My senior pup is a literal freakazoid these days when it comes to getting his nails trimmed, especially since we moved and can't go to the place we used to take him to all the time where he got comfortable with the nail trim. He was a rescue and was abused when he was a puppy so is not a fan of new people or new environments. He's not aggressive but gets so stressed out and hates to be hooked up to anything on the table. I called around to many places before finding A Dog Refined and felt they were going to be the best fit. In the past we have had good experiences with the staff and the grooming but today we were not able to get our dogs groomed. The staff said they were not getting their full pay from the owners and were not grooming until the issue was resolved. I do not know the details of the situation but I have never been in a situation where the staff refused my business because they did not trust the owner to pay appropriately. read more

The groom service done on my pup was terrible. He came back all different lengths and only one ear fully trimmed. And our other dog wasn't even fully scrubbed. They also have a lot of hidden fees. We were hopeful this would be our new groomer as we just moved nearby. We will be traveling back to Temple of Groom in North Scottsdale for our pups grooms. read more

I grew tired of the corporate greed and decided to give a "Mom and Pop" shop a try. A friend told me to try and old grooming salon (Dirty Paws) with new owners. Now called A Dog Refined. This is their second location (35th Ave and Cactus). I met with the new owners and was impressed with their professionalism and future plans for the business. I took my two labs to their appointment. I can say that my dogs never looked better. The sheen from my black lab was almost blinding. My dogs were very happy, I was very happy. They will have my grooming business and referrals to others for all future needs. read more

Patricia, Teri, & Joe: I have been bringing my dog to A Dog Refined since 2017 when you first opened. Your groomers have always done a good job with my dog -- I miss Connie though, she was the best. In 2019 I moved away from the area but kept using A Dog Refined because you do a good job and I prefer to do business with smaller businesses than big box stores if possible. I now live 25 minutes from Cave Creek & 101. Earlier today I dropped my dog off a touch before 8am. The groomer quoted me 2-3 hours. At 946a she called and said my dog was ready and told me I had an hour to pick him up. I quickly finished breakfast with my family and drove the 25 minutes back only to arrive 5 minutes late at 1051a. Subsequently I was charged an additional $20 for being late. When I asked about the late fee the groomer was very obtuse in her response and seemed rather irked by me. Her response and comments back basically told me she would prefer that I not do business with you. read more

Went once, won't be back! Two Standard Poodles, two groomers, twice the price of other groomers. One decent grooming with haircut. One substandard grooming with amateur haircut. One dog traumatized by experience - Was very clingy when we got home. He urinated in house twice after getting home. This is not his normal behavior. There are 79 yelp reviews with an average 4.3 however there are 13 reviews with 1 star. That's a significant bad experience ratio. One groomer deserved a 4 or 5. One groomer deserved a 1. We gave 3 stars since one groomer did a decent job and it wasn't fair to penalize her for the other's failure. read more

My dog always leaves fresh and clean. She is constantly shedding so we occasionally get her trimmed. They always leave her coat looking beautiful and we have not had any issues with it being too short. read more

Please read all of the reviews! I've seen a few dogs come in so matted they needed to be shaved in order to walk and be able to defecate, due to people going too long without grooming their dogs. Until Covid, I always sat and waited while my dogs are being done, watching all of the dogs being groomed. These ladies are perfectionists and the dogs are always smiling while they are being groomed. This is one of the things that impressed me most when I first started coming. All the dogs there were very happy. Not stressed out, shaking or panting with stress. I pay attention to details and Julia's Salon is impeccable! This group of ladies are the finest I've ever seen! I've been through three groomers in the last few years trying to find salon like this! As a professional hairstylist myself, I have referred a half dozen of my clients to them. I've had nothing but amazing feedback from others as well! Julia and the girls are so professional, kind, and accommodating. I have two dogs that absolutely hate getting their nails trimmed. They have always fought and struggled through their pedicures, but not here! Their patience, expertise, and professionalism go above and beyond! Oh, I completely forgot! My seven-year-old dog had never had his teeth cleaned. I just couldn't afford the $700 the vet charged. At A Dog Refined, they do cleanings without anesthesia for $75. I could not believe the difference in my dogs teeth. We are now on a six month cleaning regiment to keep both dogs teeth healthy and looking great! read more

