding place is Camp Bow Wow, which charges just a little more a day for all day open play with camera surveillance so you can check in all the time. And no lice! read more

I have been coming to this PetSmart for awhile now and I haven't really found a specific groomer that I wanted to stay with until yesterday. I brought my chi-weenie in for her normal grooming cause she was getting long nails and stinky breath (she refuses to let me near them) and I got to meet Miguel. Drop off went well, and they told me about 2-3 hours. They gave me a call about 3 hours later to pick her up. Pickup went smooth and and she smelled like a pumpkin pie! They told me she did really good and just let them do what they had to and her nails were trimmed down nicely (I was worried because her quik grew out). I'm furious. I'm typing this review with tears in my eyes. The Groomers at this PetSmart absolutely destroyed my dog. I told them over and over that I just wanted a TRIM. To my shock when I came to pick her up--they had SHAVED her! NOOOO!!!! She has a double coat! You are not suppose to shave her!!! I'm SO pissed!!!! My fiance is furious! NEVER AGAIN!!!!! Edit: My full refund is pending. I will be keeping an eye on it. I will NEVER be back. Head of grooming said their understanding was that I wanted her hair to be all one length. I had said that I wanted her "TRIMMED" to look neat and wanted help with her shedding. I never ever would have said to shave her. If they had asked me, "Oh, well, we're going to shave her" my response would've been: "You better not or I'm shaving your god damn arms off." I don't normally write reviews but in this instance I had to say something. My Girlfriend and I have been here three times to buy fish and all three times we walked out because of how disrespectful the girl who works in the fish department is. She's very rude and try's to talk down on you regarding fish knowledge. She asked what size tank we had and I said a 20 gallon and she scoffed at that and said condescendingly "maybe that's big enough for 1 Beta fish". How absurd, only big enough for 1 beta in a 20 gallon? She completely ruined our time at PetSmart. We were so excited to get fish for our new tank but we ended up leaving with nothing due to her attitude. THE WORST PART.... During today's visit we noticed what had to be 20-30 dead fish throughout the fish section and when I brought it to her attention she shrugged it off like it was a daily occurrence. How pathetic and cruel. This PetSmart should really be ashamed of their employees actions. Don't think we'll be back to this location. read more

In the seven years since I've been gone, they have gone from a public company to a privately held VC entity. They went through a couple of tough years but they are back in a huge way and with the pandemic spurring pet ownership, it looks like the company is heading for some great growth again. One of my mantras is "Retail is Hard". And with nearly 2000 stores, mistakes and heartache happen. But I can tell you first hand, this is a company of Pet Lovers, first and foremost. While. It's not written anywhere, the goal is to lift pets up, to support them and to never harm them. The entire company serves pets and pet parents. And by and large, they succeed on a grand scale. This location is my go-to. Friendly, helpful employees, I always get greeted when I arrive. They are always in-stock with the cat food & supplies I need. Most retail outlets track metrics like how long a transaction takes so they can make it easier and faster for the customer. PetSmart goes their own way. They want the transaction to take forever. Everytime I go into the store there are 12 people in the store and 10 of them are waiting in line to check out. Half of the problem is in fact the customers. But the other half is the employee. I was recommended this place for everyday dog adoption by a close family friend. We had a good experience and took our puppy "Sumo" home with us. When we brought him to the car we noticed a weird lump under his fur. Upon further inspection by a veterinarian, we discovered it was a tick. My go to pet smart! The place is always clean and put together which is nice . The workers are super friendly and helpful but not in an over bearing way. The groomers are all nice! They always do an amazing job when I bring in my 110 pound Great Pyrenees! The doggie daycare is also great, we have used them multiple times and they always do an amazing job. So I walked in September 20, 2021With a bag that I was looking to return I also need to do an exchange so when I walked in I politely told the clerk that I am putting my items at the register so there won't be any confusion. Meanwhile there is a lady at the register paying with a husky and as I'm putting my bags down the dog bites me at my waist line I yelled out your dog just bit me no response from the owner no response from the clerk... They both ignored me I told her that she needs to control her dog when everyone else in line saw the dog bit me I talked to another employee had a manager come because this shouldn't be happening if your dog is going to be biting you should have a muzzle on it or they should at least be a policy with Petsmart most of the time I come in with my daughter what would've happened if I had my daughter with me wouldn't of been her over me?? Anyways finally the manager comes down I explain the situation nothing is done I'm telling them that I need to do an exchange their idea of rectifying the situation is telling me to leave and not to worry about the items that I have they let me leave with it free which is nice but still there was nothing done there is no other steps that was done to make sure that this doesn't happen again. I use their kitty kottage service whenever I have to go out of town. The staff is very friendly and loves both of my cats. I'm confident they are well taken care of. Unfortunately, like most big box stores, their fish tanks aren't well cared for. I find at least 4 dead fishes every visit and the conditions aren't great. In one tank alone there were 5 visible dead fishes sitting at the bottom of the tank. Be sure to check aliments or torn fins before buying here. (Or shop small businesses/local) read more

Absolutely horrible experience at this PetSmart every time I come here. CHECK THE EXPIRATION DATES ON THE PRODUCTS YOU BUY, PEOPLE!!! Because the staff sure as shit doesn't care and doesn't check!! Every time I go, I am pulling 10-15+ products off the shelves that are MONTHS past their expiration date. I visited today (March 4, 2024 at around 4:30PM) and the oldest product I pulled off the shelf had expired in July of 2023!!!! 8 MONTHS AGO!! The staff does NOT CHECK, NOR DO THEY CARE. I bring it up at the register every single time I come in when I drop off the expired products. I decided to finally write a review today when I brought it up to the lady working at the register. In the middle of me saying "you guys should really make checking expiration dates a priority, it's severely dangerous for the animals" she interrupted me rudely and just said "phone number?" I should've asked to speak to her manager because that's just ridiculous. Have some compassion. Don't you have to love pets to work at PetSmart? The carelessness was downright cruel. It is incredibly dangerous to feed your pets expired food and it could easily kill them. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR EXPIRATION DATES, BECAUSE THE STAFF DOES NOT -- YOUR FUR BABIES WILL THANK YOU!! The employees are always so polite and always ask if there is anything we need.The store is always very clean and honestly you can't even smell that it's a pet store. Crazy right? They offer a variety of special add ons if you want your pooch to have the best experience. Jessa, his groomer never ever lets me down. First of all, not only is she just the sweetest with ALL the animals she is informative and offers THE best customer service I have ever seen! My dog was very shaggy and had a couple of matted areas that I could not get out at home. He looked 100% handsome and I could tell he felt so much better!
