This review is solely based on their grooming section. I generally don't go there to get my pet groomed but I've been there twice because I take another dog there so I might as well do it for my dog while I'm there. You have to make an appointment to get your pet groomed and they're usually busy so call ahead if you want your pet groomed on a specific date. The main problem I have is that their grooming isn't all inclusive. By that I mean when you go to any other groomer they usually include nail trimming, ear cleaning, the haircut you want for your dog and all the other small things for a set price. This place will charge you for every little thing. It's a set price for a wash and cut. Then they'll ask you do you want his/her nail trimmed? Any specific haircut? Blah blah blah. All of it without letting you know it's another charge on top of another charge. I said sure trim his nails thinking it was just like the first time. I said just leave his Mohawk alone but shave the rest of his body. All I got was "okay" and I left. When I went to pick up my dog I was charged for nail trimming (I think $22) and another amount because I said leave his Mohawk so they charged extra to leave his head and top of the neck area alone. Left paying around $80 (including tax) when I usually pay 45-50 at anywhere else. Make sure when they ask you if you want something done to your pet if it's an extra charge or not. Also if you are asking them to do something specifically if it's an extra charge or not. On the plus side the Banfield Hospital is there and if you pay a monthly payment plan they're pretty thorough with your pet. read more

We left our 1 yr old miniature pinscher at the pet hotel for 5 nights. When we returned to pick him up he was very happy and his bed and blanket were washed. He was very well cared for and know he will be happy and safe for next time we need to board him. The staff was very friendly and took great care of our boy. read more