The groomers take thorough notes but don't use them. Make for show? Our 2nd visit, the same groomers asked me what I wanted and I said same as last time you have the notes. As a golden doodle owner, long eyelashes are a big deal. Our female had quite long lashes until A Dog Refined chopped them off. I was referred to this place by fellow neighbors who spoke very highly of the groomers here. I especially was drawn tot his place because I had doodles that were matted and my understanding was that there were experiences groomers here that would be able to help with the dematting without shaving them. Our first experience was 6 weeks ago. We were not allowed to walk in due to COVID so the groomers came out to us. I would of liked to see the conditions in which my dogs were going to be in. We had 2 adult golden doodles and 1 bernadoodle puppy. When I made the dogs appointments, they knew over the phone I was going to be bringing in a puppy. To begin, 3 groomers came out and took extensive notes as to what we wanted. I simply said, "I brought my dogs here because I heard you are reputable with doodles. They said, "there's no special doodle cut. We just do what the customers ask." So we kept it simple, told them to try and keep them long not shave them and keep their really long eyelashes. Next came my bernadoodle puppy in which they told me, if in any way he shows sign of distress, they will not groom him. When I called over the phone, this was not mentioned to me so I expected my puppy to get his first hair cut because he was leaving our home the next day to go live with my son out of state. Thankfully no problems and he was groomed. 6 weeks later, I made an appt for my dogs again. I was going to be a bit late picking them up and they told my husband every 15 minutes past their schedules pick up time is an additional 15.00. I've never heard of anything before. Are you just supposed to sit around and wait for your dogs all day long? So my husband brings them in, again outside because still no customers allowed in and the groomers come out and ask what we want. From the extensive notes taken last time, they should have seen what we wanted. Every single time my dogs come in, I have to go over what kind of haircuts to do? My husband picked them up and when he got home with them, he noticed both my dogs eyelashes were cut off. If you know anything about this breed, you know one of their characteristics is long eyelashes. They obviously didn't review the previous notes and now I'm extremely upset. We also brought in a 14 week old puppy of my daughters and we asked if they could just cut his nails, trim the hair around his eyes and privates and they charged $25 for a 5 minute job. I called and left a message and am curious as to how they will handle the situation. I'm not taking them here anymore. Worst referral ever. read more

This groomer is awful! I am so done. They rudely turned my dog down after going for over a year saying he was too wild and they couldn't groom him. So I got Tranquilizers from the vet to calm him down. I dropped my dog off at 10:30 after giving him his medicine at 9 AM. I spoke to the girl and said if half wasn't enough I could come back and give him more, we could reschedule, anything to try and work around his nervousness. I hear nothing until I get a call at 1 PM, saying that they could not do my dog and I need to come get him. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this grooming business for anyone with medium sized dogs!!! I decided to give these guys a shot since moving from Glendale as they had decent reviews. But when it came time to pick my baby up without telling me they cut her nails too short as I noticed yellow powder on a few with dry blood The groomer also cracked one her nails leaving it to hang!!! The least they could have done was tell me they made a mistake not just hand her over after paying $75...I don't trust them or their rude customer service. read more

I honestly think they accidentally charged me for a large dog instead of a medium dog but I gave them several chances to make the correction and they stood on their $90 decision claiming that their "prices went up." Three issues: 1) The shop was dark and fairly dirty compared to other groomers. They were very busy and no other reviews I saw had had an issue with this, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt that it is just a day. 2) The actual cut was terrible. They shaved my poodle's neck down to the skin and cut her eye lashes totally off. They didn't shave the sanitary area. The overall length is uneven. The shop is dark and hard to see well, so maybe that was why? And also explains how I didn't notice the issues until we got to our car. 3) The price. I was quoted a range of $55-85 on the phone depending on the length of the growth and size of my standard poodle puppy. It had been 7 weeks since the last groom, so nothing crazy in terms of length growth. Our dog is approx 25 lbs. When I picked up, the cost was $75 and the front desk person said it would likely go up next time. Other quotes we had gotten from other groomers were $65. While the owner was very professional and polite when taking my call to discuss my concerns, she claimed that it was the exact cut I requested and that shaving the neck to the skin was standard, yet NONE of the pictures you see of cuts on this page have a bare neck and no eye lashes. None of her previous cuts have been like this... She suggested I try a different groomer next time. I said I would be happy to if I could trust they would make it right if this happened again. To illustrate that, I requested a discount on the cut, which she declined. They might have some good groomers on staff, but too risky for me, especially if they won't make it right when something goes wrong! read more

Just wanted to post an update that this is still the best dog groomers! They keep a file and know exactly what length I got Clifford shaved last time and Cliffy has now had 3 different groomers from here do his shave and they are all so sweet with him and (I know it's weird) they all were able to shave his butt which I have had other groomers at other places return him to me with a fully unshaved butt because Cliff just isn't having it. So it means a lot to me that they all take the time to make him feel comfortable and get the full job done. So happy with everyone here!
