This location off of 7th Ave and Bell is just OK. It's close to my work so I come in to grab things on my way home and have had mixed experiences, which is why I give 3 stars. The first couple of experiences were OK; cashiers greeted me unenthusiastically, the fish/reptile/bird/small mammal pet care department staff members didn't know ANYTHING about the reptiles they were selling, but the Banfield team was super sweet and helpful, answering all of my annoying questions in great detail and in a friendly manner. After those first couple of shopping trips, there was definitely a change in management for the worst! The cashiers seemed super unhappy and I didn't see the same cashier twice for a good 3 months. It seemed like they were having cashiers quit too often. Jennifer, a cashier that I had a bad experience with, was texting as I walked in and was snarky with me when I asked about a specific toy that I saw online and was available at this location. Management was not helpful to me with finding this toy, and they stayed in the office and wouldn't help check customers out when lines got very long. For those 3 months, there were too many dead fish in the fish department and all staff members seemed like they hated their jobs. The rescue they partner with is also rude. On one visit, they had a sign for pet adoptions with Living the Dream Animal Rescue. I was excited to see the pets available because my roommate was looking for a cat. I looked at the cats available for adoption and the rescue volunteer was super nice at first, until I mentioned that my roommate was also considering adopting from the Arizona Humane Society and a few other rescues. She immediate talked trash talking the humane society and other rescues, making it seem like this rescue was the only good rescue in the valley. After that she asked tons of questions about our home life and made me feel like our home life wasn't good enough for a cat. Despite these bad experiences, I've also had some really great ones! Jeff was a reptile pet care staff member who knew alot about the snakes they were selling, and he gave me alot of great information about which snake care/food items I should buy based on the species I was interested in. He didn't make me feel ANY pressure to buy now, instead he gave me some great websites to check out to pick the right snake for me. I loved this so much because he was not all about making a pet sale, instead, he seemed to genuinely care about the life that the reptile was going to have, and wanted to make sure I didn't buy a snake impulsively. I also had a great experiences with cashier, Heidi. She always greeted everyone with a fun smile, was sometimes too friendly because she could chat your ear off about your pets, was a wealth of knowledge about cat and dog care supplies since she was going to school to be a vet tech, and she made sure to give love to EVERY pet that came to her line, with respectful limits of course. She always made my shopping trip fun, and I always learned something new about dogs from her. Overall, this PetSmart location has it's pros and cons, but that really depends on the staff. read more