This review is specifically for the grooming salon. I would not recommend bringing a puppy here for grooming. We brought our 5 month old puppy in for grooming. He is young, rambunctious and like all puppies, he likes to chew and bite on things. This grooming salon kept our puppy for over 4 hours before calling us to tell us that they could not groom him and asked us ridiculous questions like, "do you give him toys to play with?" They sounded very inexperienced with how to deal with puppies and I would caution anyone before bringing your dog here for grooming. I didn't read reviews of this place before bringing our dog and if I had, I would have never brought him. We ultimately brought our puppy to a local independent groomer who had no problem grooming our puppy (and charged less than PetSmart!) and even commented to us that "as a groomer, you should know how to handle a puppy and dogs". So I am willing to bet that if you are reading this you have been in a typical petsmart before. This is just like that one. #trust they are all the same... Sometimes you get a bit higher quality of service from the folks who work there. But essentially following corporate protocall everything is in the same general areas and you have the same minimum expectations. This store follows the book to a T. They do have the occasional (on weekends) adoption drives for dogs and cats... This is what my daughter had us stop for as we were cruising along down the street. She is trying to convince me that we need a second cat... This is very bad news... you all know about the old cat lady... but I may end up becoming the old cat dude... talk about a scary thought. Regardless of that tangent... this place has a number of other animals and fish for sale... Sometimes I wonder if I should get a fish tank to let my cat catch his grub and just eat goldfish or something else super cheap... and then I realized I could have rotting fishheads and carcases half eaten all over the house... that wouldn't smell good at all that is for dayem sure so yeah nope. DO NOT PUT YOUR PRECIOUS PET IN DOGGIE DAYCAMP! I paid $22 so they could STARVE my poor puppy all day. My conversation with the manager Mya Klee went something like this: 9:30 am Me: "I'm coming at noon to check up on my dog bc it's her first time here." Mya: "When you come she won't be in the room because that's their feeding time when we feed them lunch." Me: "Oh ok, I'll come after feeding time. Here's my cell phone, you can call me anytime if there's any problems or questions." after Lunchtime: Me: "Hi I'm here to check up on my dog. Is everything ok?" Mya: "yes, she's a little scared, but she's doing a lot better." Me: "Ok, I'm coming at 7pm, is that ok?" Mya: "yes, the store will be open." 7:10pm Me: "Hi, I'm here to pick up my dog. How much of her lunch did she eat?" Worker: "Oh...we didn't feed her lunch. You never specified." Me: blood pressure rising...."What?...did you say she wasn't fed? At all? Are you sure? My poor dog!" Worker: "Yeah, because you didn't specify." Me:"Is there an extra charge or something for feeding?" Worker: "No, there's no extra charge. It's all included in the $22, but you need to specify, so we didn't feed her anything." Next afternoon Mya calls me at work on my cell phone: Mya: "Hiiiii.....just wanted to check up on your dog!....You didn't specify." Me: "you never asked, you made it sound like she would be fed, it's my first time at your pet store, and you had so many opportunities to ask me. I even gave you my cell number, and stopped by the store, and you never said anything or asked or clarified with me. My dog was with you from 10am-7pm, wouldn't you want your dog fed?!" Mya: "You're not listening to me! You're not listening to me! You're not listening to me! You didn't specify! Fine! What do you want?! I'll mail your money back...in cash!" Me:" You can't mail cash. You have to mail in check form." Mya: "No, we're mailing it to you in cash! Do you want to speak to my store manager?! Is that what you want?!" She uses my cell number to call and yell at me, but she can't use my cell number to call and ask if I want my dog to be fed or not since I didn't "specify". Good grief. Can you imagine all the other dogs that go day after day and are never fed. The workers talk about lunchtime, but never ask the owners to "specify", so the owners have no clue that their dogs aren't fed during lunchtime even though lunch is included in the price? No common sense in this establishment. I trusted them with my dog and they FAILED! I'm never taking her there again. What if some emergency happens, and they just neglect her, and respond by saying "I never specified" even though they have my emergency contact and everything. Who cares if the store is new and shiny when they don't have the common sense to care for your dog. Dogs are like our children, people! I enjoy going to this particular Petsmart, it is close to home, offers many services, and a variety of quality products. The sales associates are very friendly, approachable, and handle themselves well. That's what I thought until I encountered a bitter staff member. Her name is Teri, and she has never given off a welcoming vibe; and I have gone to this store numerous times. This particular sales associate has even rolled her eyes when I have walked-in to return an item. I couldn't beleive it. No one else was able to help me since she was the only one at the register. She was rude and bitter as if I did something to her. May seem minor, but she never even bagged the things I bought nor did she even hand them to me. She just left my items on the side counter and said "thank you" in a cold tone. Since she didn't bag my things, I waited to see if she bagged anyone else's and sure enough she did and smiled at them. This place is a complete nightmare. Impossible to get a hold of anyone to book a day camp reservation. No matter what time of day you call, you will be on hold for a MINIMUM of 30 minutes, and more often longer. They force you to call to make reservations, and then don't dedicate any resources to answering the phones. Don't waste your time. Find another day care center for dogs. ALSO, because of the poor service, we now purchase ALL of our dog stuff from AMAZON or Centinela. I am a BIG fan of Petsmart. I've been going to the location in Pasadena for as long as I can remember. However, I'm not too fond of this particular location. In all fairness, I will say that they have several employees that are friendly and helpful, but more often than not I get the pleasure of being "assisted" at the cash register by a rude middle-aged female employee that is too busy looking for negative things to comment about to help make the check out process quick & issue-free. Due to the fact that my office is close to this location I often find myself stopping by during my lunch break to pick up dog food or toys (who doesn't love taking a break from a stressful day at work to shop for their furry kids?) & I am always frustrated that she is the only cash register open! On several occasions I have heard her scolding customers for not watching their (leashed) dogs closely enough while they're shopping. For a retailer that "welcomes dogs" I find it irritating. Especially when she leaves me waiting to pay for my merchandise to go chasing off after someone else! Honestly - I'd rather make the drive over to Hastings Ranch to an older store with more consistent customer service. The 2 stars are only for the friendly employees & great products. read more

