I've been meaning to write this review for a while now, but I haven't been able to put the words down correctly. Before we moved to San Ramon, I had taken the pup in for one last bath and groom. As usual, she was excited to see Karen, who I had specifically requested. So, with the pup in tow, I head over to drop her off only to be told that Karen had to leave on an emergency and that because of that Willow was going to be the last appointment for the day. Now the person that told me this was a very, very young girl who you could see in her eyes that she wanted to get off work early and was pissed I didn't answer my phone for her to cancel the appointment. I hesitated on leaving her there, but my desperation to get her cleaned took over and I left her. NEVER AGAIN at this PetSmart! A few hours later I get a call telling me that Willow was done. Hmmm, it seemed quick, but perhaps she was agreeable this time and actually let them blow dry her. I get there to pick her up, and as I am turning the corner, the two kids that were in there are trying to cut her nails and she loses balance and slips off the table and is just hanging there by a rope by her throat!!!!!! I rushed in as they were getting her back in the table and they acted like nothing happened. No manager for the store was to be found, anywhere! I begrudingly paid for the most horrific haircut my dog has ever had and went home. Called the next day to talk to Karen and got a half-asses 'sorry'. This PetSmart is good for products, but nothing else. read more

This review is for the groomers: If I could give a zero star, I would. I took my dog to the groomers at pet smart, and she always did really well while being groomed (anywhere). She loved going to pets stores because they meant free treats being given out to her. While we were checking her in, they asked if they could use sedatives on her. We said a very clear no to any sedatives. We checked the paperwork to make sure everything was right, and if course it said "NO sedatives". Everything was great as we left. When we came back, my dog was totally out of it, and didn't even greet us. She slept for about 2-3 days without even getting excited to go on a walk. Petsmart groomers had used sedatives on her. We never took her back there again, but she will not even enter a pet store that offers grooming service anymore. When we take her in, she gets scared and will not take treats from anybody in a pet store. Whenever we take her in to get groomed, she pulls us straight to the door when we come and get her. Pet smart gave her nothing but a mediocre hair cut and a ton of fear. read more

If you love your pets never ever take them here. I took my healthy pomeranian dog last year here to board for 10days. When we came back and took him home we noticed he wasn't himself anymore. He seems so tired and sad we thought this is just normal for a dog who just came from a dog hotel. After a day, we noticed he had some worms in his poop so we took him back here and complained about it. The doc on call seen our dog and gave him a medication for his worms and he said he has a fever too but it's normal for a dog to have fever when they are under stress. After a week, our poor dog got worst. He could not eat nor drink anymore, he just stayed in one placed where we left him so we decided to take him to the hospital in hillsdale instead. We came to find out that he already has a meningitis. They gave him IV therapy right away, steroids and high doses of antibiotics. This cost us almost $2000 plus the stress and almost the life of our beloved dog. I know we cannot control this kind of situation but it's preventable. If only petsmart has some guidelines like at least check the vaccine records and become more stricter to accept only pets that are not sick for boarding so no communicable diseases will pass to other pets. read more

I rarely write reviews. I like Petsmart for my pet stuff. But I have had an absolutely horrible experience with Petshotel. So bad, in fact, that I felt compelled to write this. I will NEVER go there again. Here's what happened. We had lodged our cats and dog there before. One cat and one dog came back sneezing and coughing, but we figured that was typical with this type of care. We had reserved spots for our two cats and one dog starting on Dec. 26. We were leaving town for 8 days and had no alternate care for our pets. Our spots were reserved weeks in advance. We show up at Petsmart. They tell us there is no room at the Inn for our two cats. The offer no assistance or suggestions about what to do with our cats. They merely say "our Arizona call center screwed things up." Of course, because its the day after Christmas, no one has space anywhere. Luckily, someone showed up to pick up their cat so suddenly there was room for our cats. The staff during this whole process was rude and not very loving towards our pets (although my general experience is they are great with our dog). They took the dog away before we could be sure there was space for the cats and we had difficulty getting her back. Once there was room for everyone, we took it as we had no other option and we were leaving hours later. I come back on Jan 2 to pick up the pets. The dog was fine. The report on our cats was that they were not eating and one of them was covered in her own pee (she is a cat that that NEVER happens to). They mildly apologize for the pee on the cat and say nothing about the fact that our cats hadn't eaten and no one had bothered to call us. Not surprisingly, when the cats got home, they immediately went to their food and gobbled it up. All of this fine treatment for a $750 pet hotel bill. I will never entrust my beloved pets to them again. Here's hoping they aren't sick this time. read more

