I have been a customer for my home heating oil since 2014 when we purchased our home. Recently Petro's rates are more than double those of other local oil companies. I've spoken with customer service twice regarding this issue and neither time has anything been able to be done- nor were any suggestions made other than canceling and having to pay a $399.00 contract cancellation fee! I just got a bill for $757.68 for 214.7 gallons of oil at my ceiling rate of $3.529. This ceiling plan is supposed to offer oil at the lowest market rate but PETRO'S market rate. Not the actual market rate. The average rate for 3 other local companies is $2.69. Beware before you deal with this company and NEVER AGREE TO A CONTRACT with them. read more

Dishonest try to rob me buy selling me an entire AC unit that was fixed by one 25$ part. I do not recommend them! All I needed was Freon and one part! They would not refund me money that they said was bc they sent a technician to do an estimate! Update** Afterwards They called me back and tried to convince me that my system was old and needed to be replaced and when I told them I was happy with it They told me that I should replace it anyway it felt like I was being threatened when they told me that my AC unit will be outlawed in 2020! I had my heating unit serviced summer 2020. Never having had a problem prior to service by Petro, they have had to come out 4 separate times to fix issues since. Once after coming home from work and having my house filled with smoke. This past Saturday, my heat stopped working. I was told by the technician they could t help until Monday morning. This morning I called Petro at 10 am and 12 pm- I never received a call back. A technician finally showed up at 3:30 and told me they still didn't have the part and couldn't help. I have had no heat with a young child in the house for 3 days. With no call back or plan to address this from management. Horrendous customer service. I do NOT recommend. read more

I called Petro back in August regarding the extremely high end of contract bill and told them I was going to terminate my contract. The representative urged me to reconsider and said that they would have someone from their Retention team give me a call. The next day I spoke with a Rep from the retention team who convinced me to stay and enter another contract for $262 per month. It's mid December and not one bill has been for the agreed upon monthly rate inspite of the fact that I paid them the $900+ to settle my last contract. I called them several times regarding my bill in Sept, Oct,, Nov and now December. Each Rep stated "Didn't you cancel your contract?" I stated no and if I did, why are you guys delivering oil and billing me accordingly? After no less than 5 calls and numerous representatives, I spoke with Mike (Supervisor) on 12/7/22 who informed me I was still being charged a termination fee for a contract that was NEVER terminated. He took off the final $228 I shouldn't have been charged. Also prior to 12/7/22 I spoke with another Rep on 11/27 who told me they never received my check for $262. I informed her that, that check was mailed on 11/7/22 and since it is now almost the end of November I will do a stop payment and resubmit payment once I receive a paper bill. To say the least 2 days later, 11/30/22 they received the stopped check, attempted to cash it and charged me $20 return check fee! This company is very expensive to do business with. I'm almost always charged the ceiling price. I stayed with them for the maintenance contract but I had a maintenance issue that the contract should have covered but they didn't want to cover it. By the time they agreed to cover the part, I had already had it fixed by another plumbing company. Now i'm having a problem with them supplying my oil. I'm on fumes and they refuse to deliver my oil until the delivery truck is in my area. I ended up buying 10 gallons of kerosene today to hold me over. I will not renew my contract with this company. I called the company twice, the person said he would speak with the delivery manager to push up my delivery, he never called back. Instead I got a e-mail saying they'll deliver by the end of the week. I would not recommend this company to anyone. I average $7,000 a year with this company to heat my home. I'm positive the competitor will appreciate my business. read more