We go out of town pretty often and when we can't get a doggy-sitter we bring our dogs here. We really do like the PetHotel! This is such a great concept and we know they take really good care of our dogs every time they stay here. For the most part they are very accommodating and let you bring anything and everything (within reason) to keep your pet as happy and comfortable as possible (food, toys, even bedding from home). At the end of the stay you even get a little report card to see how your doggy/kitty did while you were away! The only reason I'm giving 3 stars instead of 5 is because when two dogs come to stay from the same household they are allowed to share a room, that is unless they fall into the "bully-breed" catagory. We have two pitbulls and they are not allowed to stay in the same room. On top of that they are not allowed to attend daycare with other dogs nor are they allowed to play with each other in a private room, which is the real disappointment. You'd expect a pet store to be a little less discriminating than the typical pitbull fearing fool from the street but NOPE, its a real bummer! It bothers me that they wont even give our dogs a chance to prove themselves but it infuriates me that they wont let them play and sleep with each other. My dogs are the best of friends and they're used to being together 24/7. Our only option is to pay extra to make sure that each dog gets plenty of extra one-on-one playtime to compensate for the time they're spending alone. I pay because my dogs are worth it but I wish they weren't treated differently because of their breed read more

If I could give this place a negative review, I would. Anyone that has a pet knows how difficult it is to find a good groomers that doesn't make your pet look like a naked mole rat. We were so happy when our dogs came back from Petsmart looking the best we've ever seen. So naturally we kept going back for a few months. This one day we dropped them off at 10am and was told that they'd be done in a few hours. A few hours doesn't guarentee that a person should be sitting around waiting at home for their call. We received a call at 130pm stating that our pets were ready to pick up, but being tied up at the other side of town we couldn't get down to Petsmart until a little before 4pm with all the traffic (mind you we told them we were going to be late because of this). A few weeks later we called into Petsmart and asked to place an appt, a rude employee stated "it shows in our records that you left your pets here the entire day after grooming, uh if this happens again we will have to decline your business here" W..T...EFF? How many times have we been there and picked them up on a timely manner, and the one time we came a couple hours late we get a NOTATION on our account and a rude attitude when trying to book an appt?! Regardless of this we still went back, picked up our pets in a timely manner and shrugged this off as just a one time annoyance. Boy was I wrong, the next time we booked an appt we got another WARNING, and they were even more rude than the first employee that nagged us about this. Honestly I wanted to scream at them, but instead I'm just going to choose not to go back. So this is it, Petsmart. Goodbye to you--not because of your bad grooming capibilities or bad products--but your everlasting negligence to good customer service. Please be understanding to the customers that hopefully still want to go back there--most people have jobs, lives, and have to deal with LA traffic--so don't add on to the annoyance when they unfortunately have to be late. read more

I cake across a dogs bed great deal it was on clearance from 60 dollars to 24 dollars, the description matched the price tag, went to check out rang up as 60 dollars I told the cashier what it was priced for to honor my item because there were many more on the shelve. He apologized and said there's a fine print under that somewhere mind I am almost blind. Management needs to fix this or honor and give it to me as priced, not coming here again. read more

The day I brought in my German Shepherd puppy I was informed by the Banfield technician that 6 1/2 weeks was too young to bring in a puppy for shots and to return two weeks later. Last Wed my puppy was lethargic and refused to eat. I rushed her to Animal Pet Hospital in Pico Rivera. After endless testing it was confirmed that she had gotten sick and could have been avoided had Banfield given her her shots the day I took her. According to the Vet puppies can get their shots between 6-8 weeks. My puppy almost died because of this negligence. I will NEVER recommend Petsmart/Banfield to anyone, if anything I will encourage anyone that if you care about your pet and their well being take them elsewhere!! read more