I've never been happier with the grooming salon, as soon as we came in today for my Dog's bath and haircut Mariah stood out the whole time, Mariah is the new Manager there and sure knows her job too well and enjoys it. I will definitely keep putting my babies (dogs) under her supervision :) read more

Okay now I'm a real doggy lover and have had/have dogs all my life. Now this was the very first time we ever thought about sending the dogs out to a "Pet Hotel" and it maybe the last. Well at least at this particular Hotel. So going on my cruise last year we needed someone to watch, feed, play and clean after my dogs and I've gone to Petsmart for different things through-out the years. So why not use them?? Well I did my homework but to my amazement I didn't do enough research. Needless to say my poor baby's booty was totally irrated and inflamed where someone didn't wipe the shit off her ass which dried up. Someone made a poor attempt to do this but was very unsuccessful. And did a really fucked up job. Sorry for the language but "DON'T FUCK WITH MY DOGS" I bursted into tears seeing what they didn't do for her. And each time I called (every othe day and yes my celli bill was off the chain) they told me both dogs were fine and happy and playing. Now I know my dogs. If they have any crap on their ass they are miserable. They hate it. They wine until they're cleaned. So me being gone out of the states for about 2 weeksand finding out about this afterwards had my heart drop and tears falling. I had to shave around my baby's butt and put some medicine on there so it could heal. As homegirl from the famous movie Poltergeist said - "SHE'S JUST A BABY!!!". I will never send my babies here again - NEVER!! If anyone had any recommendations of a nice, friendly, respectiable Pet Hotel in the silicon valley - I would appreciate it. read more

Blind leading the blind at this store. Can't even depend on petsmart store managers/supervisors, who pass up the opportunity to help out their own staff in customer transactions. Should really revamp your mission statement considering their service is far from "superb". Shop Amazon. These donkeys can't even check out transactions smoothly in a considerable amount of time. read more

This was a horrible grooming experience. I took my dog here for an 11:30 appointment. My groomer was Ashley. They told me it would take 3-4 hours so I went home and waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, after four and a half hours, I called them and they seemed surprised, saying that they had tried to called at 1:47 but my phone "had been disconnected". At 1:47 pm, I was waiting on my couch for them to call; I know this because my phone records state that at 2:01, my friend called and I picked up and we had a 9 minute conversation. They had called the wrong number using the wrong area code. How many times did they try to call? According to their own records, exactly ONCE. After that, my groomer Ashley went off home and the remaining staff had no interest in trying to contact me any further. My dog waited in a cage for almost 3 hours. When I got there to pick up my dog and inquired as to how this managed to happen, there were many complex, awkward attempts to blame others and no one took any responsibility for this. This was upsetting already, however, the worst part is yet to come... When I got home and inspected my dog, I realized that, right over the jugular on his right, there was an area that was shaved VERY close and, when I tried to touch my dog there, he yelped. I do not like having my dog wait in a cage for hours and hours when I was literally waiting at home to pick him up because the groomer was too incompetent to call the right number but the possibility of them nicking my dog over a major blood vessel is completely unacceptable and what prompted me to write this review. read more

Charlotte's right, go to PetClub around the corner. I can't think of any reason why I'd go to this place again. What's the point? To get less customer service and pay more than PetClub?!? read more

I am absolutely disgusted. We have a dying dog who has stomach cancer. He has special food he needs to eat. The manager tells us that we need a prescription for it. No problem, we have it with PetSmart on file. "Oh, those computers closed at 7." Really dude?!? As the manager, you can't look in your system to simply check for a prescription? The food is on the shelves, it's not like they needed to prepare anything. No sympathy either. I am not sure if PetSmart or the manager sucks, but either way, never returning ever again. read more

