This review is long overdue... I thought this guy Pete went out of business and was horrified that we just found this page and he's still around but just moved locations. He terrified our doodle and did an ugly haircut too. But that was not the worst part -- or the only detail. The warning to all of you is that our dog came home with several cuts on her nose and body where you can tell she was aggressively shaven with no clipper guard. After bringing her home trembling, we said we'd never take her there again after seeing those cuts on her nose and body. We felt so sad we took her there and was traumatized by this groomer. He should not be handling any pets! Also, the shop was filthy and all the dogs in the shop looked like they stayed in cages all day. read more

This guy doesn't specialize in Shiba inu's. But he sure did do an amazing job with mine. I was unsure at first and hesitant.... I have a German Shepard beagle mix and anytime I took her to the groomers and asked them to brush her out they never did an amazing job. They always left a ton of fur. Now, my mix doesn't have nearly as dense or as much fur as my Shiba. But Peter did a stupendous job getting out all that winter coat. She smelled AMAZING, and he was super friendly to her. My Finacé was amazed at how clean she was and how clean she felt. He even used the crazy baby voice I use when I talk to her, he never speaks to her like that. We are very happy with his work and would recommend his services to everyone. read more

This place is absolutely horrible. Left my dog at 10 am and come to find out my dog was in a very small cage till 5:30 when the owner finally got around to cutting my dogs hair. Asked why it took so long and the owner with a bad attitude said his helper walked off the job and he over booked. I watched the owner from outside the front window and his treatment with all the dogs was so bad and scary. You could tell he so did not enjoy grooming dogs with such a bad attitude towards the pet owner and the dogs he groomed. To top off the bad hair cut and horrible owner he is way over priced as well. We have been going to The Grooming Works for about 25 years. Pete the owner is fantastic with all his dog clients. Our dogs look forward to going to grooming with Pete. Pete is very caring and treats each dog in their own special way as needed by each dog. Pete has expanded his business to a new location at 2464 W. El Camino Real, Mountain View. It is about 5 min south from his previous location across the street from Sees Candy on El Camino. New location is easy to get to, has plenty of parking and is bigger and brighter than his former location. We love the new location. I wouldn't take my dog to any other groomer than Pete. My dog always get his personal attention. Pete is the best ! read more

We bring our 1yo bichon-poodle Lucy here about once a month (we've been bringing her here since she was ~4 months old). Pete is really gentle and nice, and makes Lucy look absolutely adorable. He takes specific requests (we like her with a shorter face but a poof on top), and he also makes great recommendations (i.e. leaving the hair a bit longer on her legs to balance out her body shape, so she doesn't have matchstick-legs). The atmosphere isn't fancy but it's functional and the poochies seem happy. He is also really reasonably priced. Definitely recommend! read more

First time here. Our dog is a Bolognese - she was overgrown and a bit matted. Previous groomers usually shave her back to the skin but Pete did a fantastic job leaving her with plenty of fluffy hair all un-matted, even and cut exactly the way I asked. Five stars! read more

This is a gem, the owner takes each dog as it comes. In my case a very fearful pup. He spent an hour and a half trying to relax him and make friends and was able to trim a bit which he didnt charge for. He said bring him back in a week and we would try again to socialize him. The next week i brought him again along with our other dog as a comfort dog. This time we met with more success! He is willing to work a bit at a time to win your dog over. We will definitely be making this our regular groomer! read more

There's a guy there that works alone with occasional help. I recently took my dog there the first time. He's a pretty nice guy and handled my dog pretty well. She doesn't like her feet touched and he was very patient with her. I must say though... I specifically asked him not to cut any hair on her hair. And he just chopped it and gave her bangs! It took my a year to grow them out. Also, I found a couple of knots that I assume he missed. Overall, this place is pretty good. I'm sure that I was to return he would get it right next time. I was trying to make an appointment with the mobile dog spa and they never picked up the phone, so I decided to try this place since it's so close to home. I'm so glad I did. I was reluctant at first due to the lack of reviews on here, plus most of the reviews are very old. Gizmo looked so good after grooming. His hair is so soft and smelled so nice. They also gave him a cute bandana. His haircut is the best one I've seen. I've been to many groomers. Most of them cut/shave his hair way too short, even when I told them not to (see my other reviews). I'm surprise there are not that many reviews here. Frightening experience here. The shop is dirty and in shambles. Dropped my dog off hesitantly, but had heard good things about doodle grooming. I left but then realized I had accidentally left my cell on the counter. I came back and my dog with chained to the floor. I was scared and appalled by this treatment. Even worse Pete was no where to be found. I had enough time to unchain my dog and leave, and never did see Pete. There is no way I would ever return. read more

I am looking at my gorgeous, sweet-smelling, soft Schnauzer/Poodle mix rescue boy. Since he's a one-of-a-kind dog, a certain amount of creativity and experience is required to give him a good cut. I am happy to have found Pete at The Grooming Works. He came highly recommended, and does a super job. BTW: experienced dog owners expect to see crates and dog hair at a groomer's, get their dogs bordatella vaccines, (kennel cough), and realize that fleas (especially during a drought), happen. (Flea treatments have to be changed here often as some of the critters develop an immunity to the one you use.) read more

Pete is great with our dog (who is generally hostile towards strangers) and a down-to-earth, honest man, like you would find in a small town in days past. Cleaned him up nicely. Haircut looks great. He offers the oatmeal option for extra, which I highly recommend. I will definitely be going back to him. The only complaint I had was that he couldn't find the collar when we went to pick our dog up, so just give him a gentle reminder or hold on to it. He works alone. I brought my Maltese dog here today and was really happy with the service. I didn't catch the owner's name, but he was very nice and accommodating. Snoopy's haircut was a bit different from the normal haircut I get for him - and I loved it! I dropped him off at 11am, and picked him up at 5p.