I spend way too much money on my dog Daisy, she usually goes to the Pet hotel in Brea every day I work and we have had wonderful experiences there. After needing to find a new place to take care of her while I was home studying I went to Pasadena Doggie Camp. Multiple poor/sub par experiences at Pasadena lead me to contact the Brea Pet Hotel to discuss other alternatives in my area and information about Monrovia. I don't know about the others reviews but this morning when I dropped her off in the rain, a gentleman from grooming opened the door and greeted us saying this must be Daisy. (Being 7.15 am I was shocked to have such a polite and amazing customer experience after all I read.) We were greeted by two warm and friendly Pet Smart employees at the Hotel after the kind and friendly groomer helped point me in the right direction. At the hotel everything was practically perfect in every way! We discussed her feeding and I couldn't believe that they had done all the leg work and retrieved all my files from either Foothills Ranch or Brea. Unlike Foothills Ranch who had me fill it out again rather than call a second time to have the paper work faxed over. I know it's only 5-10 min but really there's a fax machine. Amanda was very sweet and very kind with my shy "princess" unsure of all the new day cares/camps the past few days. I was intermediately at ease leaving my dog under her and Joe's care. And heck yeah she would love an doggie ice cream treat for a little extra$ (not available at Pasadena.) When I picked up Daisy tonight everyone was beyond friendly and provided me an absolutely fantastic experience! Thank you Mya the Asst. Manager at the Monrovia Pet Hotel and made everything extra special for Daisy and me! She is awesome and Pet Smart is lucky to have her as a team leader in the Hotel! I am so excited there is now an alternative for me closer to where I live so I don't have to drive all the way to Brea on my days I don't work for Day Camp or when I go out of town and can't bring Miss Daisy I don't have to drive from Pasadena to Brea back to LAX! To discuss some of the prior poor reviews; it is clear some of the associates are likely new as it is a new store. Despite some/most possibly being in training they were still wonderful and fully competent from my perspective. Every single person I met/chatted with (mostly at the Pet Hotel but Mr. Groomer really won me over beyond anything!!!) was professional and exuded amazing customer service. To be fair Pasadena's store has good customer service, just not the day care. Thank God for Monrovia Pet Smart! Thank you to everyone (especially at the home Pet Hotel who made my week!) I took my dog to the petshotel here for the first time over a weekend. He stayed there from Friday noon to Sunday evening. Overall the transaction went smoothly and customer service was great. I called them over the weekend to ensure everything's fine, because it's his first time separating from us. The worker who answered the phone patiently respond to all our inquiries.The price is reasonable around the area. I also like the "pawgress" report they give out. Took off a star for its grooming service. We request the service on Sunday afternoon so he'll be nicely cleaned by the time we pick him up. For my dog it's $25 for bath/nail trimming/ear cleaning. Price is inexpensive, but I noticed they didn't do a good job shampooing him. There're little white particles (like dandruff) left on his body which I never seen when we go to our regular groomer's. The nails appeared not to be trimmed, although when I question the groomer, they said they did it (rolling my eyes). P.S. they should have given my dog more water! I understand they don't want the dog to pee as much when they drink lots of water, but still, do not leave the dog so thirsty such that the first thing he gets home is to rush to the TOILET for water! read more

This review is primarily about the grooming salon but I do want to mention that the hotel/doggy day camp is also quite good. I'm one of those psycho pet moms who thinks the sun rises and sets on my dogs. What I love best about this grooming salon is that they do too. I started brining my first English bulldog, Lola, here when her other groomer moved away. She immediately fell in love with the people at PetSmart grooming salon, but especially her favorite groomer Robin. It was love at first sight between the two if them. Before long everybody who worked in the salon knew Lola's name and were always happy to see her, and made a big fuss over her. It's no small wonder that she LOVED going to get groomed. Furthermore she always came out looking especially pretty and smelling sweet. The level of love and compassion from this grooming staff is outstanding. Earlier this year i lost my sweet Lola to cancer. I hadn't been in for awhile and when I brought my new rescue girl in for grooming I broke the sad news to the staff. I swear, there wasn't a dry eye in the place. Robin, her groomer, came out from behind the counter so we could hug and comfort one another. Later when I came back to pick Pearl up the entire grooming staff had chipped in and purchased a condolence card. Each and every one of them wrote a personal memory they had about Lola, or what they enjoyed most about her. Robin put the card in my hand, and told me to wait to open it until I got home. She was right, I sobbed while reading it, but the tears were also very sweet because it made me so happy to know that Lola was so universally loved. The kind of love and compassion my pets receive from this staff goes far beyond what one could ever reasonably expect from a grooming salon, yet this group of people achieve it each and every time I go in. I had a negative experience with the groomers here. My cat needed to be trimmed and she is an older rescue who doesn't get along with anyone and I specifically asked for her to come in alone to cause minimal anxiety for her. They scheduled me with another cat and dog after they guaranteed there wouldn't be anyone there. Then they proceeded to say they have to trim her nails first and they couldn't even finish that because she was so upset about the cat next to her. I will not be coming back her again after going to another groomer that had a much fairer price and actually seemed to care about my cats feelings. read more