Do NOT groom here.. I've had multiple bad experiences, but like a moth to the flame, I went back for more.. One time I saw the groomer swipe at my dogs face while she was grooming him. I also saw the same groomer leave a dog unattended on the stand and go to the back (their collars are clipped on to a post above their heads, if that dog would have jumped, it would have hung itself). After the battery, my dog had a lot of discharge from his eye, so I took him to my vet - and made them pay the bill. Since then, I was labeled as problem customer. At one time, I was only allowed to have the grooming manager cut my dog. The last time I was in, there was a note on the estimate they had me sign.. it said "do not shave nose or customer will kill you" Really? I've always been polite (except for the time she beat my dog). I've had decent groomings, but the staff forget that they need some basic people skills too. I won't be going back. read more

If I could give the grooming department a zero, I would. Avoid these groomers at all costs. There have been MANY reports of neglect, abuse, deaths, and overall mistreatment. The groomers are not properly trained and their harnesses on the grooming tables are not suitable or safe. Take care of your dog and DON'T LEAVE THEM IN THE HANDS OF PETSMART EMPLOYEES. Do your research! read more

We popped in here the other day because we had brought our dog out with us for the afternoon but my husband had forgotten to grab her a leash, oops! We were pleased to find some leashes on sale, nabbed one for $5! Unfortunately they were out of her prescription food, but we were able to get some discounted christmas themed treats for her. i had my Tory boarded at Petsmart for the very first time for 10 days while i was traveling outside of the country. I was quite worry sick as i've never boarded her at any pet hotel before and she's the party animal type that will go playing with any dog possible. When i picked her up, i realized i forgot to order her a wash in advance. Nevertheless, she was covered in pee and her white fur turned into yellow. She smelled like a homeless stray dog. What's worse, she developed kennel cough after this stay. The next day morning her cough was so severe that i thought she was going to stop breathing. Tory has always been an extremely healthy and active dog and this new condition of hers ensures me to never board her at Petsmart again. Their staff service was also very inconsistent. Also, i dropped off Tory the night right before they closed and still got charged full day care, and i picked her up slightly after 12pm and got charge for extra half day which was already paid for too. I paid for 10 full day and picked her up afternoon of the 10th day and got charged extra half day (10 and half day). What the heck? I made an appointment with my vet tomorrow and i'm hoping nothing severe than kennel cough to be discovered read more

We have boarded and groomed our dog at the San Jose (Coleman) location many times. It's nothing like this place. Grooming: I dropped off our dog and picked him up as scheduled. He looked pretty good, nails were short (which is always a problem for him). He had a bit of a brush burn on his belly, probably from clippers. I didn't think this was a big deal, but read on. Boarding: We normally send our dog to the San Jose (Coleman) location, but they had no room for our extended Memorial Day trip, so we scheduled him at this location. Since it had been a few weeks since I had groomed him at this location, we scheduled an exit grooming appointment. Somehow, the same groomer he had during his previous visit came to do the inspection. He was TERRIFIED. He clawed my wife trying to get behind her so he could get away from the groomer. We canceled the grooming. We came to pick up him early (10 nights instead of 12 nights). We meticulously bag his food and label it for each feeding (for example, "Mon AM", "Mon PM", "Tue AM", etc.). He had 3 DAYS worth of food left over in addition to the 3 meals we would have had left over from the early pick-up. He was visibly underweight and lethargic when we picked him up. I spoke with the counter person yesterday. She half-explained that when he didn't eat in the evening, they picked up his food and returned it to us. She couldn't explain the policy or why they would deprive our dog of 30% of his entire food supply! I then spoke with the Petshotel manager today, and she was also unable to explain the policy, except to say that each feeding was "signed off". Look, it's not rocket science. My dog needs 1-1/2 cups of food a day. If you find out he's not eating, #1, call me. I'll tell you what to do. #2, you're an adult and are allegedly qualified to look after animals. If he's only eating in the morning, then FEED HIM HIS ENTIRE QUANTITY IN THE MORNING, WHEN HE'S EATING. If he still doesn't eat it, see rule #1. This is our furry baby we're talking about. It's not that important compared to everything else, but they also didn't return all his supplies (they forgot his blanket) when we picked him up. Finally, prior to this boarding, they also failed to deliver his medication appropriately while we were away for a few days. We gave clear instructions, and the instructions are also printed on the medication bottle. Needless to say, we will never even set foot in this PetSmart location again. read more