Absolutely the worst propane delivery experience. It took 5 days and an untold amount of stress to obtain delivery to an almost empty tank of propane heating fuel. With a .2 of a mile long driveway, the tank should have been filled prior to the most recent snow storms. Instead the tank was left nearly empty and I was then, after the snows came, told that a delivery couldn't be made unless the driveway was salted and sanded. I and my plow contractor and his assistant sanded and salted the entire driveway for a second time (the first being done when the snow stopped). I then called to advise Petro that the driveway was ready but that snow was predicted later in the day. Petro waited until after it snowed to tell me They couldn't deliver because there was snow on the driveway. Once again I paid to have the drive plowed and sanded. Petro then sent a tech who was able to drive up to the tank. The following day I called and was told that not only was the driveway not sanded and salted but that the tech couldn't get in. Both were lies. I was finally told that a delivery would be scheduled for the following day. I am 74 with a heart condition but I purchased 300 pounds of salt and made sure I salted and sanded every conceivable bit of ice/snow on or near the driveway. The delivery was finally made after 5 days of stress and aggrivation. During my calls I was hung up on twice. A Customer Service supervisor called and, after hearing my story, offered to compensate me by crediting my account for $30. After the delivery was made another Customer Service Rep. called and offered me $20 INSTEAD of the $30. For a company Their size they should be ashamed of themselves. I have been a long time customer (and still am) of Burke in Westchester. I shudder to think of how their service will decline being a part of Petro. 3/1/21 Update: I was contacted today by the Genera Manager of Petro. We discussed my recent difficulties in obtaining the propane for my heater. Had he just apologized for the whole incident I probably would have left my rating at 1 star. But instead he came up with a solution to prevent future problems. He added my name to a list of "snow stops". These are customers who have challenging driveways. Petro insures that these customers have sufficent fuel before the snows come. This is exactly what would have prevented this whole incident. Thank you Rob. She was professional, responsive and made every effort to save me money on new propane service and a new line install. She also went above and beyond to coordinate the install for me on a tight schedule. The technicians, Nick and Kyle, were outstanding as well...they explained all of the work to be performed, patiently answered my questions, and performed the work on-time and on-budget as promised. Petro Home Services is the most uncaring company I've ever dealt with. Not only unorganized but feel they can deliver to you less than a month apart consistently, this is NOT the deal when signing up. To top it off they sent a repair person out that was CANCELED and have admitted so then tried to charge us $175 for it as my child let him him not knowing. What a joke! This service guy as all of their guys is UNION so he wanted $509.00 for a fix (one part needed). We had this fixed for $232.73 with tax! Their prices are outrages. Called to cancel them completely now their trying to make me pay $200 from the promotional deal of first oil fill, hey okay no problem but also $399.00 additional to not have their service any longer when they defaulted on their own deal repeatedly! Free $$ for them! The worst of worst they know my spouse is terminal Yes they know what's happening in this family. In fact we applied for HEAP to get help and they sent the check back to HEAP and closed our account without discussion!! Last we heard from them is Rita the sales person who sold you this will call you back to discuss "bc my manager can't decide", that was Jan. 8th. No one ever called. I was astounded that they could even be worse, but they were. An extremely nasty lady closed my account despite the fact that I always paid on time. They said there was a balance due, I was put of the country and assured them that I would take care of it upon my return. The vultures kept calling while I was in Europe, even than I very politely asked them to wait until I get back. They even called me on Sunday! So, the moment I got back, I called and, believe it or not, there was a pleasant lady there who said I can pay in 2 installments. They kept sending me incorrect statements and, worst of all, my credit score dropped 10 points. Of course they say it's not because of them, but it has never happened before. They would not credit me for the service contract and all I can day is talk to your neighbors before you choose a fuel company. I cannot believe how I was treated for simply being honest. So I gave petro home services a second chance. I signed a contract for my boiler service and oil delivery, so after several attempts to get them to service my boiler and appointment with a several hour window, they would call and cancel or call and tell me that they had to puch my window a few hours long I canceled my contract. On Saturday 12/19/2020 they showed up for a oil delivery and I told them I'm no longer doing business with petro. The driver said ok and said that he would notify them to update there system. Now today 12/21/2020 I come home and I see that they came out again and top my tanks off. WHY . So I called them, after being on hold the first time for 17 minutes then getting the phone hung up on me , I called again and waited 11 minutes more. They tell me I'm sorry and they can't help me that some one from poughkeepsie office needs to call me . REALLY. This is the worst customer service I've ever saw. On top of it all getting charged. 65c more a gal. Then every on else. Let's see now how long will it take to correct this problem. read more

I agree with Kerry R's opinion of the staff at Petro. The people there are great. But it's got very greedy, or perhaps very inefficient, management in my opinion. Here's some data ... In April of 2015 I paid $3.549 per gal for heating oil. According to www.nyserda.ny.gov the average home heating oil price in Dutchess County on Apr 13, 2015 was 298.7 cents per gal and on Apr 27 it was 299.4 cents per gal. So what I was charged was 18.5% higher than the (higher) Apr 27th average price for Dutchess County. I have no experience with other heating oil dealers in Dutchess County. I suspect that Petro is better than most. But I doubt that it is 18.5 percent better. read more

Jodi went above and beyond the call of duty to help us research a tank removal performed by Ryan Oil which was bought out by Petro years ago. We needed documentation to sell our property and Jodi reached out to former subcontractors who poured through old paper files to find what we needed. Just got a propane delivery, and they jumped the price by $1.75/gallon ($3.99 to $5.74) Claim that propane has been fluctuating. After I talked to them, they now say I was moved into a new tier pricing level since I didn't use enough propane last year. They had given me a discounted tier price to get my Oil Business. Checked with other distributers, and they are significantly lower than what I'm paying now, without the Tier penalty for conserving fuel. The delivery people are great, but not sure what happened in the sales office. read more