To say that my dog "enjoys" coming here is greatly overstated (she hates being groomed, so she cowers when she comes in) but as an owner I like their treatment of pet parents here. We send our dog here for day camp and a bath because it is close to my fiance's work. It is very convenient to drop her off and pick her up to and from work. There is a Petsmart closer to our house, but we really like this one more. The reason we like this one more is that the store is nicer and the people here seem to care a bit more. when we drop our dog off here the groomer will actually come out and meet our dog and talk to us about the plan for her. This is nice for us because we get to know who is doing the grooming and it is nice for our dog because she gets to see the person before her grooming. The day care facility here is also quite nice, but that is also because this is a Pet's Hotel as well. Compared to the Pasadena facility it just feels a little nicer. My only issue is sometimes trying to coordinate a day care and bath can be a production. Usually they are very easy to work with but I have had a few hiccups now and then. 81/100 read more

We adopted our Papillon Mix at the Pasadena location so we've been going there for our obedience classes and Doggie Day Care. When our lil dog graduated from the class, we began checking him in the Monrovia day camp and noticed that the staff at this location are much more friendlier and they give a much better evaluation of our dog. We also had to check our dog in for one night in one of the Pet Hotel's suites because we are going out of town. I love that they talked about how he behaved from the time we checked him in until we picked him up. He looks like he had a wonderful experience but of course, us picking him up is a more wonderful experience for him. read more

The grooming salon does a decent job but they have a sign that offers 10% off for Military and Seniors but whenever you ask for that discount, they say it is only valid on Tuesdays...except that it doesn't say that on the sign. So we always ask for a manager who says it's on the fine print...except it's not. Then they begrudgingly give us the discount, like they are doing us a favor. WHY offer a discount you don't plan on honoring? It's so unprofessional. I've told the manager about this and nothing has changed over the last 2 years!! Time to find a new grooming place. read more

I actually liked this store but am irritated by the manager. I phoned him to make him aware that one of the homeless people who just moved their RV to their parking lot punched a hole in our company vans gas tank to steal gas (cost us $500 to fix). Police caught him but could only issue citation since due to corona virus no arrests are being made unless it's a physical altercation. The manager said they don't have any vans so he's not worried. I told him these homeless people are obviously not good people and he said he'd keep his eyes open. Guess he prefers to defend these criminals then the customers and neighbors. My dog got sick in this hotel with vomiting and nausea. They brought her to the doctor but didn't know exactly what has happened to her. Per doctor, she must have been given lots of treats. But when we picked up my dog, she has terrible.. she had running nose and she has phlegm in her throat and was skinny. She was starving when she came home and finished two bowls. The dog usually finishes 1 bowl and she's done. I'm not too sure if they took good care of my dog I'm there. My dog stayed there for a full 3 weeks. No wonder why this one has low reviews. Two stars for refilling her same food when it ran out and bringing my dog to the doctor when she felt sick. And also sending photos with to make my dog looked cute but I really don't know ... if my dog looked cute but sick. But never again will I put my dog in the hands of these people again. read more

This is regarding their grooming salon which is the absolute worst! I took my puppy in for a simple nail-clipping - even phoning in and getting the green light before driving there - and the lazy workers in the (nearly empty) salon did everything they could to not have to work any more on a Sunday afternoon. They tried every excuse in the book, which I refuted successfully until the grooming salon manager appeared and with limited knowledge ran through a new string of excuses. No one in the salon even tried to help me with something as simple as a puppy nail-clipping. No excuse for such poor customer service. It's hard to continue patronizing a store that treats its regular customers so poorly - and I guess now I know why their grooming salon was nearly empty. So the manager of this grooming salon and her employees can be thanked by the Chewy.com folks because not only will I not be seeking grooming services from PetSmart from now on but I also won't be shopping there for my pet's food, toys, snacks, shampoos, brushes, etc. Is it possible to rate something lower than one star here?