I felt generous today so I am conservatively offering one star. I'm going to break it down so it's easier to navigate through this review. 1. They provided my dog and charged me for a service which I didn't ask for. He was there for 4 days...I thought it would be straight forward for them. 2. Dog is allergic to the world...literally foods, grass, other dogs, medicines...everything. If he had problems with his stomach and he's leaving you gifts everywhere or has blood or some shit, YOU NEED TO REACH ME. "We couldn't reach you" after 1 phone call to me, 0 phone calls to the emergency contact, and 0 emails to myself, when I am still in the country is totally F-ed up. They authorized for allergy-prone puppy dog to visit their infamously bad veterinary service, get 3 different prescriptions and have a diet change. Seriously? seriously... Just to drill this nail in, highly allergic pet = his exposure to everything is controlled...by me. The owner who will take him home and try to fix your mess. 3. For an originally $144 bill, I paid a $500. All because the staff aren't competent in "reaching" the owner of the dog in case of an emergency. Uncool. 4. The reason for that one star: otherwise dog seems happy and doesn't show any signs of abuse or neglect. 5. I am in the process of verifying the vet bill. Because the vet sucks. Thank you Yelpers for the reviews. 6. Tip: if you plan on leaving your pet, give them clear, CLEAR CLEAR CLEAR, instructions on what to do and how to reach you because obviously the store that is literally all about pets, doesn't know how to handle that situation. read more

If there's anything I love more than anything else in the world, its League of Legends. However, I would have to say a close second is my dog. I would give this store a perfect 10/10. read more

This is BY FAR the worst experience I have EVER had at a pet groomers. I asked for a bath and a sanitary trim on my dog. They said it would take two hours and that they would call me when he was done. FIVE HOURS LATER still no call. I called them TWICE and they would pick up the phone and hang it up right away, so I drove over there and he had apparently only gotten done a half hour ago. Not only that, but they did NOT to a sanitary trim. He still has mats in his ears, and his paws were not cleaned up. As if that's not bad enough, they clearly did not give him water the WHOLE time because he came back absolutely parched. This place is the WORST! read more

I am so incredibly disappointed by this place. I left my dog there for a week and when I came back I could not believe my eyes. I had asked for grooming, had given very specific instructions to the people there and I have no idea what that person was on when they gave him a cut. They shaved his butt, cut the hair on one side not the other, one ear was trimmed and not the other and the tail was left all matter. To make matters worse, he got kennel cough. When I called to tell them about this I was dismissed with an OK. I wrote to customer service to complain and no one got back to me. Wrote again, saying I would write this review and then they called me THREE times over the weekend. I was out of town so I called back promptly on Monday. nothing. Wrote them again, NOTHING!!! The management here leave a LOT to be desired. I will certainly never bring my dog here again or even buy a leash. read more

This summer my dog had a stay at this Petsmart during the Fourth of July weekend. Because of this busy time of the year we were unfortunately not able to secure a spot at our usual Petsmart hotel. It was our assumption that all Petsmart hotels should be held to the same standard and therefore our dog would be fine at this new place, but oh were we ever so wrong. The drop off process was like any other time at our regular Petsmart pet hotel so nothing seemed amiss. But it was afterwards when we picked our dog up only to find that his feet were muddy. We asked them to rinse off his feet for us. At our other Petsmart pet hotel we had never had this problem. Of course our dog would be a bit dirtier than when we dropped him off which was to be expected, but never to such a severe degree as this. Beyond the surface our dog's behavior has changed in little ways. He likes to growl more, howl more, and is overall more restless behavior-wise than before we had dropped him off. While nothing is incredibly dangerous, it's just concerning as to how his behavior could have changed in such a short stay at this pet hotel. Because of this very poor and dissatisfying experience at this Petsmart pet hotel which leaves us very puzzled and uneasy, we will most definitely always book our space at our regular Petsmart pet hotel very early in order to avoid a repeat of this. read more

My dog LOVES this place. I really like them too. They're really friendly and wonderful to my pup. Yay PetSmart PetsHotel!

