I was at the lake fishing yesterday when my buddy told me about Hruskas. He made it sound like a must-stop, so we stopped there after fishing.As in the other Peters reviews here, I too was totally disappointed in what I saw at Hruskas. It's nothing more than a gas station with a bakery. I decided to go over to Peters for a real sit-down meal and am VERY GLAD I did!!! The meat was so tender,the sausage was very good, and the sides bar was great!! The sauce is a little ketchupy but ok... But save room....the desserts are even better!!! The banana cream pudding is very good,the peach cobbler is the very best, and the ice cream machine is not to be missed!!! It's a machine,but the ice cream tastes like it's from a home-made hand-cranked machine...INCREDIBLE!!! Stopped here on our way back to Houston. Place was packed at 11:30am on a Sunday! Got 2 chopped beef sandwiches based on the reviews. Very good sandwich! A little fatty for my taste. My Bf LOVED his. For $2, you can't beat it! He also got 1/2 pound of sausage link. Said that was outstanding too. Only reason I subtracted a star, was I was charged $13/# for the sausage and not the $9/# listed on the board. But, like I said, the place was packed, so I didn't want to hold up the line. I take exception to the review saying real Texans wouldn't like this place. I was born and raised and still live in Texas and really like the BBQ here. As a matter of fact, I have detoured driving from Dallas to home to Houston over to 71 just to bring home some brisket from Peter's. Maybe cause I'm also a "Polish descended" Texan (no jokes please- hahaha) is why I like the BBQ here. And what the heck are these people worrying about the vegetables anyway? It's a BBQ joint! This is good stopping place for BBQ. I mix the lean and moist brisket for a great balance. BBQ sauce is a bit weak but good. The potatoes cooked in butter and other goodness is an excellent choice off the side bar. read more

Ok I have seen the reviews for this place and had to try it...so popped in and the array of signs with items on them is...well confusing to say the least...so I opted to just tell the girl behind the counter that I wanted a chopped sandwich and fries....she replied..you want the plate or just the sandwich....which I replied I'll take the plate (*****MYASS Umption-plate=basket=me getting some freakin fries)....so I get a plain bun out the package with a spoon of sauce and a spoon of meat (didn't cover the bun) and she hands that to me I turn to the owner at the register and tell him I wanted a drink...12 bucks...ok I assume the fries are on the way--- I come back and ask- he tells me that all the sides are on the buffet eat all you want. Ok, I assume that fries are not on the menu today so I try the mashed potatoes....anyone can boil and mash a potato.......................any one. So I mention to the owner - hey man really just wanted fries not that whole buffet sides thing- he then gives me the quick lecture on the difference between the plate and ordering "the special" that has fries....I take that and I said I was sorry and really just wanted fries. He then tells me he will get me fries.....35 minutes LATER....everyone in the entire restaurant has gotten order after order of fries as the lady just wonders out of the kitchen sayin "who ordered fries" as I raise my hand and speak up she gives me the "yours is coming out" and yet it NEVER DOES!!!!!! Finally I am freaking done...because honestly the best thing there was the tea (it was actually really good) but the service, food and owner all are UGH. I had to walk out because i was angry because he tells me - yeah we need to get some sort of number system for the orders or something....Not hey I am really sorry we screwed you over with the fry thing- or hey let me throw a coupon or something your way for burning now 45 minutes and getting NOTHING. He didn't even offer to refund my money...I had to TELL him to return my money....Oh and he told me to try everything on the buffet for the sides...NOTHING and I say NOTHING was even decent....over cooked smoothed steak, bland mashed tatters, cole slaw seemed stale, cucumber salad...was literally sliced cucumbers in watered down vinegar. Okay, upon arrival it had all the characteristics of a delicious hole in wall barbecue joint. However, i should have been wary when the woman serving could not make any recommendations on what was good. My husband got the two meat plate and he was surprised when he was given four small slices of brisket and one rib. Yeah, one rib. I chose the two meat plate and was given a small sausage link and the same amount of brisket. We told the sloth-man as previously mentioned in another review, that we would like two drinks. The grand total $26. So, yeah, I thought a little pricey, but was told by sloth -man that we could get all the veggies we wanted. The veggies appeared to be the same veggies served everyday and possibly reheated under hot lights. Crispy, hard Mac and cheese and tasteless canned green beans. The sweet tea tasted like the water came straight out of the Colorado river. The cole slaw was okay. The sausage and rib was edible but nothing to write home about. The brisket was fatty. The vinegar based barbecue sauce was horrible, tasteless, and had mysterious chunks in it. Peters Bbq should feel ashamed, particularly since it is on a touristy highway and will be a representation of Texas barbecue, which it is not!!! read more

We stumbled across this place yesterday on our way from Galveston to Austin. GPSS (GOOD PLANNING SOMETIMES SUCKS) led us there. I loved it before I even took a bite of their delicious food. We kept trying different sides, as well as the brisket and chicken, in a devoted effort to try to find something we didn't like. It never happened, so we were forced to leave there with very full stomachs and a to go box. We honestly felt like we were eating at a good friend's home. Maybe I should have offered to help with the cooking ... Just because that is what you do at a good friend's house. I know the difference between a five star restaurant and a BBQ place. I gave this place 5 stars, not because it is a five star restaurant, but because it is a five star BBQ place. We used Peter's B-B-Q Catering Service for our annual noon "Aquinas Fest" church picnic meal at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in College Station, Texas on Sunday, 9-25-16. We ordered 600 B-B-Q plates that were served from 11:00am-2:00pm. They arrived on schedule, served us an outstanding meal, and they knew what they were doing. I stopped here for lunch today after a long motorcycle ride in the LaGrange area. I ordered the buffet and an iced tea, which came to $12, including tax. I had my choice of the following from the meat counter; pork spare ribs, sausage, brisket, or chopped beef - sliced to order - in any amount that my little heart desired. Then, there was the buffet (side order) table, which included baked chicken, ham, and a varied selection of vegetables, salads, etc. Let me just say that the BBQ was truly excellent. The ribs were perfectly smoked and tender, and the brisket was flavorful and moist. All of the food was freshly prepared and served hot. I haven't been a very frequent seeker of bbq places in Houston; I don't like real "hot" bbq sauce. I LOVE the chopped beef sandwiches here.....the sauce is kind of sweet and mild, and the price cannot be beat. When I've been away from this place for too long, I've gone to a substitute Houston bbq place, and the chopped beef sandwiches there are three times the price, dry, and just not nearly as good . We have been getting B-B-Q from here for 8 years. We have never had anything bad. All the meat and sides have been wonderful. Now, you cannot judge a book by its cover. It is not a fancy place and almost all B-B-Q places are not but it is what you are eating inside that counts.My husband and son really love the ribs but you have to get there early or they will be sold out We live about 30 miles away and almost all the time we are picking up B-B-Q to take home so we will have some for 2 different meals. My adult son really loves the food too. Between there and Austin you cannot get any better B-B-Q. There are 2 places in our small town but we never eat B-B-Q local. We always drive the 30 miles to get wonderful food. You will not be disappointed. The owners and workers are very nice also I might add. read more

Live in Austin but was coming thru LA grange from Houston. First let me start with the service. The cashier and the guy preparing the food were stellar!!! He was patient and the pretty lady behind the cash drawer was such a sweet heart. The portions was huge and the food was amazing! The prices were light on the pocket book too. Since south side market has fallen off over the last few years there is no good BBQ in the Austin area. Although a nice Lil drive. I think I've found me new fav spot. Yummy!! read more