Have been using them for several years, since moving to Hyde Park. Oil price was always much higher than other companies. They said if I had a contract with them for delivery, it would be much cheaper. Locked into a contract with them and was paying well over $1 more per gallon than any other company. Consistently checked NYS and Hudson Valley region prices on delivery dates and could never get a clear answer as to why my per gallon price was so high. Asked what the contract criteria was specifically, as all was done on a recorded phone call. Asked for copy of contract specifics in writing and kept getting passed on to someone else. Never got a copy. Cancelled my contract and got almost daily calls looking for payment on my last delivery, although it had not been 30 days since delivery. This company is shady and I do not recommend them for anything. They are horrific and during tough financial times, they will bleed you dry. The only remaining comment which I did say is that if you do charge a premium price over the lower tier oil companies, be up front with the consumer. After being with Love Effron for over 20 years, they switched to Petro Oil. I have a service contract which I pay over $500 a year for. I had a problem with the motor on my boiler. It was replaced no problem and then 3 weeks later it is not working. Petro came to my house Wednesday before Thanksgiving and informed us that the motor is defective and needs to be replaced but because the next day was Thanksgiving i would have to wait. OK we did. Call them first thing Friday morning and they said they will get back to me. Received a call back informing me that the part had to be ordered and the earliest it would be was Tuesday (almost a week later). I explained to them that we are freezing in the house and have children here. This will be the last year I have a contract with them. Love Effron they are not! Do not recommend using this company at all. Hands are freezing as I write this review. read more

I am updating my review and adding some stars. After reviewing my recorded phone calls from over 6 months back Petro concluded that I was right, and did tell them to not deliver any more oil until I told them to. They have decided to not charge me for the last delivery, which would have cost me about $260. It took them awhile, and I had at least 5 calls from their various customer service people, but it got rectified. I think their heart is in the right place, but they still have a bit of a confusing computer system to deal with. It shouldn't be this hard to tell a company to deliver only when ordered to. I live in a rental unit and told Petro that I don't intend to live there too long, and that the landlady will not be reimbursing me for any oil left in the tank. I called Petro several times within the first 6 months and informed them that I did not want automatic delivery. First time I called they told me they couldn't do that and that I was under contract for a year and had to have oil shoved down my throat whether I wanted it or not. I complained and was eventually told on another phone call that they would hold delivery and wait for me to call them whenever I needed more oil. Well, that turned out to be BS as they continued to show up whenever I wasn't home and kept filling up the tank. If you ever want to know what a goose feels like that has a feeding tube jammed down its throat so it has to keep drinking cream so the pate they make out of them is extra rich, just sign up with Petro. They'll shove an oil tube up or down any orifice so they can keep charging you more and more money for oil you don't want or need. They will say this is for your benefit so that you don't run out of oil... ha! The last delivery they made was only two weeks ago at the end of June! Who the hell needs oil to get through the Summer?! I am done dealing with these shysters. They either are incompetent and don't have a simple customer database where a message stating "Do Not Deliver Until Called by Customer." can be stored. Or they just don't care and prioritize maximizing profits. Either way I am done with them. Use them at your peril. read more

They offer a great deal to get you to signup. When the tech shows up he tells you that they need to do thousands of dollars worth the work before they fill your tank and get to enjoy the great deal. If possible, I would give Petro ZERO stars. In my opinion, Petro is one of the worst oil service companies in the business. Stay away from contracting Petro for your oil delivery service. My family contracted Petro to deliver home heating oil. At first, they seemed to be professional. However, there was an event whereas Petro came to fill the tank with home heating oil and was informed the tank was full. Their driver inspected the gauge, took note that the tank was full and left. Three days later Petro sent another truck and overfilled the tank which caused an oil spill. They dug up the dirt to remove the oil from the property but they never returned to fix the damage they caused. Petro billed us for the entire cost of the oil delivery and insisted that if we do not sign a general release waiver we must pay for everything including the oil spill. Since we do not believe that it is in our family's best interest to sign a waiver absolving them of their responsibility, they have added fees and interest to the outstanding bill. We are being billed for the cost of the oil in the yard and Petro has never even returned to replace the dirt and grass they removed to clean up the spill they caused. They have since sent paperwork that if we do not pay they will send the bill to collection and their attorney. Their tactics may ultimately ruin your credit rating. Wow, all we did was contract them to deliver home heating oil. This is not the way to do business. I would not recommend using Petro to anyone. Stay away. read more