Soooooo annoying that you can't book an appointment for nail trimmings. We've come in multiple times and there is a multi-hour wait. They say to "call ahead" but they only give you an estimate of when they might be able to see your pet, and then you get there and they just say "sorry we're busy". Then you have to relive this annoyance weekly because they lightly trim the dogs nails and tell you to come more frequently. Dumbbbbbb. Spend your time and money elsewhere. read more

I brought my dogs for grooming here for the first time because the other PetSmart in Sunnyvale couldn't take my pups. Needless to say, it was an awful experience. My pups are beagle mixes and they quoted me $36 on the phone, so I added the plus (toothbrushing and nail grinding for $15.00. When I got there, they asked me to wait outside the grooming salon on a bench. When I came back in, she gave me a paper that said one of my dogs was a pit bull/mix and the charge was now $49+15. She wasn't even going to say anything to me until I said something to her. When I brought it up, one of the groomers yelled out "That is NOT a beagle!" Oh my goodness! How are you going to tell me what my dog is? All they had to do was look at their shot records. They weren't questioning the validity of the beagle in my other dog - but my dogs are from the same litter. It was like she accused me of being a liar! I should have walked out right then and there, but they really needed to get groomed. I decided I would leave them there and speak to the manager. The manager was out to lunch. The PetSmart in Sunnyvale normally has my two pups ready to go within 2 to 2 1/2 hours. This PetSmart said 3 hours. I called 2 hours later, and they said it would be another hour. I came in at exactly the time they said my dogs would be ready and the girl at the reception area told me that my dogs would need another hour because the groomer WENT ON A LUNCH BREAK! They expected me to wait another hour (4 hours) because of a break? Wouldn't it make sense to finish with my dogs and then go on a break and not keep a customer waiting??? If that wasn't enough, when I got the bill, they not only raised the price on my one dog (you know, the one who they thought was a pit bull), but they raised the price on my other dog!!! OH NO THEY DIDN'T!!!!! By this time the store manager was back, and he did get the whole story from me. He was kind enough to give me the price that I was quoted on the phone. He apologized and said he hoped it wouldn't hinder me from bringing my dogs back. Maybe I'll be back to the store to buy food because the people in the store are nice and customer service oriented. But to their grooming salon? The worst I've ever encountered in terms of customer service and grooming. Oh, and BTW, when I got home, I noticed the fur on my dog's side was sticking out in a weird way. It was noticeable. read more

We brought our dog to the Pet Hotel where he stayed for three nights and I was impressed with the staff and cleanliness of the facilities. They even brought our dog to the phone when my kids called up, wanting to talk to him! Our puppy acted like he did not want to go home when I came to pick him up. I was happy that the hotel offered a doggie day camp and similar playtime options. The only improvement I would add is that the hotel not charge for these options, but include them as part of the overnight stay. read more

They have the NICEST staff here! Everywhere else I've gone (Petco, Pet Club, etc) the staff are bitter and don't know jack about pet care. Here, everyone is very willing to help. This review is for the Pet hotel. I brought my dog to this location before going onto vacation. She came back unwashed, with poop on her butt, and the staff merely told us that the bath "service" was an additional 10 dollars per day or something. Her cage also seemed like it wasn't cleaned at all; her white toy came back yellow. Also, when we took our dog to home, she came back with black stuff in her eyes. I have no idea what this means, but I was told by a friend who also has a dog that this means she's been crying. Also, we saw the puppy playtime room in the hotel and most of the dogs seemed extremely bored, tired, and depressed. The human stands there looking outside the window. The kennels also look really cramped, and the "dog suite" only has a tv for 11 more bucks a day, and is no bigger than the rest of the kennels. I would not recommend the pet hotel. read more

Online order was ready after just one hour and picking up was a breeze.