I join the other reviewer who wishes we could give Zero stars because that would be more appropriate here. We opened a service/oil delivery contract with Petro upon closing on our home because the previous owners had been long-time customers of Petro. My husband was against it from the start. I attempted to schedule a routine service of our furnace as it had been done at our property for more than 25 years only to be told the only service appointments available were months away (as in 2019) that there were earlier appointments available which suited our schedule but not to us because we were new customers. This did not make sense to me at all. What was the purpose of us signing the service contract in the first place? Well, of course, I asked to cancel the contract. Then we started getting calls wanting to "make everything right." Oh and yes they believe they can charge $399 to cancel the contract. No customer wants to complain in order to get quality service in the first instance. We used another oil company at our previous home without a contract and they proved to be very reliable and always came out IMMEDIATELY when called. I won't even go into the fact that a Petro technician told us that a "sweaty" pipe in our basement was from high humidity levels but it was actually a faulty valve. I also want to add weight to the review from the person who said Petro overfilled their tank and caused an oil spill on their property. We received similar voicemails from Petro wanting to fill our tank at the end of Spring when we were not using oil. I called Petro immediately demanding that they not come out because our tank had already been topped off for the Season which I was grateful for after reading that horrific account. If you're looking for reliable and honest heating oil service, this is not the company for you. If you want to have your back rubbed and be apologized to over and over again, then go ahead and sign a contract with Petro. read more

Petro Home Services has a 24/7 line that is not responsive. During the coldest weekend of decades here in Connecticut, I was placed three times on hold for more than 50 minutes without being able to reach a service representative. My house ran out of oil 4 days before the scheduled refill, and I wanted to move forward the date. It is a shame that the company publishes 24/7 service if no one ever answers the phone. Also, I wrote four different forms with my request and phone number in their Contact Us page, and the outcome was the same: no actual response to my dire circumstances and only four email receipts. The only reason Petro is receiving 2 stars instead of 1 is that when you have a service contract with them, they'll come out right away to fix any problems. Having said that, about three years ago I bought and had them install a new boiler and water heater (top of the line..$8500.00). The salesman told me that the oil-fired water heater would be so much cheaper than the electric. When I had an electric water heater, yes the electric bill was a little higher, but i could turn off the boiler from mid-March to Nobember and spend nothing on oil. Now I'm get twice as many deliveries as I used to, am paying 2x as much for oil and the boiler runs almost all the time using far more oil and heating the house all through the summer. My second complaint...their service contract goes up $100 or more each year and in renewing my last oil contract with them, as I was hanging up, they said "thank you" for renewing with us for 2 years and hung up before I could even say "NO" and they renewed the service contract w/o my aporoval! Now I have to wait until the 16 months is up and after that I never want to have anything to do with Petro again! read more

Cost of oil is significantly higher than other companies. Service contract comes with yearly tune up which is not provided due to issues with staff availability for service and the only way they will provide this service which is paid for in your contract you must stay on auto delivery. Again although as a customer you have already paid for this service. The second year we wished to cancel and while speaking to representative we were lead to believe we could actually sign up for a rate lock and auto delivery without a service plan. WE WERE billed for service plan but chose to continue despite. The end of this year we were told if we signed up for another service plan they would service the boiler and provide another service this year (again this comes with the service plan) They automatically renewed our plan WITHOUT our permission despite calling prior to end of contract and requesting cancellation. When we contacted the representative stated the would credit the service agreement and send final amt due for oil. Of course we received a bill with final amt due for the final delivery and an additional 408.55 for a service agreement with a note on the top of the invoice stating delivery and service has been canceled. I dealt with G and S Fuel Services for several years. Ever since they consolidated with Petro, for the past few months, my billing has been incredibly screwed up and the "service plan" is now $435! Next year I am definitely looking for a new, local company--might go back to Bottini again. They lost a couple of checks that I sent thru my bank's billing service. I called to let them know that I was putting a stop payment on the checks and would be issuing them a new check. I was assured that if the checks showed up they would not be deposited. Well, guess what. They deposited them and then I got an insufficient funds charge on the two checks! After much aggravation, they credited back the insufficient funds charge. Bully for them. 2018-19 is last year I will be dealing with them. Their call center tonight was in Rhode Island!!!! not even close to being local. I'm tired of getting emails one saying I have a balance and the next one saying I had a zero balance then getting a long explanation about how the service plan was being billed out today.