This place just opened up a few weeks ago. I've been there twice - they sent out some coupons and I needed some cat stuff. With the coupons, their prices are good, but without them they're about the same as any other pet store. Their selection is pretty good. But what's fun about this place is that sometimes they have cats and kittens from local shelters for adoption in a room off to the side and you can go check them out. read more

I don't usually go to this petsmart but I was in the area with my pup and he needed a bath so we stopped in. I had heard that Ashley (the grooming manager) was really good so I requested her for Atreyu's flea bath and nail trim. When he was done his tail was wagging, he was all clean and handsome and he smelled so good! I'll be going back =) read more

I started taking my 8 month old puppy to doggie day camp 2 weeks ago. We are having some landscaping done in back yard and needed a place for her to go for 4 weeks. I stopped by Pet smart with her and had them evaluate her and see if she was a good candidate for camp. They said she was fine and they looked forward to seeing her. So I booked 2 weeks at a time. I took her the week of 4th of July for 3 days and then Monday, Tues, and Wednesday the following week. Wednesday night when I picked her up she had a bit of a cough. I didn't think anything of it until I got home and she started coughing quite a bit. Being a new puppy owner I had no idea what was wrong with her. I did some research online to try and figure out her symptoms. She seemed fine ate dinner and drinking water. What she was coughing up foamy fluid, but no food. So what I learned was it was a cough and she was not throwing up. So at 2am Thursday morning she had a terrible coughing spout and went on for 45 minutes. I decided to take her to Adobe emergency and have her looked at. They knew right away what was wrong with her. The whisked her into a room and checked her out she has Kennel Cough. They gave her codeine and told me to take her home and she would be fine in 3 days to 3 weeks. So remarkably by Thursday afternoon she seemed much better cough was nearly gone. So this is why I am writing the review. I called Thursday morning to inform them that she was going to have to stay home she had Kennel Cough. The young man that answered the phone was really sad to hear she was sick. He had mentioned that she was fine the day before and he was correct. He also mentioned how much he loved her. He asked if I would keep him posted on how she was feeling. SO.... I called on Friday to talk to Peter and Crystal answered the phone and I tried to explain why I was calling and she took the stance of "She could have gotten that on a walk." She also said Kennel cough this year is really bad and it is the season for it. Here is my point that is all fine and dandy, but her approach was awful. I was told I would get a call from the manager...no call. I wondered if anyone that was bringing in their dog on 7-10-14 after 7:10am was told that there had been a dog that was sick and give them the option of leaving their pet. I'm guessing that would be bad for business. I now know what Kennel Cough is and won't be so alarmed next time. I understand that in all those papers I signed it DOES state they are not responsible for communal disease spreading. The question is did they do all they could do? Lastly I would like to add I had a great experience until Crystal. All of the people Peter especially had been very nice and looked forward to seeing Bella. She came home tired and had a great time met lots of new friends Chole and Mandy naming a few. I'm sad that she won't be going back. read more

Terrible customer service. Every once in a while someone will help you adequately, but most of the time, at least lately, they are understaffed and unmotivated. The workers in the Day Care window look unenthusiastic and the dogs seem uncomfortable. When they have storewide "events", the employees barely participate and the atmosphere is incredibly uninviting. In fact, once two cashiers were arguing about how should go round up the other staff to help them during busy times - right in front of the customers. Worlds different from Pet Food Express, where the staff knows what they are doing. Shame. read more

The store is fine and selection is adequate. My negative experience is with the PetsHotel. I had taken my dogs there several times recently and while it wasn't great, I at least thought they were safe and taken care of. When they first opened, the service and care were really good, but once the original manager left, everything changed. I took my boys over Thanksgiving and they were both overfed (I brought my own food and knew how much extra I had added since I was traveling to bad weather and worried I might not get back on time) plus the one that had medication was overmedicated. The directions that I wrote were "Once a day with food", instead they gave him the medication both times a day that he was fed. When I brought this to the attention of the person at the desk, the answer was "Oh well - I guess he's ok". There are a lot of young employees who don't seem to care much for their jobs, and don't really care how they take care of the animals. I don't expect them to feel the same way I do about my dogs, but some interest in the fact that they are living, breathing life forms would be nice. They are more interested in talking to each other than doing their jobs. I can't recommend the PetsHotel, and in fact would suggest that anyone who cares about their pet find a different boarding solution. read more

I was asked by an associate with purple streaks in her hair if my dog was "a mean dog."
